Between Flowers and Tangles | P x reader
Tumblr media
I thought of a line of thought that P wants to woo the reader and that one form of wooing is to give flowers; the problem is that they didn't explain to him what kind of flora and fauna should be given as a gift as a bouquet and he does things like:
Tumblr media
On his first attempt, P arrived at the hotel with an entire tree that he had uprooted from some random place. He held it with both hands, smiling proudly, while Gemini is desperately trying not to laugh.
Determined to improve, Pinocchio chose to collect flowers and herbs, not knowing that some were poisonous. He unintentionally caused a slight allergy to the reader, prompting him to apologize profusely.
On a third try, P decided that twigs with small leaves and spider webs were a safer option. At least, they weren't poisoun, he thought to himself.
He immersed himself in books, trying to figure out what he should include in a bouquet. After a crossroads between chaos and Krat's destruction, he found a small, but living, flower.
Very carefully, he plucked the flower from the ground and placed it in his bag, trying to protect it as if it were a valuable treasure, ready to carry it safely back to the hotel.
Upon arriving at the hotel, clumsily but gently, he handed the small flower to the reader. The next morning, a pot with the same flower appeared in the reader's room.
He saw the flower in the reader's bedroom, and felt the gears of his heart beating at full speed. So he decided to bring them little flowers little by little. Although it was a difficult and tedious task, every time he saw the reader's sweet smile, he knew it was worth it.
Sometimes, Pinocchio added small stones of curious shapes that he found in his travels. Although they were not flowers, they had some charm.
Little by little, the reader's room was filled with small pots of flowers (which miraculously survived in Krat), giving a touch of life and color to the place. All carefully attended to with the love and affection of a certain human.
Each flower was Pinocchio's silent way of expressing his love and devotion. Because, although he did not know how to express his feelings in words, his mechanical heart was full of love to give.
The hotel residents used to smile when they saw P return covered in dirt and mud, but with a spark of excitement in his eyes when he brought new flowers. Although Gemini wasn't so pleased that his lamp got dirty in the process.
But he wanted to do something bigger. So he gathered a considerable amount of flowers and, with the help of Gemini, he tried to put together a bouquet. Gemini, with a mixture of patience and desperation, suggested that he decorate it with a ribbon or wrap it in paper. "No, Pinocchio, we can't add metal parts or a weapon, much less Spring!"
With the bouquet in his hand, Pinocchio walked excitedly towards the reader's room. He knocked on the door and hid the bouquet behind his back. The reader received it with a smile, and Pinocchio, with a gesture full of tenderness, revealed the beautiful bouquet that he had made with so much effort.
Seeing the blush and happiness on the reader's face, He knew that everything had been worth it. Just as he was about to leave, he felt the reader's soft caress on his cheek and a chaste kiss on the lips that left him completely stunned, his circuits almost shorted out.
The only witnesses of that magical kiss were the charming flowers, pampered with such dedication, and of course, Gemini, who, although accidental, was the third wheel in that romantic moment.
But, being a Gemini, he couldn't resist the temptation and muttered shamelessly: "If you need a mood lamp for more romance, just let me know, I'll be here… with the spotlight off, of course."

Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964)
"Miriam? He really... isn't here, is he? Just now, I thought I heard... sometimes at night, when I wake up, it seems as if he really is here. Don't turn on the light. It's not real when it's light. It's only real when it's dark - dark and still."
