Personally I think kryptonians’ skin shouldn’t be pliant. If a human grabs them their should be absolutely no give, just solid like rock.

Huddling for Warmth
“I decided to join a writing challenge for @bonkywobble‘s hafwayto1K. I did Huddling for Warmth and Cosmogyral. I hope you enjoy! I also have a mutil-fandom blog @saundrasays
SUMMARY: You head to DC with Steve and Bucky and on the way back after an unexpected dip in the Potomac leads to you three huddling for warmth on the Quinjet.
Masterlist // Ao3
Being a personal assistant to the Avengers was definitely more than you bargained for. You had been hired by Pepper. There were too many Avengers and not enough hands to wrangle them on the busy days or the day to day things. You accepted without hesitation, getting to work right along the Avengers, even if most of your work was tedious and some days felt like you were watching over toddles. You had gotten lucky to be given Captain Steve Rogers and Sargent James “Bucky” Barnes. They were easy to get along with, not very demanding and honestly cared for you. They asked to you go with them to meetings away from the compound and to PR stunts around the world knowing how much you like to travel and learn about the world. The arrangement was better than you could have ever hoped for after graduating college with a business management degree.
“Hey, Y/N. You ready to go? We have that meeting down in Washington today. You wanted to go didn’t you?” Captain Rogers asked knocking on the open frame of your door. You looked up from where you were packing your purse. One thing working and living with the Avengers taught you to be ready for everything.
“Yeah. I am excited. This is the first time I get to be there with the Cherry Blossom festival. I am so excited. I have been trying to go for ages. I am hoping with it being a weekday it won’t be so busy.” You quickly looked around hoping you didn’t forget anything, you patted yourself down to find you phone.
“I am glad that you get to go then. Remember to grab your camera, doll.” Sargent Barnes chimed in from behind Steve. You snapped your fingers beaming and got the top of the line camera that was their most recent Christmas gift to you.
“Thank you, Sargent Barnes. I am ready now.” You grabbed your bag. You looked up at the two super soldiers with a bright grin. You were so happy to be able to be apart of their lives, you were even happier that they got to be part of each other’s lives. The two of them moved against the wall, giving you room to lock your door and say bye to FRIDAY.
“We’re taking the Quinjet today. Well, one of them.” Captain Rogers told you. They let you go before them, shortening their stride to keep just behind you. “I figured that way you would be there as soon as possible. I know it is a little early but I figure that way you would have the whole day to yourself, sweetheart.”
“Oh! That is so nice of you. Thank you so much. We should hurry then.” You picked up your pace. Steve and Bucky shared a smile, letting you get further ahead, the picnic they planned in secret would be a perfect surprise for you too.
Upon arriving at the Triskelion’s airfield, you all got into an elevator. “Sargent Barnes and Captain Rogers, you know where you are going? You will be okay? Do I need to send the meeting points again?” You were fidgeting in place trying to force the professionalism you didn’t feel.
“We are perfectly fine. If we need anything, we can always ask someone here. We want you to go and have fun. We have a surprise planned for you around 1:30. We’ll call you okay? Go take lots of pictures. Enjoy yourself. I know you are dying to, doll.” Sargent Barnes gave you a light shove into the lobby towards the doors.
“Okay. If you are sure. Then I’ll be off. See you later.” You scurried off through the doors, a bubble of excitement practically visible.
“Oh how I wish we were going with her. I would rather do anything than this meeting. Aw, well. The faster we are done, the faster we see her again.” Steve clapped a hand on his best friend’s shoulder. “We decided to do this so we can spend the afternoon with her. So let’s get a move on. The two of them stepped back into the elevator to begin their morning of meetings that probably had no application to them, but seeing as they were the only ones free, were forced to go to.
The day dragged as slowly as they believed it would. The only thing that broke up the monotony was the food they were given constantly and the selfies you sent or the social media updates you posted. Ever picture was somehow better than the next, the lighting and angles getting better, your smile bigger. Steve and Bucky could feel their fondness and pride and affection for you grow. You may have stumbled into their lives as their PA but your meant more than that now. You were part of their family.
