Our Body, Our Choice
I am so grateful to have been a part of the march today. It’s still seen by law as a Criminal Act in the state of NSW, to get an abortion unless your doctor gives you the okay. If you are perfectly healthy (mentally and physically) you have to have the baby.
We deserve as humans, the right to our bodies, to our autonomy. And in Australia it’s still not as free as it should be. If a woman simply wants an abortion because she isn’t ready for a kid, she should not have to give a reason to have an abortion. There is so many restrictions, and today was all about showing the people in power and the world who should have the rights to our bodie... only us. Today was also about standing up for the women in Alabama and many other US states, who now cannot receive abortions at all, unless they are willing to get unsafe abortions from now ‘illegal’ places. I don’t care if abortion is against your beliefs, that’s fine, just don’t make a law against it just because it’s your belief.
The protest was amazing to be a part of, and there was so much support from the people around us on the streets. Sydney just stopped for a moment to watch, to film, to cheer, and it was incredible. I am truly grateful to have been a part of that. Every time someone stands up for what they believe, stand up for love, and kindness the world becomes a better place.
