alright enough pussyfooting around. lets get to it

starting with the severe fuck shit sidereals pull:

excellency changes target numbers, they use prayer strips in their charms but they have them around unless they specifically dont, they deal with enemies of fate, they have

MAIDEN CHARMS which are basically bridge keyword done right. if you have say 3 charms of any Battles ability you will be able to purchase Mars charms like BATTLEFIELD GENIUS STYLE and ASCENDING BATTLES HOROSCOPE

sidereal charms are specific, they interact with the celestial bureaucracy but cant be stopped just by bureaucracying, theyre esoteric and funky with it. they include versatile charms in their combat abilities that can work with martial arts!

holy shit!!!

JOURNEYS

the ascending and descending horoscopes all have this fucking fantastic structure where you can grant a blessing or curse, but you have to have a constellation-themed interaction first. if you see someone feed a street animal you can invoke Stray Dog Gratitude to bless their travels, if you see them abandon something important you can invoke Forsaken Castaway Curse to curse the same

good worker spirit starts with "when the sidereal lies about where she's been" which is fucking primo, this is the translation of one of the old resplendencies that made it hard to catch you slacking off

mysterious traveler wisdom makes you both helpful to people youre traveling with and impenetrable when they try to figure out where the fuck you came from

predestined escort coincidence, which we are all fucking jazzed to see out of the drive charms from shards, lets you throw open the car door horse bridle and give someone a wordless look to tell them you're taking them where they need to go

RESISTANCE: THE MAST

oxbody only gives -0 hls, because it is vital that sidereals look completely unaffected and fine

the mast sways turns you into a fucking pinball puppet who takes knockback instead of allies

strength of the mast makes you stronger, especially if youre the strongest one in teh room

unbroken weave deflection clashes attacks with a disarm gambit because weapons just fucking bounce off?? holy shit

oh my god mast upholds all lets you provide support ie "looming behind someone" and they can use your sta+res successes instead of their own. that is unbelievably fucking funny. also people cant notice you doing this.

RIDE: THE MESSENGER

these charms are horny. there's nothing we can really do about it. setting that aside:

IRON HEART IRON HORSE isnt horny though. it just makes your mount fearless. we love to see it. it will become horny later.

breaking the wild mortal is horny though. sorry vance i'm powerless to deny it. you put a bridle on a guy to make them like you. at least they forget about it

disaster-accelerating expedience lets you learn about a disaster in the future and go, hmm. id like that now please. and just make terrible shit happen faster (but it is weakened)

and then dire squall forewarning lets you just introduce a disaster that will befall your ship. have fun!

i haven't been talking much about charms from past editions but i cant not mention life gets worse approach. god i love life gets worse approach. great name great flavor you land a weapon in someone and it pulls further troubles and knives to them

HWKQJlGGJDF shining flock of adversities lets you turn that into a whirlwind of debris that attacking attacking attacking attacking. or i should say whirlwind of debris and small animals because you can fucking throw your familiar in there too

ooh, and frayed skein entanglement lets you grapple someone from afar by catching the thread of their fate

and now we come to the enlightenment charms, which absolutely made me go MOM holy fuck. the enlightenment charms let you use, say, thrown charms with an SMA, and learn SMA by mastering thrown instead of other martial arts

three-body trilemma is a BANGER name and a banger charm. when you throw a weapon it becomes a juggling act because you swap places with your target and just catch your weapon harmlessly.

flown beyond the world sends you to fucking final destination no items. jesus christ.

pain: What's the worst pain your OC has ever felt? Do they have a high pain tolerance?

GIRLS WHO ARE DEFINED BY PAIN lol. There are a lot of contenders for her. I do think “having half your skin melted off by industrial effluent” is probably up there, acutely. Admittedly she exalted not long after that and probably didn’t feel much of it afterwards. (Lunar oxbodies aka the things that give you more health are, notably, the strongest among the Exalted, even in comparison to Solars)

As someone who has been known to get beat up recreationally I think there are definitely worse feelings in her book. But also since she doesn’t have the ‘pain tolerance’ merit i think she’s still at least a little bit of a princess about it. Maybe that’s all… part of the appeal.

midnight: What keeps your OC up at night? Do they have nightmares? Fears? Anxieties? What do they do in the small hours of the morning when they should be sleeping?

Her sleep schedule is weirdly normal, very early-to-bed-early-to-rise. Unfortunately necromancy is sort of a preferably nocturnal activity and being hooked up to the Neverborn can make you kind of sleep-avoidant (thats when they get in, to your brain). So I think what happens most often is she gets some kind of perturbing vision around 3 am and then stays awake & skulks off to her laboratory to study, or get some stuff done, and takes her mind off of it for the most part.

She has led sort of a stupid life and has many regrets for a normal person. Small potatoes for the Exalted. Once you’re a couple war crimes in now THATS how you wind up going days without a wink. I’m sure she’ll get there once she gets her Necrotech war machines up and running.

skin: How comfortable is your OC in their skin? Do they grapple with anything that lives inside them—a beast, a curse, a failure, a monster? How do they face the smallest, weakest, most horrible version of themself? Are they able to acknowledge it at all?

