Friends, I'm taking a break. A REAL break, this bloody revision will get finished when it gets finished because me smashing my face into this manuscript and getting nowhere because I'm so burnt out I can barely function enough to keep afloat let alone do all the heavy lifting I've had to over the past few months, when I'm six chapters from the end, six chapters that a year ago, would have probably been relatively EASY for me to sort out, is STUPID. I want this book, which I LOVE, to be done well more than I want it to be done fast, and I want to be sane afterwards more than either of those things.

Thanks for the tags @artsyunderstudy (queuing up some star trek snowbaz for tonight) and @you-remind-me-of-the-babe (simply cannot wait for this fic to premiere). And thanks to everyone who has tagged me recently. I've been quiet for a few weeks. Life and work and mental health shit, but also I got so very stuck with both my wips. I invested a lot of creative energy into lost boys and then got ... lost tbh. Burned out. All the joy got sucked out, which broke my heart. It's on a shelf right now. I'll return to it (that Baz is very precious to me) but I need a break. I can't bear to look at it atm.
And then! My COBB decided to set fire to my original outline and go off on an unanticipated hike through the woods without a map. No nav equipment. I'm not even confident it knows which star is north. It's just ... wandering around with zero fucks about due dates or timelines, which has sent me into a panic spiral. My one wip is an angsty teenager who has shut himself in his room and refuses to talk (and like same dude), and the other thinks they're Bear Grylls with the survival instincts of a spoiled house cat. EPIC TIMES.
So I started a new wip. (Obviously.)
I needed something fun. Joyful. Something that reminded me why I like writing in the first place. And my boys Dev and Niall fucking showed up, and I'm halfway done with a lil Watford-era, canon divergent wip from their perspectives. It's the most self-indulgent thing I have ever written, and I'm having a blast. Eternal love to my fellow Dev/Niall stan and comrade (and beta!) @valeffelees, and to @bookish-bogwitch and @thewholelemon for cheering this fic on. And thanks to @iamamythologicalcreature and @best--dress for chatting about craft and process and validating that sometimes projects need rest and restoration, and breaks are a natural part of creativity.
Short snip of untitled deniall fic below the cut:
Niall POV, Watford, year 7
“You’re the worst, Niall.” I grin. “So you always say.” I stretch my arms up and flex my fingers before interlacing them behind my head. “And yet you keep running to me for advice.” Dev’s nostrils flare, and there’s a very real moment I think he’s gonna punch me in the shoulder, but then his face splits into a sharp, crooked smile, and he shucks off his blazer. He tosses it toward his bed, but it only partially makes it and falls to the floor.   “You give the best advice,” Dev says, and I see the flash of his tongue piercing. “You’re so practical.”  He begins undressing. Casual, unhurried movements, until his entire school uniform is a wrinkled bundle on his bed, sans jacket which is still on the floor, and he’s rooting around his dresser in nothing but pants and socks. The light from the late afternoon sun cuts through our window of Mummers, casting him in muted orange and amber. He does this all the time. Mindlessly strips in front of me. We don’t have an ensuite like Baz does (the lucky bastard), and Dev has always been comfortable in his body. He’s open and confident in a way that makes my chest ache. I wish I were more like that, but I’m sinew and bone whereas Dev is polish and muscle. Half the time I feel like something the cat drags in, and Dev, well … Dev’s the cat.

That question people ask all the time about, what would you tell yourself if you could go back and talk with yourself at [age]. This is what I would tell myself. It is okay to be you. The world tells us to hate ourselves every day, especially our bodies so that we will buy things to make our bodies "look" better. There is nothing wrong with you, only with the world around us. Be confident in you. There is only one you in this world and you make a world of difference just existing in this world. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Love yourself, that will be the hardest thing in the world. But remember, your body is your house, and you have to live with yourself the rest of your life. Who do you want to live with, a roommate/family member/housemate who hates you or a roommate/family member/housemate who cares about you and wants the best for you?
Love is protection, love is kindness, love is compassion, love putting your mental/physical/psychological/dental/visual/audial/textual/sensorial health first; if you fill your glass full, you can provide the overflow to the rest of the people, community, and events in the world, but if you are always emptying yourself for others, there is nothing left for yourself and you're always drained and exhausted.
This is even more so if you're an introvert; us introverts are different than extroverts. Extroverts get their energy from parties, events, going out, etc. and those situations actually fill their batteries to full. Introverts tend to have our batteries drained from those situations and actually need to stay home and do things on their own, or parallel play* to recharge our batteries. Then there's ambiverts, but that's another animal altogether and I'm not completely sure how that one works in practice at least not on the inside. It might be like my AuDHD, half the time it's tag team and half the time they gang up on me, so you might need to work on seeing how it works for you.
Besides all that, be you. You are here for a reason. You take up space in this world for a reason. You might never know why, you might be dead when you do for all you and I know, but you are important, no matter what anyone else tells you. If you didn't exist in this world, there would be less of something, It's a Wonderful Life is a classic for many reasons (historical accuracy being a huge one), but most importantly because it shows us that more than anything that we downplay our importance in ourselves, we underappreciate our importance in ourselves and our impact on this world. But we are also not the only ones who sees what we do, our individual impact on this world is precious and priceless in a certain way.
Don't forget that; you are important. Just remember, if you allow yourself the freedom to be you and to bring a positive impact to this world, you will do more for this world than anything else.
There are so many forces trying to undermine us, undermine our individuality, our entity, our creativity, our outlook on our impact on the world. Don't allow them, that is the best thing in this world, is being yourself, knowing you deserve to exist just as you are, and that you are not a burden, you are an asset. The world lies, but you can find your inner you and find the best, most authentic you. Quiet will help, introspection helps, but also unplugging helps a bunch, even more so than anything else. FOMO is a lie to keep you in the cult of control, manipulation, coercion, that type of abuse stifles your self-worth, self-esteem, and self-image so that you're just a hollow shell of yourself that can't know which way to turn because you're painted into a corner. Just know the paint eventually dries, while you're in the corner, take some time for yourself, allow yourself to just exist. You don't always have to be stressed, be busy, be on the go, be exhausted, be hungry, because existing in that state just opens you up and allows you to be brainwashed easier, to be isolated from your loved ones easier, to be manipulated and coerced easier.
You can heal, and you can get better, you can get back on your feet, if you can just get some time to absorb your worth, your peace, you value, your silence, your relaxation, your existence, your value.
*Parallel play is doing things in the same room with your loved ones or trusted ones and not interacting, but enjoying each other in the same space
Tumblr media
This is lovely advice.

