For those of you who bought art painted by Blu Lu. This is what your money supported. Parrot conservation in the wild! This was a banner year. Nine Blue-throated Macaw chicks fledged out of five nest boxes — which is the greatest number of artificial nests ever used by Blue-throated Macaws in a single breeding season. The most important event of this year is the first confirmed record of a second generation of Blue-throated Macaws raising their offspring in one of our nest boxes. Both parents have leg bands indicating that they were raised in our nest boxes seven years ago. Therefore, we can confidently state that young Blue-throated Macaws are learning that artificial nests we placed in the area are secure sites to produce their own offspring.This brings the grand total to 71 Blue-throated Macaw chicks raised by wild pairs in our Nido Adoptivo™ nest boxes over the past ten breeding seasons.
