If anyone is thinking of visiting the historic city of Oxford, UK, I highly recommend this map for planning your explorations. Oxford is a magical place and feels like Harry Potter’s world in real life with all the quirky academic characters and romantic Gothic-meets-Baroque architecture. The museums are free and open to the public from 10 am to 5 pm daily, and showcase artefacts from across history. If you want to visit the colleges, you’ll need to check opening hours for the public or (better yet!) book a private tour with an academic.

Hello from Blighty thoughts about Saltburn
As a continuation from my reply to @armands-eyefuckery because BRAIN
Aight gang let's have a lil sit down because there is a big ol angle to the film that I think is getting missed by a lot of folks who aren't from the UK because it's a very uh...
British Thing.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT OLIVER IS FROM THE NORTH.
Cut because Length.
Now look. I am not going to go into Thatcher and Her Crimes, but it's worth a google. I do bring it up in You're Almost Home because...
Lots of people are saying Oliver is upper middle class, and honestly? That doesn't track for me. At all. Yes, his parents have a detached house in a nice suburb and they went on holidays, but there's a lot of Very British Context to them that I really want to point out. Also remember, it's 2006/2007. That is also important.
First of all- Oliver's parents probably never went to University.
Really listen to them. How gullible they are- they believe that Oliver can study at Oxford, and be on the rowing team, and be in plays, and be top scholar. He's always been so clever. If Oliver was anything near upper middle class, his parents would be educated professionals. Oliver probably has dockworkers not even three generations back- his dad has management vibes, but he probably worked his way up in the 70s when all you needed was a good attitude and not to be an obvious murderer.
Secondly- let's talk about the house.
As someone from Down South who has also lived Up North, Oliver's Parent's house would not have been as expensive as people think. Let's assume they bought it in the 1980s- we ALL know that house prices are through the roof NOW, but even today there is a huge gap between house prices in the south and the north. 200k down South might get you a one bedroom flat, if you're lucky. 200k in Prescot can get you a 4-bed, semi-detached HOUSE. Check rightmove.
It is also important that the house is relatively new-looking, because over here Upper Middle Class people aren't really into new build houses- if Oliver was upper middle class, he'd be living in something Victorian or Edwardian. Probably somewhere with a good link to London, especially in 2007. It also means that Oliver's parents may not have even bought it outright- my parents got on the housing ladder via a shared ownership scheme. Oliver's parents aren't rich.
Now, the holidays. Mykonos. Another fun Brit thing is the package holiday. Here's a pretty interesting article about them;
Two adults and three kids could absolutely have gone to Mykonos every year in the late 80s/90s for far less than you'd expect, especially if they paid in installments each month.
I also mentioned about Ollie being from Merseyside specifically, but again. CONTEXT. Although Oliver isn't Liverpudlian (it's important, he's from NEAR Liverpool but not Liverpool itself) the North of England as a whole has routinely been fucked over by those in power. The government AND the royals and the very wealthy. It's still ongoing today- again, another fun source.
Remember when Mr Eats-Crunchies-Sideways called him a Bootlicker? That's fucking IMPORTANT. To many folks he IS a bootlicker. He is highly unlikely to have been raised to grovel at the feet of those with hereditary titles and wealth, and honestly he doesn't. I've written before about how Oliver Denies Felix Things and how that dynamic is important. Oliver likely hasn't been raised with any real deference to The Rich (except Princess Diana).
It also effects Oliver's response to Felix, because goddamn it THATCHER again- it is HIGHLY likely that Oliver has lived through a lot of homophobia. Internalised a lot of it. Felix's parents do not give a shit, but that was not the norm. Again, tried to hit on it in YAH, because times have changed since the 90s/2000s and people change with them, but no fuckin wonder Oliver never responded to Felix chirpsing him like a maniac. He's fucking REPRESSED when he's in Oxford, pals. It also makes sense with that weird Tumblr Dom shit he pulls; he's still fuckin weird about it, he's just being In Charge so he doesn't need to be vulnerable in any way. He is only vulnerable for Felix, and even then he can't SHOW felix that, that would be gay.

