Hello! So now that got has ended I'm looking for some tv shows that I could watch after I'm done with my exams. Do you have any suggestions? I'm not looking for anything specific, although if you have watched some good period dramas, I'd love some recommendations. Also wanted to add how much I love your blog, it's really beautiful
tysm that’s so sweet!! i love giving recs so i’ve got a bunch that you might like under the cut; i’ve put a ♡ next to my favs
period dramas:
NEW WORLDS (2014)this one is a mini series, only 4 episodes long, but please don’t let that stop you! it’s about anti-monarchism and rebellion and forbidden love in the 1600′s & is set in both england and america. i cried more than once but the ending is so bittersweet and hopeful!!
POLDARK (2015—)i have a love/hate relationship with this one tbh. i started watching because of the main relationship but i ended up really into it for the side relationships instead?? the actual political plot doesn’t interest me but i love the drama between the family members. also i adore the women in this show, every single female character is well-written and realistic and you’ll love them all (even if at times you hate them). the men tho? the men are pretty much collectively the worst. “what’s wrong with the women in this family?” “the men.”
SPARTACUS (2010—2013) ♡i started watching this before i ever got into game of thrones but if you like the fight scenes in got, you’ll enjoy this! great characters, great fight scenes, great friendships. this one is based on gladiators who are fighting for their freedom.
THE WHITE PRINCESS (2017) ♡okay firstly and most importantly: jodie comer stars in this so you know it’s good. it’s also got michelle fairly (catelyn stark) in it though tbh she wasn’t my favourite character in this and i didn’t find her likeable at all. it’s not very historically accurate ofc but the relationship between henry/elizabeth is honestly the perfect enemies to lovers rep & always lowkey reminds me of book!sansa/jon possibilities
PAN AM (2011—2012)this one isn’t like game of thrones at all but it’s only one season and it’s super cute and has a lot of famous actresses in it like christina ricci & margot robbie. based on the adventures of a crew of pan am stewardesses, this is a good combination of lighthearted fun and chilling cold-war drama. an old favourite.
THE MUSKETEERS (2014—2016) ♡i’ll be gushing over this for years to come tbh it’s really just that perfect. the relationship between the musketeers is so lovely, the personification of ‘brotherhood’ really, but also the romantic relationships are really good too?? which for some reason i personally hadn’t expected. my fav couple is aramis/anne (anne is played by the actress who played roslin frey!) because the forbidden love & the respect and adoration between those two is just perfect but really every relationship (even the ones that don’t become endgame) are written very well
OUTLANDER (2014—)i haven’t watched every single episode of this one but from what i have seen it’s very good, and has some similar themes to game of thrones!! the sex scenes are epic, the main relationship is lovely, and overall its a very realistic show that features supernatural elements!
THE LAST KINGDOM (2015—) ♡i’m not going to lie: i started this series by skipping straight to 2x7 because i’d seen gifs of the relationship between aethelflaed and erik but it was so good i ended up going back and starting from the beginning! this show reminds me of ‘vikings’ more tham game of thrones but it’s not as gory and the characters aren’t all assholes. side note: if you love sansa stark as much as i do you’re gonna love aethelflaed, lady of mercia! she’s actually a real person but this show is based on a book series that looks super interesting! honestly the main character also kind of reminds me of jon snow
HARLOTS (2017—) ♡oh my gosh how do i describe this show?? the family dynamics are so! intricate! and! beautiful! honestly just stunning. everything about this show is s t u n n i n g. the costumes are colourful and vivid and honestly i’d recommend watching just for that but the storyline really does keep you hooked!! also: liv tyler and jessica brown findlay are love interests in this which is honestly a dream come true
BLACK SAILS (2015—2017)okay full disclosure; i haven’t actually seen this but i’ve heard very good things and it’s on my list!! it’s about pirates, i think there’s some queer rep (can anybody confirm??), and there’s lots of amazing women. again, allegedly.
dramas:
THE SOCIETY (2018—)i literally watched the entire first season in a single night so it must be alright, right? basically all you need to know about this is that a town full of teenagers go on a field trip & then return to find all their parents mysteriously missing and their town closed off from the outside world. it’s basically lord of the flies but modern! with some kick-ass friendships! and amazing young women (one literally teaches herself to be a doctor can you believe?)!