21 Healthy Habits And Goals To Incorporate In 2021
Tumblr media
2020 was quite exhausting to be very frank both mentally and physically. For some, it was a chance to learn something new, slow down and focus on themselves but for others, it was mentally exhausting to the point that it led to laziness, procrastination, and delay in work without a proper routine.
In this blog post, we are going to cover 21 healthy habits and goals to maintain a balanced lifestyle.
I want each and everyone to take it slow and not put too much pressure to achieve all these goals at once because it takes time to build a habit.
All I want to say ‘Do not give up’
One and a half months have already passed and during the new year a lot of us must have set some resolutions for ourselves like we do every year.
Most of us are still going strong and that’s great but for those who feel like they are not able to keep up with their resolutions ‘It’s completely okay, you can still start’.
1) Prioritize Your ME Time
Having ME time is an important part of our daily life be it at night for a few hours after work or maybe on weekends when you have the whole day to yourself.
Watch your favourite Netflix show, take a nice shower, create a skincare routine wherein you pamper yourself by scrubbing, a nice face pack, and a face mask, eat whatever you feel like on weekends (cheat day), light a scented candle to uplift your mood
Try this scented candle which not only smells amazing but is super affordable at the same time. It instantly lift up your mood.
I have used their Rose, Ocean and Jasmine fragrance and it feels so good when you light up and listen to music or read a book. I mean there must be a lot of things you feel like doing but you can’t prioritize yourself throughout the week, these are just a few examples above.
I would suggest making the most out of your ME time.
2) Eat Nutritious Meals
Try to add fruits and vegetables to your diet.
I am not a fan of dieting at all and I try to eat homemade food throughout the week and have a cheat day on weekends just to balance out
Honestly, it is impossible to have too much homemade food or too much junk, we need to balance out.
One thing which I need to focus on this year is to include fruits in my diet because I eat less fruits and it’s not that I don’t like them but I just don’t know the reason.
Maybe I am too lazy to eat fruits
Anyways, include green vegetables in your meal throughout the week and fruits as well as it’s going to be good for your health, skin and also for your digestive system.
3) Drink More Water
I just can’t focus on how important it is to drink water.
It might sound basic but remember basics are the hardest to incorporate.
I know everybody knows the importance of drinking water but I would still like to state a few:
It keeps your skin healthy
Removes body waste
Improves digestion
Improves blood circulation
There are tons of other advantages but I have mentioned a few basic ones here.
A tip: Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go and refill after a few hours in case you are like me and feel lazy to go to the kitchen and get water.
4) Journaling
This is something that I started last year during lock down when things started getting pretty exhausting mentally and I wanted something to brain dump all my thoughts.
Journaling requires you to be true to yourself and be as transparent with your thoughts as possible.
There is no one to judge you, it’s just you and your diary.
Also, journaling helps you feel mentally relaxed and lets you reflect on certain situations and dilemmas going on in your life.
5) Schedule Your Sleep
My 2021 goal is to have a proper sleep cycle because 2020 has worsened my sleep schedule.
I used to sleep at 2 or 3 am most of the days in 2020 because of lack of motivation.
Get 7-8 hours of sleep in a flow and sleep early so that you can wake up on time.
It is going to make you look fresh in the morning instead of getting puffy eyes when you wake up. Also, it affects your health.
I am telling you all this because I have been there and it did affect my health and my face used to look super dull.
I am trying to improve my sleep schedule and trying to wake up early. Of course, it is going to take time but you have to be persistent.
6) Spending Time In Nature
If you want peace and need to calm your thoughts then being close to nature is the perfect answer.
It helps you reduce stress and increase your happiness.
Last year we were locked inside our homes and nobody was allowed to go outside.
Now that things are getting back to normal try to spend as much time in nature as possible.
Go to parks near your place, plan trips where you can be close to nature or maybe put as many plants as you want in your house.
7) Make Your Bed As Soon As You Wake Up
It is a good habit to make your bed as soon as you wake up as it prevents you from getting back to bed instantly and also reduces mental stress
Imagine you come back after work to a cluttered bed I am sure it is going to exhaust you mentally and now imagine if you come home to a nice, clean bed you will feel so relaxed.
So make sure you make your bed as soon as you wake up.
8) Social Media Detox
We all need a break from social media from time to time.
I mean there is no point in endlessly scrolling your feed and wasting your time and energy.
Social media is also one of the major reasons for procrastination.
Only follow people who inspire you and avoid following people who make you feel bad about yourself and fill you with negative or toxic thoughts.
Do not let anyone or anything question your identity.
Consciously, start giving your precious time to your friends and family instead of unnecessarily being on social media.
Set a specific time you want to use social media or set a limit.
9) Read Books
To be honest, I was never a big fan of reading books until last year when of course there was a lock down and we were trying to learn something new or build a nice habit.
That was the time I started reading books and the book that I read was a self-help one which changed my perspective to perceive life to a whole new level
The book is written by VEX KING named – GOOD VIBES, GOOD LIFE.
If you haven’t read this book please read it. It is an amazing one.
Written in simple language and something which is guaranteed to change your mindset.
I somehow love this new habit and I try my best to read a book daily for 20-30 min either in the morning or before sleeping.
You know until last year I was in no position to guide you why reading books is a good habit but now I am pretty sure that I am in a position to tell you.
It enhances your creativity, increases your knowledge and you know knowledge is never wasted.
You can use a kindle or paperback version, whatever you feel comfortable with. I prefer paperback so that I can be away from the screen for a few minutes.
10) Celebrate Small Wins
It is important to celebrate small wins in your life instead of being harsh on yourself.
Celebrating small wins will make you feel motivated to grow more in life and make you feel good about yourself.
11) Prioritize Meditation
Start by meditating 10-15 minutes each day if you are just starting out but I would say START.
There are a number of apps like Headspace, Calm, or Youtube where you can follow a guided meditation.
It is going to calm your mind and let you sit in stillness and reflect on your thoughts and emotions.
12) Set Boundaries
Setting boundaries should be given priority in life.
Do not entertain anything which makes you feel uneasy.
Also, learn to say NO when you don’t feel like doing a certain thing.
I know I know it is not easy to say NO to a lot of people and I am one of them.
I always feel like I am going to hurt the other person without realizing that the thing is being done at the expense of my happiness.
Another important thing, communicate with people and let them know if you don’t like a certain situation so that they know there is a thin boundary that they should not cross.
13) Being Productive/Organized
Okay, being organized is something that I suck at and I feel like I am telling you guys about so many weaknesses of mine.
But like so many of you I am also trying to be a better version of myself.
I really need to start planning a day or week ahead to stay productive in life because I am really bad at planning things
This is the reason I end up completing most of my tasks at the eleventh hour.
This is something that I need to focus on in 2021 so that I can make the most out of it.
Plan monthly tasks related to work or set weekly or monthly goals or plans. There are a lot of things you can do to stay organized.
Use either a dairy to write your to-do list or if you can then buy a productivity planner to keep you organized. There are so many productivity apps out there as well.
14) Get Therapy Or Consult A Counsellor
This is a serious topic which I need everybody to take seriously.
IT IS TOTALLY OKAY TO CONSULT A THERAPIST IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE SUFFOCATING FROM WITHIN
Do not care if anybody is trying to judge you because it’s your lie and nobody has the right to judge you in this matter.
Most people don’t normalize going to a therapist which I feel is so wrong.
It is so difficult for people to tell that they are seeing a therapist
Why?
People think anybody visiting a therapist is either crazy or has serious mental problems.
Especially after last year which took a toll on a lot of people’s mental health we need to accept the fact that it’s fine if we seek help.
I mean we all need help at some point or the other in our lives and there are certain things we do not find comfortable to share with our closed ones.
The fact is now it’s time to change our thought process and focus on our mental health more.
Normalize saying “I am visiting a therapist”
15) Slow Down And Give Yourself A Break
Last year became the year we all were forced to slow down in our lives.
Things didn’t go as planned and life became a bit complicated in a lot of ways.
We got so much time in our hands to self-reflect and learn so much about ourselves.
Instead of rushing through this year try to take things slow and take each day at a time.
I am in no sense asking you guys to not be productive, all I am saying is don’t put too much pressure on yourself or do not overestimate your goals.
Take one task at a time and give your best at it.
16) Create A Thin Line Between Spending And Saving
I mentioned this point in one of my previous posts where I mentioned how important it is to save money and not to spend it on unnecessary things.
Things you only desire but don’t need.
Again last year taught us the importance of saving money because when so many people were unemployed they relied on their savings.
Make a point to save as much as possible this year and in the coming year because life is so uncertain, you never know what is going to happen next.
17) Invest In Yourself
Invest in yourself means this year make a point to learn a lot of new things be it new courses or seminars, maybe a good workout or reading a new book, listening to a podcast.
Spending your time and money on something which will help you grow into a better person is the best choice you can make.
It’s good to unlearn and learn in life. Also, it’s a fact that knowledge is never wasted.
18) Stay Away From Toxic People
Stay around quality people because that’s the best gift you can give yourself.
Also, that is a sign of self-love.
I read an amazing post of Steven Bartlett on Instagram wherein he says
“Being selective about how you spend your time and who you spend your time with is a sign of self-respect.” –  Steven Bartlett
19) Practice Gratitude
One of the healthy habits which we tend to ignore is practicing gratitude.
Practicing gratitude is like a continuous journey which makes you feel good about life and gives a positive perspective altogether.
There are a number of ways you can practice gratitude –  by keeping a gratitude journal, gratitude prayer and being kind.
I have written a detailed post on how effective practicing gratitude is for your mental health.
20) Declutter Your Surroundings
A decluttered space brings you positive vibes and a clear mental state as well.
Take some time out daily for 15 minutes to clean your space especially on weekends so that throughout the week you don’t have to stress too much over cleanliness.
At least make your bed daily in the morning as soon as you wake up.
21) Stop Being Afraid Of Failure & START
Failure is something which can paralyze your thought process and you are so afraid to start anything which makes you feel uncomfortable.
Start taking baby steps and do not worry about the results. Focus on learning new things throughout the journey.
Also, remember it is okay to fail because at the end of the day you got to learn something new.
If you don’t start anything which makes you feel uncomfortable you won’t ever come out of your comfort zone. Also, you never know when these small steps can give you big results.
Words From The Lagom Lifestyle:
It’s high time we need to focus on ourselves and take care of our mental health.
Don’t be in a rush to take up all the goals together and go on with one at a time.
You have a full year to try these new habits and enjoy the process. Take things slowly and do not rush anything.
You might feel these are so basic points that I have mentioned but trust me sometimes the basics are the hardest to keep up with.
All the best for this New Year. I wish we could have the courage and move towards our dream life
Lots of Love, Sejal