Quick Question, would you visit Milwaukee and the places that Jeff was, or do you find it exploitative?
I'm in two minds about murder tourism, and I'd love to talk to about it
This is how I see it, I think there's a difference between visiting locations that have been specifically set up as 'tourist' attractions, like the Vilisca Murder House or Lizzy Borden House where their sole purpose is to allow people to be scared. However with Jeff, these are private properties and they're owned by other people. That's where the ethics come in. Even the Oxford apartments kind of rub me the wrong way, from a class consciousness standpoint. Marginalized people don't owe us anything, and I think that it's lost on people that the poorest and most oppressed citizens lost their homes because of this crime. That doesn't even go into the crime itself. I guess it's complicated, but I've been thinking about a lot recently.

All My Precious Madness by Mark Bowles
This keenly observed debut brilliantly captures the internal monologue of a misanthrope, in a portrait of intellectual melancholia
Henry, the middle-aged narrator of Mark Bowles’s debut novel, is ensconced in a Soho cafe, trying to write a memoir about his late father. To his considerable irritation, a digital entrepreneur at a nearby table is prattling loudly into his phone about his startup and his recent travels in the far east, while deploying inordinate amounts of business speak. (When he begins one sentence with “As per yourself,” we can place the type exactly.) Distracted from his task, Henry’s mind wanders, brooding on, among other things, mass tourism in the Instagram age (“The flattening of the world to wallpaper for the grinning head”), the marketisation of education and the perniciousness of corporate jargon. We remain inside his head for most of the next 200-odd pages, intermittently checking back in with the voluble tech bro, who embodies everything Henry hates about the 21st century; his animus builds to almost psychotic proportions as the novel progresses.
The sociological ruminations soon give way to a personal narrative. We learn that Henry hails from Bradford, attended Oxford University and, after a decade in a soul-crushing telesales job, completed a philosophy doctorate to become an academic. A self-styled autodidact, he once resolved to learn about the great composers by listening to them in alphabetical order. (“I did not get very far … today I listen almost exclusively to Bach, Bartók and Beethoven”.) Because of his working-class background, he suffered from impostor syndrome; his assimilation into academia was “a trajectory of imitation and rebuff, of overzealous imitation compensating for prior exclusion”. There is indeed a hint of affectation in the narrator’s slightly mannered prose style: he is fond of “whilst” and “wherein”, and prone to the occasional throwback sentence structure (“I … opened ever so gently the window”). Fully conscious of this, he quips: “I wore my learning, such as it was, like a trench coat on a summer’s day.”
Henry’s humour, oscillating between candid self-deprecation and sardonic misanthropy, keeps the reader on side. At various points, his meandering consciousness revels in the nuances of language: he muses on posh people’s fondness for the word “copious”, the paradoxical ugliness of “pulchritude” and the inherently sad timbre of the Brummie accent, “wherein one hears only the murmur of diurnal disappointment, and which, defined by bathos and anticlimax, is quintessentially English”. We eventually circle back to Henry’s childhood, via a heart-rending anecdote about a school bully who once forced a fellow pupil to eat faeces. Henry’s father had been an aloof and domineering figure, but in his latter years, “pockets of eccentricity and kindness were opened”, and a tentative camaraderie developed between them: “the two of us, sat side by side, each opened the door of our solitude to the other”.
All My Precious Madness is an astutely observed portrait of intellectual melancholia. We tend to associate nostalgia with reactionary politics, but it can, of course, take other forms too: with his blend of sweary, disaffected rage and leftwing idealism, the narrator’s sensibility recalls the US comic Bill Hicks. Henry is down on England and Englishness, which he identifies with parochial conservatism, and romanticises Paris and Rome. For him, the humble espresso symbolises a world of possibility. “There is,” he declares, “every reason to live in Old Europe at the point of its demise and disappearance, rather than sniffing after the Zeitgeist, which is made of cables and clouds, brands and fragile exoskeletons amalgamated from images.”
It’s hard to disentangle these somewhat sweeping sentiments from the narrator’s class-based ennui. Henry’s fetishistic passion for “Old Europe” originates in his yearning to transcend the cultural horizons of his upbringing in the monochrome landscape of 1980s England. Seen in this light, his chuntering fixation on the tech bro – and the vulgar, Thatcherite aspiration he represents – feels like a projection. Perhaps the charmless bore who blathers on about his frolics in the global south isn’t really all that different from the intellectual bon vivant, who is no less of a tourist just because he knows his Sartre from his Lacan. They may inhabit very different moral and aesthetic realms, but they have in common a restless drive: to reinvent themselves, to evolve and escape – by whatever means necessary.

