FISHING ON STAND UP PADDLE BOARD | INFLATABLE PADDLE BOARD
Riding the Wave: The Rise of SUP Fishing
Stand Up Paddleboards (SUPs) have emerged as the go-to fishing vessel for shallow water enthusiasts worldwide. Thanks to the surge in inflatable paddleboards, anglers now have an incredibly convenient way to store and transport their fishing gear. Even compared to more modest watercraft like kayaks and canoes, SUPs offer unparalleled benefits, including a shallow draft and ease of use. In this article, we'll explore the reasons to consider a paddleboard for fishing, key factors when choosing one, and the essential equipment you'll need. We'll also share valuable tips and tricks to enhance your paddleboard fishing experience.
Why Choose a Paddleboard for Fishing
Stand Up Paddleboards offer numerous advantages that make them an excellent choice for anglers. First and foremost, they are lightweight and highly portable, a crucial factor for those without dedicated storage space or easy access to the water. Inflatable SUPs, such as those from iROCKER, BOTE, or GILI, take this convenience a step further, requiring even less storage space. While inflatable kayaks are a worthy competitor, paddleboards often outshine them in terms of setup speed.
Another standout feature of paddleboards is their vantage point. Paddleboards are designed to provide stability, allowing you to stand on them comfortably. While some may use them for yoga, anglers can appreciate the advantage of standing to spot schooling fish on the flats, a perspective that trumps sitting low to the water in a kayak.
Moreover, SUPs draw very little water, enabling you to glide over sandbars and grass beds without worrying about running aground. This freedom to navigate shallow waters allows anglers to explore secluded fishing spots that larger boats and even wading anglers cannot reach.
What to Look for in a Fishing Paddleboard
Having decided on a paddleboard for fishing, it's essential to consider the specific features your fishing paddleboard should possess. Regardless of whether you choose a solid or inflatable board, ensure it can accommodate a seat. Seats offer comfort and the advantage of faster propulsion, which can be crucial when chasing fast-moving schools of fish.
Rod holders are another essential feature to make your fishing experience more manageable. Brands like BOTE offer rod holders that fit seamlessly into integrated attachment points, saving you the trouble of figuring out how to attach aftermarket rod holders.
Pay attention to the weight limits of your paddleboard, especially if you plan to carry gear, additional attachments, and a loaded cooler. Your board should comfortably handle the combined weight.
Must-Have Equipment for SUP Fishing
Enhancing your fishing vessel with the right gear can elevate your experience:
Seat: A seat allows you to sit, reducing fatigue and enabling faster paddling.
KAYAK SEAT FROM iROCKER: Designed to attach to your iROCKER board, this lightweight kayak seat offers lumbar support and comfort.
KULA BUCKET COOLER FROM BOTE: This versatile cooler doubles as a drink dispenser, watertight storage, and a seat when paired with BOTE's accessory racks.
Rod Holder: Essential for keeping your rods accessible for various fishing techniques.
FISHING ROD HOLDER BY iROCKER: Adjustable rod holders that attach to action point mounts on your board, suitable for trolling.
TRIPLE ROD HOLDER BY SCOTTY: Efficiently mounts on hard paddleboards, providing three independent rod holders for trolling.
TACKLE RAC BY BOTE: This rack not only holds rods but also acts as a backrest for your seat, enhancing your fishing experience.
Anchor: Keep your SUP anchored in place for fishing convenience.
SUP ANCHOR BY iROCKER: A collapsible anchor with arms that securely dig into the sand or hard bottom, ensuring you stay in place.
SAND SPIKE: Ideal for shallow water anchoring, this fiberglass pole is easy to set and disengage.
YAKSTICK FLOATING STAKE-OUT STICK BY YAKGEAR: A six-foot pole that doubles as a push pole for shallow water maneuvering, weighing under two pounds.
SAND SPEAR BY iROCKER: This combo includes an anchor point to keep your SUP steady and attaches to your paddle for convenient storage.
Reeling It In: Practice Before the Season
If possible, practice using your SUP all year round to get comfortable with it. Balance and maneuverability are essential skills. It's advisable to get accustomed to your board without all your fishing gear, so you're prepared for any challenges, including the occasional spill.
BUY GEAR HOLDERS: Invest in vertical rod holders to keep your gear secure and prevent it from rolling into the water.
WEAR A PFD: Always wear a life vest for safety, even though your board floats. Ensure it fits well and is in good condition.
KEEP IT SIMPLE: Avoid overloading your board with excessive gear, as it can slow you down and diminish your overall experience. Paddleboard fishing is about simplicity and enjoying the journey.
CHECK THE WEATHER: Keep a close eye on weather conditions for safety and plan your fishing spots accordingly to leverage wind and tide to your advantage.
Stand Up Paddleboards offer a remarkable way to elevate your fishing experience. With their stealth, ease of use, and storage advantages, it's no wonder they've become a popular choice for anglers exploring shallow waters. Armed with our tips and gear recommendations, you'll be well on your way to creating the perfect fishing platform on your paddleboard.

As Natasha went to fill out the board to map out today's joint lesson with none other than Professor Maximoff—her wife, and close colleague she froze in place at the sound of laughter. Normally the affairs of her students before class began didn't bother her, but since it'd been a week since you last chose to attend she was intrigued, but more so she was furious.
Turning around only made her ten times as such, the sight of you with your hand on the bicep of Darcy Lewis—the campus 'fuckboy,' with your head thrown back as you forced out a laugh at one of her lame jokes was a sight meant to be nonexistent. Not only was she mad that you even dared taunt them with another, but you were also breaking one of their core rules by showing up in such a reserved outfit. They didn't make you go out shopping for all of those low cut crop tops, and mini skirts for you to wear a turtle neck and slacks to their class.
———
Natasha and Wanda were strategic when selecting you to be their precious girl all those years ago when you decidedly chose Russian to meet your university language requirement. It'd been a decision based on a whim, your friend who was a second year advised you to do it because the professor was hot, and the other languages offered were "boring," and "basic." You were sold the moment she said hot, and accompanied her words with the evidence.
As that first semester drew closer to the end you found your school girl fantasy of sleeping with your professor was far more based in reality when she bent you over her desk during your 'mandatory' meeting about your future in her department. With your mind in a haze, she'd actually managed to convince you—an Economics major, to minor in Russian studies.
Which is how you found yourself stuck in this dreadful hybrid class with the women. Wanda taught Russian Literature, while Natasha taught every language course offered, and the university allowed them to combine courses. Every Monday you would go to Russian 4, where Natasha taught that weeks vocabulary. On Wednesday's you'd review the literature that corresponded well with Natasha's lessons piece by piece with Wanda. Then come Friday you'd spend three hours being taunted by the both of them as they connected their lessons, then gave a corresponding quiz or assignment.
