Experimenting with blocks. The White House block by Nancy Cabot from 1937 according to Barbara Brackmans's Civil War Sampler. Cut it with the @accuquilt system, which was lovely. Fabric choices @michaelmillerfabrics for the pink, @pbsfabrics for black and white and black from @joann_stores. Copyright thoughts. When does my block gain meaningful copyright protection? When does a block that is in the public domain transform into something copyrightable? Taking the snapshot from Brackman's book is fair use b/c I took only the amount I needed to comment. I did not create a market replacement. And the block itself is not protected. So it was her expression of the block and that in this case has thin protection. Using a quote from the book also fair use.
