OUTLANDER SPOILERS (episode 7x12, book 8, predictions)
Pushing the dubcon thing aside (wouldn’t be outlander without consent issues, would it?), I really liked the chemistry between William and Jane. It’s a shame that she is going to die. I feel like Diana really dropped the ball with that one because Jane would’ve been the perfect endgame for William, instead of just being a device to move William’s storyline forward and the object of his man pain.
Now (because apparently the only character allowed to be chronically alone is the gay character, so yk, William who, unlike John, is straight, NEEDS to be paired up with someone 🙄) we are left with Amaranthus and… well, Frances. At least in the books. I’m sure they won’t push William/Frances in the show because they know how fucking weird and gross it is. But Jane is definitely dying in the show, which they could’ve changed if they wanted to. As for Amaranthus, we got to wait for s8 and see, but I think they will keep her as some kind of antagonist who is just using William, maybe spying for Richardson. I mean, slay. Queen behavior. But they have 0 chemistry in the book and they will probably keep that in the show. Or maybe I could be wrong and they will change everything, who knows.
Anyway. Diana fumbled it so bad. Jane deserved better.

really watching claire and jamie have sex on john's dining table while john is literally trying to escape and avoid getting hanged as he suffers through injuries caused by jamie... like do you have to? right in front of his salad?

Remember… cool story, new characters, new sets, uh, a new director… called Caitríona Balfe. — Sam Heughan, The Land Con 6

Outlander now having had 4 cast members from The Dumping Ground in one season is really funny to me (not to mention all the other ones in previous seasons).

OUTLAND (1981): Grim and grimy Peter Hyams sci-fi Western, essentially a futuristic HIGH NOON restaged on a mining colony on Jupiter's moon Io, where new marshal O'Niel (Sean Connery) goes to war with the colony's genially corrupt general manager (Peter Boyle) over his traffic in a dangerous amphetamine that's driving miners crazy, even though almost everyone around them is either too jaded to care or being paid to look the other way.
The visual design is outstanding, but OUTLAND too often feels like a series of cool sets in search of a story: Connery is fine, and Frances Sternhagen is very good as the cynical doctor who becomes O'Niel's only ally, but Hyams' script adds nothing to the original template beyond the sci-fi trappings. As with the 1952 HIGH NOON, the story's political subtext can be read in a number of ways, but there's a distinct tang of Randian Objectivism here, which leaves a bad taste, as do the movie's occasional forays into unrealistic but icky gore. The bigger problem dramatically is that there's no reason to care what happens, and the execution is unpleasant and mean-spirited enough to make it a pretty dreary trip.
Perhaps the most interesting feature of this disappointing movie is that Jim Steranko did a very stylish comics adaptation in HEAVY METAL, although given the subject matter, maybe it should have been Steve Ditko.

CONTAINS LESBIANS: Nope, and its regard for women is not high. VERDICT: It wouldn't take much to imagine this as an ALIEN spinoff with no xenomorphs, but does anyone want an ALIEN spinoff with no xenomorphs?