“Thank you both for coming today. I appreciate it. Having you here is important. I will make sure to send everything of note to you PA later today. See you later.” Maria Hill and several other SHIELD agents left the room.
“Sweet freedom! You go get lunch and I will call Y/N. Find a place to meet.” Steve said. Bucky nodded and they headed over the elevators. Steve went down in one while Bucky went up in another. Steve called you on the way down.
“Hey. I was wondering if you were free to meet for our surprise. Bucky and I got out and are done for the day. I had a place in mind if you were okay with it.” Steve’s voice came across your phone. You grinned at nothing, looking up at the sakura tree you were taking a break under.
“For you, anything. Want to meet at the Triskelion? Or should I meet you at the location? I can do either.” You packed up your meager belongings, leaving you camera out for more pictures.
“I have a spot next to the Potomac. It is near a park and has a great view. How about you meet us here and we will all go together.” Steve suggested. You hummed in agreement turning towards the Triskelion.
When you got there, Captain Rogers and Sargent Barnes were waiting patiently by the doors. They both had a basket hanging on their arms. You tilted you head in confusion. “Are-”
“Nope. No questions. Follow us. It isn’t too far away.” Steve and Bucky led the way to a small nature park on the bank of the Potomac. There was a natural depression leading to a very nice dock and scenery. The three of you weren’t the only ones enjoying the warmth of the sun. There were a few other families, but they stayed at tables while Bucky and Steve readied the picnic under a tree near the bank. They set up nice finger foods and warm tea and fruit on plates for all of you to enjoy. You took a few pictures while you all talked about your day, laughing at the two super soldiers uneasiness. The hours passed and just as you were getting ready to suggest a sunset trip back to the cherry blossoms you were interrupted but a mother yelling for her son.
“It’s too cold to swim, sweetie. We can’t go in. We have to wait for the weather to get warmer. You’ll get sick if you-” Her words fell on deaf ears as the child, laughing, jumped off the dock into the river.
“No! Charlie, you can’t swim.” The mother began to run faster but you and Steve and Bucky could see him thrashing in the water, too deep and cold for him to survive long. The mother’s screams were getting more frantic and You could feel the two men freeze next to you.
They already had issues going into water as it was, let alone the freezing water of the Potomac. You scrambled to your feet before quickly stripping your outer layers. “I am gonna get that kid.” You raced off, not even missing a beat before you arced off the dock and swam out to the kid. You could feel the bottom of the river against your toes, not enough to stand firmly. You lift the kid above you, hoping he would stop thrashing and just breath. He did as you hoped calming significantly. You were reading water badly; you could feel it sitting in your lungs and stomach. Taking a deep breath, you tucked one arm under the young boy’s armpit and used the other one to swim back to shore.
You were slower on the return trip then the way out but you were tired. Bucky and Steve met you closer to the beach, you were kneeling trying to catch your breath. Steve picked up the kid and carried him back to his mom. You could just make out their cries of joy and Steve trying to explain the risks of hypothermia and pneumonia. Bucky-seeing as you could barely stand-picked you up and carried you to the blanket. You were shivering but weakly. Not a good sign when it comes to hypothermia.
“We need to get you changed. We’ll let Steve pack up. I’ll take you back to the Triskelion, we can get you some dry clothes at least. Then we can head home, doll.” Bucky said. Steve agreed hearing the trail end of the conversation. Bucky carried you back as he said he would, upon arrival Maria met them at the door.
“I’ll help her get changed. And dried. Then you guys can head home.” Maria took you into a locker room and stripped off your clothes. You weren’t very helpful, cold and tired and lethargic, you couldn’t help her much. She removed all your clothes, muttering under her breath. She redressed you in a tank top and t shirt and jacket, and two pairs of sweat pants and socks. She helped you back to Bucky who was joined by Steve.
“Let’s head back to the jet and then we can worry about getting you warm. You aren’t even shivering.” Bucky swept you up and the three of you got on the elevator.