Stone Soup 2020
This reflection was written for the Washington Ethical Society by Lyn Cox, November 22, 2020.
In the story of Stone Soup, we learn we are more powerful and resilient together than we are alone, and that however small we think our gifts are, they are a beautiful and necessary ingredient in the larger whole. Liz James makes a good point that we often miss opportunities because we haven’t noticed the beauty of our own gifts. It is also true that sometimes we hold back out of a feeling of scarcity, or because we’re not sure what else will be asked of us once we open up. We can tell by how many different versions of this folk tale are in existence that the legend of Stone Soup is rich with meaning. Just like a soup with many ingredients, a tale with many tellers has subtle notes and surprising flavors that we can keep discovering year after year. Today, I’d like to talk about appreciation and abundance.
Felix Adler knew that recognizing human worth is part of the project of moral uplift. He said, "May the humanity that is within every human being be held precious. The vice that underlies all vices is that we are held cheap by others, and far worse, that in our innermost soul we think cheaply of ourselves."
Adler exhorts us to appreciate each other and ourselves.
The Washington Ethical Society Community Relations Pact includes a commitment to “express gratitude readily and accept appreciation graciously.” You already know that appreciating one another and the staff is an act that lifts everyone up, and helps us to bring out the best in each other by reinforcing what is joyful, beautiful, and supportive of our shared mission. In a community as large as WES, especially when we’re mainly a virtual community, it can be hard to figure out how to participate, how to be part of the interactions and responses that help shape this poetry in motion. Positive feedback is an extremely effective way to do that. Appreciation increases energy and resilience. You know that. You voted on it.
What might be less obvious is the part about accepting appreciation graciously. When someone offers positive feedback, or even a simple greeting, take a moment and allow yourself to be known. We can’t always see each other face to face, even when we’re on video it’s tricky to figure out eye contact. An email, a chat message, an emoji, these small acts of kindness are worth noticing and celebrating. And when messages go out to the whole community, it may not feel personal, but the appreciation expressed for your dedication, your care, your simply being -- those sentiments are sincere. Thank you for being part of WES. Yes, I mean you.
Even less obvious is appreciating yourself. Please know that you are a precious creature of worth. Even before we get into what different people bring to this community or the world, you don’t have to earn your designation as a human being. I think it is easier to be part of something larger than ourselves when we start with the knowledge that we reach out from a place of inherent worth.
We’ve just been through Transgender Day of Remembrance, and I am reminded all over again that there are beloveds who don’t know that they are valued, who are shown by state-sanctioned violence and discrimination that they don’t matter, and the results are deadly. We have to do better at protecting our most marginalized beloveds, particularly Trans women of color, and we have to do better at building a world where every person knows that they are beautiful, valued, and loved. Here, we do our best to create a community where every person can be their whole selves, with all of who they are in terms of culture, race, gender, family shape, language, and ability.
People do not have to “contribute” to have inherent worth, and it’s still lovely to notice when people do offer gifts to the community. It is not mutually exclusive to appreciate people for simply being and to appreciate the time, talent, creativity, and resources that someone has intentionally made available to benefit others. In some retellings of Stone Soup, people bring things to the table that are unusual, things their neighbors would not have thought to add to soup. Maybe it’s some tart fruit that ends up adding tantalizing acidity to the soup, or something briny like capers that gives a surprise spark of salt, or some chickpeas to add body to the broth. Sometimes, but not often, Stone Soup retellings take place in a community where different families have different food traditions, and the resulting fusion creates a soup that is an entirely new culinary snapshot of that community in that place and time. Each person’s presence makes a difference.
Appreciation of others requires a certain amount of humility, recognizing that none of us can do and be all of the things that our communities need at the same time. We are each of us always learning, there are things we have not experienced and do not know. Humility does not necessarily mean self-deprecation. We can know that we are people of worth, and that the things we are in the process of learning are valuable talents to offer, while still admiring and appreciating others. You being your whole self, making mistakes so that you can keep learning to draw out your best talents, combines with your neighbor being their whole selves and being allowed to learn and grow in their talents, until we have a learning and growing community where works-in-progress are appreciated and encouraged.
Felix Adler spoke about how ethics is a cooperative endeavor, that we need each other in our uniqueness. He said, "People may be said to resemble not the bricks of which a house is built, but the pieces of a picture puzzle, each differing in shape, but matching the rest, and thus bringing out the picture."
Let’s go on appreciating the unique shapes of our neighbors, and the bit of the puzzle that we each bring, remembering that this puzzle is a living thing with constantly shifting pictures and shapes. Let’s find ways to affirm the shapes and pictures and flavors that are present in each fleeting moment.
Another value that Stone Soup reminds us of is abundance. In a scarcity mentality, we anticipate dividing up the resources that are apparently before us, with the expectation that it will not be enough. In an abundance mentality, we imagine what could be, and open our minds to the possibility that there may be resources we have not yet noticed. In an abundance framework, we use our time and our resources creatively, we find new applications for items and knowledge available among us, we remember what we are here to do.
Something I wonder about the village in the Stone Soup story is about their purpose for being a village. Why are their homes gathered together? Is it for convenience? Safety in numbers? Is it because political forces have pushed them together? Have they gathered to share a resource like fresh water or good soil? Are they in that area as stewards, caring for a sacred place? It is possible that part of the reason the villagers have stopped valuing their gifts and channeling them together is because they don’t know what their shared purpose might be.
The Stone Soup experience suggests that, whatever brought them together originally, the villagers might find new purpose as a result of this shift in perspective. Having a “why” can unleash energy, creativity, and unity. As the soup begins to cook, the villagers find a temporary purpose in curiosity. This is enough of a goal to help them to see their individual carrots and solitary noodles with new eyes. It is enough of a purpose to inspire action.
Abundance, coupled with purpose, helps us to overcome feelings of helplessness or despair. The people of the village didn’t seem happy at the beginning, or very active. Maybe hunger had made it more difficult to think, or maybe fear of scarcity was driving them apart. Coming together for a common goal reminds us that, even when we are individually limited, collectively we have power.
As we retell Stone Soup in these socially distant times, it is natural to long for the days when we can again safely gather in person. In a moment, we’ll see a video montage that includes photos of past celebrations. It’s OK to be happy about the memories and also sad that we can’t celebrate the same way today. But let’s also appreciate the gifts we have now, and those we have discovered as we have been forced to come up with new solutions. WES is more accessible than ever to those who live at a distance, or who have trouble with mobility. There are people who have never before been able to be part of a vibrant, humanistic congregation, and who now are just as much a part of the Platform experience as someone who lives in Shepherd Park. Let’s not lose our renewed purpose of inclusivity as we re-imagine a post-COVID future.
Given the challenges of planning a virtual Stone Soup, I wonder if one of the reasons the villagers fell into scarcity is because the world changed around them, and they weren’t sure how to adapt. They would have needed a new source of motivation when they couldn’t keep doing things the way they had always been done. They would have needed a new way to apply the talents they had developed under an old paradigm. They would have needed a way to encourage each other to try new things for this new world, to learn and grow imperfectly, with appreciation and acceptance.
Our experience of the last eight months tells us that none of that is easy. I know many of us are tired. Some of us have had economic and health challenges that need not have affected us as deeply in a society with a stronger safety net. Learning how to navigate a new world, even a temporary world when we don’t know how long it will last, is exhausting.
Yet here you are, seeking ways to practice abundance. You sent pictures of food and stones. You sent recipes, over 30 last I heard, which will be emailed to members in a PDF recipe book later today. Some of our Middle School families offered their talent for the story. Maybe there are days when you can’t focus on creating something, but you can begin with appreciating someone; that makes room for abundance, too. This community, collectively, has resources and skills and curiosity and creativity that can carry you into the future. There is abundance here, ready to be coupled with purpose.
The Washington Ethical Society is a precious and valuable community, comprised of beloved people. You are worthy just as you are. If you have gifts you want to share, skills you want to develop, a heart for caring, WES and the world will be made better by your generosity of spirit. We make room by appreciating each other as well as honoring our own gifts. We make way for the future with abundance and purpose. May it be so.

059: 5 Of The Most Productive Things To Do As A Business Owner
Tumblr media
TUNE IN: iTunes | Stitcher | Soundcloud | Overcast | Spotify | TuneIn | Castbox
Today’s talking point:
We are diving into the final step of the Busy To Boss Blueprint For Goal Setting: Step Number Seven, Implementing Advanced Productivity Strategies. This last step in the blueprint is definitely going to help you win and achieve everything that you want for your business and your life.
I am going to outline the top five most productive things to do as a business owner, which are really going to help you optimise the concepts that we've discussed so far in the Busy To Boss Blueprint For Goal Setting series.
Step seven includes the most productive things to do as a business owner. This is where we optimise this entire blueprint. Once you've mastered the first six steps, this is where we become a real boss.
The Busy To Boss Blueprint Steps:
#1 | Defining your goals
This is the foundation of the blueprint and identifying your goals is really really important.
#2 | Quarterly reverse engineering system
This is where your goals are broken down into quarterly checkpoints.