#hush...hush sweet charlotte#hush...hush‚ sweet charlotte#robert aldrich#1964#american cinema#lukas heller#henry farrell#bette davis#olivia de havilland#joseph cotten#agnes moorehead#cecil kellaway#victor buono#mary astor#wesley addy#william campbell#bruce dern#george kennedy#frank ferguson#frank de vol#Aldrich's follow up to Baby Jane reunited him with star Davis (and initially Crawford‚ until she left the project under a cloud; she can#just about be glimpsed in one of the long shots of cousin Miriam arriving at the house by taxi) and even provides a cameo for Baby Jane co#star Buono. the rest of his cast is also notably starry: de Havilland‚ Cotten‚ Moorehead‚ even a genuine cinematic legend like Astor not to#mention a pre fame Dern and Kennedy. sadly all that increased star power doesn't translate to a film even better than its predecessor#this is solid‚ a strong and sweaty gothic grotesquerie‚ but it's a little flabby and nowhere near as sharp or as honed as Baby Jane was#Davis often goes very large and brushes caricature more than once with her faded Southern belle but to give her her dues there are other#moments of true heartbreaking beauty in her performance. de Havilland is also very strong altho maybe tips her hat a little soon in#revealing the true personality lingering beneath the surface of her mysterious outsider. Aldrich is as strong as ever helming a killer#fantasy sequence... tbh the more i think about it the kinder my memory of this becomes. it has just one main flaw and that's that it isn't#Baby Jane. but then what is? Aldrich never quite hit those heights again (tho he did some p great work) and this is a commendable try

people don’t call inquisition/da:d “elf simulator”/”elf age” because they hate elves and elvhen lore. Let Me Be Clear:
- elves have the most special dialogue options. even more if you’re a f!mage. bioware accidentally forgot dalish elves know who mythal is for ONE dialogue wheel and people really used it to run with the idea that elves were somehow narratively shafted during inquisition; meanwhile dwarves in the descent dlc, you know, THE DWARF DLC where you get your Crumb Of Dwarf, you get next to no special dialogue options besides being told by valta that you’re not a Real Dwarf and you don’t have stone sense (which isn’t even true. stone sense comes back to all dwarves if they’re underground long enough. this is more of bioware trying to prove all the disgusting corrupt systems in place are Acthually Correct Trollol.. that or they just forgot bc they dont care.)
- eluvians, the fade, fen’harel, everything that comes out of solas’s mouth, a chunk of WEWH, inquisitor ameridan being a dalish elf, etc is not at all narratively relevant to anyone but an elf inquisitor. spin all the stories you want to make eluvians and elvhen gods important to your non-elf OCs but off what we get in the games alone, without doing an ungodly amount of work to make it fit, what BIOWARE has established, it means nothing. you can argue that all of this is important to the inquisitor on principal of them Being inquisitor but... be fucking serious
- elves seeing the crossroads differently than other races. just another special elfy thing
- every single religion is being geared up to link back to the elves. i think we can all agree by now that andraste is flemythal and the maker is mythal (whether u think the theory is good or not is neither here nor there, bioware is so predictable at this point). and thank god she freed the dwarves from the titans, amirite! it’d really suck if the dwarves had something exclusive! (bioware if you try to paint the titans as slavers and mythal as the Dwarven Savior........................)
- you can make an argument for any of the origins in da:o fitting “the best” as canon. the dalish elf is as ignorant to the world outside of the forest as the player is. cousland is your classic betrayed hero thrust into saving the world tale. dwarves are intrinsically tied to the darkspawn/wardens. the mages are freed birds but the world outside their cage is corrupted and torn asunder. tabris/brosca is your saving the world that never fought for them back tale. they all equally mean something in unique, valuable ways to the main story and it shows through ample unique dialogue options and main quest relevance.
- can you REALLLLYYYYY say the same for all of the non-elf da:i origins? what do we got, a mercenary vashoth. a carta dwarf. a human noble or mage. all random NPCs fr. but the dalish elf who unlocks the power of an elvhen orb which leads to a slew of world-shattering reveals about the lore they grew up with and believed in? meanwhile ur dwarf/human/qunari inquisitor didn’t even know there WAS a plot twist. they didnt even know there was a plot
- all of this extra elf stuff would be perfectly fine. the countless elvhen ruins, lore reveals etc. if it was even REMOTELY evenly distributed across all the races. BUT IT’S NOT.
- it would also be fine if inquisition was a one-off elf-focused game but they used the opportunity to take from every other races’ lore and make it about elves, so now A. there’s no going back, B. the 4th game’s title is literally dreadwolf wow i wonder who the story is going to be written for, C. if i ever have to hear with my own two ears “i’ve been through shit that would make the deep roads look like a cake walk!” followed by the dwarf at the receiving end of this Dying From Being Pwned, i’m going to get violent
- the point is that it’s bioware’s fault, not the elves. “elf simulator” is poking fun at biowares pandering to solavellan twitter, not at elf players lmao

50 Years of Island Books: Ashley Ream and Lee Kravetz
Tumblr media
Ashley Ream is a former journalist and the author of two acclaimed novels, The 100 Year Miracle and Losing Clementine. She and her books have appeared in L.A. Weekly, Los Angeles Magazine, Bust Magazine, the Toronto Star, The Seattle Times and the Kansas City Star, among many others. Born and raised in a working-class town near Kansas City, she has since moved all over the country, doing stints in Florida, Texas, Los Angeles and Wisconsin. She currently lives in a small house in the big woods outside of Seattle.