“Sorry for ruining the day. I wanted to get more pictures too.” You sulked in Bucky’s arms.
“Yeah but you saved a little kid’s life. We were frozen.” Steve said. “Thank you for that, sweetheart.” He headed to the pilot seat, getting the jet up and running. Bucky settled down near you taking off your jacket and his shirt wrapping you up in blankets. You snuggled in cooing at the warmth he was putting off. Steve turned on the auto pilot, sending a message to Natasha to be ready to get you into a bath upon arrival.
“Come on, Steve. Join us. She could use the body heat.” Bucky jerked his head to entice him into your human fort of warmth and comfort. The next few hours were spent cuddling the furnaces that you called friends, shivering and almost biting off your tongue as you slowly heated up.
Steve got up close to the end of the flight to land the jet while Bucky stayed curled around you, listening to the slight rasp in your lungs as you breathed. Once they landed and the ramp came down, the others could only see the top of your and Bucky’s head and a mountain of blankets.
“Only the three of you could come back from a day of meeting and return with a hypothermic personal assistant. Amazing.” Natasha said. “Come on, let me fix it. Again.” The Avengers laughed and Bucky and Steve spluttered trying to explain themselves.
“I had a good time today. Thank you for letting me go along. I enjoyed the picnic too. Now, I am gonna take a shower and go to bed. See you tomorrow.” You clambered out of the nest on the floor of the Quin jet stumbling over to a sympathetic Natasha.
“We did too. Thank you for all your hard work. Tomorrow can you see Bruce for a checkup? We don’t want you getting sick now.” Steve and Bucky waved at you and Natasha from the top of the ramp. You hollered an affirmative as you were escorted away. “Well life certainly isn’t boring with her around.”
“No. and I wouldn’t change it for the world. We should clean up. Maybe we can have a movie night or something.” Steve said.
“Hell yeah. Let’s get a move on.” Bucky cheered.

for a freeform prompt, could you maybe do the supers au, when ma pines and ma mcgucket meet?
Stan opened the door.  He smiled.
              “Hey, Mom.”
“My Stanley boy!” Ma Pinesgushed, embracing him tightly.  “I’m sohappy that you invited me to your little girls’ birthday party.”  She broke off the hug and scowled at him.  “Especially since you haven’t let me see themonce since they were born.”
“Sorry, it was kinda a messhere.  First, Angie was recovering, thenwe were getting things ready to move in together, then her brother got sick andhad to stay with us for a while.”  Stansmiled weakly.
“Fine.  But next time, I refuse to go for so longwithout seeing my grandbabies.  Got it?”Ma Pines said.  Stan nodded.  “Good. Now, lemme see Danica and Daisy. I bet they’ll make fine heroes someday.” Stan rubbed the back of his neck.
“Heh, uh, sure.  Come on in.” He stood to the side.  Ma Pineswalked inside.  She looked around theentryway.  “Oh, and, uh, don’t mentionanything about our family legacy to the McGuckets,” Stan said.  Ma Pines frowned at him.
              “Why not?”
“Angie and I had it out when Itold her that I’m a mask.  Apparentlythere used to be some masks in her family, but they died in the line of duty,if you catch my drift,” Stan said, lying through his teeth.  Ma Pines nodded.  “Her family stopped getting involved in thehero/villain game because of it, so she’s got strong opinions about whether my‘job’ is safe or not.”
“Oh, is that why she acted so oddwhen I introduced myself as Libra?” Ma Pines asked.
              “Yeah.”
“Fair enough.”  Ma Pines sighed.  “That’s sad. But understandable.  So manypeople have fallen while fighting in the name of good.”
“Stan!”  Ma Pines and Stan looked over and saw Angieapproaching.  “My Pa’s givin’ the girlshis gift,” Angie said.
              “Okay.  And?”
“You won’t want to miss it.  Trust me.” She smiled at Ma Pines.  “Hello,Mrs. Pines.  Thank you fer comin’.”
