[📰] 6 Rookie K-Pop Groups to Watch in 2021
P1Harmony
Members: Keeho, Theo, Jiung, Intak, Soul, Jongseob
P1Harmony’s entry to the K-pop scene came with a cinematic surprise: a full-length sci-fi film, P1H: A New World Begins, starring the group’s six members. The movie, created to build a fictional universe around their identity, hit theaters in South Korea on Oct. 8, just weeks before the new FNC Entertainment act dropped its first EP, Disharmony: Stand Out. While the approach of a K-pop group making a debut on the big screen was creative, it was the content in this hip-hop heavy EP that established P1Harmony as a formidable rookie act. “Siren,” the lead single, features an addicting hook and a clever use of quasi-homophones—wiheom, the Korean word for danger and wiong, which imitates the sound of a siren—to deliver a sense of urgency. The other tracks from the release are bangers in their own fashion, packed with punchy rap verses that the members helped to write. And while the rap portions of P1Harmony’s tracks are a highlight, the stream of choreography videos posted over the past months proves that the members have dance chops to show off, too.

hii it's been a while but i'm that non-deobi (who is close to falling in love with them lmao). OH i have a bias line now—sunwoo (god that man is so funny), q and juyeon. i think i heard one of sunwoo's rap verses and i almost fainted..
drink it is great and i'm not just saying that bc i think vampires are hot, honestly the universe singles have been so good so far. also i listened to maverick (before my deobi friend HAHA) and it's stuck in my head. nothing beats no air for me tho (also hwall AH i love him and he's so perfect too)...i'm trying to learn the dance god i would love to be able to do it at parties or something. pls i need to check out more tbz songs i know like 30% of their discography (oh yea my most played song from them is kingdom come bc i listened to it so many times when the kingdom finale singles came out LOL).
honestly i should just stan tbz now, one of my other favorite idols went to same vocal academy as jacob, tbz is everywhere on my fyp and my friends talk about them all the time but i'm not complaining.
haha you did ask me a couple things i don't know if you remember but one was wannabe, burn it, or ra pam pam, for me burn it all the way even tho that's a hard choice.. they haven't missed at all for me this year. also for cix my favorite from their full album was bad dream.
OH yea you asked me if i write yea i do! seeing other writers' styles is so cool and inspires me a lot, even if i'm not part of a certain fandom i just love seeing people's talent. the thriller sangyeon fic was so wonderfully creepy, i'd go into the woods alone with him lmaoo.
damn this got long. hey, is 🦋 taken for an anon emoji? i figured you should have something better to call me by too than non-deobi LOL.
hiii it's good to hear from you again, i hope you've been well!! i've been calling you non-deobi anon in my head AHAHA but yes you can have the 🦋 emoji!!
oh YAY a bias line!! you mentioned appreciating q's dancing before but i see the other main dancer has made it too?! sunwoo's raps in the past few songs have indeed been fatal though, like the whisper rap in drink it and thrill ride, then maverick *_* the "they call me little bad" part is sooo catchy
VAMPIRES ARE HOT AHAHA that mv... yes indeed some hot vampires (ft. human younghoon 😍). totally agree that the universe singles have been good tho! no air was a fun time, oh have you seen their kingdom performance of it? dancing it at parties would deffs make you the coolest person there LMAO or if you ever get a chance to do a random play dance event!! oh but thoughts on maverick??? did you listen to hypnotized and russian roulette as well? some of the older ish bsides i like are: L.O.U, text me back, get it, got it, and scar, if you wanna check those out!! i love kingdom come though, even made an instrumental cover of it and checkmate too 🤩
yeahHHH you should stan if you have the time!! though i feel like you stan a lot of groups already? (cix, astro, golcha, is there anyone else!!) ooh the idol that went to the same vocal academy as jacob, is that keeho? but does that mean you like p1h then bc i went through their discography and they have some reaaaal good stuff, and keeho is another fellow canadian whooot <3
ohh yeah burn it was so good!! (OKAY AND sungyoon getting casted in a musical?!?????) i was hoping the maverick mv would be a whole cinematic mv with storyline like burn it or ra pam pam but... that's ok... still cool LOL. ahh bad dream was also my fav from that album 😍
omg i wanna read and hype your writing 🥺 and same i love seeing diff writers' styles and learning from them so yeahHh would love to branch out and explore more!! but as always, thank you for sticking around and reading my fics 🥺💓✨💯🌸💫

FNC Entertainment is gearing up to debut a new boy group! On August 27, FNC Entertainment released a poster teasing the new project “P1H: The Start of a New World” (literal translation), which they described as a fusion project combining K-pop and K-movie. “P1H: The Start of a New World” is a project that cinematizes the universe of FNC’s new boy group that is scheduled to debut this fall. The story will be about boys from different dimensions who gather together to find the star of hope in order to save the Earth, which has fallen to ruins due to a virus that maximizes people’s rage and violence. The story is based on the legends of Alkaid, the easternmost star in the Big Dipper that is known as the star of hope, and of Alcor, a faint star that shines next to the Big Dipper and is known as the devil’s star because it was believed that people who saw it would die