These beautiful women who managed to rock your world on a regular basis, while also being absolute nightmares to deal with have trapped you in their intricate web of thought out lies. For two years now they'd promised to take you on a proper date, to show you their whispered words during sex were true, but they always found a way to evade your requests, and it usually ended with them fucking you senseless enough to momentarily forget your woes.
They had every intention to take you out, but then they received an anonymous photo of the three of you leaving class together. Innocent in nature, but the sender clearly had an eye for subtext because the "😉" attached wasn't an accident. If they were to take you out now they run the risk of losing their jobs, which to them wasn't even the main concern; if you were to all be outed you'd be bumped from the university.
Funny enough, your relationship isn't even a forbidden one, it's highly frowned upon sure, but with the proper paperwork submitted, and the lack of campus based fraternization—like taking a class, it can be done without penalty. However, the women never wanted to tell their employer—the university, of their private business, and now it's too late to try. Leaving them in a position where they have to keep you in the shadows of their life instead of showing you off to the world like they truly wanted to.
Because, if they could do that, then that bitch Darcy wouldn't be leaning in to kiss your cheek, and you wouldn't be giggling, humoring the girl, but really doing it as you stared back at your perverse professor who was staring daggers into your classmates head., "Ladies, take your seats, this isn't the proper space for such delinquent behaviors, or have you confused my class for the likes of Mr. Stark's?"
Darcy, suave as could be took her seat, but in doing so she brought you down with her, and the involuntary whimper you let out drew the redheads attention back to you immediately. The brunette beneath you was packing, that much was obvious to her, and it enraged her to see her obvious intentions personified. Judging by the look on your face you were shocked, but she could also see the clear regret in your eyes.
Firstly, you'd only planned to tease the women you adored, because you loved them far too much to step out on them, but as they'd been throwing you to the side for so long you felt they needed to remember you had options. That you wouldn't wait around forever for them to treat you like their partner, and not just a set of holes to fill. Secondly, you were only lazily flirting with Darcy, this wasn't meant to get to such places, and now she's got it in her head that she'll be having her way with you tonight, and that just isn't the case.
Especially not when Wanda walks in to see the tense situation., "Miss Lewis, you're dismissed, maybe come Monday you'll return with sense.," the girl scoffed, but quickly fixed her face once on the end of Wanda's glare, the head tilt adding the extra touch of intimidation needed., "Come on Y/N.," Darcy murmured while lifting the both of you up, but a hand gripped you by the forearm and spun you from the girls hold.
"Please, don't tell me you forgot how to listen, I only dismissed you.," Wanda chillingly relays, her hand subtly tightened around your arm causing you to wince as fingernails dug into the skin through the sleeve of your shirt., "Miss Y/L/N here has already missed a weeks worth of content, plus I saw how you pulled her down, and her face was nothing short of stunned.," the brunette, for the sake of professionalism, held back her smirk at Darcy's fallen features.
Darcy stormed off out of the classroom, and as soon as she was out you saw Natasha heading towards the door with a paper in her hand. You gulped as soon as she taped it to the outside of the classroom, following it up by pulling the curtains, and locking the door tightly shut., "Miss. Romanoff, wh-what are you doing?," you feigned cluelessness, but the mask slipped once Wanda's hand collided with your face, and you groaned when your knees hit the floor.
"Cute stunt you tried to pull kotenok.," Nat chuckled darkly, you knew better than to lift your gaze from the floor, but you were more than intrigued by the sounds of shuffling., "Didn't think we'd embarrass you, hm?," you chuckled dangerously., "I knew you would."
Wanda's fingers curled around your chin, harshly digging into the flesh as she lifted your mischievous gaze up to hers., "Oh?," she smiled down at you devilishly., "The whore was testing us, and it seems she underestimated us Natty."
A loud whirring noise came from your left, you tried to shift to see it but Wanda's grip never relented, the hairs on your entire body stood as the fear of the unknown descended over you., "What a silly little thing she is Wands.," she entered your eye line as she spoke and your body desperately tried to back away upon seeing her smirk, but she held you tightly by your shoulder while passionately kissing her wife for an unnecessarily long period of time.
"She must've been desperate to be ruined.," the redhead carelessly lifted you by your shoulder, then spun you around and slammed your front to the desk. Surveying your clothes she once again found herself enraged at the modesty., "Breaking all our rules.," she growled, using her ungodly strength she tore your turtle neck in half, tossing the fabric in her hands away as the front of it fell off your shoulders., "Better."
"Would be even better if these were gone too.," Wanda grimaced, her distaste for your brown slacks clear as day., "They're hideous, and have no business hiding our precious cunt from us."
Natasha wordlessly agreed with her, and rather aggressively showed as such by wrapping her hands around the sides of the fabric, yanking it down and ensuring that her sharp nails dug into the skin harshly enough to draw blood.
It was moments like these that confused you the most, because a huge part of you found this painfully arousing; the way they spoke of you like you were nothing more than an avenue to their pleasure turned you on immeasurably. The other part of you found it disheartening, as if all their whispered reassurances of love go down the drain with their heartless actions.
"Now listen up brat.," Wanda seethed, her hand was quick to yank your face up to meet hers by the roots of your hair. You gulped too once meeting her fiery gaze, anger and hurt prevalent., "It's about time you finally received a punishment for your recent behaviors."
The loud whirring was back, a sickening smile gracing Wanda's face as it sounds behind you., "Daddy had these custom made.," she giggles, but the humor is more so daunting as you feel a cooled leather against the back of your thighs.
"If you behave, this will be quick, and painful.," she smirks when your eyes widen., "Misbehave and the process will be tedious, and twice as painful.," and with a wink she was forcing your head back down and standing back upright.
"Thirty sound good to you moya lyubov'?," Natasha loudly asked her wife as she hovered above your ass, the leather pressed firmly against your thigh as she leaned into you.
"Thirty could work, but only if the results are deep enough.," you whimpered at the vaguely aired out words, the leather now stuck between Wanda's body and your thigh telling you this isn't the taunting, and spanking you're used to.
Natasha and Wanda shared a sloppy kiss, your body trembled with need as their lips smacked loudly, leaving you to crave a similar affection., "None of that, you knew what you were doing.," Natasha growled, their hands harshly yanked your thighs apart so you couldn't alleviate the ache in your core., "Don't forget to count and thank your mommy and daddy for each smack; mommy will be the odd hits, I'll be the even."
With a contrasting touch Wanda's hand softly ran across the swell of your ass, her fingers dipping down and teasing your entrance just enough to get you to squirm in desperation., "Maybe if you can fucking listen to the rules you'll get your pretty little pussy attended to.," she chuckled when you whined., "Hush now."
Natasha nodded at her wife, they'd decided to wait a second, leaving you in suspense for the first hit. Your body lurched at the harshness, and you cried out at the abrasive feel of the whip, it was like nothing you'd ever felt before; you couldn't place if it was pleasurable or not.