SHARP OBJECTS (2018)if you haven’t heard about this one yet idk what rock you’ve been living under but welcome back! this one is a m a z i n g but also hella chilling and the ending is such a shocker if it hasn’t been spoiled for you yet!
THE BOLD TYPE (2017—) ♡i always describe this one as ‘sex and the city for millennials’ but i’ve never watched a single sex and the city episode in my life so i honestly don’t know how accurate that is?? but it’s about a group of 20-something year old women who are best friends and work mates and they love each other so much?? the relationship between the girls is my favourite thing about the show but the show honestly tackles a lot of relevant issues; trump, age gaps, queer rep, immigration, racism, etc. i can’t recommend this enough!
CODE BLACK (2015—2018) ♡you know those episodes in greys anatomy where everything is life-or-death and you’re on edge for the whole episode? that’s basically every single episode of code black. this is hands-down one of my most rewatched shows ever. i love medical dramas and this one balances well written characters with action-packed medical miracles so honestly what’s not to like??
A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES (2018—)okay admittedly the only reason i watch this show is because of the main couple but i can’t help it when they’re just so gosh-darn cute!! they love each other so god damned much! i wasn’t completely sold on this straight away but by ep 3 i was HOOKED. if you like supernatural romances/dramas that are more mature than your usual cw show, this one is a good choice!
THE OA (2016—) ♡i can’t even put into words how much i adore this?? but also: it will confuse THE SHIT out of you. no matter how smart you are, this one will leave you scratching your head. basically: a group of people who’ve had near-death experiences get kidnapped and experimented on. it’s not as brutal as it sounds, in fact the show is exceptionally beautiful, but it does deal with some hard themes and the good guys don’t always win.
12 MONKEYS (2015—2018)do you like time travel? do you like forbidden and yet totally-still-devoted-to-one-another-anyway love? then this is the show for you! this one is dark and gritty and deals pretty realistically with the concept of time travel & self-sacrifice and what people will give up to create a better world. it’s got a happy ending & you wont regret watching!
THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE (2018)oh this one will make you cry. in a good way though! long story short a family grows up in a haunted house and it affects them in ways they cannot imagine. it’s hauntingly beautiful and poetic and everybody should watch it at least once imo
comedies:
THE MARVELOUS MRS MAISEL (2017—)okay so this one counts as a period drama as well but it’s about a COMEDIAN so i put it in the comedy section lol. okay so long story short, a woman is left by her husband, she’s worth 1000 of him & everybody else knows it because you seriously can’t help falling in love with this woman but ofc there’s period-typical sexism she has to face as she struggles with being a single woman, a single mother, and an up-and-coming comedian. def recommend.
SANTA CLARITA DIET (2017—2019)drew barrymore is a zombie!! who lives a normal life but also eats people!! it’s only weird for the first couple of eps. the family dynamics are snarky and witty and they manage to make gore funny?? honestly this entire show is legit laugh-out-loud darkly hilarious.

What’s your favorite episode in S2?
Hello darling!!
Thank you for the question—OOOOH my favorite???
To be candid, I have many favorite moments from season 2, but I do not necessarily jump at the opportunity to re-watch an entire episode from season 2. I love this season, but the episodes are weighty.
With that being said, if I had to pick an episode that is my favorite, as well as one I believe to be objectively superior, it would be ‘Faith’
‘Faith’ is not an episode for the faint of heart and it is not one that I have re-watched over and over.
But it is an episode that is masterfully done: the acting from every character is flawless, the cinematography is specific, the direction is empathetic, the music is powerful—all of it is beautiful.
It is an episode that transcends the art form:

And it is one I will never forget.

I absolutely adore Mother Hildegarde. She is truly, as Claire describes her, “a force of nature.”
She is woman of healing, ferocity, intentionality, and wisdom. When she says something, it carries of potent weight of revelation and a beautiful truth to humanity.
My all time favorite moment of her is when she counsels Claire to reconciliation after the loss of Faith.
