James didn’t know what to expect. Well he hadn’t expected to be kidnapped in the middle of the jungle to be sacrificed to an eldritch style god but then again what was more surprising was the SWAT team sent to save him.

One of the guys there stood out to him particularly. He knew May was some hot shot Mayor of a major city with enough influence and power to keep watch if him; they were too similar and James in return had been following May closely. He knew who this guy was and he felt a bitter stab of pain. The man sauntering towards him was dressed awkwardly in a suit with a tablet (looked kind of stuck up and wimpy but May had always gone for the weirdly attractive ones) and eyes him up.

“Mr Feyson. I was sent to bring you back safely so if you’ll just step this wa-“

“May always knew how to pick em aye? Although I remember her being a bit better at dressing em...” The awkward Blond opened his mouth before giving out a huff of annoyance. “Mika isn’t it?” The guy narrowed his eyes and gave a piercing stage. Now he definitely understood why May chose this guy.

“Mr Fayson how do you know my na- you know what? May wants a report on everything. She was rather insistent you come back alive so we will have to do a full medical check up!” James rolled his eyes as he moved to stand next to Mika who was giving him the same evil eyes May used to...for a brief moment a flash of pain shoemwed as his heart aches to just hear her again. He never showed it but sone times he wished he’d settled down with her but he couldn’t give her what she wanted. They both knew that. Besides there was stuff out there he needed to stop being abused: case and point a group of nutters trying to summon an eldrotch god.

“Nothing that won’t heal...look I get it. You feel threatened because of our history. But we made our choices and she’s fiercely loyal so if you love her even half as much as I do then I know your a good match.” The look of surprise that was dawning over the blonde mans face, with the wide brown eyes and mouth hung open, would have been comical if he wasn’t feeling that stab of heart ache.

“We...we...are...what?” Mika’s voice squeaked in response as he finally began to regain compulsory. “N-no look I don’t...we aren’t...I...she hasn’t-“

Before the other could stutter through an explanation a tentacle burst through Blondies shoulder and immediately James burst into action. Despite his growing anxiety he murmured the words under his breath and the symbols tattooed into his arm glowed a bright gold that illuminated against his dark skin. The massive axe materialised in his hands and as if in slow motion he cut through the tentacle in one clean swoop. “SET IT ON FIRE” he bellowed at the others while he violently pulled out the slithering tentacle abd vrushed it under his boot.

At this point it was instinct and briefly he remembered May clutching his lifeless body with as much fear and anxiety that James didn’t know he could feel. Perhaps he never let himself feel that much and yet there was a small slither of doubt twisting into his gut.

He ripped off Blondies shirt and made kake shift bandages to ease the blood flow. It didn’t matter though if he didn’t get the wound clean within 24 hours the other could end up like he did. “Listen Mika I’m gonna get you home. Your gonna see May again all right!” He swooped the other into his arms and practically hijacked one if the helicopters. All the while Mika was mumbling incoherently.

“Dear” the kids green eyes looked up to her and she gave a cheeky grin “Mi mi has been hurt trying to save your dad.” The kids eyes fell “Sam I am going to bring them back home safely but you can’t come with me okay? So your going to be staying with Auntie Jane...” The green eyes frowned,

Mia was lived. Absolutely livid. Not only had James been keeping some fairly important information about his condition secret but also the idiots let Mika get hurt. She knew James wouldn’t make the same mistake twice when it came to getting infected by Eldritch abominations but it didn’t scare her any less; she lost James once and now she couldn’t let another be harmed because of her. Her eyes briefly turned to the 10 year old playing on her ds and her frown deepened. The kid looked far too much like James and part of her felt guilty for never telling him but it seemed cruel. They shouldn’t be able to have a child and she couldn’t have been sure the little one was safe: a miracle from a long forgotten deity in the form of a child was not something you just shout about to anyone.

“You’ll bring back Dad too? And Mi mi? Do you think...”

“He’ll love you Sam. Of course he will.”she pressed a soft kiss to the young ones head. Little was worse than leaving her child in someone else’s care but depending on how this all went...

The hospital felt steral and cold. James hates them. After the war he found he could heal against most things which worked well for him. Those infected with...this... tended to get experimented on. Hell he had to travel to all sort of isolated communities to get treatment in stopping the mutation and even then he couldn’t bare to look at himself naked anymore.

Luckily they got to Mika in time. It was a case of cleaning the wound. The chance of infection had been low since it was a low level monster. In truth James hadn’t moved from Mika since he’d been allowed into the room and had given every one a hard time about not being there for the whole time. His hand gently moved to swipe through the soft blond hair and bitterly he mused that maybe May would be down for a threesome. At least the thought was amusing.

“I see Mi mi made an impression on you” Janes didn’t show any sign of surprise. She always managed to sneak up on him even when he was supposed to have better hearing.

“You have a way of picking them. I understand why you chose him.” He looked removed his hand and sat up. “No sign of infection. He’s fine.”

“I know.” They both fell into silence and looked at eachother. “Why didn’t you tell me you had gotten so bad?”

“Why? So you worry? So you dedicate your life to a cure that doesn’t exist? I didn’t know if I could stop it before I became a mindless beast! I couldn’t do that to you; it was less cruel to live on with a cut Blond then let you see what I’ve become. I could never-“

A loud cough stopped his explanation and both whipped their heads to look at Mika. The blond looked weak but over all okay. “I tried to tell you we aren’t dating. Sam isn’t mine.” A silence fell across the room.

“May...tell me...you...Sam?”

“That’s what they meant by a miracle James.”

Person A and Person B are adventurers when they’re younger and fall in love. After a traumatic battle Person A decides to settle down out of fear and need to stay stationary and safe. It breaks Person B’s heart and they storm off after a big fight. Person A keeps tabs on Person B and then one day Person B is kidnapped and Person A (Whom now holds a high position in a government) hires some adventurers to go find their lost love (citing them only has friends) One of the adventurers (Person C) is attracted to Person A but person A has made no advances past friendship. Eventually, the group with Person C comes back with Person B and they are reunited.

Bonus Bonus: People of the city Person A governs are shocked to see them loosen up with Person B around