#7 | Implement advanced productivity strategies
Now we're going to dive into step seven of the Busy To Boss Blueprint For Goal Setting series and I am going to outline the top five productivity strategies that are designed to work with and optimise the concepts that you have learnt over this series.
If you are curious about diving deeper into this world, these tools and strategies, and you want to learn more about implementing The Busy to Boss Blueprint For Goal Setting, get your name on the Busy To Boss Academy Waitlist to see how you can experience all of this for yourself with my support.
Are you ready to get into step number seven? Let's go.
IMPLEMENTING ADVANCED PRODUCTIVITY STRATEGIES
Assuming that you have a great handle on your own morning routine, your productivity system and your healthy habits, these strategies can really supplement your work and enhance your progress.
These are more advanced strategies, which is why they're optimising everything you've learnt so far. These techniques will work best for you when you are already in a productive flow - and you simply just want to get even better.
Throughout my journey of going from busy to boss and enhancing my productivity, I have found these five strategies to be just what I needed to take my progress to the next level. They are just icing on the cake, the most productive things to do.
Now, although I personally love each of these strategies, and have implemented them, I don't want you to feel obligated to adopt them all. I know it might be tempting to want to dive in headfirst, but just hold off on overwhelming yourself right now because there's plenty of time for that later.
#1| Schedule Time For Thinking
You become what you think about. Your thoughts define everything. What we think about determines our actions, our goals, our attitudes, and our ultimate achievements.
In the beginning of my own personal development journey, I discovered one of the greatest or most obvious strategies in existence. It has honestly transformed not only how I think, but also what I choose to think about. That simple strategy is to schedule time just for thinking. This is one of the most productive things to do.
It seems so obvious because it sounds just like brainstorming. But it's so much more than that, and I'm going to talk you through how you can do this.
How to make the most of this strategy,
Schedule a focused block of time, isolate yourself, bring your favourite notebook, whiteboard, journal, printing paper, and ask yourself one very important life question.
Write that question at the top of your writing space, and then spend up to an hour brainstorming and recording as many answers to this question as you can.
The key with this is to ask yourself tough questions, especially ones that are regarding your current goals. Because what you will soon discover is that your breakthroughs are imminent.
The more often you give your brain the space to think about tough problems, the more creative and amazing you will be. So really schedule at least a few thinking sessions per week to optimise the strategy. I personally do this every single morning; I do it for about 15 minutes and I write down whatever thoughts come into my mind. It is honestly the best possible way to start my day.
I truly think that of all the advanced strategies, this one trumps them all. If you schedule consistent time for thinking, I promise that you will undoubtedly find a way to achieve whatever you set your mind to.
#2| Music for the Mind
Number two is all about music and specifically, music for designed focus. I used to spend many hours every day attempting to work. Whether or not I actually get anything done during my day has a lot to do with how well I cut out distractions and focus on what matters.
One strategy that has revolutionised how I get work done is listening to music that is designed for my brain. I use Spotify and specifically I use two playlists:
Brain Food
Chill Tracks
When it comes to music and focus in general, I cannot explain the science and you are very lucky that I am not even going to try! But the positive and productive effects are really easy to notice. I get into a flow state, get into the zone and within a few minutes the music fades away, and I am purely laser focused in on my work.
This music is designed to help you focus. It's designed to help you reduce distractions, improve your attention span, and learn considerably more while you work. So I really find that it's best to use music like this when you're reading, writing, studying, or doing hardcore mental activity. When there are no lyrics, it's so easy to forget about the music and think about the task at hand, even though you still have something going on in the background.
Music is such a powerful force on your attention and finding your ideal music is important if you repeatedly want to achieve your ideal workflow.
#3| Uplevel your Workspace
Standing desks. There are ways around this, let me just say because I actually don't have a standing desk. So, being more physically active is 100% the name of the game when it comes to increased energy productivity and better health.
One of my all time favourite strategies for just those reasons is either using a standing desk or standing at a desk somewhere. It honestly makes such a difference in your productivity, your posture, your digestion, your energy, your attitude, and your willingness to keep working long after you normally would have stopped.
And just in general, it's so incredibly important to incorporate standing, walking or more movement throughout your normal work day to prevent a whole load of health problems that accompany when you are just sitting.
So if you are used to sitting at a desk for eight hours a day, using some of that time to stand even if it's just at your kitchen counter, which is what I usually do, it can dramatically improve your health and how much you get done. It’s one of the most productive things to do.
So you have two options to get a standing desk up and running.
You can buy one
Or you build one
I highly recommend you build your first desk with materials that you have available already, so you won't have to spend any money. Experiment with this and see the benefits of it for yourself before you invest in anything. I stand at my kitchen counter and use some old stacks of magazines or textbooks. I even do that on my current desk sometimes.
Once you've committed to a standing desk, if you find that yet you want to use this full-time moving forward, then you can either buy a model or you can custom build your own to suit your needs.
Adjusting to a standing desk can take a week or two depending on your current fitness level and I wouldn't recommend you stand for all hours of the day. Alternate between sitting and standing every hour. It's also important just to make sure you're incorporating other fitness activities to help strengthen your back and your core as you make this transition.
#4| Build your Vision
Just as a reminder, vision boards are a physical display. Things that you want usually hung on the wall with pictures of houses, cars, inspirational quotes or other similar items that are cut out from magazines. So essentially, this is quite an old school model of envisioning your life by idealising the end result.
This method doesn't really work. Don't get me wrong, it's great to begin with. But there's a lot more to it then that - visualisation is only the first step and without a strategy, it gets you nowhere.
I recommend you start with this old school method if you haven't already to help you gain clarity over what you are trying to achieve. Then advance to the new vision board which is a representation of your journey. This vision board focuses on the processes and the work that leads to the end results and the outcomes that you want.
For example, if you want to run a marathon, your vision board could include an image of running at sunrise. Or if you want to publish your first book, you could have an image of writing in a coffee shop. The main thing is that we want to focus on the process that is going to get us there.
The best vision boards answer the question: how will I get to my goal?
This new vision board where you outline your journey, uses pictures, images, quotes, and very practical reminders of what you will be doing all the way to get to your goal. It's that simple. All you need to do to create your vision board is:
Focus exclusively on your current quarterly objectives
Write detailed descriptions of the process to achieve each goal
Find images, quotes or inspirational content that directly reflect a few of the key steps in each action plan
Revisit your vision board at least once a quarter and then update it as needed. With a well thought out plan in place, your vision board can act as an incredible reminder to keep you focused and more importantly, to keep you focused. Again, one of the most productive things to do.
#5| Go Upside Down
This may be the most bizarre strategy in this group. And I personally haven't practiced this one yet, but I have heard so many wonderful things about it: inversion. So inversion, or hanging upside down, can actually improve your health and help you get more done.
Dr. Robert Lockhart, who is an Australian Physician, has been practicing inversion on a daily basis for more than 40 years. The goal behind inversion is to reverse the effects of gravity. So gravitational forces are hard on the body and when you reverse gravity, you relieve incredible amounts of pressure and disrupt your normal rhythms, which carries with it benefits that you cannot get with any other exercise.
The benefits from this also include:
Significant reduction in back pain,
Less stress
Better brain functioning with an increased flow of blood to your head, which helps productivity
Improved leg and core strength
Better joint health
Improved flexibility
Better posture
Clearer skin, reduced wrinkles, and more.
Inversion is not a miracle cure for everyone. There are a few potential drawbacks including the fact that hanging upside down can be hard on your joints. It does take a while to get used to. It can be dangerous to practice this alone. And if you want to use equipment for this, it is a little bulky and difficult to store.
Now like I said, I haven't practiced this. I know some people have. I'm actually on a mission at the moment to be able to do a handstand, once I get there, then maybe I might be able to practice it.
Hanging upside down is a bizarre way to spend your time but it could become my new favourite way to spend my time. Look at it as a healthy habit and consider combining this with all the habits at the same time like meditation or affirmations or listening to a great podcast. So, all in all, there's actually a lot you can do, just hanging around.
And that’s a wrap of the most productive things to do as a business owner! Let me know in the comments which one of these you’re going to try first.

Note
I got Aphrodite in many greek gods/goddess quizzes, so i was just wondering... which one direction member do you think is which god/goddess? Including Zayn. 🙂
this is such a precious ask. I don’t know too much about greek gods and goddesses so I had to do a lot some research to answer this question as accurately as possible from my eyes. this might be totally wrong, but here’s what I think…
ONE DIRECTION AS GREEK GODS/GODDESSES
Louis as Dionysus, god of wine, winemaking, grape cultivation, fertility, ritual madness, theatre, and religious ecstasy. Earlier images of Dionysus represent him as a mature, bearded male, but can also be a beardless, androgynous youth.
Tumblr media
I think he can go either way. Louis is the oldest of 1d, so he can be seen (especially nowadays) as the most mature by default. However, he does have a lot of youthful qualities, childlike even. Around 2010-2012, he could usually be seen as the most energetic and the one who acted more childish in a funny way. As for the androgynous part, though he’s not the most feminine of 1d, I do think that he’s very capable of it, probably in his private moments that we don’t see.
Dionysus was also represented as a god of chaos and the protector of misfits. To me, this screams Louis Tomlinson. He’s very chaotic, but in a good way. He’s the party animal out of all of them, flashes his rebellious™ middle finger every chance he gets, and he’s said it himself: he’s not very good at biting his tongue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
lets just ignore zayn’s tweet thanks
I also wanted to add the good ol’ that’s your fookin job, u fookin losah. but there are no gifs that I could find :/ but yes, you’ve seen him with the paparazzi. he hates them, and he’ll never miss an opportunity to tell them to fuck off or mess with them a bit.
Dionysus is also the god of theatre. Louis did theatre in school. here’s him portraying Danny from Grease.
Tumblr media
Niall as Apollo, the god of music, poetry art, oracles, archery, plague, medicine, sun, light, and knowledge (this is the general idea, different websites say it differently). Apollo can be represented as beardless, athletic, and youthful. While Niall nowadays is sporting a manly scruff, we all know the Niall we all fell in love with.
Tumblr media
FURTHERMORE, that blonde hair??? Tell me it’s not as bright as the sun. I dare u. He may not be the youngest member of 1d, but he was sometimes portrayed as such. I recall an ot5 interview where they were asked to sort themselves as the Spice Girls. Guess who was baby spice??? (Liam knows)
Tumblr media
In general, Niall’s personality just radiates big sun energy. I know LT is mostly considered the sun (tiny son) but sorry bby, make way for Niall. He’s always been super infectious with his laughter, and let’s not forget oh no Niall!
As far as knowledge and healing goes, I think Flicker really gave us a HUGE glimpse into Niall James Horan. That album and song in general is just the definition of sadness, written by someone who’s clearly been through so much heartache but now knows the ups and downs of life and love. I think it also gave him and others the opportunity to heal by admitting and accepting this heartache.
Finally, music. we don’t have to doubt Niall’s talent. While the other members of 1d have expanded their musical abilities, Niall was usually known as the guitar player of 1d and did so on tour. Apollo, on the other hand, had his lyre become a known attribute for him. Stringed-instrument buddies? Signs point to yes.
Tumblr media
Harry as Aphrodite, goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation. Aphrodite can be represented as beautiful, so much that the gods believed that her beauty was the cause of a war sparked of the gods – because of their rivalry against each other for her. (this is not just me being headass for harry, I’m sorry he’s so fuckin beautiful, I don’t make the rules)
Tumblr media
wow it was really hard trying to pick just one picture
Aphrodite created wars, on her own and because of the gods fighting over her beauty. Though we know Harry would never do this, he is also extremely loved by a variety of different people. An example I have is when #1000DaysWithout1D and #1000DaysofSoloHarry were trending on the same day. Both sides were trying to prove their love and support, but it caused a bit of a strife without Harry even directly causing it. There are other examples, but despite this, H still spreads constant love and kindness.
Aphrodite is also depicted as naked or semi-nude. Let me reintroduce u to this 16-year-old boy:
Tumblr media
and here, while we’re at it, here’s grown up harry being the same exact mf that gets naked all the time AND his stage presence is just so sexual y’all, Aphrodite would be proud.
Tumblr media
I know I’m making harry’s too long but I just wanted to point out that some of Aphrodite’s symbols are a Dove, Rose, and Sparrow. I connected the Dove with him being an Aquarius, an air sign. And well, his bird tattoos are swallows but they often get confused with Sparrows. u already know about the rose tattoo AND the rose ring.
Tumblr media
Liam as Zeus, god of the sky, weather, thunder, lightning, law, order, and justice. Not gonna lie, Liam was a hard one, and Zeus is a big role to give him. But let’s break it down: Zeus is seen as a strong, very imposing figure with a regal body and curly hair. ok but remember his 2011 hair? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
Tumblr media
Zeus is also seen as the “Father” of all gods. We all know Liam’s a father, but this also makes me think of daddy directioner / Payne before daddy was forever tainted by our dirty ass minds from the early 1d days. Liam was always known for that, as he was the one to keep the boys settled down.
Tumblr media
he tucked them all into bed.
on top of this, Zeus was described as a god who brought peace in a place of violence. Having the role of daddy direction, Liam can’t forget all of his children. Not only does Liam has multiple playlists with songs from ALL of the other 1d boys, but he’s really the only one to still include Zayn and talk about him from a place of I-still-really-love-you-and-i-always-will. He’s also the one still feeding us with 1d content tbh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zayn as Athena, goddess of wisdom, war, and crafts. Athena appears to be tall, slim, bluish-green eyes, and golden hair or black hair. You’re all aware of Zayn’s jet black hair, but who can forget the times he dyes it blond?
Tumblr media
Let’s just get war out of the way. The only way I can really explain this is march 25, 2015 and any event with Zayn and 1D leading up to it. Zayn leaving the band causes disputes about whether people want him back or not, whether people are angry or understanding because of his mental health. Either way, he tends to speak out about 1d in a negative manner sometimes, which obviously doesn’t sit right with a lot of people. and he’s a goddamn liar if he’s saying him and harry never talked.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he’s also just a straight up savage either way we love us some z.
Athena is also the goddess of arts and crafts. Zayn is known to be very creative and artistic. He drew the stickers that came with the yearbook edition of Up All Night. During 1DDay, he had a whole segment of him just being an adorable lil bitch and spray painting the walls, and in this is us, he talked about how he literally bought his own house so that he could paint the walls. And then there’s the time he drew Alan Carr in a few minutes or so. needless to say, his tattoos aren’t his only association with art.
Tumblr media
Athena was also associated with the Snake but lets not