Track Suit

Character Thomas Brodie Sangster

Concept Snug Track racing Suit
I finally finished the dishes so I left the kitchen heading to the living room sitting myself in my usual side of the sofa with my pillows grabbing my tea mug from the side having a sip of the still warm tea. I smiled as I set my tea down leaning over giving his cheek a kiss
"Hi TomTom" I smiled
"Hey buttercup" he smiled giving me a kiss too before returning his focus to the TV and the motorbike racing on it
"I miss anyone crash?"
"No, but you did miss a guy in the stands who dropped his beer down a girls shirt"
"Awww damn it."
"Yeah you missed out" he says having his coffee
"Would you ever go racing?"
"I mean pretty much every time I go out with Jack we race to some extent. Last time I beat him on a race from one end of Oxford Street to the other at peak tourism season on a hot sunny day."
"Ooohh what'd win?"
"Bragging rights." He shrugs "and a slushie"
"What colour?"
"Don't you mean flavour?"
"I mean colour Thomas"
"Red and blue"
"Classic" I nodded "but I mean like track racing?"
"Fuck no. I don't wanna die." He says "look at that look how far they have to lean knee pads to the pavement at god knows what miles an hour. No thank you"
"That's fair. But don't you go knees to the pavement at god knows what speeds on roads where you know there are other drivers and police men? Isn't a track environment safer?"
"No it blurs the lines with track racing you end up in shit. Plus I prefer watching it. Plus track racing is a fucking expensive hobby"
"... How's the flying lessons thomas?" I asked sipping tea
"Okay that's an investment. Four more months I get a pilots license. I'd like to see what you'll do in an potential apocalypse when you need someone to fly a plane safely and legally. Yeah. Pretty fucked then aren't you ground girl"
"I'd fly. Just not legally. Or safely. And not sure how to land but what goes up must come down so I'll land one way or another" I laughed "but that's a pretty expensive hobby"
"Not like track racing. I'd need a new bike. Need parts for the bike to modify it. I'd need track paperwork. The bike would need paperwork. I'd need new gear. Paying for the track. Then a trailer because you can't have a road legal track bike. Then a car to pull the trailer. Not to mention hotel stays and expenses to go to track meets" he explained "see expensive"
"You thought about buying us a new house so you could have a plane at home."
".... No comment"
I sat and watched for a while eager for a crash but nothing and as I watched I felt eager to ask a question "Tommy?"
For a moment he glanced at me suspiciously "I know that tone. What do you want?"
"You have one of those motorbike outfits right?"
"I have gear. And so do you"
"Noo I mean the like suit"
"You mean the track suits like them?"
"Yeah"
"I do yes. Why?"
"Could you wear it?" I suggested he gave me another look for a moment confused but then sly
"For what?"
"For whatever" I shrug
"Maybe later. If your good" he says kissing my head and returning his focus to the TV as did I for a while until I had another idea
"Tommy?"
"Ummm?" He mumbled about to sip more coffee
"Can I wear it?" I asked
Immediately he choked on his coffee "what?"
"Can I wear it?"
"My track suit?"
"Yes"
"... I don't think you'll fit in it buttercup"
"Why not?"
"It's snug on me"
"You calling me fat?"
"No! But you know. You have additions. In areas. I do not." He says glancing at my body
"Can I try? Pretty pretty please Tommy?' I point
"Fine. Cupboard under the stairs with the rest of the gear"
"Yay!" I smiled jumping up grabbing it from the rail in the cupboard and heading to the laundry room to get it on. Honestly he was right it was pretty damn snug, o mean this is basically a leather jumpsuit with some protective pads on areas, once it warmed up it was a little easier even if you could tell I was too big for it, I had to strip down to only my bra and panties to even get it on having to jump and swear a little to get into it. Once I actually got it on I tried to zip up the front zipper but I got to my waist and it would continue "ohh come on" I complained breathing in sucking my stomach in as much as possible getting it up to under my breaths no matter how much I squished the zip just would not go getting stuck on my bras bones so I removed the bra and management with some squeezing to zip it up just over my boobs I did have a fair bit of cleavage but anymore I was actually worried about busting the zip.
"Tommy" I giggled opening the door
"I'm not looking" he sighed sipping his coffee so I went and stood by the TV trying to look as cute as I could he opened his eyes and saw me immediately doing a spot take of his coffee in shock his eyes wide looking over every inch of me "FUCK!"
"Hi"
"Hi… I am genuinely surprised you got that on"
"Yeah it's kinda tight and this as as high as the zip goes"
"Kinda tight? Buttercup you seem exposed to me and I've seen you naked"
"How does it look?"
"How does it look? It looks like you just walked out of my nineteen year old fantasy"
"Really? Maybe I should get one for myself" I smiled doing a small spin making sure he saw me from behind
"Holy God! Did you paint that over your ass? Damn!"
"You really like it that much?" I giggled
"Y/n I am insanely hard just from the sight of you I think it's pretty damn clear I like it" he says just as the zip gave up and slid down to under my breasts leaving how I'd scooped them in the only thing now concealing them leaving my bare skin exposed
“Oops”
“Do you have to be so god damn sexy”
“I mean I’m not trying that hard”
“I know! God damn sexy girlfreind. I will say its not very safe. I mean you came off the bike dressed like that I don’t think its really gonna protect you that much. Mostly because I think the slightest bit of pressure anywhere the whole things gonna bust open like an overstressed dam”
“But sexy”
“Sexy does make a compelling argument” He nods
“I think I look great”
"I have a really strange request" he says unable to remove his eyes from me
"Yes Thomas?"
"... Can you let me film you on my phone like that? Possibly with a helmet under your arm? And even more possibly with you saying 'you look like you need a good ride'?" He asks
"...why?" I giggled
"To look at. When I'm working away."
"So to masturbate to?"
"Yes"
"...fine, if you buy me my own little suit?"
"Done!" He agreed