"One, thank you mommy.," you managed to get the words out, and as a reward you were met with another, much harsher smack that brought you to tears., "Two, thank you daddy."
Each hit was methodically executed, the ridges of the leather would only take to the unmarred skin if the hit was made in the same precise spot on your butt cheek every time. Normally the women would oscillate the whip between handlers, painting your backside in a gorgeous array of slashes, without any need for control. This time however required precision to ensure the word etched into your backside rose up.
They laughed with every cry that emerged from your throat, there was immense joy taken in your pain here, a punishment that fit the crime.
"Twenty-one, th-thank you mommy.," you pitifully hiccuped, and the women almost felt bad enough to stop, but the memory of Darcy's lips on you flashed through the redheads mind and the paddle came down with a sickening echo., "Twenty-two, thank you daddy.," you sobbed uncontrollably as the pain spread through your body., "I-I'm sorry, please stop..."
"Aww, we know you are baby.," Wanda gently kissed your cheek to offer you a fleeting sense of comfort., "But that's not how this works, take your punishment and stop whining."
"Twenty-nine.," you barely managed to grit out., "Ah-ah.," Wanda tutted, and you softly whispered your faux gratitude, the wives shared a smile, deciding to let you off for it., "Thirty, thank you daddy.," your body wracked with violent sobs as relief flooded your mind.
It was over, thirty painful paddling's later and your backside was no longer under attack, or so you thought, because the women shared a sick set of smiles that you couldn't see before they were rearing their arms back in sync., "3, 2, 1.," your body tensed at their cryptic countdown, then it jerked so violently forward that your abdomen met the desk, effectively knocking the wind from your lungs, and leaving you gasping.
Natasha and Wanda stepped away from your sides, smiles gracing their faces at your whines of dissatisfaction. Even with their perverse ministrations you still craved to have them close, and that delighted them beyond belief. They'd been worried they were losing you, but you just remedied their hearts greatest fears.
While you basically hyperventilated against the desk the women ogled your backside, watching in real time as their hard work slowly came to fruition. The welting process was already well underway, and it made them feel rather giddy.
Once your breathing returned to a normal enough state they returned to your side, both of them laid soft kisses to your exposed hips, and their hearts fluttered when your body relaxed.
"Pay close attention now, say the letter that I'm tracing.," Wanda softly murmured, but it was a false sense of serenity because as soon as her finger lightly trailed over the irritated skin of your ass you were a whimpering disaster., "Stay still.," she commanded through gritted teeth then began to trace over the welting skin.
"What is it baby?," you whimpered., "B"
"Good girl, so smart and so pretty.," she coo'd, then her finger slipped over to the next letter., "R.," she hummed in satisfaction, then she harshly squeezed the raw ass cheek, making your body lurch away and for you to cry out.
"Daddy's turn...," she smirked as you tensed.
Natasha wasn't nearly as nice, whereas Wanda simply used the pads of her fingers, Natasha grazed her nail over the torn up skin., "A.," she smirked devilishly at your pained response.
"Mhm.," her finger moved to the last letter, she drug it across, then down ever so slowly, making you cry with every bit of pressure she would suddenly inflict upon your skin., "T."
"Yes, and what does that spell, hm?," Wanda asked in a condescending manner, the couple chuckling softly from behind as you struggled tremendously to use your voice., "Brat..."
"Look at that Natty, she missed a week of school but she still manages to use her brain."
"All hope isn't lost.," Natasha taunts, then in an unexpected move she lifts you off the desk until your back is flush to her front, you groaned as your ass rubbed against her skirt's fabric, but a squeak of need followed when her strap was pressing into your backside just the same.
"You did so good for us kotenok.," her lips nip at the thin skin of your jaw., "You ready for a reward?," she smirked against your neck as your head bobbed above hers., "Words baby."
"Yes daddy, I-I'm ready, please...," she gripped your hips even tighter as a wave of arousal ran through her at your breathless begging., "Shh.," Wanda pressed her lips to yours., "No need to beg us now love, we'll take good care of you."
"You always do.," your soft muttering only made them more desperate to please you, the brunette dropped to her knees, using her hand she guided her wife's strap to your entrance then as Natasha entered you from behind her tongue teasingly licked at your spasming clit.
Their pace was slow, a stark contrast to their earlier ministrations, in this moment they wanted to make you tremble, to remind you that nobody else could ever love you so well. Nobody would ever know every precise angle that made you scream for more as your body racked in a sort of silent plead for it to stop.
"Are you sorry kotenok?," Natasha grunted as she thrusted a fair bit harsher into you, the leather of her top dragging over the throbbing welts on your ass, making you moan brokenly., "I'm very sorry daddy, please forgive me.," your hand fell into Wanda's hair as she began to speak into you, causing the build up within you to reach a blinding level., "'m sorry mommy, I-I love you so much, please forgive—Oh."
Wanda cut your pleading off with a harsh suck to your clit that paired with her wife's thrust., "Let go brat, it's now or never.," the redhead threatened from behind, her voice thick with rasp telling you she was on the verge of bliss herself. Something about that knowledge, and the sight of Wanda rutting against her hand as she ate you out alongside her wife sent you head first into your earth shattering orgasm.
Screams of pleasure tore from your throat, but were quickly muffled behind Natasha's hand. Your slick soon drenched Wanda's lower face, and the maroon strap between Natasha's legs, leaving the woman in awe. Natasha bit into your shoulder not even a second later as the coil within her snapped, her rutting into you only ever increased as she desperately chased that high. Wanda's ministrations never ended either as she chased her own, so as she moaned against your sensitive clit upon her own release you were thrown head first into a second one.
Natasha slowed her thrusts down as your body began to tremble uncontrollably, the second wave crashing over you thrice as hard, and it showed in the way that your slick now covered Wanda's breasts, and ran down Nat's thighs.
"Fucking hell detka, you made quite a mess.," Wanda panted as she gazed up at your face, your eyes were the type of hazy they preferred. You were always so pliant when they fucked you dumb enough, and that was today's plan.
To make you forget why you were mad in the first place, so that they can spend all weekend long reacquainting themselves with your body. Then come next weekend, if you were their good girl again they'd drive you two towns over, and treat you like the princess you are.
"What a shame detka.," Natasha breaks the silence with a pout to feign sympathy., "Had you not acted out like this all week, you'd be able to sit, and we wouldn't have had to cancel the dinner reservations at Benihana tonight."
"I-I can sit.," you tried, but whimpered just as soon as Wanda slid the tight, red leather skirt over your bare ass, it barely reached mid thigh, and you were beyond mortified at the thought of your fellow students seeing your nudity.
Natasha chuckled as her hands slid beneath your skirt just to prove your words wrong, she kneaded at the sensitive flesh, then pressed her lips to yours to catch your groans, they were this perfect balance between pained and pleasurable that left the women desperate to get you back home to destroy you further.