Life with Dad
For Mental Health Week I thought it was only fitting to open up about my own life. I know I’m not the only person in this situation, but it’s not something that people talk about openly very often unless it’s to a best friend or someone you feel you can vent to without them giving you the sad puppy face or thinking you’re just a product of your environment. As a child and as an adult I always get the uneasy feeling that when people find out about my parents, they automatically think I might be a little out there, or I get the response, “Well I’m surprised you turned out this well”, or “Are you scared to have children?”, “Does that run in your family?” , “How violent is he?” I hate the stigma. I always say, ” I’m fine, they’re fine, we are all fine.” because after years of answering you realize its just more comfortable that way and who doesn’t prefer to stay in their comfort zone. Now anyone who knows me knows that that’s basically code for, “Please stop asking me questions.”  This is something very personal and something that I have never written about before, but its a massive part of me. Both of my parents are mentally ill.  It made for an interesting childhood and continues to keep me on my toes throughout adulthood to say the least.
Dad: I'm moving out
Me: Why
Dad: You hate me
Me: No I don't you are loved
Dad: Okay thank you I’ll stay
From early on the parent-child relationship was never standard. But then again, what is the standard for that type of thing? The thing about having a father like mine is that there’s a mandatory briefing to friends and family before they come over. A pre-explanation that even if he looks like he’s talking to you, Odds are there’s “someone else next to you” and if you respond, he can get upset. And that it’s okay to just hang out and not engage in conversation unless he directly addresses you. Sometimes It’s phone calls from the neighbors that my father is yelling to loud in the front yard while I’m at work, It can be phone calls from an Officer who explains that they’ve received a threatening letter directed to the Police Station. And it’s buying him new clothes for him to then add his own flair by cutting them up in his own, might I add  (Very fashionable) way. I’ve seen him do some very creative things with a pair of jeans. And sometimes, It’s coming home and seeing him dancing in the front yard with his shirt off just laughing with his unseen company. Or giving a speech to his very own audience in the driveway. It’s hearing the front door open and close 5-6 times within the span of 10 minutes. Especially when he’s got a lot to say during his exits. It’s cleaning his room because he thought someone broke in and made a mess. It’s hugging him when he finally does let his guard down for a split second. It means really appreciating the happy moments with him, the moments of clarity. It means to do what I can to make him feel loved and safe at home.
Dad: Can I borrow ten dollars for cigarettes?
Me: Yes here ( hands over twenty dollars)
Dad: Ooohhh that's so nice, your so sweet. You remind me of my daughter
My father is my heart, and I will fight for him to the end; he can be kind and gentle, he can be hilarious and silly and there are times when he will dance around with me singing at the top of our lungs. He’s also incredibly smart with a college degree in Agriculture. Unfortunately,  He was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic before I was born. It’s not a one size fits all disability. There are different behaviors and stages. The effects can be progressive and It’s a darkness that attacks each person differently. It stems from my father’s side and they say it skips a generation, but I never really knew my great-grandparents or any great aunts or uncles, I only have stories from my Grandma. “Mental illness was not something that was openly discussed in their time”, is what my grandmother told me. Somehow I understood, so I didn’t ask many questions. Schizophrenia had started to take hold of my father, as far as I know, before I was born. After my parents were married it progressed as schizophrenia does. He’d do random things like painting the apartment they lived in different colors and he would forget he was cooking or running water. He and my mother would argue a lot, but she could never understand what he was talking about because he was hallucinating and she, fighting her own demons, couldn’t handle it. It got really scary at one point. He attempted suicide by cutting the sides of his throat and wrists in the bathtub of his apartment. Thankfully my grandmother found him before it was too late. Once my grandparents saw how rapidly his illness was progressing, They made sure he got the help needed. With the right medication and amazing support system, He became stable and lived a good life with my grandparents.
Me: Good Morning
Dad: I hate you, go away.
Me: Love you
Dad: Love you too
Over the years, I can see him fading more and more into his alternate reality. It reminds me of the TV Show Flash. They have Earth one, two and three. Each one is a different version of everyone you know. So everyone and everything looks the same but personalities are all different. In each world, the events that take place are different, darker, and eviler. I feel like I’ve always been on Earth one and He fluctuates between Earth two and three. In each version of Earth, I being his daughter, am a different person. So when he does meet me back on Earth one he is usually still upset about what I did on earth two and three. He will look at me and say, “You look like her, but I know it’s not you. Why did you attack me at war? Why did you burn my house down? Why did you kill my family? You’re not my daughter! SHE’S DEAD!”. I’m not going to lie, it does hurt my feelings emotionally. But logically I know he doesn’t mean to hurt me, and he’s upset because the other version of me killed the actual me, so he is mourning me. How can I be upset at that? It’s showing that he does love me. He just doesn’t know I am right here in front of him.  I can’t argue with him and say no that didn’t happen. Because to him, that’s his reality. No matter what I say he won’t budge, and I have to be considerate and know his feelings are valid. So I take a step back and say, “it’s going to be okay”. Or sometimes say nothing and walk away. Unfortunately, dealing with mental illness doesn’t come with an instruction manual, so I find ways to avoid confrontation and try to keep him as mellow as possible.  I feel bad. He’s trapped in this scary, sad, and violent alternate Earth, but I have no way of getting there to rescue him. I do what I can to help alleviate the stress. Making sure he always has the tools needed for drawing and painting. Some of the best times We’ve had have been our trips to Barnes and Noble to find his Favorite CD’s so that he can rush home and rock to his favorite Jams on his old school CD Player and smoke his tobacco pipe. It gives me just that little bit of peace seeing him find Joy in something and gives me a feeling that he’s going to be alright. I always try to remember back to a moment of clarity when he actually held a conversation. He looked me dead in the eye and said, ‘They are there, you just can’t see them”. I truly believed him and took it to heart. Who are we to judge and tell him what he sees isn’t real?
Me: Dad whens your birthday?
Dad: June. I’m one hundred and eighty-four years old.
Me: Well you look damn good!
Dad: I work out
Childhood with my father consisted of the two of us and his made up stories. Stories of the war and the many professions he has held. But as a child, I never knew that he wasn’t in the war and he wasn’t a policeman or a firefighter. I knew the stories were our bonding time. As time went by our bonding time became smoking. He always smoked cigarettes. To him having me smoke with him couldn’t make him happier. Whenever he was feeling like talking to me, he would bring his cigarettes and say, “Would you like to smoke with me?” I knew that was going to be the very few precious minutes of actually having the closest thing to a father-daughter conversation that I was going to get. I started smoking around fourteen, but it didn’t last long. I hated the taste and it just wasn’t for me. So after a few times, I would pretend to smoke just to hang out with him. He loved to cook for me. Now when I say cook, it means to make a bologna and potato chip sandwich with maple syrup and whip cream. It was always so thoughtful, and he put time and energy into making me, his daughter, a nice meal. So I would try to eat it but usually couldn’t get much of it down. And as much as it pains me to say, my cooking skills are a direct inheritance from him. His Specialty, however, the thing he would always make me as a kid that I loved, was Cinnamon Toast! He would get two pieces of bread, butter them, add cinnamon and sugar and then put it in the oven so it would all melt together and then give it to me with a big glass of milk. I was in heaven, and my daddy was awesome.
Me: Dad
Dad: Your an orphan I’m not your Dad
Me: okay
Dad: You were dropped off at my house, I don’t know you
I remember as a child having many conversations with him about death. He would always say when people die they become ghosts and then they get stuck. Or he would say all the people are being killed by shotguns or in the war everyone was cut to pieces. As a teenager with an impressionable mind, I would dwell on the advice of my father and continuously think about dying in that way and becoming a ghost. I always thought there were monsters under my bed and ghosts chasing me around at night. But I did feel safe with him; he was very gentle and kind. That’s the thing with paranoid schizophrenia, he might seem like he is aggressive or lashing out but in reality, he is just scared and trying to protect himself and his family. With my dad, his bark is always worse than his bite. He would say some scary stuff sometimes about the war and fighting. But, if he saw you say “No” loudly to our dog or cat, he would almost cry and go pet them and talk to them until they felt better. He never raised his voice at me growing up. He always paid child support and made sure to give me an allowance. Keep in mind this was from his disability check so what little he had he always shared with me and the rest of his family. He loved to get me little gifts which were always so thoughtful.
Me: Hi Dad
Dad: Who are you?
Me: Your daughter
Dad: She’s dead, they murdered her
All his paintings were always so calm and beautiful they would be of streams and the ocean and people relaxing. He would write letters to the governor telling them how to create world peace and to build cost-efficient homes and grow gardens to feed the homeless. There was always such a  fine line between happy and sad with him. My heart would break for him when he would cry and I would just hug him and tell him he’s loved. I was too young to understand what was happening but I knew he just needed someone to talk to. He has never really had any friends since I was born. He always just hung out with the family mainly my grandparents when I was growing up. They would go gamble penny slots and take him to eat and he would be happy, briefly, but still happy.
Dad: Hi, you’re a nice girl
Me: Thanks
Dad: Thanks for letting me live here, my family is all dead
Me: Your okay, everything is ok
Dad: It hurts so bad…
As the years go by, the days get a little bumpier, the hallucinations get a little stronger, and the mood swings get a little quicker. But there are still moments of happiness, laughter and the light still periodically will sparkle in his eye. His trips to Earth two and three become more frequent but we take a deep breathe say a prayer and wait for the storm to pass. LIfe is finding the joy in every moment that you can, loving one another without conditions and loving this journey called life. If you know someone who struggles with mental illness take the time to send them a text or call remind them how much they matter and that they are loved. It really is the little things in life that matter most.