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) recently revealed that France experienced unprecedented growth in its Travel & Tourism sector last year. The sector’s contribution to GDP surged by nearly 6% year-on-year, reaching a record-breaking €246 billion. This remarkable growth highlights the sector’s crucial role in France’s economy and its potential for future expansion. France's Tourism Industry Soars Unveiling the Numbers: A Year of Growth GDP Contribution and Economic Impact According to WTTC’s latest research conducted in collaboration with Oxford Economics, the Travel & Tourism sector in France soared 4.3% above its previous peak in 2023. This growth brought the sector's contribution to 8.8% of France’s total economic output. The research underscores the significant impact of Travel & Tourism on the national economy, reinforcing its status as a cornerstone of economic growth. Job Creation and Employment The sector also witnessed substantial job creation, adding over 172,000 new jobs and elevating the total to nearly 2.9 million nationwide. This figure is 4.7% higher than the levels recorded in 2019, highlighting the sector’s role as a major employment driver, representing one in every 11 jobs across the country. The continuous growth of employment opportunities in Travel & Tourism underscores its importance in sustaining the French workforce. NATCHEZ, Miss. – Dr. Roscoe Barnes III, cultural heritage tourism manager for Visit Natchez, was recently named vice president of the Mississippi Historical Society. He was elected Thursday, Feb. 22, during the society’s annual meeting in Oxford.
Barnes will serve with the new president, Dr. Rebecca Tuuri, associate professor of history at University of Southern Mississippi. She fills the position previously held by Will Bowlin, instructor at Northeast Mississippi Community College, who completed his term in office.
“Roscoe Barnes III has been active in the work of the Mississippi Historical Society and cares deeply about the history of our state,” said Brother Rogers, secretary-treasurer of the organization. “We look forward to benefiting from his leadership.”
Barnes said he has enjoyed serving with the society and that the new appointment is an honor.
“I’m fortunate to be able to work with so many scholars, historians, and students of Mississippi History,” he said. “Thanks to the Mississippi Historical Society, I’m connecting with people throughout the state who love Mississippi. These are people who are helping to preserve our history while using multiple channels and resources to share this history with the public.”
Barnes joined the society’s board of directors in 2022. In 2023, he was named chairman of the Awards Committee.
New board members announced during the society’s 2024 meeting include Tony Bounds, Tougaloo College; Kasey Daugherty, The Max; Heather Denné, Jackson State University; Kristi DiClemente, Mississippi University for Women; Linda Fondren, Catfish Row Museum; and Malika Polk-Lee, BB King Museum.