“Hello, dear.  I wouldn’t pass up the chance to see mygranddaughters.  What’s going on, withyour father?”
“My Pa gave all of his kidsspecial gifts on their first birthday. He’s doin’ that fer Danny and Daisy right now.  It’s really somethin’ to see.”
“You’ve piqued my interest,” MaPines said.  “Lead the way.”  Angie turned around and walked away.
“Angie’s pa really likes thegirls,” Stan said quietly to his mother. “When he found out both the girls had flower-related names, he lost hisshit.”
              “Is he a gardener?”
“He’s a farmer.  They’ve got a couple gardens at the farm, though.”  Ma Pines nodded.  They entered the living room, where the otherguests had already gathered.  Her eyeswidened.  “She’s got a big family,” Stanexplained.
“Ah,” Ma Pines said.  Pa McGucket was sitting on the floor withDanny and Daisy on his lap and two flower pots full of soil in front ofhim.  “What is this?”
“You’ll see,” Angie saideagerly.  She pushed through herrelatives and joined her father and daughters on the floor.  Pa McGucket handed Daisy to her.  He stroked Danny’s wispy, caramel-coloredhair.
“Here’s yer present, sweetheart,”Pa McGucket cooed, pulling one of the flower pots closer.  He placed Danny’s hands on top of the soil, his hands laying over hers.  A small, greensprout began to poke through the soil. It grew rapidly, forming a purple flower bud, before bursting into fullbloom.  “A violet.  Genus Viola.  Just like yer middle name.”  Danny giggled and clapped her hands.
“Cuteness aside, I really hopeshe doesn’t try to eat it,” Stan mumbled. “Danny’s been putting everything she can grab in her mouth.”
“Hmm.”  Stan looked at Ma Pines.  She was staring intently at Pa McGucket.
              “Mom?”
“Stanley, did I ever tell youabout Hemlock?” Ma Pines said quietly. Out of the corner of his eye, Stan saw Lute look in their direction.
              “No,” Stan replied.
“He had the ability to controlplants and was a member of Sirocco’s crew. A villain,” Ma Pines explained. Stan’s heart stopped.
Shit.  Hemlock must be Mr. McGucket’s code name fromback in the day.
“I found out about him during myyears trying to track down Sirocco. Rumor had it that he was in a romantic relationship with her.”
              “Mom, you’re not suggesting-”
“He fits the physicaldescription,” Ma Pines said.
“Yeah, but look at him!”  Stan nodded at Pa McGucket, who was now helpDaisy grow her flower.  Pa McGucketkissed Daisy on the top of her head. “He’s a nice guy, he loves the girls almost as much as I do, and he’sAngie’s dad.  You’ve met Angie.  She’s a great gal.”
“Stanley, villains have thecapacity to love and be compassionate, just like heroes,” Ma Pines saidshortly.
“Okay, well, Sirocco operated inNew York.  Angie’s dad has never been outeast.  He spends most of his time inArkansas.”
“Arkansas?” Ma Pines muttered.  “That’s where Hemlock operated.  Sirocco didn’t spend all her time in NewYork, you know.”
              Fuck!
“Get ready to grab the girls andmake a break for it,” Ma Pines whispered.
              “Mom-”
“If Hemlock is here, Siroccocould be here, too.  I don’t wanna riskmy grandbabies getting hurt by villains.”
“I thought that voice wasfamiliar,” someone drawled.  Stan and MaPines turned around.  Ma McGucket wasstanding there, her arms crossed, occasional small breezes tossing her hair.  She jutted her chin out.  “Libra.”
              “Sirocco,” Ma Pines said flatly.
Dammit!  Stan looked back atAngie.  She was trying to keep Danny fromeating her flower, and as a result, hadn’t heard the confrontation.
“Ang!” Stan hissed.  Angie looked up.  Her face paled.
              “Oh, no,” she mouthed silently.
“What are you doing here?” MaMcGucket snarled.
“I could ask you the same question,”Ma Pines said.