March 14th 2021
It’s mid March. I just thought of McCarthy’s class. Oh how I miss that teacher. He was so fascinating to me. One of the coolest teachers I’ve ever experienced and I am so thankful for him. I would love to hang out with him one day. Dear universe, please make this happen. Also, I find myself gravitating towards the Education field, something worth pursuing down the line, I believe. I know I love children, I love their open mindedness and I love the idea of impacting their developing minds. I want to plant beautiful seeds in their minds.
I’m getting close to finishing my bootcamp. What a journey it has been the past 7 months. Honestly, this was a very difficult time for me. My health was deteriorating and I finally feel myself feeling much better. I am feeling more of myself, I feel a little more motivated. I feel hopeful and excited for the future. I am more compassionate and easy with myself. I feel more balanced than I did a month ago. I have motivation to work on myself physically, mentally, spiritually, like on all levels. I really miss my social life. I became pretty depressed due to lack of social life, pressure and stress from schoolwork, overeating unhealthy foods which lead to brain fog which affected my thinking abilities. Being sad about shifting from creative freedom to more structured technical route affected my health, too. I can look back and reflect on these hard times and learn from it. I have always enjoyed these moments of reflection, gaining understanding and wisdom after a period of hardship. Overall, I am very thankful for my parents for supporting me financially, I am also thankful for my grandma for letting me stay with her. She also supports me financially. I am really blessed and protected. I am heard and seen. I have great friends and family that support me in different ways. This precious life is appreciated. Thank you, universe, life for this path.
Sometimes we cannot change the external but we can change our internal and we do have choice. People changing their lives, changing careers, lifestyles due to the pandemic is a wild journey. I pray for our human collective. Knowing that I am not alone in this feels comforting. Adjusting to change, being flexible and adaptable is a great way to deal with life’s diversity. Going into the tech field is pretty crazy for me actually. So out of my comfort zone, so out of my element. It’s a tough switch up, but a necessary one, perhaps. The romantic in me fantasizes about a creative fruitful life that satisfies the soul. And although I can certainly manifest this, I can see how going into the IT industry would be a great choice in regards to stability and security for now. I can always integrate the two paths. Parallel careers. It does pain me to know that I will be giving away 40  hours of my life to a company that does not satisfy my creative soul but the human in me appreciates the money making aspect. It allows me to build some sort of living foundation via getting a house, funding my creative pursuits, traveling, benefits, etc. There are pros and cons, of course. As long as I dedicate time and energy towards my artistry, I will be good. I will still need it to cope so it’s not like I will leave my creative side. Bootcamp has been an uphill battle but I do see the view almost. I think what will help is working out, being physically active, going to the gym, build muscles, lose weight, go on nature walks at the beach and reservoir. I also think that getting a part time job would be lovely too because I miss interacting with people. I miss being social. I want to chat and mingle. I am thinking about seed to sprout. They’re open 9am-3pm, 7 days a week. I can do Wednesdays and weekends 9am-3pm. I need money for car insurance, gas and phone bill.

September 27: Be an Immovable Pillar in the Work of the Lord
Be an Immovable Pillar in the Work of the LordSeptember 27, 2020
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” — 1 Corinthians 15:58
Often when I read the above verse, I think of a precious lady named Nina Reeves, who is now in Heaven along with the multitudes of other faithful saints. Let me tell you a little about Nina and how she impacted my life and the lives of many other people.
Nina served in the nursery at our church when I was growing up. She served in that capacity for more than 60 years and held hundreds of babies, including my sisters and me and all my friends. Finally, Nina went to Heaven at the age of 92. When she passed away, she was in good health and was still serving every week in the exact same church nursery room where she had held me as an infant.
*[If you started reading this from your email, begin reading here.]
When I think of Nina, the word pillar comes to my mind. To think that she forfeited her right to sit in church services for 60-plus years so parents could sit in the main church services to receive the teaching of the Word — that is amazing to me. I’m sure there must have been times when Nina must have felt that her ministry was unimportant — just caring for babies in the most isolated room of the nursery. Surely there must have been moments when the devil or even her own mind would tell her, “You’re just a nursery worker.” But the fact is, her service ultimately impacted the lives of countless people for eternity. Part of the fruit of my own ministry, I’m sure, will be accredited to Nina Reeves.
In First Corinthians 15:58, the apostle Paul wrote, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” Today I want to look at Paul’s message in this verse and encourage you in the heroic work you are called to do as one of God’s “pillars.” You may be tempted to think your role is not very important, but there will come a day in Heaven when God will display your part in His plan through the ages on Heaven’s “movie screen,” and you will see the great effect you had on others because you were “steadfast” and “unmovable.”
The word “steadfast” is the Greek word hedrios, and it conveys several meanings. First, it means to be stationary, such as something that sits in one place for a long, long time. It also describes something that is firm and steady; thus, this word was frequently used in connection with foundations in buildings. Furthermore, it describes something that is strong, unbendable, unbreakable, and permanent, such as a strong column that holds up a roof.
Therefore, when the Holy Spirit through Paul urges us to be “steadfast,” He is calling on you and me to be totally reliable — not shaky or undependable. We should be stationary in the roles where God has called us to serve. We shouldn’t be quickly shaken or easily lured to some other place or task. We must be like pillars in the place where we’ve been called to serve in the house of God.
See yourself as a pillar that others can depend on to be totally reliable. You are called to be a pillar!
Notice First Corinthians 15:58 also exhorts us to be “unmoveable.” This word is a translation of the Greek word ametakinetos, which refers to something that is not capable of being moved from one place to another place. In other words, once you’ve said yes to the call of God on your life, you should be a permanent fixture in that place where God has called you to serve.
Satan will always attempt to sidetrack you and me and anyone else whom God calls to do a job. The enemy will try to use discouragement and a host of other tactics to move us off course from our God-assigned place of service. That’s why it’s imperative that we make up our minds to be a permanent fixture in that place where God has called us to serve. You and I must be thoroughly dedicated to fulfill our assignment and carry on and follow through until the task is done the way the Lord expects it to be done.
The apostle Paul went on to say, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” The word “labor” in this verse is the Greek word kopos, which describes the most exhausting kind of work or effort. By using this word, Paul was stating that sometimes it isn’t easy to do what the Lord asks us to do. In fact, there are times when it requires great effort to walk in obedience. I can personally testify that it’s taken great commitment and fortitude to do what God has asked me to do — and to stick with it to the end.
Before Paul concluded First Corinthians 15:58, he reminded us of a vital principle we must never forget! He said, “…forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
Please pay special attention to that word “vain.” It is the Greek word kenos, and it depicts something that is wasted. This is God’s promise to you that anything you do for Him is never a waste! So when your flesh or the devil whispers to you and tempts you to think that no one notices or appreciates your efforts, that your job is insignificant, or that you are wasting your time — that is the moment for you to remind yourself and the devil that nothing done for the Lord is ever a waste. Every effort, every deed — everything you have ever done in obedience to His instructions — will be accredited to your heavenly record!
I began today by telling you about a precious lady named Nina, who served 60-plus years in the church nursery. Once she knew where God called her to serve, Nina never moved from that place. She was steadfast and immovable. And even though she may have been tempted to think of herself as insignificant or to listen to what the devil may have told her, she stuck by her commitment and became a pillar in that church and a personal hero to me. Today in Heaven, I guarantee you that Nina doesn’t regret those 60-plus years of serving in the nursery. She now sees with her own eyes the tremendous fruit that was reaped because she found her place and stayed in it.
That is the legacy of Nina Reeves — and that should be our legacy as well. We must always remember that nothing we ever do for the Lord is a waste. And as we remain steadfast as immovable pillars in the place where God has called us to serve, we can trust Him to remain faithful to us to repay — in His time and in His perfect way!
MY PRAYER FOR TODAY
Lord, I ask You to help me know the place where I am supposed to serve and to use my gifts and talents. Help me accept Your assignment with joy, regardless of what it is or where it is, and to keep my eyes fixed on my heavenly reward. In times when it gets tough and my flesh screams to be released from my assignment — or in those moments when the devil tries to tell me that my part is insignificant — please help me dig in my heels and refuse to move from that place where You have called me.
I pray this in Jesus’ name!
MY CONFESSION FOR TODAY
I declare that I am of value to God and to His plan to touch people. I am reliable, steadfast, and immovable in what God has asked me to do. Even if the devil tries to tell me that I’m not making a difference, I declare that I am making a difference in the lives of others. My time, talents, and gifts are a blessing to others. And I boldly confess that nothing I ever do for Him is wasted!
I declare this by faith in Jesus’ name!
QUESTIONS FOR YOU TO CONSIDER
Can you think of faithful people who have served year after year in the same place? Who comes to your mind? Have you ever taken time to go out of your way to express your gratitude to these faithful servants of the Lord for the way they have served?
Would anyone think of you when creating a mental list of faithful people? What have you done consistently over years that has eternally impacted other people’s lives?
If you haven’t served consistently in any position in your church or in some ministry organization, why not? Why don’t you make a list of ways you can serve? It may take some creative thinking to do it, but take time to ponder how you use your time, talents, and energies to make a difference in the lives of other people.

