On the other hand I found the PS4/PS/Switch enhanced ports of the original to be ideal. But I know ye olde rpgs are no longer appealing to many. I just worry of a similar treatment at FF7R because I simply don’t think it’s fitting (particularly the multiple games format). Unfortunately work and other shenanigans (see: all of 2016 you giant mess of a year holy moly--) have kept me minimally active... But I do miss writing, so I’m kicking off this year with a new Ashe muse! I’ll always love and continue to write Garnet, but for now I may be a little more active over there. // I’m... still very busy, (surprise!) but this seemed like a fitting place to share this. FFRK has been trickling in popularity, understandably, between unforgiving relic drop rates and Pokemon Go. But I still check in for my daily mythril and have been waiting for the supposed short-haired Dagger (Garnet) event for a long time now.

Dagger cutting off her hair is my favorite scene in video game narrative  if you haven’t noticed through my tags on any post related to it, snort. It means a lot to me personally, and sets off my most cherished point of Dagger’s characterization. So of course I try the relic draw, ready to be happy with whatever I get, if I get anything of worth, and 100 mythril later what do I draw? The blade she cut her hair with! The blade she granted a name of her own with (and even some more IX goodies). I couldn’t be happier. The name Dagger of Resolve is so fitting, too.

TL;DR I love Dagger/Garnet and I can’t wait to wreck this event with her and rest of my IX squad. Thanks, FFRK. ;u;

I’d like to begin to establish a limited batch of lightly plotted threads, since I now have a decent perception of my schedule-- I’m going to approach some folks, but alternatively, if that could be something you’re interested in, feel free to contact me via ask or DM? Again, the threads will be very limited, but any ideas can account for future interactions as well.

Though it’s canonically stated that Queen Brahne was once kind and well-liked among her people, I feel her character has always been underlined with some grey-zoned morality (her husband, too), considering Garnet’s changeling complex.

I mean, they lose their only daughter to illness, then just so happen to find a resembling horned six-year-old girl via shipwreck who can’t remember a thing about herself and bam. Promptly have her horn painfully removed and give her their late daughter’s name and life, like holy moly??  Just, geez.  Sure, it was a scramble to fill an emotional hole, but that’s still one heck of a reaction to such a tragic loss, and manipulation of a child’s life.  By the least, I don’t think Brahne ever properly mourned her biological daughter’s passing, and that might of subconsciously influenced her lack of empathy towards Garnet’s safety and well-being during her decisions in-game, when she’s an openly disturbed woman.

I think sometimes how incredibly difficult for Garnet it must be to have to upkeep a lie about her being a true-born heir to her subjects.  Though the importance of royal blood to Alexandrian society was never specified, it’s pretty obvious they function assumingly on a more old-world ideology than it’s sister-city, Lindblum, for example, where Cid is regent instead of king and publicly adopts Eiko post game (one of the many things about the game’s ending that I love).  Even an NPC notes early game how surprised they are that someone like Garnet could be Brahne’s daughter, showing that the public isn’t without notice but still unaware that their lovely princess is a doppelganger.

This is a good lead-in to another rant how her naming of Dagger is so effing important but I’ll save that for next tiiiiiiime.

// I just... want to unlock Garnet and Ashe in Record Keeper so bad.  But the numeral unlocking of the classic dungeons make no sense. Will IX and XII ever see the light of day? We just don’t know.

// Quickly setting this to queue since I will be going to work first thing in the morning, and then spending the evening celebrating with my partner as it's our anniversary. I know I'm a bit of a private person (a trait I share with Garnet, unsurprisingly), with a sporadic schedule to boot, but I do want to give a little thank you to everyone who has threaded and/or interacted with me thus far: you've really made playing Garnet again a fun experience and one I look forward to continuing.

So, yes! I'm aware this is a poor excuse for a shout-out post, but I promise the sentiment is just as strong.

With that said, a very happy birthday to Alexandria's finest. Long may she reign.