Lee Kravetz is the author of the novel The Last Confessions of Sylvia P., as well as acclaimed nonfiction, Strange Contagion and Supersurvivors.  He has written for print and television, including The New York Times, New York Magazine, The Atlantic, Psychology Today, The Daily Beast, The San Francisco Chronicle, and PBS.  He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Miriam: Ashley and Lee, I'm excited to have you two together on the blog. Our readers and even many of our staff don't know this yet, but Island Books is responsible for a special moment in your lives that I was lucky enough to witness. I can't think of a better anecdote about how bookstores bring people together and create community. I'll let you tell the story, but first, let's start with how you came to Island Books and where you were in your lives and careers when you first made the connection.
Ashley: I discovered Island Books after moving to Seattle in 2015. It was right before my second book, The 100 Year Miracle, was published. Right before my daughter was born. Right before the movie rights to my first book sold. Up until then, I'd lived all over the country, working as a journalist and for some non-profits (including public television, another future connection to Lee, I would only discover later.)  So when I walked through the doors the first time, it was at a real moment of transition for me. I was finally settling down, buying a house, putting down roots in my life and my writing. I was making a home for myself in a way I hadn't before. Island Books is a real part of that story.
There was something about it that felt like home to me the first time I visited. The staff is incredible. It's the "Cheers" of bookstores. Everyone knows your name. Everyone is glad to see you. When you browse the shelves of an independent bookstore, you're discovering something about the people who run that store and the community that supports it. It's a curated experience. An actual human chose to order each and every book. Not an algorithm. Not AI. When every tenth book is a book you read and loved, you know the other nine are going to be good. Sometimes they know what I want to read better than I do.
And of course, they've been incredibly supportive of me and my books. I've had events there. I bring my family there. They keep a poster of one of my books on the wall, and when I've had a tough writing day, stopping in to pick something up and seeing it on the wall, it feels like them saying, "you can do it." Writing is hard, and their support has meant more than I think they know. I am just so grateful.
Tumblr media
Miriam: It's funny how a bookstore becomes a character in the stories of our lives. I always look at that poster of your book cover when I go in, and it makes me think of you and the people behind the books. Lee, how about you?
Lee: Miriam and I have known each other for decades, even before our days both working in the New York publishing industry. We’ve supported one another as we both moved to the writing side of the field, too. The moment after Miriam read the draft of what was to become my first novel The Last Confessions of Sylvia P., she said, “I know where you need to stop on your Seattle book tour.”
This is how I came to meet Island Books—never has there been a more eponymous entity! An island of books, among an island of sellers and customers who not only love books, but adore them, respect them, and nurture them.
I came to town on book tour with my eleven-year-old son in March of 2022. Laurie had set up an incredible reading for me at Island Books. My friend Joshua Mohr was to provide the “in conversation” piece of the evening. The set-up was cozy. The room, bright. The air smelled of books and brownies. As we waited for people to arrive for the reading, my son spent time among the YA books; I got lost in the curated adult novels. The nature of the store is such that, walking through the shelves feels a bit like you’re walking through a friend's bookshelves.
Island Books is small, provincial, comfortable, and deeply familiar place, even to a stranger who shows up for the first time, like I did.
I’d learn that one of the reasons if felt so familiar was because one of the customers that evening was author Ashley Ream. Ashley and I lived but a hallway away from each other as freshmen at the University of Missouri two decades earlier! We'd both wanted to be novelists; and after college we’d both left the mid-west for the west coast to learn the craft. Years and miles separated us, even as we’d kept tabs on one another. And yes, her appearance that evening was an incredible surprise that could only have happened at this store, which held such a special place in Ashley’s heart.