My beautiful death I spent 15 years sanding and grinding mussel shells to create my sculptures. Then I was diagnosed with heavy-metal poisoning
When you’re an artist, the work often becomes more important than you. Sadly, that’s always been the case for me. I started sculpting in 1991, working only with natural materials. At first, I sold small sculptures made of eggshells at the One of a Kind Show. Later, I created larger pieces modelled after the human anatomy using bones, coral and dried plants. My studio housed a collection of dead things.
In 1998, I finished a sculpture of Lilith—the first woman, according to Jewish folklore—made from eggshells. I began using blue mussel shells to create her counterpart: Adam, the first man. The shells came from Atlantic Canada, and I’d buy them in bulk in Chinatown, so that I could sort through the bins and choose shells in the shapes I wanted.
I spent up to 12 hours a day grinding and sanding the shells to fit into the shape of Adam’s body. They beautifully replicated the striations in his muscle fibres. I sifted through thousands of mussels and served them to friends and family two or three times a week.
After a few months working on Adam, I began to feel unwell. I was agitated all of the time. I had constant headaches, and I vomited often, sometimes a few times a day. I visited a never-ending assortment of specialists—neurologists, rheumatologists, endocrinologists—hoping to figure out what was wrong with me. When they asked me if I worked with anything toxic, I said no, that I only used natural materials.
The symptoms worsened. After a few hours of grinding mussel shells, I would become immobilized. My muscles ached. My hands would cramp when I held my tools. I became combative and fatalistic, declaring that my life was over. My husband was afraid to the leave the house, worried he’d come home and find me hanging from the chandelier. He found friends to babysit me. These symptoms continued, on and off, for 15 years.
One day in 2013, I cleaned out my ventilation system, which had trapped years of fine dust. As I swept out the particles, I suddenly felt weak and unable to stand. For the next week, I lay in bed, my mind in a fog. I couldn’t string full sentences together, and my speech was slurred. My whole body was in excruciating, paralyzing pain—my neck, abdomen, arms—and I had suddenly lost all hearing in my left ear.
My hearing didn’t return after that, and my short-term memory became badly impaired. I developed spatial disorientation, confusing up with down, right with left. I couldn’t recognize people I had known most of my life. At the peak of my mental distress, I would walk up and down the street, muttering and shouting profanities to no one in particular. I saw a psychiatrist, but he had no idea why I was so erratic. We tried everything: antidepressants, antipsychotics, tranquilizers. Nothing helped. Painfully aware of my deteriorating mental health, I began to withdraw from the world.
It was nearly impossible to create art in this state. My brain was no longer capable of conjuring up anything except anger and misery. But I believed I was dying, and I wanted to finish the sculpture of Adam before I was gone. I had no idea he was the thing that was killing me.
One day, I visited the ROM, where I met a curator of invertebrates. He mentioned that bones and shells accumulate toxins in their environment. Upon further research, I discovered that common blue mussels are filter feeders. They pump several litres of water per hour and concentrate chemicals in their tissues. In some countries, mussels are used to read toxicity levels in the water. Suddenly, everything clicked into place.
In 2015, I was diagnosed with heavy-metal poisoning. Doctors found high levels of arsenic and lead in my blood, the result of chronic exposure. The water where the mussels grew was likely contaminated from industrial waste, and the mussel shells I’d been working with for decades were toxic. Metals can be absorbed through consumption, air or skin. I’d been exposed in every way.
When you make art, you often feel diminished and small—you’re just a vessel for the creative energy to pass through. My body was carrying a painful message about the poisoning that Earth is experiencing. Each of my sculptures has precious metal and stones embedded in them; all too often, treasure is defined by its scarcity. But the real treasures aren’t jewels and silver. They’re the creatures being eliminated, the beauty that’s disappearing.
I will never fully recover, and I continue to live with many neurological and metabolic symptoms. I have difficulty holding a thought. I’ll pick up a tool to work on a piece and forget why I chose it. I struggle with autoimmune disorders, and there are many foods I can’t eat without becoming ill. I’m at a high risk for developing Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s. Heavy metals have an affinity for the tissues of the nervous system, particularly the ones in the brain.
I’m now 59 years old, and my quality of life is poor. But while I continue to work, even though it’s more difficult every day, I feel a terrible sadness. When we talk about environmental damage, we speak of declines in populations. Numbers and species. But I’ve experienced the suffering of so many creatures trapped in their polluted habitats. I now hope their voices can be heard—that my art might create a sense of awe, a sense of connectivity and reverence for the natural world.
I completed Adam in 2015. If I had left him unfinished, this all would have been for nothing. I often think of Beethoven, who suffered from lead poisoning; he lost his hearing and producing his work became an angry struggle. In the end, he had to create his music from the memory of sound. I was creating my art from the memory of joy. When I look at Adam, I feel grief—both for myself and our planet. But I also feel satisfaction because he is magnificent. That’s how I find my hope. I call him my beautiful death.