"No need to lie detka.," Wanda giggled from behind you, she swatted her lovers hands away from you, then in a show of genuine affection she cleaned the welting skin, then afterwards she gently applied a numbing cream to the skin, and you thanked her with soft moans.
"Feel nice detka?," she lowered your skirt, then placed a few kisses to your shoulder blades., "Mhm, thank you mommy, I love you."
“We love you too detka.,” she whispered, then softly tilted your face to the side so she could kiss you with feeling., “More than you know.,” Natasha added, her lips quick to take Wanda’s place as you naturally returned to look at her.
Your panties had been drenched, and therefore stuffed into Natasha's briefcase with a glare to hedge off your weak protests, because in the end their twisted obsession with you aroused you plenty more than it ever frustrated you.
That being said, normally you would put up a fuss for the sake of being a brat, but Natasha's eyes lit up when she saw the fight in you hardly existed., "Good girl.," she beamed, then pecked your lips with genuine affection. These marks that now adorned your once smooth skin were like badges of honor really, painful as they were you morbidly cherished them.
"Keep acting like this and we'll be able to make that dinner happen soon detka.," Wanda said from behind, sandwiching you between her and her wife once again., "We swear to it."
"No more excuses, you'll be ours to show off."
Natasha held your face to her chest, allowing you the moment to cry out all of your pent up feelings. The couple lightly swayed you, and whispered the sweetest of assurances to you, and pressed their lips to your skin in the hopes of comforting you as you let it all out.
"Head to your next class moya lyubov'.," you whimper at the command, your legs felt heavy, and the idea of sitting in one of those hard plastic desk chairs felt daunting, but you knew better than to argue with the brunette, so you savored her parting kiss, and turned back to Natasha when Wanda's warmth left you.
Natasha too kisses you rather passionately., "We'll be at home waiting for you detka, this was our only class today, don’t be late.,” she slapped your ass, laughing maniacally as you groaned and glared at her retreating form.
“Leave that attitude behind detka, we have an arsenal of new toys back at home, don’t give mommy and daddy a reason to punish you.,” she winked at you, then left through the door as her wife had just done seconds prior.
“These women are going to be the death of me…,” you whispered in faux annoyance, then after waiting an appropriate amount of time you left the classroom with a prominent limp, and a festering need in the pit of your stomach.
Natasha and Wanda still weren't going to come clean to the university, no, because that would discredit all of your hard work thus far in your minor studies, and they'd have to miss seeing your sweet face in their classes going forward.
Instead they chose to use their free time this week, that normally would've been devoted to doting on you, to find that Darcy was not only the one blackmailing the three of you, but that she was also regularly sleeping with an advisor. This is more than enough evidence to ensure your relationship stays under wraps for good.

Being Trans In Southern Nature
Being a nature freak in the south as a well-passing trans man is a surreal experience. I live in north Georgia in a blue county in the suburbs. But as often as I can, I drive out into the middle of nowhere for hiking, camping, paddle boarding, or other outdoor activities. The drive there, in and of itself, is bizarre. Inside my car I’m blasting “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman. But outside I’m driving by confederate flags, Trump signs, the Don’t Tread On Me flag, a sea of American Flags, and Christian billboards that literally say “you’re going to hell” with pictures of fire.
I often think if I ever get a flat tire on one of these trips, and anyone ever figures out I’m trans, I’d be hanged or shot. But I haven’t been clocked in years, so I push those kinds of thoughts to the back of my mind. I turn off the country back roads and onto the gravel drive leading up to a nature preserve. Pulling into the dirt parking lot there’s about a dozen other cars. Many have Trump bumper stickers. There’s no bathroom, so no concern about me being beat up for taking a piss. I always go in the woods anyway on these kinds of trips.
A full bladder is a concern for any trans person. But for this kind of trip I always take major precautions. They start back at home. After I eat breakfast and drink my coffee, I wait a full hour before leaving. I pee at least twice. I make damned sure my bladder is completely empty and there’s no chance any liquid is on it’s way there before getting into my car. I just described the kind of place I have to travel through to get to a good hiking trail. And I ain’t stopping. Not for anything. I’d rather pee my pants.
So when I pull into the lot I have my gear with me. A small backpack containing my rolled up hammock, a bottle of water, protein bars, toilet paper and my taser. When hiking, I drink barely enough to fuel my body. And if I do it just right, I don’t have to pee even if I’m out in the park the entire day. I don’t risk it. And if there really is just no choice, I’m going to go way off trail to do it. And I mean not just out of sight of the trail, but so far off the path someone would have to be crazy to come out there and spot me. Those are the kind of precautions I take.
But I just pulled into the parking lot and my dangerous bladder is empty. So no concerns at the moment. Backpack on, I start walking up to the trail head. There’s a sign there with a map of the trails on it. A blonde woman in a bright yellow shirt immediately approaches me.
“Excuse me!” she says. “Can you tell me if this is an easy trail?”
I’m used to this. Every time I go out hiking, people approach me. Everyone is friendly. Everyone smiles. And I think I must have a very approachable face. Or maybe I look experienced. Whatever the reason, complete strangers come up to me many times during any hike.
This is my first time on this trail, but I researched it beforehand, so I can answer her.
“Some of it,” I said. I turn and point at the map. “Make sure to take a right at the first fork. The entire eastern loop is easy. See, it’s marked green. You want to avoid the western loop as that goes straight up the mountain.” I pointed to the red part.
The woman nodded, “I see. And are there a lot of people on this trail?”
“From what I’ve read no. That’s why I came today. The reviews say you see hardly any body.”
“Thank you! You’ve been a great help! You seem like a really nice young man. Enjoy your hike!”
“You too!”
We part ways. I enter the trail head to begin my hike and I wonder the same exact thing I always wonder when I have these encounters. Would that nice lady turn mean and ugly and hate me if she knew I was trans? I think it every single time. There’s no way not to. I drove through Trump land to get here. I know what conservatives think of me. Or at least the idea of me. It’s not hidden. It’s not a secret. Trump has been president for 20 days at the time I’m writing this, and he has already signed 4 anti-trans specific executive orders. He is planning on discharging 15,000 trans military service members, possibly dishonorably and without their benefits. He’s planning on making it illegal for trans people to play sports. And he also wants to make it illegal for us to use a bathroom in a federal facility. He’s trying to make healthcare illegal for trans people under 19 years of age, threatening to throw parents and doctors in jail. And I watched as Trump signed these executive orders in front of a huge, cheering, smiling, clapping, crowd of conservatives.
They hate me. They want me to die. But when they meet me in real life, they all smile. They approach me. Ask me questions. Thank me for helping them. Many, especially older white men, seem to want to give me guidance, like a father figure. When I run into them on the trail, they are quick to tell me, “the river flooded that way so be careful,” or “the fishing is great at this pond! Bring your pole next time!”
