Dust Watched: Owarimonogatari 2nd Season

Genres: Mystery, Comedy, Supernatural [R-17+] // 7 episodes, prequel (x), sequel (x)

Aaaand it’s over. Whew. What a ride.

Excellent as always, they really put everything into this last installment. (10/10)

Same as above, the OP and ED’s very nice, the OST worked as it should and the VA’s did an excellent job. (10/10)

The story is broken up into 3 arcs. The first one was great. The second one was a little boring and out of place imo but the third and final act was fun and tied up most plotlines. Not gonna explain further cause spoilers. (9/10)

✧  characters  ✧

Koyomi, Ougi and Shinobu’s characterization was amazing. The character development was one of the reasons I enjoyed this anime as much as I did despite the lolicon fanservice. I’d love to delve into it but that would mean spoilers which would somewhat ruin this season. (9/10)

✧  OVERALL ✧

This review is short as I’ve mostly talked about my opinions throughout the numerous installments of Monogatari and this is not so different. While if this were just another season in the series I’d give it a 9 but seeing as this is the finale one I’m giving it a 10. Why? Because the ending left me feeling warm and fuzzy. Giving a good and satisfactory ending to such a long story is a TASK *khm how i met your mother khm*. But they managed it and I’m just...fucking glad that they didn’t ruin the ending.

I remember you once made a post a few years ago about your top 3 animes every year since 2010, but it stopped at 2016. Care to finish the list for the decade?

I’ve always thought about doing that actually, so this was good timing. I’d also just like to highlight the following because I noticed that I had failed to make this clear in my original post - This list incorporates solely the TV series versions of anime, so any OVAs or movies will be excluded. That’s rather painful for me to do because a movie like A Silent Voice is not only my joint favourite anime movie of all time, but it would certainly be in my top 3 anime of the decade in general, but alas, this is the rule that I have chosen.

2010:

Special mentions to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Bakemonogatari, both of which finished airing in 2010, and would have both made the top 3, but they both started airing in 2009 :)
