Last weekend, we launched Eco Boards in Tampines, first in Singapore! This is part of our efforts to make Tampines Singapore’s first Eco-Town by 2025. We are installing Eco Boards at the lift lobby of 10 HDB blocks* in Tampines. The Eco Boards provide residents with real-time updates on their blocks’ electricity and water consumption. With more information, this will help shape consumption behaviour and reduce carbon emissions. Introducing five new friends to Tampines: Hornbill, hTetro, Emu, Dragonfly & Falcon! Tampines Town Council is working with SUTD (Singapore University of Technology & Design) to test these 5 robots at the Tampines Round Market & Food Centre. They will help to keep the estate clean, together with our cleaners. An appreciative resident emailed me to compliment a friendly and hardworking cleaner. Indeed, due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Tampines Town Council has taken more precautionary measures to enhance the cleanliness of our public spaces. We have increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting all frequent touch points by residents. These include lift buttons, handrails, playgrounds & fitness corners and void deck seating areas. We are holding a Consensus Gathering session for Tampines residents of Sunplaza, Zone 3–5 this Saturday (26 Jan) 9.30am-12.30pm at the Pavilion of Block 450D Tampines St 42. Thanks to residents who joined us for NRP Public Consultation and National Day Carnival at Block 480 #Tampines Street 44 last Saturday. Your estate (Blk 425-432, 450A – 450G, 451 – 460, 472 - 484 Tampines Street 41 – 44) has been selected for Neighbourhood Renewal Programme. I am happy to share that these proposed upgrading works will be at absolutely no cost to our residents and will be fully funded by the government. The staff at Tampines Town Council had an eventful year since they took over as the new managing agents in Aug 2017. Tampines Town Council maintains and cleans all HDB multi-storey and open air carparks in Tampines. There are usually vehicles parked at any time of the day. This makes it challenging for the cleaners to carry out their duties to sweep and clear the litter that could be found under these vehicles. They also have to very careful not to scratch the vehicles when moving within the narrow spaces between them. During washing, the cleaners usually leave a clearance between their high pressure water jet and parked vehicles so as to prevent any accidental exterior damage on the vehicles. Think about the cleaners taking care of your vehicles, you can also do your part in helping to keep the carparks clean by not littering on the floor. Thank you to residents who joined us at last Sunday’s litter picking event at #Tampines Street 43 organised by the Tampines Town Council. Together with our residents and Town council staff, we collected more than 51kg of litter, comprising mostly cigarette butts, cigarette boxes, tissue paper, drink cans and many more. Litter picking event is held in conjunction with Public Hygiene Council’s month-long annual clean up festival in May called “Keep Clean, Singapore!”. I am delighted to see such incredible effort and public-spirited acts from our residents to help clean up the public spaces. The most significant advantage of LEDs when compared to traditional lighting solution is having a lifespan that is 2-4 times longer than most fluorescent lights. Generally LEDs consume very low amounts of power and is luminous efficient. Tampines Town Council is currently carrying out a series of LED lighting retrofit projects around Tampines. There are various advantages in using LEDs: 1) LEDs emit almost no forward heat as compared to traditional bulbs like incandescent which convert more than 90% of the total energy consumed directly into heat. 2) LEDs consume less power, so they can operate effectively on low-voltage electrical systems and these are safer in the event that something goes wrong. 3) LEDs are naturally environmentally safe as they do not contain mercury and thus do not require special handling at the end of lifespan.