I have never met an unfriendly person while hiking or camping. And I cannot help but wonder… what if they knew? What would those smiles turn into?
I choose the most difficult route on purpose to try and get out into nature alone. I want the peace and quiet it gives me. I don’t want to hear anything other than the birds, the wind, and the branches moving together. If I’m working hard enough, then my own blood pumping in my ears. For the first hour this is what I get. And I’m immeasurably happy. It’s early February and it’s 60 degrees on a sunny day. There are no leaves or greenery yet, but I’m smelling the warmth from the earth mix with the cool air. The pine trees give me plenty of green to be happy with.
But soon, as is always the case, the peace is interrupted. I hear voices from the trail ahead break the quiet. They’re loud. And there are many. Anxiety immediately kicks in. A prick of fear I can never quite control. It sounds like a group of men. And raised as a girl, I knew from a woman’s perspective just how dangerous this could turn out to be. Even having been transitioned and living as a man for the past 8 years, that was embedded in me. Possibly forever. But also having lived as a trans man for so long, my fear shifts from the possibility of being raped to being beat up instead. But again… that would only happen if someone clocked me. And that hadn’t happened in years.
I breathe in and calm myself down. I’m aware of the weight of my taser in my back pocket. I reach back and flip off it’s lid. But I leave it hidden for now. I’ve never needed it, and likely never would. After all, I have never met an unfriendly person while hiking or camping.
As the voices draw nearer, I suddenly hear a woman laugh. My fear immediately vanishes. This was a mixed group of hikers. I keep going and crest the ridge. I can see them now. There’s five, three men, and two women. And one person was black and another Asian. I breathed a huge sigh of relief. I always found it interesting just how many other minorities I ran into in the middle of nowhere in the North Georgia Mountains. And how many foreigners for that matter. During this hike, I had run into two separate Germans. Where were they staying? And out of all the places in America they could visit, they chose this tiny trail? But that seemed to be the case almost anywhere I went.
I start passing the group of hikers, and as always, I’m stopped.
“Hi! Nice weather isn’t it?” The lead hiker says.
“Yes it is!” I reply.
“Are we close to the top of the mountain?” One of the women asks me.
“Yes,” I said. “It’s not far. You’re almost there.”
“You hear that honey?” She calls back to a man huffing and puffing as he comes up at the rear. “We’re almost there!”
“Uuugh!” He groans. The woman turns back to me. “Are there really good views at the top?”
“Kinda,” I said. “You have to look through the trees, but it is a good view.”
“Oh great, thank you!”
We part ways. I once again have the same exact thought. All of them were so nice. But how nice would they have been if they’d known?
At the top of the mountain I stop. It had been a tough hike. Steep the entire way. I go off trail a decent distance so no one would see me, find me, or bother me. I set up my hammock where I can be alone. Rocking myself in it, I look out to the view. I can see across two sloping peaks in the distance and it’s really beautiful. But I can’t enjoy it as much as usual. Nature always heals me and puts my mind right. But I’d found out just the day before that the Georgia Legislature had introduced a bill to strip away healthcare from transgender people. It would ban all gender affirming care, even for adults, from anything government or state related.
I was on a private insurance plan from my job, but I didn’t know if my nurse practitioner, who’d been treating me for over 5 years, accepted any government or state funding. If her practice relied on that kind of money, I would be in a lot of trouble. She likely wouldn’t be able to treat me anymore, or risk losing all her funding. Or worse. If treating trans people was illegal, she could potentially be arrested for helping me.
It had taken me years to find someone competent when it came to transgender health. I wouldn’t be able to find someone else. Or rather, I could, but it would likely take years again. And I might be in a situation where I’d be forced to drive out of state. But even then… Trump was targeting blue states, and trying to force them to stop offering healthcare too. So going to a blue state might not have even helped.
I lay in my hammock, wondering what on earth it was I could do. My best friend the day prior had suggested flying to Canada once a year just to get my medication and then coming home. That was a very expensive solution… but one I might have no choice but to consider. Could they even prescribe me a whole years worth of testosterone at a time? I didn’t think so. But maybe I could have it shipped from Canada? How expensive would that be?
I heard a mom shouting at her giggling kids coming up the path just out of sight. They wouldn’t be able to see me where I had set up. So I was free to lay in my hammock and try to fathom what kind of lives this family likely had. How wonderful it must’ve been to not have to worry about where you could legally take a leak, or how you would legally get your medications. That mom didn’t worry about her doctor being thrown in jail. Or if she and her husband would be thrown in jail for getting her kids the proper care they needed. That little family… had no idea that absolute and ruthless hell trans families had to go through.
I wait until I hear them leave. Then wait several minutes more. Then I pack up my hammock and other things and continue down the trail. I’m blissfully alone for another hour or so. But soon I hear voices again. This time it’s a couple: a man and a woman. As they start to approach I assess them. The husband is wearing a shirt with a huge American flag across the front and the Punisher logo on top of that.
I immediately tense up. I knew well enough that the far right wore the Punisher logo. It meant the same exact thing to me as a confederate flag, don’t tread on me flag, christian cross, American flag, or anything else of the like. All of those symbols were the same. And all of them sent the same message. The woman smiles at me as they approach.
“Hi! Have you seen the pond yet?”
“Yes, it’s just up ahead.”
The man doesn’t speak or smile. He barely looks at me. The woman thanks me and they move on.
If they knew, they absolutely would have killed me. I think.
I run into only one other person on the hike, a Korean photographer. We were both lost at the time we met, and his English was difficult to understand. But I made out that he was looking for the trail to the parking lot. I pointed and told him the way I thought it was, but that this was my first time on the trail and wasn’t sure. I didn’t know if he fully understood me. So I just pointed down the trail. After we parted way, I wondered again,
What if he knew? I knew nothing at all about Korean culture. Did they hate trans people too? Or was that just in America?
I wandered for some time, trying to find the right path back. I had 2 hours of daylight left so wasn’t too concerned and my compass said I was heading west, the direction I knew the parking lot was in. So I knew even if I didn’t recognize this part of the trail, I was heading the right way. I stopped by a little stream. Tired, I sat down on the small wooden bridge going across it. Letting my legs dangle over it’s edge and feeling my blood pound in my feet, I took out a protein bar and a bag of apple slices. As I ate my snack, I looked out to the scenery. It was so peaceful and quiet. So quiet in fact that I could close my eyes and listen to the leaves move through the gentle breeze. It was my absolute favorite sound in the entire world. The day was perfect. And it was exactly why I drove so far out of the suburbs to hike in a place like this.
I just wished…
I wished that…
I wished…

SFW - Possessive Reader
MUFFY/MOLLY
You accompanied Molly to one of her friend’s weddings in the city. The day went great! Molly was thrilled to show you off along with the bouquet she caught. Afterward, the two of you left the venue for some time alone. Molly picked a little bar hidden in a corner of the city. It had rave reviews about dueling pianos on weekends. A great day until you turned from picking up your drink orders from the bar. You all but shoved through the crowd to hastily sit and link your arm with Molly’s at the table.
