I loved this quote from @chanelcleeton’s #ourlastdaysinbarcelona. It captures the courage of dissident and refugee artists and why what their art matters. (Her main character Isabel Perez, a Cuban refugee, is a painter.) #powerofvoice #powerofvision https://www.instagram.com/p/CeOMZU1LlkW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

This Tuesday @chanelcleeton’s #ourlastdaysinbarcelona released. Reading/listening to it has been like being wrapped up in a fuzzy & warm Perez family blanket, (sitting enjoying my café con leche and crema catalana) for this Miami girl whose paternal ancestors lived in both Barcelona and Havana. In an engaging intergenerational novel set across the perilous years of 1936 (start of the Spanish Civil War) and 1964 (post Bay of Pigs fiasco and Kennedy assassination) Beatriz Perez appears to have gone missing in Barcelona, where she may have been working for the CIA. Isabel, gripped with remorse over the way she and her sister last parted, travels from her home and family in Boca Raton to Spain to look for her sister. While there she learns a family secret about her mother, Alicia Perez, that rocks her to her core. #audiobookstagram #bookstagram #historicalfiction #latinaauthor #perezfamily #readersofinstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CeBXtxarv2c/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
