1. The thing that got you hooked on hockey

i am a lifelong member of the 'being insane about sports' club in that i still have a poster of my baseball team's 2005 roster hanging over my bed & used to get SO pissed in middle school when boys in my class had incorrect college basketball opinions. but hockey was just? never on my radar?? due to the south texas of it all. then i went to college for broadcast in new york state & made friends with some guys majoring in sports broadcast and was like wait ....... there's a sport they talk about that i can't talk about (i loved knowing more about sports than boys so this was a serious blow) (football doesnt count i decided when i was a kid that i didn't care about football therefore its not real) & a friend of mine with whom i watched the world series was like no i've got you i can get you into hockey. i realize now she just wanted an excuse to proselytize about the new york islanders.

but anyway yeah!! i stuck with being fond of them because of her & then added the stars because as a Texan i had to root for them & also tyler seguin hooked me. i was a casual fan until there were absolutely No Sports in 2020 & i accidentally stumbled upon hockeyblr just in time to get hyper mega insane about hockey before the bubble playoffs.

2. Your first ever fandom friend

like any normal well adjusted person i feel weird calling someone my friend even if we're friendly because what if they don't actually like me (again this is normal & well adjusted behavior) that said tanya txstars was the first hashtag mutual i had in starsblr whomst i feel like i talked to via the tags!!

3. The jersey you would most like to own

wait have i ever mentioned that i own a mooterus jersey. it was like eighty dollars off depop because its a) womens cut & b) a size small which means that while it does technically fit, my tits stop it from looking like, you know, a jersey should look on the human body. so i'd love one that i can wear without feeling ridiculous!! through logan stankoven all things are possible!!! i'm generally a jersey thrifter so i do love the $16 tyler jersey i found but im sure one day ill bite the bullet and buy a non-secondhand otter jersey.

4. YOUR player (you only get ONE so choose wisely)

unfortunately goalies are inherently endearing & then on top of that he's also insane in the most confounding way possible so jake oettinger is My Guy whether he likes it or not

5. A pairing that deserves more fic

as someone who has written just over half of the robotter fic out there in the world: please put more robotter fic out there in the world. also i think robo & otter both deserve to fuck otter's goalie partner. also also it's not technically a pairing but i think we as a people need to embrace delly's clear & evident love for throuples and start sticking him in other peoples relationships. it's what he would want <3

6. Your favourite on-ice moment

jason robertson laying flat on his back on the ice after finishing his first career hat trick lives in my head rent free btw. if you even care. it just plays on a fucking loop up there. also the the dellymiro delly's first goal celly. also also that time those flames fans tried to actually curse jake midgame. like on the one hand what the fuck but on the other hand i actually admire that kind of dedication yk

1. The thing that got you hooked on hockey

oghhh long story for Sure. i became like. distantly enamored with it watching the bruins with my dad/brother during the 2010-11 playoffs like that and soccer were the only sports i could bother watching. then in 2019? i re-read check please, became obsessed with it on that read through, started following the players some characters were based off of - namely sid and segs. then segs lead me down a path of delusion and insanity forever. so like. either the 2011 bruins cup run, check please, or tyler seguin.

2. Your first ever fandom friend

was trying to think of tumblr moots but ! technically predates my hockeyblr era by a couple yrs. met @stickypucky through. s. stephen johns discord/minecraft server. in 2020! i think!

3. The jersey you would most like to own

it feels sacrilegious that i dont own a roope or robo or otter jersey?? so any of theirs. Need. would also kill for a mooterus jersey sorry that design fucked

listen. i agree with 2124. u all might expect me to say 424. however. i would pay the first person to write 455 or 42455 a billion dollars. i need harls hero worship turning into "oh hes a bitch and i like him so much" ness. i would cry tears of joy .

6. Your favourite on-ice moment

OKAY . niche roopemiro moment i am abt to throw at u. first thing that came to mind was when they had a FLOP ASS zone entry moment and miro just barrels straight into brick wall roope and they have to giggle abt it from last season. it was one of my first gifs and ik there are better sets of it but. here's mine. sooo pathetic and stupid and uncharacteristic of their perfectly in sync asses.

Does Otter have any superstitions/rituals?

(Need to know for a throwaway line in a fic I'm writing, so thought I'd call upon your expertise 🙏)

yeah!!! so jake’s always been pretty vocal about not being That Superstitious. he likes to talk about how he’s the most normal goalie most of his other teammates have ever played with & not having a ton of crazy superstitions is part of that for him.

‘ "I'm pretty laid back, in general," Oettinger said. "I like to hang out with the guys and be amongst the group. I don't isolate myself on the road or on game days with superstitions. I have a couple of things I do, but it's nothing out of the ordinary that you wouldn't see from a forward or a defenseman." (x)’

honestly i’d say that’s a pretty accurate read on himself. he’s self aware!!! jake doesn’t have no superstitions — he stopped using his blackout mask with the blackout jerseys when they won with a different mask in the blackout jerseys, has worn his skates for years, uses the same glove he used in college, is weird about new pads, etc etc etc. but gear stuff definitely falls in line w normal hockey player/general athlete level superstition.

all that said he does definitely have at least one Big Ritual he’s publicly talked about — he taps whatever period it is on the boards with his stick during stoppages, and then again on the net with his water bottle during shorter stoppages. this goes into ot & the shootout too. iirc @oetter keeps track of this so if you want better details i’d go ask her! you can find the footage of him Revealing this ritual in this video the nhl put out & in the specific quote in the caption of the gifset i made from it.

so if you want to reference one i’d use that!! or else talk about his rabid avoidance of seeming too superstitious as a superstition in & of itself.