“Um… hi?” Molly giggled. “What’s wrong, darling?”
“…That girl over there keeps staring at you,” you seethed, glaring daggers at a girl a few tables over. You typically supported people wearing whatever they felt, but not this time. This girl’s skimpy black and sequinned outfit screamed for attention. Your arm tightened around Molly’s as her green eyes scanned the bar for who you meant. They all had their chances before Molly moved to the valley and you two started dating. It wasn’t your fault this girl was too late.
“Oh, her outfit is so cute! I love it! Where do you think she got it from?” You swore you had whiplash from how quickly your head whipped back to Molly. “Wow, it’s not like you to get jealous.”
“I’m not jealous!” you protested, painfully aware of the flush displaying your lie. It wasn’t your fault. Molly was the sweetest person you knew. You couldn’t risk her seeing that you were nowhere near her league. Molly’s lips tweaked up in a smile as she watched you.
“You’re so cute,” she teased, pinching your cheek. “You know I only have eyes for you, right? That I’m so in love with you it hurts?”
Her sly smile and sparkling emerald eyes turned you brighter than a tomato. Molly’s smile as she sipped her drink told you she knew she had you wrapped around her finger.
“Shut up,” you mumbled, glad the girl had at least averted her attention elsewhere from Molly.
ROCK
“Aw, babe, c’mon! It’ll be the perfect start to the summer!” Rock shamelessly begged.
You hadn’t even been married a month, and all of his buddies were getting together to meet. Rock promised all sorts of activities and fun as he told you about his friends. He was especially excited for you to meet his best friend, Jack. They used to be thick as thieves, and Rock couldn’t get through a story about them without laughing. How could you tell him no when he was this excited? What did you have to be apprehensive over? Jack was what you had to be worried over. Her body was perfectly toned and tanned as she embraced Rock.
Your emotions were stretched thin and ready to snap within days. Rock and Jack quickly fell into whatever rhythm they had before he left. You tried to ignore the voice whispering how much better she was and focus on the trip. It was hard when they kept sharing little jokes you didn’t understand. His eyes glanced her way as you tipped again from the surfboard he was trying to teach you how to use.
“I’m done! Just go surf with her,” you snapped, struggling from the salt water.
“Are you jealous?” he teased, paddling alongside you.
“No, I’m not!” you hissed, trying to ignore the tears stinging your eyes.
“Oh, you really are jealous!” His eyes were larger than dinner plates at the realization. Rock quickly slipped from his board to try and catch you. “Wait, why would you be jealous?”
This dense idiot made you so mad sometimes! You didn’t have much competition in the valley with how small it was. It helped that Rock treated most of his interactions with Lumina like she was a little sister too. But here?! Here was gorgeous Jack. She could do everything flawlessly and had all these memories with Rock. You hated this made you mad enough to cry as you all but unleashed your pent-up frustration at Rock.
“Whoa, hey. I never cared for Jack like that,” Rock reassured. He had scuttled out of the water trying to quell your fury.
“You’re the only one I’m putting work towards,” he blurted out. Rock looked relieved when you softened slightly at his words.
“I mean, nothing else besides you is worth the effort. Do you expect me to do any other labor in life?” his goofy smile you liked fixed on his face. You could see his gold eyes swim with worry beneath the bravado.
“You’re right; I should have known,” you relented. Rock waved off Jack’s calls back to the water and focused instead on showing you how to build the perfect sand castle.

location : uncle joe’s crab shack, fort lauderdale, florida.
featuring : FRANKALLIE !!!!! but it’s an au in which they’ve never met
for : @gallagherisms
it’s a red-hot florida summer, tide low, coast sandy, and the temperature’s already pushing ninety. saturday was meant to be her day of rest and relaxation in a rare week off from the yachting season, but so far all she seems to do is pick up the slack left by her brothers. she should be out in the van, tearing down the highway with dolly blaring from her tinny speaker, flowers in her hair and incense hanging from the mirror. she could even be tanning on an aft deck off the adriatic coast right now, a shammy in her hand and the sun on her back, had she booked on for another week of work rather than taking a so-called ‘holiday’. instead, she’s trapped inside uncle joe’s crab shack covering for leo while he plays hooky to nail some chick from arizona, because technically she owes him one, and when a castro makes a promise they take that shit to their grave. but fuck if she doesn’t wish she were someone else right now. take that cute curly-haired chick with the killer smile, for example — probably a holiday maker, sat with a bunch of other fresh faces, laughing at kai who runs the whiskey cove paddle board tours — looks like she’s having the time of her life, a stress-free existence, where all she probably has to worry about is what colour bikini to wear and whether or not she’s gonna let kai get the home run tonight. why do girls like that always end up with douchebags like kai. it’s fucking unfair. still, frankie’s trying to be a force of positivity, live laugh love in the moment and remind herself of everything there is to be grateful for, but it’s hard when it’s hot enough that it feels like sweat drips from the ceiling like stalactites, and her supposed ‘break’ has been pushed back so many times that she’ll likely have to go without. whatever. four’s only like, an hour away. she can manage ‘til then.