“I’m here to celebrate mygranddaughters’ birthday.  I hoped to doit without retired heroes around!”
“Wh- your granddaughters?” Ma Pines said, taken aback.  “But Danny and Daisy are my granddaughters.”  Ma McGucketand Ma Pines both looked at Stan.  Stanheld his hands up.
“Okay, maybe- maybe there’s someexplaining to do,” he stammered.
“More than ‘some’, Stanley!” MaPines said.
“Ladies, let’s keep it calm,”Basstian rumbled, getting up from the couch. Stan stifled a groan.
              Andnow everyone’s involved.
“Don’t you tell me what to do,young man,” Ma McGucket said shortly. She glared at Ma Pines.  “Yourlittle sister’s boyfriend brought Libra into the house!”  There were gasps from Angie’s siblings.
“You think you’re mad?” Ma Pinesscoffed.  “I just found out that my son’sbeen dating a girl with villainous connections!”
“She’s got more ‘n just ‘connections’,Libra,” Ma McGucket snapped.  “If you’vestill been tryin’ to find me, then ya know someone took on my mantle.  Who do ya think that is?”  Ma Pines gasped.  “Exactly.”
“Wh- Stanley Stanford Pines, Iraised you better than to get involved with villains!” Ma Pines growled atStan.
“Now ya know how I feel!” MaMcGucket shouted.  “My daughter had twochildren with a superhero!”  A wind beganto pick up.  Stan glanced at the livingroom window, before remembering that he and Angie had closed all the windows, due to the heat.
“Ma, cut it out,” Angie said, appearing next to Stan.  She was holdingboth Danny and Daisy.  “I know ya don’twant to knock down the cute fam’ly pictures we’ve got up.”  The wind slowly died down.  “I recognize that neither of ya are happy,but-”
“I’m furious!” Ma Pinesyelled.  Angie blanched and took a stepback.  “My grandchildren deserve betterthan a villain for a mother!”  Devastationbroke across Angie’s face.  Stan heardmovement behind him and realized that her family was about to intervene.  He put a protective arm around Angie’sshoulders.
“Mom, don’t say shit like that,”Stan said.  “Angie’s better at being aparent than I am.  You said it yourself.  Villains aren’t all heartless.”  Someone Stan couldn’t see cleared theirthroat.  “Right, that’s borderline.  The point is, villain or not, Angie’s a greatmom.  She loves the girls just as much asI do, and wants them to grow up happy.  Youcan’t say that Danny and Daisy deserve better than Angie.  That’s impossible.  Someone better than Angie doesn’t exist.”  Stan felt someone put a hand on hisshoulder.  He looked over.  It was Pa McGucket.
“Thank you, son,” Pa McGucketsaid softly.  He turned his attention toMa Pines.  “Ma’am, I understand that you ‘nmy wife have had quibbles.  But this ain’tthe time nor place to be airin’ all those grievances out at once.  ‘Specially since, well…”  Pa McGucket chuckled darkly.  “Yer way outnumbered.”
              “Pa,” Angie hissed.
“Sorry, junebug.  Anyways, the two of ya can be mad at eachother.  But ya can’t be mad at Stan ‘nAngie fer fallin’ in love and havin’ two beautiful children together.”
“That’s not the right order,”Lute mumbled from somewhere outside of Stan’s field of vision.  There was a soft thud, like someone being hit. “Oof!”
“I won’t deny that it’ll be difficultfer our families, but we can make it easier on everyone involved,” Pa McGucketcontinued.  He frowned at Ma McGucket andMa Pines.  “Fightin’ in front of Dannyand Daisy on their birthday will notmake it easier.”
“I agree,” Angie said.  “Please don’t blow up at each other like thisin front of the girls.”  Danny caughtsight of Stan and began to fuss loudly, reaching for him.
“Come here, princess,” Stan said, taking Danny from Angie.  She giggled andgrabbed at his hair.  Ma McGucket and MaPines exchanged a look.