Note
You seem like an incredibly dedicated doctor who spends a lot of her time working. How do you manage to keep your mental health at its optimum? My grasp of healthcare is that it is both physically and emotionally laborious. I know that often, you have shared with us that has been difficult to maintain a work life balance. Do you feel that medicine itself is fulfilling for you?
Thank you! It’s an immense privilege to be able to share some of my thoughts and experiences with you. You’re right that it’s hard work. Physically, night shifts and long days do things to your body that you didn’t quite realise before you went to med school. It can mess up your eating patterns, sleep patterns, and set off any other conditions you have, for example. I find it much harder to maintain a normal daily rhythm than I used to; after months or years of telling your body ‘you’ll eat/sleep/rest when I have time’ rather than listening to it, you get less good at listening to what your body is telling you that you need. Plus maintaining a healthy diet becomes harder…Emotionally, it can be draining. Difficult cases. Stressed out patients or relatives. Stressed out colleagues. Too many things to do in too little time; the feeling that you’re always just trying to get by. The background feeling that the NHS is going downwards instead of changing for the better. I don’t spend more time working than my other colleagues (in fact, right now, this month, being on a gap-year of sorts, I spend *less* time doing so). But I have worked some particularly difficult rotas where it felt like I was always on-call. I’m not more dedicated than anyone else, I’m just lucky in the placements I’ve had. Hard work, but with supportive colleagues and friends who have made it possible to stay focused and sane. Not everyone is so lucky; some people had more problems to begin with, or happened to work in departments that are much more understaffed and poorly supported. Some people have to deal with unhelpful or abusive colleagues. Or with patients and relatives far worse than the ones I encountered.  Perhaps they don’t have the same support from friends and colleagues that I did, or they have a lot more problems to deal with. Some people really struggle, but that’s not because they are worse doctors, or worse people. It’s because they’ve got a lot more on their plates. And medicine really does load our plates unequally. Some people get stuck with unfair circumstances, others are much luckier. I count myself lucky. I was talking abot this with a close friend the other day; there is little difference between me and a doctor who hates medicine, or my colleagues who sadly took their lives. Those of us who got by without major burnout (or worse) arent’ stronger, or better; under the right circumstances we too could really struggle. There were a few times during the more challenging parts of my job when I could really see myself coming close, and I began to understand just how easy it is to be sucked into despair. Any of us, could, under the wrong set of circumstances, end up in their shoes. How to look after yourself:This is why we all need support. I rely heavily on my medical friends and our whatsapp groups. When I’m having a bad day, or when I need stress relief, or when I’ve had a learning point to reflect on, or an interesting case, or genuinely don’t know what to do, they are there. It’s not just them; reaching out to close family and friends is vital, because isolating yourself harms you in the longterm, even if it feels protective. Choose a living situation that works for you.Personally, I like living with flatmates, because it’s nice to come home and rant to someone (and I usually live with medics so they have an idea how it is) and when you get on, it really works well. I’m a bit of an introvert, so whilst I’ll gladly go to the pub with friends (or out for a meal, film, etc) I don’t really put myself out there every night socialising with strangers, particularly if I’m working out of London and I don’t know anyone locally apart from colleagues. If I lived alone I’d find it more difficult to motivate myself to go out. And I know a lot of my friends feel the same. But when you live with friends or flatmates, you encourage each other to do stuff, and also take care of each other. We’d take it in turns to clean and buy food etc so nobody would have to come home from a horrific batch of oncalls to find no food in the cubpoards and that it’s their turn to do all the cleaning. Ovbiously, you can substitute ‘partner’ for ‘friends and flatmates’, or even ‘family’ if you decide to live at home.. I’m not saying you can’t or shouldn’t live alone; some of my friends love their alone-space. But interestingly, these are usually also the friends who are super-organised, really motivated to meet up and organise things, and get out of the house, so it works well for them. But rather that it helps to build in support into your life, especially if you have a tendency to isolate yourself, or are starting somewhere new and far from friends and family. This goes hand in hand, but also support each other at work. Be a team, in the truest sense of the word. Be there for your nurse colleagues, and your team. Be kind to the other teams you work with. Look out for the juniors. Be supportive to your seniors.  And they’ll do the same for you. In FY1 we used to help each other out all the time; it made a chaotic year much more fun and manageable and helped us make firm friendships. during my paeds job it usually meant gently walking the surgical/ENT/ortho SHOs through bleeding and cannulating kids when they asked our team to do it (because secretly they didn’t know or felt terrified at the prospect). Whenever you can, act in the spirit of kindness rather than being obstructive; if you have the time and energy to help, consider doing it. There will be times when you have to stick up for yourself and will be cross, but try not to let that be your default response.  Having hobbies and interests outside of medicine is also important. It’s easier said and done. Ask me how many novels I’ve read in the past few years and I’ll laugh in your face. I count myself a prolific reader, but something has to give; when you’ve got one or two hours in a long day to eat and de-stress before bed, you ealise how finite your time and energy are. Even the things you decide to prioritise might not cooperate with you; medicine can sap you because it leaves you with little time and energy. Even when I had time to create, you can guess how creative I felt after a difficult week at work. Sometimes you look forward to days off ages in advance, but when they come around you are so knackered that all you can manage is cleaning your flat and going to the park. Part of keeping your health as good as you can is trying to maintain some semblance of rhythm in your life. Eat when you know you have ot eat, sleep when you know you have to sleep. Even (as I mention below) when you don’t feel like it). Make time to see your dentist and your GP if you need to; that’s all part of self-care but we are usually the worst at sorting our own problems. You’ll need to put extra effort into your social life. Plan meetups in advance, because I promise you that when your day off comes, you’ll feel too tired to plan something last-mintue then, unless your friends and family drag you out. Give yourself things to look forward to, but be kind to yourself if you decide you aren’t up to them.  This can be a whole other layer of challenging when your friends are either also working hideous rotas, or are married with kids/live on the other end of the country etc; sometimes I look back at when we were all 16 and could just meet up without any effort and wonder at the difference. Is medicine fulfilling?I love doing what I do. I don’t find it horrible working sets of nights or picking up that second long day in the week because when I’m at work, I’m not miserable with what I’m doing. Sure, sometimes it’ll be a stressful day (I arrive in A&E and 9 patients are waiting for me to see them, it doesn’t get better the entire shift) or I’ll be stuck with a colleague who stresses me out and makes me feel inadequate. But on the whole, most of the time, I leave work with a feeling that I’ve done OK, good even. And I don’t dread going back the next day. Even though I’ve got a lot to learn, and I still feel nervous with my ever-increasing responsibilities, I enjoy being ‘clinical me’. I’d say it’s  fulfilling. But medicine can take over your life, not just when it makes you miserable and you hate your placement or colleagues (and boy, can it make you miserable if that’s the case!), but also even when you like what you do. Because working all those shifts, and staying late, can really affect how much time you have to spend being you. The ‘ouside of hospital’ you. It’s just physically much harder to stay in contact with friends and family when you are working all hours of the night or day. When you have projects, and audits, and exams outside of work (which you will do, there’s a ton of stuff behind the scenes which you have to do in your own time in order to continue doctoring), they also take up your precious free time in ways that your 9-5 colleagues don’t have to deal with. I’ve been very lucky; I’ve generally enjoyed my placements, and worked well with my colleagues, and found medicine itself to be really fulfilling. It’s not all nice things; there’s the mundane and the stresfful, but overall I’ve enjoyed it more often than not. I know that’s not true for everyone, and I think how fulfilling it is can depend a lot on finding the right specialities for you. I’m still working on finding the right balance, but I’ve got a good idea. It’s not that medicine isn’t fulfilling for me, but rather that because it is, it can take over your life. It’s because what you do feels important. Because you enjoy it. Because you care. Because you want to be a better doctor. Medicine can take up a lot of time and energy, and it’s hard to carve out a space in your life that it doesn’t take over. It’s something we all have to work on. I love my job, but In the long run, neglecting my out-of-medicine-life wouldn’t be fulfilling. You can be happy in your job but still feel unfilfilled in your life outside of it; if you let friendsips fall by the wayside, or neglect relationships. If you don’t have kids but want them, or have kids and feel you are never there for them. If you miss important life events for work and feel you are never there for the people you love. If you give up the passions in your life that make you happy.  You can still love your job but miss out on the other things that make you happy. There’s no easy choice; you have to find a balance that works for you. It’s one of the reasons I am not planning to stay on in paediatrics, for example. I love the job despite the stresses, but the timetable decimated my personal life; the idea of combinign that with exams made me realise I’d be happy with my job but miserable that I got to do little else. In the long run, I don’t think it would make me happy. Because happiness is more than just enjoying what you do at work. It’s also having time and energy to do the other things that make you happy. So I’ll have to work to find a balance that suits me.

One of them eventually deals with change successfully and writes what he has learned on the maze walls for you to discover. You'll learn how to anticipate, adapt to and enjoy change and be ready to change quickly whenever you need to.

3. Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World
One of the most valuable skills in our economy is becoming increasingly rare. If you master this skill, you'll achieve extraordinary results.
Deep Work is an indispensable guide to anyone seeking focused success in a distracted world.
'Deep work' is the ability to focus without distraction on a cognitively demanding task. Coined by author and professor Cal Newport on his popular blog Study Hacks, deep work will make you better at what you do, let you achieve more in less time and provide the sense of true fulfilment that comes from the mastery of a skill. In short, deep work is like a superpower in our increasingly competitive economy.
And yet most people, whether knowledge workers in noisy open-plan offices or creatives struggling to sharpen their vision, have lost the ability to go deep - spending their days instead in a frantic blur of email and social media, not even realising there's a better way.
A mix of cultural criticism and actionable advice, DEEP WORK takes the reader on a journey through memorable stories -- from Carl Jung building a stone tower in the woods to focus his mind, to a social media pioneer buying a round-trip business class ticket to Tokyo to write a book free from distraction in the air -- and surprising suggestions, such as the claim that most serious professionals should quit social media and that you should practice being bored.
Put simply: developing and cultivating a deep work practice is one of the best decisions you can make in an increasingly distracted world and this book will point the way.
4. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing
Marie Kondo will help you declutter your life with her new major Netflix series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo.
Transform your home into a permanently clear and clutter-free space with the incredible KonMari Method. Japan's expert declutterer and professional cleaner Marie Kondo will help you tidy your rooms once and for all with her inspirational step-by-step method.
The key to successful tidying is to tackle your home in the correct order, to keep only the things you really love and to do it all at once – and quickly. After that for the rest of your life you only need to choose what to keep and what to discard.
The KonMari Method will not just transform your space. Once you have your house in order you will find that your whole life will change. You can feel more confident, you can become more successful, and you can have the energy and motivation to create the life you want. You will also have the courage to move on from the negative aspects of your life: you can recognise and finish a bad relationship; you can stop feeling anxious; you can finally lose weight.
Marie Kondo's method is based on a 'once-cleaned, never-messy-again' approach. If you think that such a thing is impossible then you should definitely read this compelling book.
5. The Road Less Traveled: A New Psychology of Love, Values, and Spiritual Growth
Confronting and solving problems is a painful process which most of us attempt to avoid. Avoiding resolution results in greater pain and an inability to grow both mentally and spiritually. Drawing heavily on his own professional experience, Dr M. Scott Peck, a psychiatrist, suggests ways in which facing our difficulties - and suffering through the changes - can enable us to reach a higher level of self-understanding. He discusses the nature of loving relationships: how to distinguish dependency from love; how to become one's own person and how to be a more sensitive parent.
This is a book that can show you how to embrace reality and yet achieve serenity and a richer existence. Hugely influential, it has now sold over ten million copies - and has changed many people's lives round the globe. It may change yours.

The book demonstrates compellingly why self-esteem is basic to psychological health, achievement, personal happiness, and positive relationships. Branden introduces the six pillars-six action-based practices for daily living that provide the foundation for self-esteem-and explores the central importance of self-esteem in five areas: the workplace, parenting, education, psychotherapy, and the culture at large. 20. The Art of War by Sun Tzu, Thomas Cleary
Compiled more than two thousand years ago by a mysterious warrior-philosopher, The Art of War is still perhaps the most prestigious and influential book of strategy in the world today, as eagerly studied in Asia by modern politicians and executives as it as been by military leaders since ancient times. As a study of the anatomy of organizations in conflict, The Art of War applies to competition and conflict in general, on every level from the interpersonal to the international. Its aim is invincibility, victory without battle, and unassailable strength through understanding of the physics, politics, and psychology of conflict.
This translation presents the classic from the point of view of its background in the great spiritual tradition of Taoism, the origin of psychology, science, and technology in East Asia and the source of the insights into human nature that underlie this most revered of handbooks for success. Translated from a standard collection of commentaries on Sun Tzu's text by eleven interpreters, the work has been edited by Thomas Cleary to bring out the meaning of the principles of strategy. In addition, the translator provides an extensive introduction discussing the content and background of the book.