can you check on table fifteen, it’s the big one with the out-of-townies, kelly’s asking her, loading frankie with another two plates before she can leave the kitchen, wince bitten in by her teeth. feels like being a stewardess all over again, but there’s a reason she’d made the switch to deck crew. she’s not good at saving face and sucking back how she really feels when faced with opposition. she can’t just lie back and think of england, never had a mother who stuck around long enough to teach her the secret handshake that held the code to being a girl. “ can’t you just get bodhi to do it ? i’m already covering, like, five tables, and those guys look super picky. ” kai’s always asking for like, the weirdest thing on the menu, and then adding on a load of vegan, gluten-free, soy-free extras, as if he wants you to fuck up his order so he can write you a bad review on tripadvisor. the only thing worse than working when you’re supposed to be on holiday is serving people your age who are actually out having fun. “ fine, whatever. i can get their drinks orders. but then i gotta take my fifteen minutes. let me just run these lobsters over to table twelve. ”
somewhere in the short commute, the instructions get lost in translation, frankie instead standing before the HBO remake of forgetting sarah marshall at table fifteen, all of them fresh from the surf and smelling of saltwater. “ two surf ‘n’ turfs ? ” frankie asks, ignored at first, then clears her throat, asks for the second time, cutting through the conversation a little more coarsely. “ anybody order these surf ‘n’ turfs ? ” these plates are fucking hot. her eyes are kinda pleading with the curly girl on the end, and it’s only when she feels a tap against her back and a child’s voice that says, uh, i think those are ours... that frankie realises her mistake. “ balls. ” embarrassed, she whips around on her heel with such a voracity that there’s no time to slow her roll, and there’s a body where an empty space is meant to be, an edgar wright smash cut to something wholly unexpected, like that scene where regina gets totalled by a bus. she smacks straight into bodhi, now outfitted in the contents of his two seafood platters, her own spread of steak and lobster flying into the customer behind her’s lap, too startled to even hear the gasps of the hawaii five-o extras or the kid that’s covered in chowder. prawns hanging from her uniform, frankie turns back to the to the customer ; a lobster now sits like a cat in her lap and beef dripping clings to her shirt. “ holy fuck... i am so sorry. like, you have no idea. ” kelly’s gonna put her fucking head on a roasted halloumi and vegetable skewer. cautiously, frankie plucks the lobster from her lap. in her head, he grows an animated mouth, tells her cheer up, kid, it might never happen. well it fucking has happened. the most ridiculing moment of her life, thus far. “ please don’t tell my boss, i’m not even meant to be working today, i’m just covering for my stupid... jesus, why am i saying this ? you don’t care about my idiot brother. ” foot in mouth disease. sighing, frankie drops down, and begins plucking the fragments of plate from the floor where the sad steak sits in a pool of it’s own trimmings. “ um, i can like... cover your meal ? ” she says, her eyes scanning back up to the surfer chick covered in surf ‘n’ turf, the full florida experience. “ or your drinks, if you’re just drinking. ” though it’ll probably cost her the entire day’s pay check with the shit they’ve been drinking. it’s like margaritaville on crack. “ look... can you just... tell me how i can make this up to you ? because if i don’t then i’m not gonna sleep tonight. i’ll just keep seeing your face and bolting upright in bed like that rigged little dummy kid in monsters university, y’know. ”
#this is the ANTI meet cute x#meet gross !!!!!#frankie & callie.#can't believe im seeing their names together again.... after all this time.....#⥂ frankie castro. ╱ threads.#⥂ verse. ╱ frankallie au.#anyways it goes w out saying dont match this JKDGSKDJKGSJKHDKGHSDHG#not sure what possessed me.....#clearly i love talking abt the stresses and pressures of the hospitality industry !!

Day 169 - 19 February- Bacalar
We woke up and get a taxi to this place called Los Rapidos, that it’s a kind of natural lazy river thing that people swim down and people kayak on. It is however has formations of Stromolites that are quite fragile. We were the first people on the water but by the second go down it was fairly clear that if these formations are significant then this place should not be a tourist attraction. Even with the best will and effort in the world from people who were told not to touch them, they are on the side of water and in many cases the bed of the river!
We went down three times (very carefully) but at one point saw a guy who I think worked there stand on a big bit when getting off a kayak. We left after that and headed back to the hotel and then off to a ‘beach club’ on the lake. It was free into it but the food we bought was quite expensive and evidently frozen.
Day 170 - 20 February- Bacalar > Merida
We continued to get up really early, before sunrise. We then walked to where our paddle boarding tour started. It was walking along dark roads with lots of dogs everywhere but thankfully it seems like the Bacalar street doges are as laid back as the place. Nin unfortunately dropped her hat on the way.
We started doing the paddle boarding on our knees, getting the hang of it as we were doing it for the first time. I managed to stand up after about 5 mins and was fine after that as they are much more stable than I imagined.
We were on the tour with an English couple and Italian guy who were in kayaks and a guide on a paddle board. After about 10 mins we stopped in a little beach and had some breakfast with the sunrise.
We then boarded across the lake which gets quite deep in places. We were against the wind so had to board vociferously. We were starting to get the hang of it.
We then went for a swim in a shallow cove and then paddled across the lake back to the start point. We were going with the waves and so started to surf on them a bit which took a bit of getting used to.
We then walked back and went for breakfast in town, then checked out and our hotel owner very kindly gave us a lift to the bus. The ADO buses in Mexico are very nice so we had a very pleasant trip to Mérida.
When we arrived at our airbnb but had no code to get the key because the hosts hadn’t sent it, we tried calling the number on the website but a random woman picked up who was not the owner. Randomly the lady came past after walking her dog, and was like ‘oh did you not get the message with the code’. It was all very disorganised.
I walked to a supermarket to get some milk and got some tomales on the way back. We then went to sleep quite early.
Day 171 - 21 February- Merida
The weather in Merida was strangely very bad and drizzly. We got up and went to the gym a few hundred meters from our house. I did some running and then stretching. It was nice to do a bit of exercise again.
We then came back and went for some brunch in this nice cafe on the other side of the center. After this we walked into town and Nin went to get her hair cut. I did a tiny bit of admin and went around the town. I then picked Nin up and we went home for a bit.
We then took an Uber to this typical Yucatan food restaurant and had a ‘essentials of Yucatan food’ meal which had pulled pork and turkey in various guises. We then had a very expensive gelato and headed home to bed.
Day 172 - 22 February- Merida (Celestún day trip)
We went straight to tour operators when we got up as apparently if you were the last people you ended up on the back of the bus which reviews said was very uncomfortable. We were second so that was good! We stopped at a services to get a coffee and our guide gave us a talk about flamingos. On the way there we past a Corona brewery. We got to Celestun about an hour and a half in.
People come to the town in fishing season from Veracruz and Chiapas among other places. They might do other things in other times, like farming.
We got on the boat and went into the estuary. On the way we saw loads of pelicans, a good few ospreys and other birds like cormorants.
When we did get to the bit where the flamingos were chilling, there was a family of them feeding in the water. Unfortunately because of the rain over the last few days, the water was high and the flamingos who can’t swim couldn’t flock in their thousands like they normally do. So we had to content ourselves with this family of the majestic birds. The zoom on my camera isn’t good enough to get a good close up pic of them, it felt very like the Mitchell and Webb sketch flamingo world.

We then went through some mangrove looking for wildlife but didn’t see that much, except for a spider crab. We then went to a ‘Mayan bath’ which turned out to be shallow water in the sea where there was silt in the bottom which we put on our bodies as an exfoliation. With my peeling back, I felt like I could have used it, however it made my back a little itchy on the way back to the port. It got very choppy on the way back and it was raining big raindrops that kinda hurt.

When we got back we went for lunch which was part of the tour, which was very small portion sizes.
We sat beside this couple from Leicestershire who were recently retired and who had been away for 6 weeks doing the Guatemala volcanoes and some other places in Central America. They looked very active (the guy looked like he had about 2% body fat when he jumped in for the Mayan bath!). We chatted for a while and then went for a walk on the beach for a bit. I then went for a quick swim before we got the bus back to Merida.
We got ourselves home and showered and then went to dinner, where we were meeting Emma’s cousin (who lives in Merida) and auntie Louise who is visiting. It was very nice to see people we knew and we were chatting so much it took about 45 minutes (and one cocktail) before we actually ordered food!