Claire is justifiably completely shattered by what has happened and she cannot see beyond the despair she is drowning in. And so she blames her husband as a way to handle her grief.
Mother Hildegarde sees Claire’s pain and the brokenness of the human heart. She knows the path to healing.
However, Mother Hildegarde desires full healing for Claire beyond just the body—which can only come by granting forgiveness. She speaks gently to her beloved friend, urging her to pardon her husband.
Tumblr media
Mother Hildegarde does not say forgive because he deserves it, grant grace because he deserves it, or bestow mercy because he deserves it.
Grace is unmerited—it cannot be earned. It is a gift.
Mother Hildegarde tells her friend: FORGIVE that you may breathe the breath of Life again and be free: that you may be healed.
And so Claire does.
In giving grace and granting mercy, she bridges the gap between her and Jamie. Not only do they heal, but they are cemented even closer together in a union of unbreakable covenant.
Mercy is sacrifice. And sacrifice is love.
God says we must revel in mercy. Tread sins underfoot. And hurl iniquity into the sea.

Favorite quite from either the book or show (NOT spoken by Jamie or Claire)?
Hello again darling!!
Oh my goodness, I am LOVING your questions!!!
Ohhhhhh. Hmmmm…
There are two quotes from the show that I deeply treasure from Murtagh & Mother Hildegarde:
In ‘Dragonfly in Amber’ Jamie says,
I’ll not have ye dying for nothing.
Tumblr media
I won’t be. I’ll be dying with you.
This quote is the essence of Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser (also tears fell from my cheeks even typing it)
In ‘Faith’ Claire says,
Revenge mattered more to him than me…He may as well have run his sword through me.
Tumblr media
God says we must revel in mercy. Tread sins underfoot. And hurl iniquity into the sea.
This quote is the essence of love: mercy. Love is the ability to grant unmerited grave to the beloved when it is not deserved. It is sacrifice.
My favorite from the novels is by far this one:
Then kiss me, Claire,’ he whispered, And know that you are more to me than life, and I have no regret.
This quote is the essence of Jamie’s love for Claire. She is more to him than life itself for in her his life has been found. Even beyond that, after everything their love has cost them, he regrets nothing.

Outlander: GET TO KNOW YOU
I was tagged by the ever lovely @sassenachwaffles & @star-light-child. Thank y’all for the tag!
Ok darlings, let’s do this:
1. How long have you been a fan of Outlander?
I only discovered Outlander last year arounf Halloween; and it has been one heck of a year! I am still a relatively new fan, but as you can tell by my wee blog, I am in fact quite fond of the show hehe.
2. Have you read the books? If so, which ones?
*starts blushing* ...um. Ok. This is awkward. I have started Outlander, but to be honest, I have had a hard time reading the books given my current season of life. I hope to read them in the future fully when my schedule is less busy!
3. Which is your favourite secondary character?
THE LOVE OF MY LIFE: MURTAGH FITZGIBBONS FRASER. I canna wait to see my boo back on screen this season.
4. What is your least favourite storyline?
Oh goodness. I do not have many, but I would say the rape and torture of Jamie by BJR.
5. Favourite Episode(s)?
I have so many!!! Ok...
Season 1: Rent (1x5) , The Wedding (1x7), & The Devil’s Mark (1x11)
Season 2:  Faith (2x7), Prestonpans (2x10), & Dragonfly in Amber (2x13)
Season 3: . The Battle Joined (3x1), A. Malcolm (3x6),  & Eye of the Storm (3x13)
6. The Episodes you skip?
I skip the last two episodes of season one every time I do a re-watch. I have seen them both multiple times and that is enough.
7.  Be honest, how many times have you watched The Wedding?
I literally have no idea. AT LEAST 20. I have no shame.
8.   Finish the sentence, Frank Randall is a…?
*yawns* I, to be honest, see the humanity in Frank. He’s imperfect. I do see how good he was to Bree, but I just do not like the way he treats Claire.
9. What’s your Outlander watching ritual?
Typically curled up with a ridiculous smile on my face hehe.
10. Are you into shipping?
hehehehe. I ship Murtagh and myself. Does that count?
11. Do you read Outlander fanfiction? If so, what’s your favourites?
Goodness, I am so embarrassed, but no. I want to and will, but right now have not had the time! Send me your favorites!
