had a super eventful morning today. woke up at 6 to my mom standing in the hall going "well it's a shame my school's not the pirates, cuz my one eye's glued shut." she's been sick and she thought she was mostly better but then woke up like that with her eye weeping badly. she called in, but then an hour later we were woken up by a huge loud crash right outside

there was a pretty bad car accident right in front of our house at an intersection, that ended with both cars in our yard. our front yard is a pretty steep hill, so they were both stuck at 45 degree angles. one was most of the way up the concrete staircase set into the hill. if it weren't so steep we probably would've ended up with a car through the front wall of our house

thankfully, even though the cars were pretty crunched and the airbag in one went off, nobody was hurt! the driver who was at fault was just a kid, a new driver on her way to school with her brother, she just didn't see the other car. the other car was a neighborhood woman on her way to work

they all were a bit shaken up, understandably, but thankfully nobody was angry or mean, the poor girl clearly felt bad and everyone was like it's ok, accidents happen and nobody's hurt, this is what car insurance is for

my mom was nice, invited them up to the porch to sit and suggested the kids called a parent while everyone else made other relevant calls, and then we offered coffee and water while everyone was waiting for people to show up. a school bus driver on the way back from the school drove by, recognized the kids, and stopped to make sure everybody was alright

it took a while but eventually everything was sorted and the cars towed away. i'm honestly still shocked that nobody was hurt given the state of the cars, what a wild star to the day
