Overcoming au where statton did send mina instead of Will, why wouldn't he when he knows how good mina will have it. he would be stupid to pass up all of the connections he could use hannibal for.
and since mina is a woman beta, hannibal stayed and is miserable bc mina is everything he didn't want in a bride. but then hannibal and mina visit statton and hannibal never knew mina had a breathtakingly beautiful, soft spoken omega of a twin brother.
at first, in denial about how curious and interested he is in him, hannibal still 'hates' Will because of his hate for omegas. but eventually he notices the way the whole family treats Will, he sees belts and whips where there shouldn't be belts and whips, he realizes how sickly and pale Will looks because hes never aloud to leave the house to go outside let alone to town. hannibal sees how Wills eyes are always glazed over and dead no matter if he's smiling or engaged in conversation. and despite his hate for omegas, hannibal needs to get Will out of there, with everything in him, hannibal will save Will from the terrible abuse his father is forcing on him.
and if he has to ignore the one-sided mate bond that formed thanks to hannibals' fiercely protective need to get the omega away from the horrifying life threatening condition he's in, then hannibal will, as long as he gets Will out

Overcoming
I, like 2834 others, am entirely in love with this fic.
A Victorian A/B/O romance in which Hannibal Lecter is the future Duke of Westvale who has been away at war for the past ten years. His Grandfather has made good on a contract made shortly after Hannibal's birth to procure him a wife. It was supposed to be easy. Naturally, with the Omega, Will, given in the place of his twin sister, it is anything but, because if there is one thing Hannibal Lecter despises, it's Omegas.

Please Read Overcoming
Okay usually there’s one or two fics in every big fandom that are So Good I feel the need to get people into the show in order to recommend them to read this fic.
I figured this time, given the material, I might recommend the fic to people regardless because it is That Good and it’s a perfect genre re-write of the show anyway, so reading this fic is honestly just as good.
Hello, today I am here to talk about Overcoming by @jadegreenworks the only good A/B/O fic on the internet.
Don’t read A/B/O? Feel like it’s kinda gross? Squicked by any of its more out there components? Never really seen the appeal? Can’t put your finger on why, but you’re pretty sure it’s transphobic somehow most of the time?
You will still like this fic.
Don’t like Hannibal the show? Have no desire to watch a show where a serial killer manipulates, torments, and occasionally outright tortures an FBI profiler into a twisted murderer courtship (that ends up being kind of sweet at the end)?
You’ll still probably enjoy this fic, honest to god.
I haven’t mentioned the best part you see.
It’s a 500k slow burn regency romance where they get together for real around like the 150k mark.
It takes all the Good Shit in Hannibal and all the stuff the people Really find appealing about A/B/O (and then improves on them immensely, more on that in a second), and honestly y’all, y’all???
I haven’t finished it yet. I’m at chapter 45 or something and I’m already here to declare this not just my favorite singular work in the Hannibal fandom, but like, one of my top five favorite fics of all time.
This is not said lightly. I have been reading fic basically daily since around 2007 and I have a couple thousand bookmarked fics across multiple platforms. I take my fic recommendations seriously dammit.
Okay. So. Back to the fic.
Specifically it takes all the important elements of Hannibal and all of the major characters and transposes them in interesting ways into this nondescript regency setting, that includes all the fun shit you’d get in an Austen rip-off. It’s beautiful.
The relationship develops slowly and in the context of layers of miscommunication and secrets and manipulations from outside forces and from within the relationship itself, just like in the show, but with less of the stabbing in the stomach as a way to tug on the love interest’s pigtails. It’s still very much about different masks that people wear and hide beneath and become lost in. All of the compelling elements of Hannibal and Will’s relationship are present.
And also at one point Will hits Hannibal in the face with a really big trout, and then Hannibal refuses to shut up about it ever again because he’s so amazed that Will hit him in the face with a fish. It’s Great.
Also, as I said, they start getting together for real around the 150k mark, and the entire epic is 500k, so there’s gratuitous amounts of fluff and smut for like...most of it.
Onto the most important part: the A/B/O stuff. In short, rather than having male omegas and female omegas, all omegas in this universe are born fully intersex with two sets of functioning reproductive organs, and they are culturally encouraged to adopt whatever pronouns, including nonbinary pronouns, they choose.
AND there are specific nonbinary and gendplayful cultural elements that specifically cater to Omegas, and even the way that the other two dynamics are presented is interesting. Because it’s a regency story, the social roles expected based on dynamic as well as gender are well explored.
Bless this fucking fic.
However! The source material is Hannibal. It’s still pretty dark, even if it’s not as dark as the show. There’s still murders and attempted murders and Intrigue and discussions of pretty dark child abuse and trauma and a lot of stuff that’s pretty fucked up, so heed the tags.
Also the first few chapters are really rough to read, and Hannibal as a character starts off very Hannibal, but if you get through the set-up, I swear the pay-off is worth it. The author says in the notes to just trust them until you get to chapter 7, and they’re right.