Island Books, it turns out, is also a nexus for past and present.
Tumblr media
Miriam: I think I talked to Ashley before you did that night, Lee. She told me about your connection and pointed out that her book was featured on an impressive poster above the typewriters. I could see how much it meant to her to see her book there and to find Island Books supporting her old friend. It was fantastic to see how the store brought you two together. I can't even count how many times I've seen magical connections happen through that bookstore nexus portal, but that night seemed particularly special and still stands out in my mind.
Ashley: Bookstores really are meeting points for readers and for authors. It's such a solitary job. Writing a novel usually means sitting alone in a room for a couple of years. Your colleagues are imaginary characters. Even as a working writer, I don't talk to my agent or my editor every day—or even every month. If you don't seek out community, it's easy to go a little squirrely. (As a mental health professional, I'm sure Lee can confirm that "squirrely" is the official, medical diagnosis.) Bookstores are natural watering holes, and book events are parties. It's an open invitation, and you never know who will show up. Sometimes it's an old friend from college you haven't seen in twenty years. Then that old friend introduces you to their old friend. (Lee: "Ashley, do you know Miriam?") And then you have a new friend.
Years ago, I went on a whim to a book event for Michelle Wildgen (Wine People), and in the audience, I saw a woman I was 99% sure was Susanna Daniel, whose novel Stiltsville was one of my favorites. I did the "excuse me, are you..." thing. She was, and not only did we become friends, I got to know Michelle, too, who was Susanna's friend. And so the chain goes. There are so many stories like that.
The truth is that touring a new book will bring out every insecurity you've ever had. ("Please like me. Please.") And a friendly face in the audience, whether it's a new friend or an old one, a fellow author, a reader or a supportive bookseller, is everything. There was no way I wasn't going to show up for Lee. (It was actually the first event after COVID that I went to.) And now I'm finishing up a draft of a new book. It's set in a family-owned grocery in the San Juans, tentatively titled The Peculiar Gift of July, and when touring time comes, I will definitely be looking into the audience for familiar smiles. I hope some of them are yours.
Lee: The bookstore really is the wateringhole, and it’s also the battleground where all elements of the book-writing process come together. You’ve got the book, the readers, points of sale, and an opportunity for each party to connect to the work, and to each other, all in a heightened environment of an author’s fear (aka: What if no one shows up to see me? What if the book doesn’t catch? What if someone in the audience points out a major plot hole I missed?) We expect all of these elements.
But it’s the unexpected elements that make bookstores genuinely special, like running into an old friend, tantamount to coming across an obscure book you never expected to find on a shelf. In fact, there might be a novel idea here, Ashely! Two friends who only connect at each other’s bookstore events every few years. Want to write it together?
Miriam: Can I be in on this collab novel?
Lee: YES! You’re in!
Miriam: Excellent. Now that that's settled, let's talk about next week, Island Books community. I'll have the one and only Laurie Frankel ready to share her thoughts with us for 50 Years of Island Books (with a bit about her writing process and new novel as well). Check in with us again soon!

Worldbuilding and fanfic writing
As I work on my drafts for my future Lies of P fics, something I would like to achieve in my writing is to get a good handle on the social and cultural context in which the game is set in the city of Krat: Belle époque (1871-1914), not only to make the setting feel more real, but also to show how the context affects, influences and conditions the behaviour of the characters in their world. Since it is a fictional alternate world that obviously collects elements of that time and different places in old Europe (in addition to the fantasy elements and steampunk aesthetics), I always had a little doubt about how much the environment culturally and socially influences the condition of the people. Obviously, the game developers pay a lot of attention to the details and setting of the city in terms of fashion, architecture, technology, music, etc. But I still have more doubts, especially about how the city was socially and culturally before and after the disasters we already know happened.
