Ellen discovered him and the family had accepted him into the household when discovering he was a deviant. Up until the revolution, Ellen took great care in hiding the fact he’s deviant due to the circling media stories and public reactions to disobaying androids turning against their masters.

Due to his previous occupations, he’s gathered an enormous amount of data and information and seems to be the go to guy for information, making him a remarkable ally and an interesting conversationalist.

He has a collection of old books given to him by Ellen’s father to welcome him into the family.

He swears he will serve Ellen to the end of his days as thanks for saving him and defending him those years ago (Even though she keeps his servicing and repairs in order).

He’s pretty calm in the face of danger, though throw him in a room with YKs and children and he becomes so flustered because of his upright nature, though he seems alright with the younger Nicholls, likely because he's used to them.

He actually knows a few jokes and will let slip the rare pun out of his stern face.

Despite the pool of knowledge he has access to, Dexter is hopeless at directions, although that actually led to him meeting Ellen in the first place.

He is a relic of olden android tech, and treated with the upmost respect by the majority of New Jericho's community, although Simon seems to get easily upset with him over his tactlessness.