Taking a break from recording chapters 43 and 44, and cooking and listening to music and this comes on. @jadegreenworks Well? This doesn't get more perfect I think, especially after the last update. "I don't need you to sell me On reasons to want you. I don't need you to search For the proof that I should. You don't have to convince me. You don't have to be scared You're not enough. 'Cause what we've got going is good. I don't need more reminders Of all that's been broken. I don't need you to fix what I'd rather forget. Clear the slate and start over. Try to quiet the noises in your head. We can't compete with all that. So what if it's us? What if it's us, And only us? And what came before Won't count anymore or matter? Can we try that? What if it's you And what if it's me, And what if that's all that we need it to be? And the rest of the world falls away? What do you say? I never thought there'd be someone Like you who would want me. So I give you ten thousand reasons To not let me go. But if you really see me, If you like me for me and nothing else, Well, that's all that I've wanted for longer Than you could possibly know. So it can be us? It can be us, And only us. And what came before Won't count anymore or matter. We can try that. It's not so impossible. Nobody else but the two of us here. 'Cause you're saying it's possible. We can just watch The whole world disappear, 'Til you're the only one I still know how to see. It's just you and me. It'll be us. It'll be us And only us. And what came before Won't count anymore. We can try that. You and me, That's all that we need it to be. And the rest of the world falls away."

This may be a terrible idea, but...
After reading "Overcoming", by @jadegreenworks, I suddenly feel like writing a Victorian Hannigram thriller/romance set on a A/B/O universe.
I imagined young omega Will Graham, abandoning his life in the city only to marry Count Lecter, an older and refined Alpha whose property seems to be going through somewhat disturbing events. Upon arrival, Will begins to suspect his husband might be the terrifying Wendigo creature that haunts those grounds. But what could Will do, when he begins to fall for said monster, and even worse, understand him to the point of considering to join?
It feels a little cliche and perhaps it's just me being a thriller/horror fan who has recently read Dracula again, but I have this idea stuck in my mind now and it won't leave until I write it down, but I still don't know if I should write it or not.