12. What Outlander merchandise do you own?
I have a lovely calendar from @thesketchingwitch and about 5,000 photos on my phone. Again, I have no shame.
13. Which was your favourite- Rupert or Angus?
BOTH AND!!! I could never choose between those two pumpkins
14. True or False: Lt. Jeremy Foster is a delicious cinnamon bun.
True. Full stop.
15.  If you were to attend a “fucking bar-b-que” with Geillis Duncan what would you order?
I wouldn’t. I would get the heck out of there so she wouldna barbque me.
16. What areas of interest has Outlander sparked for you?
More than I can say. This show truly is a muse for me.
17. Biggest plot hole in the show?
Weel...If I were to be quite picky there are many, but the largest one that offends me personally is Jamie marrying Laoghaire.
18. Bree and Roger: Yay or Nay?
Meh! They will never be Jamie x Claire for me, but I am hoping this new season peaks my interest in them more and I can turn my “Meh” into a Yay!
19. Which JAAMF habit do you find most endearing?
His unwavering love for his wife. I truly cannot even put to words how precious this is.
20. Finish the sentence: Claire Fraser is _______________.
a force to be reckoned with.
21. Marry/Fuck/Kill: Dougal, Black Jack, Geneva.
Oh dear good grief...can I skip this one? Let’s skip this one.
22. If you could change one thing about the show version of Outlander, what would it be?
Hmmm...I would work on character arcs, specificity of dialogue, and consistency. I am quite picky when I objectively look at a show or film, but that does not mean I don’t adore Outlander BECAUSE I DO!!!
23. Using one word for each, describe Season 1, Season 2 and Season 3:
Season 1: discovery
Season 2: battle
Season 3: renewal
24. What are some of your other favourite shows/movies?
Downton Abbey, Daredevil, The Crown...honestly so many!
25. Where are you from?
The land of the long-leaf pine. (North Carolina)
That was a blast! And now...
I tag evrrybody!

Outlander First Impressions: Chapter 1
YAY!!!!!! Here we are for my first impressions of Outlander!!!!!!
I specifically chose this title for the blog series because First Impressions was originally going to be Jane Austen’s title for Pride and Prejudice. (JANE, I LOVE YOU DARLING!!!)
I am going to pull lines that stick out to me AND write a quick little opinion piece after each one. My commentary will be raw and my true thoughts ❤️
Hope y’all enjoy!
Tumblr media
“It wasn’t a very likely place for disappearances, at least at first glance…”
I am the first to admit that I do judge a novel based on the introductory line. It is incredibly important. It should be orignal while also evoking the heart of the book to be unveiled.
I LOVE this opening. It has a lot of metaphorical weight to it. Everything about Claire’s story starts with a disappearance not only from time, but from the woman she used to be.
I also adore the idea that Scotland stole Claire’s heart along with its countryman (HEHE JAMIE) even if it wasn’t at first glance ❤️
“We both felt it [Highlands] was a symbolic place to re-establish our marriage.”
OH LOL. Oh wow. The irony in this statement is NOT lost on me 😂. Sorry Frank.
Also, how fascinating is it that these two Brits almost went to Brighton, but then decided upon SCOTLAND last minute. I do not see that as a coincidence (JAMIE: SHE IS COMING FOR YOU)
“Inconsiderate little wench. I came here for rest, remember?”
Okkkkkk I already dislike Frank 🙄😂
I know he is saying this in jest. BUT FRANK: you haven’t seen your bride in literal years. How about a little enthusiasm? How about being excited that your woman wants to be close to you?
There is a lot of selfishness wrapped up in that pretentious joke.
“He was, however, known by the rather dashing nickname of ‘Black Jack’.”
YOO-HOO. UH FRANK. Hate to burst your bubble. Dashing by definition means elegant and gallant. It is a term of admiration.
AND YOUR ANCESTOR WAS THE POLAR OPPOSITE
I vomit at the mere mention of him (Sorry, had to get my BJR loathing out on the table hehe 😂)
“I had never owned a vase in my life.”
