Liphlich - Club Fleuret (11.10.2017) [★★★★★]

The scariest month of the year featured a well themed release by a really freaking visual band. After having released two great albums in the previous year, Liphlich becomes even more elegant for the sixth album, dark and enigmatic in its melodies and piercing in his vocal performances, alternating soft and strong in a perfect balance, with a touch of unpredictability and another confirmation of this band’s great talent.

D - Orokashii ryuu no yume [Stupid dragon’s dream] (27.10.2017) [★★★★★]

We can say finally that D has come back to their glorious days, bringing also some unexpected change along the road. Following up a quite decent phase, composed by two nice singles and a decent album, the band goes in with a limited mini-album, which reshapes their music starting from their best themes; the melodies are energetic and compelling, with a bit of virtuous instrumental work and vocals which show a meaningful linguistic mastery (apart from Japanese, in the lead-track Asagi sings in Bulgarian), confirming that they are ready to engage their audience at the best.

Coldrain - Fateless (11.10.2017) [★★★★★]

Coldrain has always been a really powerful metalcore band in Japan and even oversea, greatly helped by the mixed line-up, a bit Japanese and a bit American. In this year they released their fifth album, confirming and elevating more their musical style, apparently closer to a typical hardcore band. Actually they have more depth and power than other bands of the genre and this release helps a lot in discovering it, with various and compelling metal themes gathered together.

A veteran band of the Japanese power metal scene continues to confirm as a true leader of the genre, going through a more artistic work, intertwined inside their energetic and virtuous sound. Their fourteenth album is a conceptual work, made by strong religious references and well managed thanks to a great sound and suggestive vocals, for a great metal release, strong and engaging as few.

Reol - Endless EP (11.10.2017) [★★★★]

The electro-pop trio Reol has exploded in their sudden and engaging success with their first full album, come out last year. But unfortunately the trio will disband, but not without greeting their audience. The first and last EP is made by four energetic and funny pop themes, driven by exquisite beats and nice vocals, clear and flowing. We will surely miss them, as they were quite different from the majority of Japanese pop acts.

Lovebites - Awakening From Abyss (25.10.2017)

The first mention is for a rising star of the Japanese metal scene, the all-female band Lovebites. Debuting this May with their first EP, they maintained the features seen there in their first full work, or better they improved them. The sound is powerful and blazing, with piercing riffs, pounding rhythms and charismatic vocals, bringing this band to the level of other great names such as Aldious and Area 51, hoping that they will stand and become more powerful.

Bellfast - Triquedraco (11.10.2017)

The final mention is for a really unique and peculiar band in the scene. Bellfast is active since 1993, but they didn’t release really much so far, apart from some demo and an album come out seven years ago. So they made their official debut, if we can say like that, with this second album, made of warm and engaging melodies, mixing Celtic music and powerful metal melodies, featuring even a collaboration with the emerging singer Isomer (included in a special disc released with the album itself). So we can say that Bellfast is finally starting to gain some popularity and I am so glad to have discovered them.