Fascinating question, lots of angles. As far as her beastman form goes she quite likes that, it’s a gift from Luna so you're not allowed to not like it. It is large, slimy, bizarre and kind of gross which are all points in its favor. It also makes a great… Mask, at least among her fellows in the Deliberative, almost like an alternate persona. There’s some baggage associated with making her human face her public facing-side so she simply chooses to… Not do that.

Which is not to say she doesn’t -like- her human form. She spends most of her time in it and likes it quite a lot; it also reflects her “ideal self” because when you go Lunar your body pretty much changes to match your idealized self-image. It’s just weird to have people look at you and think “wow, humanity perfected right here” when you spent most of your life being the guy who sucks. Maybe she’ll get used to it one day.

There’s not really any monsters in there (I guess you could call her tie to the neverborn that, but she’s more just ‘tuned in’ rather than embodying them or whatever) + shes met the smallest weakest most horrible version of herself. That guy’s not so bad

Ted is one of my first and most beloved Exalted characters and if you follow me at all you’ve probably heard about his misadventures!

Ledaal Tedeo (22, he/him) is a disgraced ex-dynast who had nearly managed to graduate from the Heptagram with his sorcerous credentials, until he exalted working on his senior thesis and had to get the heck outta there. Now he is on the run from his old life accompanied by a ragtag circle of solar misfits (and one abyssal) and having… Well. A time.

He’s a sorcerer, lore supernal, genius mathematician and artificer, Single Point initiate, clinically anxious and perpetually annoyed (by everything). In his spare time he enjoys a.) working, b.) smoking weed and c.) chillin (in a high-brow, decadent sort of manner). You might draw him toiling away at a workbench, toking off a cool pipe with a dragon or something on it, casting a spell, swinging his sword around, hanging out with his Huraka familiar, etc etc.

Special appearance notes... He has funny wispy hair due to his strong db pedigree. He also has supernaturally clean and shiny teeth due to the blessings of a teeth god. Oh yeah and an evil tattoo which is a great excuse to wear fingerless gloves everywhere. 

IMPORTANT NOTE: do not “skinny-wash” this character!! I will be very cranky if you do that!! If you don’t think you can draw a fat character, well… learn, or pick a different guy, or something.

Oh wow, cool abyssal. Huh, wait. They’re not an abyssal? NO because they are a FIRE ASPECT! They’ve not familiar with your “realm” nonsense or whatever because they were raised in a DOOMSDAY CULT! The Last Candle Lit Against the Dark (20, they/them) hails from the high north, along the fringes of the bordermarches. After their disastrous exaltation they were cast out by their kin into the frozen wastes to die. Instead, they were taken in by a lonely goddess imprisoned in a sunken city. Here they were granted knowledge, the secrets of sorcery, and a few fun little mutations as a bonus.

Candle makes pretty egregious use of their control spell, Blood Lash, instead of more conventional weaponry (otherwise opting for knives, in a pinch). They also have way too many oxbodies + the pain tolerance merit, meaning they can get slapped around a fair bit without being significantly hampered by it. You could draw them doing some kind of cool action sequence, like using their blood lash, or doing a cool backflip, or something like that. Other options… reading forbidden texts, performing evil blood rituals at a spooky altar, trying on some gaudy goth fashions, or just hangin’ out.

Their aspect markings manifest as grey hair & perpetually soot-stained fingertips. Their control spell gives them nasty, veiny markings, which become more intense and spread farther over their face/arms if they are angry or overexerted. Their evil goddess connection has a few funny effects as well- They have a second set of eyes that can see in the dark (which are kept closed most of the time) and hooves that improve their jumping capabilities (kept under their Convenient Hoof Concealing Gucci Boots) as well as a few fun effects that are a secret to everybody (except me, and the GM of course)

(note: i was running out of time so i just yanked this text nearly directly from a post I’d put together for commissioners.... so if the wording seems a bit weird thats why)

Broken Star (21, he/him) is a day caste abyssal, investigation supernal, lifelong skullstone resident, former detective, and fresh-from-the-grave Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Waters crony.

His primary weapon is thrown daggers. Conveniently he has wings which are made of dagger “feathers” which he can remove and throw at people. In close combat he prefers paired shortswords, and fights in a sort of rough-and-tumble ‘brawler’ style.

The wings are a part of a sort of “second skeleton” artifact weapon which has been grafted onto him via necrosurgical bullshit. All the pointy metal-looking bits sticking out of him are also a part of this ‘second skeleton’. He gets some cool evocations from it! But also angst :[

He looks very mean but he is not actually!! Hes sort of a jokester and a goofball and hes pretty frequently got a big, sharp-toothed grin on his face. Which is not to say that he can't be a serious and incredibly dangerous assassin when circumstances call for it...

For things you could draw him doing… Prowling around, swordfighting, throwing his feather-daggers, doing cool flips, being a show-off are all excellent options to get you started, but if you have other cool ideas then by all means have some fun with it!