Since you asked... :D
reniisbooks mentioned you in a post “Hey @jadegreenworks you know how you wrote in Overcoming that they…”
Hey @ jadegreenworks you know how you…
So, on the topic of no body being found, here’s a little excerpt in my “Ledford Children” document pertaining to the missing Dragon. I hope you like it! And thank you for asking, @reniisbooks!
Around the time Saule is around 6 years old, a squabble with their twin results in Saule falling into the river...
Saule surfaced, gasping for air, bobbing in the current like a fallen leaf. Their thin arms churned the water in a frantic bid to gain the shore but made no dent against the strength of the current. They couldn’t even draw air enough to shout for help, only snatch their breath before the water dragged them back beneath its chilly embrace.
The frightening, murky water was a chaos of bubbles and foam where their own pale limbs vanished in billows of silt. Terror seized the young child, frantic fear of vanishing forever into the river. The surface drew further from view, taking the bright sunlight and blue sky with it, and Saule kicked their slim legs, straining to escape.
Something plunged down with force, the sudden and violent movement of something large cutting through the water. The back of their shirt pulled taut and a hand found their waist, tugging them up from the river’s embrace.
Blessed air hit their lungs as they broke the surface, hoisted and held up against a broad shoulder. Saule coughed up a gout of water and sobbed, “Papa!”
But it wasn’t Papa who held them, who forged a path across the current to reach the rocky, weed-tangled shore. It was an Alpha male who smelled of wood smoke and leather, with a flavor of ash beneath like a cold fireplace. Stranger to them though he was, Saule was too grateful to fuss and clung tightly to him, their lungs aching in spasms of coughs.
A hand nearly the span of their slim shoulders patted their back, helping to force the errant river water up, and his voice was a rumble of sound in his chest as he said, “I’ve got you.”
“T-thank you,” Saule warbled, getting the coughing under control. The cold air nipped them and they shivered, grateful for his warmth.
He strode up the bank through the grass into the treeline, where the solid trunks helped block the wind. He lowered Saule carefully to their feet, hands firm beneath their arms until their legs grew steady enough to hold them. He kept hold of them with one hand and the other tipped Saule’s face up to his, his worried, weary, and lined blue eyes moving sharply over their pale face.
“Do you need to be sick?” he asked, the words again barely better than a deep, wheezing whisper, as if they were trapped beneath the bones of his chest.
Saule shook their head, eyes slipping from the strained lines of his face to his bared neck where a bite mark clearly showed. Not a mating bite, they knew enough to know that, but a savage wound made with deadly intent.
“No, thank you,” Saule said, their voice small and fragile in the aftermath of coming so close to death. “Thank you f-for saving me.”
“You shouldn’t go so close to the water,” he said, crouching before them, his blue eyes piercing in their intensity. “You can’t swim?”
“I can,” Saule protested, cheeks filling with pale pink that quickly faded. “The current.”
He searched them again, eyes softening, and whispered, “I see.”
“You’re supposed to say, ‘you’re welcome’,” Saule reminded him, crouching in imitation of him, grateful to hoard their own pitiful heat. “That’s what you say when someone thanks you.”
“It is,” he said, his raspy voice a touch louder. “You’re welcome... what’s your name?”
“Saule William Margaret Rosalind Ledford,” Saule piped up, the familiar syllables of their name comforting them.
A bare hint of a smile curved his stern slash of a mouth and he asked, “All those?”
“Yes!” Saule said, proud and smiling. “Mama wished to stop at Margaret, but Papa said we must include Rosalind, and Mama told him we should soon be all out of names for any others to come if we use them all up at once.”
“Did he?” the man asked, his smile fading but his eyes still lit with interest.
“Oh, yes, sir,” Saule said, eager to entertain and befriend. “Papa is always incortigible.”
“Incorrigible?” he corrected, and Saule gave an enthusiastic nod, delighted. “Your Papa, is he good to your Mama?”
“Yes, of course!” Saule said, surprise widening their blue eyes. Their mouth trembled with cold when they said, “He is always giving surprises to Mama. Good ones like gifts, not bad ones like toads or spiders like Nigel gives. Any time Mama even smiles at him, Papa is beside himself!”
Saule grasped his scarred hand and imitated the deep tones of an Alpha male as they said, “Thank you, my dear!” They followed the statement with a gallant kiss and giggled, telling him in their normal soft, high voice, “That’s what Papa always says to him when Mama smiles.”
“Does he?”
Saule nodded, emphatic, their little chin tipped up and their blue eyes slit nearly closed with the force of their smile. “Yes! He’s always kissing Mama’s hand, but he must remember to say, ‘may I?’, because one must never presume.”
The man frowned, which might’ve been fearsome to anyone else, but not to the child still holding his hand. He untangled his fingers from theirs and stroked their wet curls, separating the locks to let the breeze catch them.
“He truly loves your Mama very much, doesn’t he?”
“Oh, yes, he does,” Saule said, shivering as the breeze strengthened. “More than is properly sensible, as Mama says, but according to Papa it isn’t nearly as much as Mama deserves.”
The man turned thoughtful, his weathered blue eyes taking in the details of Saule’s face as he stroked their delicate head.
“You look like him, your Mama,” he said, fond longing in his voice.
“Yes,” Saule said, wrapping their thin arms around their bent knees, their mouth pale with cold. “You know Mama?”
“Once, a long time ago,” the man said, shrugging off his jacket to drape it around Saule’s thin body, warm and heavy with the scent of leather.