1.-Is there a single idiom or slang in the language? 2.-Were social labels very strict or were creative liberties taken to make them less rigid in Krat? 3.-How pronounced was the social structure and inequalities? 4.-Are there political tensions? 5.-Is there strong censorship and cultural control? 6.-Were there social movements and struggles, especially with the industrialisation of puppetry? 7.-Are there myths and legends that use elements of European folklore? 8.-How strong or cautious were the scientific and medical ethics? (cough, cough, Geppetto, Simon) 9.-Will there be a future equivalent to the First World War? 10.-Will there be conflicts between the traditional and the future modernity? 11.-How will modernisation progress in Krat when the frenzy is over? (I have the basic idea that the game obviously starts in 1871, but when the city slowly resurfaces, it will progress until the early 1900s).
I don't know, it's these issues that always come up when I'm trying to write and, well, they tend to give me a bit of a headache about how to incorporate them. It would be interesting to know more about them, especially how they affect Pinocchio, given that he is someone who has not been raised or conditioned by these social norms, and how his social maladjustment would cause him to step out of the norm. Not to mention the issue of not knowing whether P ends up being a real human or some weird human/puppet mish-mash. I think it would only add to Pinocchio's existential crises, but now add a social inadequacy and a VERY likely rejection of his person and what he represents (poor guy can't catch a break).
It would be interesting to read this topic in more fanfics (especially in lop x reader scenarios) (and how the reader or an OC helps P with these topics, perhaps creating debates and social criticism) I know many like to write more about action or expand the lore of the game, but I've always been someone who has had a fondness for everyday stories and how they develop and condition individuals. Especially with the character of Pinocchio, the way he builds his individuality and humanity, and the existentialism of his condition, already influenced by his environment.
˚₊‧ Just P Learning about the complexity and beauty of the turbulent human condition and its social implications. ‧₊˚

Upcoming fics
Voting is over! Thank you all for participating and voting! So there we have our winner: Human Error (funny because I didn't think I would win this one)
So the order of work and publication will be like this:
1.-Human Error.
2.-The King and his Jester.
3.-I kissed a girl and I liked it.
(these three will be the highest priority of work)
Those below will have a slower publication rate:
4.-Longing for you.
5.-Green with envy.
6.-Duo of Chaos.
7.-Bad influence.
8.-Butterfly and dragonfly.
9.-Friends of Gossip.
Although it is slow cooking to create and do this creative process in writing my fics for the first time, I will leave you a little glimpse of what (could) be each fic (this is subject to change so don't get too excited, the final product may be the same or very different from this draft):
════════════════【✉˚₊‧ཐི✧ཋྀ‧₊˚✉】═══════════════════
Butterfly and Dragonfly
-"As their paths intertwine, their love blossoms into a joint flight, where the butterfly teaches the dragonfly the beauty of the ephemeral, while the dragonfly promises to care for her, even when her wings begin to give way".
Green with Envy
-"The green of envy is intertwined with the pain of being inhuman, as they fight to earn the love they long for, despite being mere mirrors of who they wish to be".
I kissed a girl and I liked it.
-"A kiss, timid and fearful, emerges like a whisper in Krat's gloom. In its sweet secret, hope and fear dance together, weaving a pray that burns in the shadows".
Duo of chaos
-"Together, they unleash a whirlwind of mischief and disorder, merging their worlds in an unpredictable dance of chaos and complicity. Creating his own reality, one laugh and a detour at a time".
Human error
-"As their fingers intertwined, the friction between metal and human skin was palpable, a contrast between unchanging solidity and living warmth".
Friends of gossip
-"The invitation to chat was irresistible, the gossip became a shared fun, and between jokes and confidences, they discovered a new type of friendship".
Longing for you
-"It was woven into a tapestry of wishes and hopes. A longing that reminds them of their place in a world that denies them the humanity they seek. While their feelings remained trapped in the cold distance of their metallic bodies".
Bad Influence
-"A poison in the perfection that Gepetto had sought to build. He felt his dream crumbling, every piece of his plan disintegrating under the weight of an influence he considered contaminating".
The King and his Jester
-"Through their games, between empty laughter and suppressed tears, they wove a bond that only the damned could understand, creating a performance that blurred the line between reality and theater. It was a refuge in the midst of madness, but both knew that their work had a predestined end".
════════════════【✉˚₊‧ཐི✧ཋྀ‧₊˚✉】═══════════════════
(that's what I have in draft). With this little glimpse, do you feel more interested? Which one interested you the most? Well, you'll find out very soon! :D So stay tuned!