“I won’t be polite, but I will becivil,” Ma McGucket said after a moment. She glared at Ma Pines.  “And only‘cause my granddaughters are yours.”
“Don’t worry, I feel the sameway,” Ma Pines said shortly.  An awkwardsilence fell.  Stan cleared his throat.
              “Who wants cake?”

Coming Out for Whispered Affections
Pike never felt so much fear in his life then he did in this exact moment. Drawing in a deep breath, Pike clenched his fist as he silently walked into the kitchen. Now was the perfect time. Branda was out with some friends for the time being and his dads were sitting at the table, talking in low voices. He watched their mouths move in their silent duet as he gripped the door frame. His fingers shook as he reached up and knocked on the wood, announcing his entrance. Lance looked and before directing Keith to look over his shoulder. They both smiled at him as he entered the room.
‘Hey, how was school?’ Lance asked with his free and Pike let his gaze drift down to his dads’ intertwined fingers with a bittersweet smile. Part of him wanted what they had, while another part was focused on his current plan.
‘Good.’ He replied as he slid into a seat where they both could see him. Keith’s good eye drifted across the teen’s face before signing with a furrowed brow.
‘What’s wrong?’ Lance glanced over at his husband before looking back at Pike.
‘Nothing.’ Pike tried to shrug him off, knowing that he was failing. He was just as bad of a liar as his biological dad. Keith raised his scarred brow at him, letting him know that his answer would not do.
‘You seem worried.’ He pressed on. ‘Is something bothering you?’ Lance’s grip on Keith’s hand tightened, fear slowly speeding up his heart. It wouldn’t be the first time Pike had trouble at school since Pike was stubborn and demanded to go to a ‘regular’, public school. Pike raised his shoulders and looked away. Lance frowned as he reached across the table to grab his hand.
‘I have something to tell you.’ Pike signed slowly as he removed his hand from Lance’s. The two fathers looked at each other before nodding at him with serious faces. If this was anything that they thought it was about, they knew how hard this would be for him. Pike stood and shuffled his feet. He lifted his hands, set them on the table, and then lifted them again. He started to form signs before shaking his hands and setting them down again. Taking one last deep breath, he met their eyes and started to sign.
‘Dad, Pa’ He used the sign for ‘dad’ to refer to Lance and a shorten version of Keith’s name to call him ‘Pa’. ‘I-’ He paused. Another breath. ‘I want to learn how to talk.’ He stopped his signing to look at them. Keith nodded slightly as Lance looked as if he didn’t know which direction was up or down anymore. Pike licked his lips as he continued. ‘Well, not like ‘talk talk’, there’s just one phrase I really want to learn. It’s for something really important and I wanted to talk to you first.’ He looked down at his hands as he placed them in the table. For the first time in a long time, Pike hated the silence. Pike was startled out of his thoughts when he was pulled into a bone crushing hug. Lance held his boy tight as he tried to stop the tears. He stepped back so Pike could see him.
‘If that’s what you want, then we will support you. I just don’t want you to do something just because others say you have to or cause you feel like you don’t fit in unless you do.’ Pike nodded as he fitted himself back into his father’s embrace. As he pulled away, Lance signed ‘I love you’ before kissing his head. Keith stood up and did the same with slightly tear glazed eyes. Pike laughed his gurgle-laugh as he stepped back. He wiped away any tears as he headed to the door. He stopped before he exited, turning back to look at them.
‘One more thing,’ He signed as they looked back at him. ‘I am pansexual, but no big deal you know.’ He giggled again as he watched his Pa shake his head as Lance throw his back in laughter. Pike grinned as he scampered up the stairs, phone in hand.
-Step one complete.
He sent the message as he flopped onto his bed with a smile. Within seconds, he received a reply.
-Awesome! Part two activate!
Pike snickered to himself as he rolled over onto his stomach, phone clenched to his chest. Maybe if this whole thing worked out, he could start on another plan. One that involved a different love.