soon. The film will be written and produced by director Chang, who worked on “Canola,” “The Target,” and “Death Bell.” In addition to the six members of the new boy group, actor Jung Jin Young and CNBLUE’s Jung Yong Hwa will be starring in the film. Director Chang shared, “K-pop artists are differentiated by the fact that they have their own musical universe, and that’s why they’re receiving love from people all over the world.” He added, “I wanted to combine two genres that are the pride of Korean culture and take on the new integrative challenge of conveying the musical universe of K-pop through the story of a film.” He also expressed his hopes for many fans to be able to easily understand and get more emotionally attached to the world built for the new boy group and gain comfort and support from the story. The new boy group’s album has also been produced with the story and universe of “P1H: The Start of a New World” in mind, and they will continue to expand this concept and their philosophies in future albums and promotions. The film’s first teaser poster paints a fallen city and a huge drone that covers the sky along with the backs of six young boys, who were spread across the future, past, and present. The teaser captures the moment they come together in a world contaminated by a virus due to an evil organization. Fans are already curious to discover what exciting stories will unfold and what the meaning behind the title “P1H” could be. “P1H: The Start of a New World” will be released this October. [📰] One To Watch: P1Harmony Sets The Bar With The Very First K-POP Movie Debut
By Mika Reyes
Meet KEEHO, THEO, JIUNG, INTAK, SOUL, and JONGSEOB of P1Harmony, the newest K-pop boy band that are not only artists, but actors as well.
Hey, K-pop fans! Have you ever heard of the a K-pop cinematic universe? Well, if you haven’t, then you should probably check out the newest K-pop boy band, P1Harmony. These boys have got it all: vocals, dance moves, visuals, and even acting skills. Yes, you heard that right, acting skills. KEEHO, THEO, JIUNG, INTAK, SOUL, and JONGSEOB are debuting through a K-pop film titled, P1H: A New World Begins. The group is the first in history to be debuting via a cross-general blockbuster film. Lucky for you MEGA has got an exclusive on the new boys of FNC Entertainment.
P1Harmony on P1H: A New World Begins The boys of P1Harmony worked day and night to bring the best performance in their debut, because the first ever K-pop movie debut was not a walk in the park to achieve. KEEHO, THEO, JIUNG, INTAK, SOUL, and JONGSEOB had to dedicate long hours in preparing their vocals, dance routines, and their acting skills. The group even had formal acting lessons prior to shooting the debut movie. MEGA: How was the group formed and when did you start training together? KEEHO: It’s been a year and half since we trained as a team. We were formed with the 6 members who had the best chemistry and the best harmony as we practiced. MEGA: How does it feel like debuting through your movie, P1H: A New World Begins? Are you excited? INTAK: I think it was an honor to be the very first group to debut with a movie. I thought it was so cool. MEGA: How did P1Harmony prepare their acting skills for the film? THEO: We had continuous acting lessons for the 2 months, which was the preparation time for the movie. I searched actors acting scenes to study.
The Talent Behind P1Harmony’s Music If there’s one thing that we noticed about P1Harmony’s music, it’s that they have a sound like no other K-pop group we’ve heard before. The group was adamant about creating their own identity and forming their own path as artists. Aside from this, they are very hands on in all their endeavors. It’s important for a group like P1Harmony to form a distinct personality in their earlier years to create a solid foundation for all the boys. MEGA: In terms of music, what does P1Harmony have in-store for us in their debut? KEEHO: I think that we try to put in as much as genre as possible. I personally want to show the audience how many different types of concepts we could pull off. If you listen to the album you won’t find a song that sounds similar to each other. They all have distinct sounds. MEGA: What was your first impression, when you first heard the songs from the debut? JONGSEOB: First of all, the siren-like sounds in the beat was very impressive, and I had to think about how the rap part should be like for it to sound good.
P1Harmony’s Take On Molding Their Own Identity FNC Entertainment has made multiple successful K-pop groups, such as: CNBLUE, AOA, N.Flying, and the likes.. P1Harmony’s group identity is uniquely their own and can not be compared to the company’s past successes. Aside from this, the group continuously improves their music by incorporating messages into the songs that hold a deeper meaning. MEGA: What makes P1Harmony different from the other K-pop groups? JIUNG: We try to contain the identity. We lead in all aspects including composing of music, lyrics and performances. We are involved in the progress from the sketch since our debut. We are trying to lead the activity. For our track, Intro: Breakthrough and That’s It, we completed it from the message and the story. We’ve put our focus on identity even before our debut. We’ll be showcasing results that has been worked with those messages so please stay tuned. MEGA: Do the members of P1Harmony look up to any other idols from different groups? THEO: There is something to learn from all of the artists. It could be how they find and look at the camera onstage, facial expressions that changes every stage and more. It was very difficult for me but seeing all the different artists’ perform on stage, I was amazed and I’ve learned a lot.