The food was very good and the restaurant was on a rooftop overlooking the Zocalo which was a very nice view. I had some nice ravioli and what they called cassava risotto but ended up quite like a carbonara without the pasta. We ended up leaving at about 11 (very late for us!) and we pretty much went straight to bed!
Day 174 - 23 February- Merida > Valladolid
We got up and took an Uber to a gym in the center. It was mainly a weights gym but had a couple of quite good running machines. I did a run and then waited under a fan till Nin was ready. We then went for a quick coffee and then headed back to pack.
We then took an Uber to a clinic to allow Nin to get an X-ray on her heel that is very swollen. It didn’t look like there was a break which is obviously good! We then went to a restaurant in a hacienda outside the town, near the station. It was very tasty. We had a sopa limon and some pulled pork and some sausages from Valladolid (where we are go in to later). We then got a taxi the kilometre or so to the station.
The Tren Maya is brand new (opened in December I think) and is really swish. There are different prices for locals and tourists so it is mainly Mexican people on them which is really nice. We had one stop at Chichen Itza and then pulled into Valladolid.

Our guest house is a little out of town, but they have bikes that we can use to get into town. We biked in to a local restaurant and had some Oaxacan food. I had a Tyudia and Nin had a salad. On the way to get our bikes I ran into a spider web and quickly got out of it. When looking where the web was we saw a GIANT spider chilling in it, so I was very happy to have got out!
We went to sleep pretty early
Day 175 - 24 February- Valladolid
We got up and cycled up to this cafe and got a couple of coffees and breakfast sandwiches from this nice cafe. We then cycled to a medical supply shop to buy some crutches for Nin who was finding walking difficult. Unfortunately it was the old school crutches that got under the armpit which was quite difficult to use.
We then walked around looking for things to do but it was very hot and quite difficult on crutches so we stopped for a couple of drinks in local places.

We then came back to the airbnb and chilled out for a bit before cycling up to the cenote that is in the middle of town and had a very nice swim! We then went to the gym and I did a treadmill sesh. Annoyingly all the treadmills are set to miles (I thought it was just America clinging to imperial measurements) so I had to just run for a time and assume I had reached 5k! I’ve got more into treadmills on this trip as they really make you stay on a pace which I am very bad at!
While we were in the gym, there was biblical rain. When we cycled home there were massive puddles everywhere. We took a bit of a wrong turn and ended up getting a mad snack with corn, mayo and spicy Cheetos which was actually very tasty. We went home luckily avoiding any downpours.

We started walking into town but got a taxi mercifully early and went to a small taco place that was actually really tasty. We then got a taxi home.
Day 176 - 25 February- Valladolid
We got up early again! And got ourselves to the colectivo to go to Cichen Itza for about 7. We then got to the entrance at about 7.40. We got a guide with a German couple who were travelling with their 6 month old daughter!
When the site opened at 8 we went in and went first to the main pyramid. There was lots of confusing information about the Mayan calendar which I had mainly forgotten from Tikal. Apparently there is no shadow on the pyramid or any other in the site on May 20th at midday, as all the pyramids act as giant sun dials.
If you clap in front of the steps the echo apparently sounds like a Quetzal bird. Like Tikal the acoustics are amazing, and that clapping was used as a bell to call people to worship. They also used the pyramid as a kind of farm calendar as it looks like a snake going down the side of the pyramid on the equinox at midday. Which symbolised a snake going into the ground and fertility of soil (plant and harvest).
The pyramid was restored by people in the Carnegie institute. Also apparently America or a US university bought the site for 500 pesos before it was renationalised. They also recently found out the temple was built over a cenote as the Maya saw them as then entrance to the underworld and they were very sacred. They also built over a smaller pyramid that had been built earlier (like in Tikal).
The site was abandoned in 1300 and people think this was due to overpopulation and potentially some sort of rebellion against the ruling classes by the much more numerous peasant classes.
We then went to a building beside the main pyramid which was called the Temple of Warriors which has alignment for solstices. It was apparently the site of some human sacrifices, which came into Maya culture when there was a merger with Toltec culture from the area near Mexico City.
In the Maya calendar, every 52 years is the end of a cycle. This would lead to changes in their worship like the building of a new Chacmool which was the statue where sacrificed items would be left. I must say the Chamool is a pretty menacing figure just sitting there waiting for its offerings.

On a platform there was a relief of and eagle and jaguar with their mouths open showing the Toltecs and Maya cultures speaking to each other.

We then went to where they play the mental Mayan ball game. It is in a 170m long court (I don’t think they used all of it)
The hoop was 7 m high and it had 7 players with one one on a platform under the hoop. You could only use your elbow, hip, knees to hit the ball, although the captain under the hoop might have used a stick. The captain of the winner of the game was often executed, as they wanted their best people to be offered to the gods, and the people sacrificed could potentially skip time in the afterlife.
We then went to the observatory which was strange as it is circular where nothing else is. The area around it is cool and less busy with some interesting buildings. We saw a few iguanas sitting in the sun looking imperious. We then quickly went to the sacred cenote and then got on the bus back to Valladolid. It was over full for a bit so I sat on the floor for about 15 mins.
Seeing a Cichen Itza was voted as a new wonder if the world it made us think about our 7 wonders that we had seen. I think mine are:
Petra
Registan in Samarkand
Hagia Sofia
Ankor Wat
The monasteries of Armenia
Duomo of Florence
The Taj (although I barely saw it when I went due to the smog)
We went for a very nice lunch in this food court near the zocalo, which was slightly ruined by the smell from a bathroom wafting through the dining area. I had a sopa lima and we both had this nice fried taco with breaded pork.
After this we walked to a really nice ice cream place. I had the inspired choice of goats cheese and pomelo as a flavour combo. We then went home for a bit and had a siesta and went for a very early dinner.
Dinner was in this restaurant that specialised in tomales. We had one to share and then I had some more of the local sausage. We had a delicious hot chocolate and then went home to bed as we had got up super early again!

The Benefits of a Boat Anchor
A boat anchor is much more than just a weight which is used in mooring; it is an important safety and operating equipment in any vessel. When afloat in an ocean, a calm fresh water lake or in crowded harbours, the anchor is an invaluable tool for stability, safety, and satisfaction. To keep your boat safe and stable in a variety of water conditions, you must secure it with a strong boat mooring chain. In this article however, the multiple face of the boat anchor shall be reviewed so that you will be ready to embrace every mariner to own a quality boat anchor.
Assures Stability and Safety: The principle purpose of a boat anchor is to hold the boat in a particular place. CBIC is especially important during stormy conditions including gusts or flows of water; under these conditions the anchor provides support. By stabilizing the boat when anchored, it suppresses any swinging, entanglements or touching the bottom & causing harm to people or sinking it.
Permits relaxation and rest: An anchor is like a pause which lets you make something permanent out of your stay in a certain place without a fear of floating away.