~~~
As weeks past, Pike grew more frustrated with himself. He understood that it would take a while and that it would be hard, but he didn’t think he would get stuck on a single letter sound. Mil laid on his bed, swinging their feet as they watched Pike pace his room. They slid off of the bed and onto their feet before walking over to him. Reaching up, they stopped Pike’s pacing and removed his hands from their position of tugging his hair.
‘Calm down.’ They signed as they pushed him on his bed. ‘Take a deep breath and try again.’
‘I’ve been trying!’ Pike emphasized his words with harsh movements. ‘I just can’t get it. I might as well give up.’ He huffed as he flopped onto the bed. Mil snorted as they reached for a pillow, driving it downwards onto Pike’s head. He shot up at the force of the hit, turning to see them with their hand sitting on their delicate hip. ‘How could you use my disability against me?’ Pike faked a hurt face as he watched their shoulders shake with amusement.
‘I see your dad to it to your pa all the time, and you find it funny.’ Mil replied as they sat down next to him, hugging the pillow. Mil had decided against a binder today, meaning they felt a little more feminine, but not meaning that they were still a little uncomfortable. Pike reached for the pillow with a smile and then stood in front of his small friend. He tightened his hands into fist as he moved to the mirror, determined to get this right.
~~~
Today was the day. Pike had perfected the line to the best of his abilities. He felt his palms sweat as he looked around the room. They all had gathered in Hunk’s restaurant to celebrate Lance’s birthday. Everyone chatted amongst themselves as light music played in the background. In less than five minutes, Pike was going to stand in the front of all of them and hopefully give his dad the best present ever. Feeling his phone buzz in his pocket, Pike removed it to see a text from Mil.
-Good luck!  Pike smiled as his fingers slid over the screen.
-Thanks <3
-<3
A hand on his shoulder startled Pike away from the technology in his palm. Hunk smiled softly at his as he carelessly signed ‘sorry’. Pike smiled as he shook his head before meeting Hunk’s eyes.
‘Is it time?’ He asked with slight fear. Hunk nodded as he patted his back, pushing him forward.
‘Go break a leg kiddo,’ Pidge signed as he passed them. He giggled softly as he walked up the steps. The music stopped as the crowd turned towards him. Lance, Keith, and Branda were seated at the table right by the stage. Lance nudged Keith softly as he leaned over to explain something to him. As both of his parents’ gazes fell on him, Pike began to sign in big gestures, making sure everyone could see him.
‘Thank you all for coming tonight. While all the gifts have already been passed out, I have just one more.’ Pike turned to face Lance only. ‘Dad, I could never sign how grateful I am for you. You act as if it was no big deal, but you did the impossible. You put yourself aside in order to raise me the best that you could after the unimaginable happened. No matter what happened, or what you were going through, you made sure that I had the best life ever. And I could never thank you enough for that. Branda and I could never ask for a better Dad, or a better Pa.’ Pike paused to giggle slightly as Lance pushed Keith’s shoulder playfully. ‘While I could never sign anything great enough to show you how much you mean to me, I think there is another way I can.’ Pike took a deep breath as he saw Lance freeze up. Pike walked closer to the edge of the stage, where Pidge handed him a microphone. Lance gripped Keith’s arm as tears started to fall from his eyes. Pike licked his lips as he brought the mic closer to him. Clearing his throat, he locked eyes with Lance, all while sending a silent prayer that this went okay. “Dad,” Pike’s voice was rough and cracked from lack of use, but it still sounded wonderful. “I love you so much.” He spoke slowly and carefully, making sure to form the words like he was taught. He glanced down at Pidge, who gave him a thumbs up. He did good. As he looked back up, Lance was full on crying as he stumbled up the stair to Pike. Tackling him into a hug, Lance cried on his son’s shoulder as people in the audience clapped and cried. Keith stood slowly and made his way up the stage with Branda. Lance pulled away slightly to sign with clumsy hands.
‘You sounded beautiful. Thank you.’ He pulled him back into a hug as Pike gurgled with a body shaking laughter. Keith placed a hand on his back as he pulled the family into a hug.