This line holds a lot of hidden meaning. I think when Claire speaks about owning a vase what she really means is she’s never really felt anything is HERS. Even her husband.
It has all always been slightly out of grasp.
“Now perhaps you’ll stop putting flowers in my books.”
GOOD GRIEF FRANK. DO YOU EVEN LIKE YOUR WIFE??????
Again, I know he is “kidding”, but really Frank? Do you have to make jokes at your wife’s expense? I’m only 9 pages in and this is your SECOND one!!!
WHEN IS PRECIOUS JAMIE SHOWING UP. I WANT BABY J.
“Mrs. Randall is verra much interested in wee plants”
I LOVE that Claire is a woman of the earth, dirt, and ground.
JUST LIKE JAMIE BUT IN A DIFFERENT WAY 😭
(Also Jamie’s quote, “I told them we needed to go fetch some more of your wee herbs” from 1x8 TOTALLY came to my mind hehe)
“…Frank said, looking dreamily at the horizon.”
You know what actually makes Frank excited? History.
He is not looking dreamily at his bride. HIS EYES BREAK FROM CLAIRE AND LOOK AWAY as he thinks about what actually gives him passion.
“…as I tried to smooth them [curls] back.”
Notice how Claire feels the need to SMOOTH her beautiful curls away from her face with Frank. She feels the pressure to alter herself.
YET JAMIE ADORES THE CURLS AROUND HER FACE.
“I rather thought he was looking up at your window…But before I could touch him, he whirled suddenly round and pushed past me and walked down the road.”
JAMIE!!!!!!!!!! JAMIE JAMIE JAMIE JAMIE! HI BABY J!!!!!!
While Frank is constantly looking away from Claire, Jamie stands paralyzed at the view of her.
ALSO, Jamie was like: Get out of my way, Frank LOL.
“I like everything about you.”
Well that is nice of you to finally affirm your precious wife, Frank.
HIGHLY suspicious that statement is genuine though.
“Just, when I saw that chap outside, it occurred to me…he might have been someone you nursed.”
DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER.
Yes, Frank. Claire has nursed that sweet man back to health MANY times. Annnnnd a wee bit more than that hehe
“The quality of mercy is not strained…it droppeth as the gentle dew from heaven.”
Claire, despite her stubbornness, is a very gracious woman.
This moment also reveals a lot to me about WHY she is so initially resistant to Jamie. She is a faithful wife and she does not desire to be cruel to Frank.
Also: this quote almost reminds me of what Mother Hildegarde speaks to Claire as she fights to forgive Jamie after the loss of Faith. “God says we must revel in mercy. Tread sins underfoot. And hurl iniquities into the sea.” (2x7)
OVERALL THOUGHTS:
The show and book very closely follow one another so far, bravo!
However, the interpretation of Frank on screen is a much more palatable one than the novel. I think Tobias/writers/directors added a sympathetic tone to Frank that is not in the book.
It is obvious that Claire is NOT Claire with Frank. She is stifled and quieted.
But also: WHEN IS JAMIE COMING. I WANT JAMIE. Heheheh 😍😂
Until chapter 2, au revoir!

February 21—What is your all time favorite thing about Book/Season 2?
Tumblr media
I love how Jamie and Claire faced unfathomable pain and yet they are resilient through the flames.
Season 2 is rife with suffering and loss. It is truly not a season for the faint of heart. Jamie and Claire undergo acute trials.
This is the story of a man and woman who face real adversity; there is no fluff to this fairytale.
Not only are they dealing  with Jamie’s trauma from Wentworth, but also living in a foreign land which offers endless complexities. It seems as if the chasm between them is growing to the extent that they will never close the gap again.
Just when they begin to see the light of day, a lightning bolt of unforeseen agony strikes—they lose their firstborn daughter.
Clinging to each other Jamie and Claire return home to beloved Scotland. The death of their child only forges their bond closer than ever before.
But then the largest blow of all hits—they must separate in order to save Claire’s life and the life of their unborn second child. They must continue on without their anchor.
Yet despite it all: the tears, the heartache, the despair, the agony—Jamie and Claire’s love only becomes all the more beautiful.
It does not break them; it makes them stronger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even in the fire, I will love you still.
