I've had the worst writers block ever since quarantine started, which sucks bc now that I have the time to write I just can't, everything I write feels wrong, and I've got a basic setting and senario, but I just can't seem to figure out the plot or even my main character, any advice?
I totally feel you, I was dealing with some massive writers block before I watched Outer Banks and started writing for that. I do have a few remedies for writer’s block that have actually worked for me pretty well. Especially when I’m dealing with like, original stuff. I don't know if I should make this a list or what but...
First, sometimes if I have like basics set out but nowhere to start I try to step away from writing and either make a playlist that I feel fits the general vibe/aesthetic or a moodboard kinda thing on Pinterest.
Next, I try to focus on dialogue. It doesn’t even have to be dialogue that I’m gonna use in the story it can just be a dialogue exercise to get me writing. It’s very cathartic too, sometimes I’ll take a convo that I’ve had that I wasn’t thrilled with the outcome of and kind of rewrite the way I wish it had happened. (Sometimes you get some good quotes out of it.)
Third and final suggestion, do a character quiz. There’s a really good one on btleditorial.com that’s like 142 questions. At times when I couldn’t figure out what I wanted in my character I would fill out the questionnaire which actually really helped.
Sorry this was so long I hope it helps👩🏻💻🙂