The Future Of P1Harmony The future is bright for P1Harmony. After debuting, the group hopes to create more music that resonates to an international and local market. They also dream of one day touring around the world after the pandemic has been lifted. These bright eyed artists are ready to take on the world with much to offer to their fans. MEGA: Will P1Harmony be touring to the Philippines, as soon as the pandemic is lifted? INTAK: Yes! If we have the chance, we will visit the Philippines and meet our Filipino fans. MEGA: What’s in-store for P1Harmony in the coming years? KEEHO: Well, hopefully we continue to make music. More importantly we want to make music that touches people’s hearts musically and with a message and we wish to continuously make music that is genuine and sincere to us. JIUNG: We are preparing activities that will make us more aware of what kind of group we are. There are different activities that are in progress for P1Harmony to hear that P1Harmony is a distinct group as the years go by.

[📰] Why Launching The K-Pop Group P1Harmony Involved Making A Film
By Joan MacDonald
The price tag to debut a new k-pop group can easily reach $1 million and that’s without producing a feature film. However, a film introducing the group’s backstory may soon be seen as essential to any k-pop group’s debut marketing strategy. That’s what Korean entertainment agency FNC Entertainment did to help their rookie group P1Harmony stand out from the dozens of groups making a debut in 2020. Before delivering a sleek music video to showcase the group’s crisp dance moves, catchy sound and appealing visuals, FNC produced a feature film starring the idols and a bevy of k-celebrities.
In P1H: A New World Begins, the rookie idols play beings from different dimensions. Soul is a “survivor with immunity.” Jongseob is a “genius engineer.” Intak is “the boy who doesn’t die.” Jiung is “destroyer.” Keeho is a “space-time traveler,” while Theo is an “outstanding hunter.” These characters join forces to save the earth, which has been ravaged by a virus that enflames human violence. Before appearing in the full-length film, the group’s members had no previous acting experience.
The film also features performances by veteran actor/director Jung Jin-young, CNBLUE’s Jung Yong-hwa, AOA’s Seolhyun, actors Jo Jae-yoon, Choi Yeo-jin, and Lee Chae-yoon, plus cameos from actor Jung Hae-in and actor/comedian Yoo Jae-suk.
The project was written and directed by Yoon Hong-seung, aka Chang, who directed the award-winning film Target and previously crafted music videos. The original intent was to present the P1Harmony k-pop universe as a short series through OTT channels or on YouTube, but when the final version ran close to 100 minutes, FNC opted for a cinematic release.
While it’s not the first time a k-pop group presented a backstory that subsequently echoed through their music videos or created an idol universe for reference, it may be the first time that a k-pop group’s universe was presented in a feature film as part of a debut.
“As far as we know, there is no newly debuted idol group promoting like P1Harmony and therefore this is the very first and a unique way of promotion in the world,” said Raymond Cho, COO of Maxperience, the Hong Kong-based promotion and talent agency, working with FNC to promote the group in Asia. “Also, the debut songs of P1 Harmony are produced according to the prologue and worldview of the movie P1H: A New World Begins and all of their further music activities will be aligned with the worldview of this movie.”
FNC mentioned plans for the new rookie group in Nov. 2019, then in Feb. 2020 announced plans for a summer debut. The agency released a teaser poster for the film in August, describing it as a fusion project between k-pop and a k-movie. The teaser alone has almost three million views on YouTube. The film premiered in Korea on Oct. 8, with the music video for the group’s debut single Siren being released a few weeks later.
There were marketing challenges involved in concurrently promoting a new idol group and a movie.
“This project was different from what we usually do, as we had to promote both a new movie and an idol group simultaneously, not only in one country, but also globally,” said Max Jang, founder of Maxperience, which promotes such k-celebs as Jung Hae-in, Blackpink and Jay Park by arranging live and online events and through media and marketing partnerships.
The pandemic also presented extra challenges for film distribution and, with theaters closing, shifted even more promotion online.
“Twenty minutes of highlight video were streamed globally through JOOX, Yahoo TV, QQ TV, RCTI+, Kakao TV and Amazon Music AMZN +0.6%,” said Cho.
The film’s release in Korea generated considerable buzz among fans and favorable reviews. P1H: A New World Begins is not yet available in the U.S.
