I Owe You One
Pairing: Nalu
Word Count: 1,737
I haven’t written in AGES. I forgot how much I enjoyed this. Anyway, I hope you like this little story 🙈 And yes, kids can be really cruel sometimes.
“Look! Natsu is playing with his little doll again!”
“It’s not a doll! It’s a dragon!” Natsu defended himself, but it all fell on deaf ears as all the kids in the playground laughed at him.
He was used to it, though. Ever since his first day of elementary school about six months ago, the second graders had decided to pick on him. He did not quite understand why he was their target, he always tried to stay out of trouble, as his foster parents told him to.
The older kids took his precious toy -a red dragon his late father had given him before passing away- and started playing around with it, tossing it to each other and raising it above their heads so Natsu couldn’t grab it.
“Give it back!” He yelled while chasing his bullies in a fruitless attempt of getting the dragon back. The rest of the kids in the playground laughed at the desperate look in Natsu’s face, all but one little girl: Lucy Heartfilia. The cutest girl in all of first grade. She was very quiet and very smart, often spending her time alone in a corner with her eyes glued to a book, although half of the kids in her grade barely knew how to read.
She never said anything, but the torture Natsu had to go through every day during recess did not go unnoticed by her. She always believed the way he was treated was unfair, but she was too shy to ever say anything. She watched from her usual spot how the group of second graders taunted the pink haired boy and she couldn’t help but feel bad.
“If you want it just come and get it, Pinky!” The leader of the pack said as he threw the red dragon to his friend.
“Please! Just don’t destroy it!”
“Why? You could just tell your dad to buy you a new one! Oh wait… you don’t have one!”
That did it. Lucy watched as Natsu’s expression turned from desperate to dark, and how, while everyone was too busy laughing at the bully’s cruel remark, Natsu approached him and punched him on the face.
Everyone fell silent, and Natsu stepped back with wide eyes, as if just realizing what he had done. After getting over the shock, the main bully clenched his jaw and fists in anger as he and his friends got closer to Natsu.
Everyone stepped back as the boys launched at him. They stood frozen while listening to the smaller kid’s cries. Lucy watched horrified. Enough was enough. She ran up to the boys and yelled at them to stop, grabbing the back of the shirt of one of the bullies and trying to pull him back. After deeming this strategy futile, she decided to kick the bully on his side. The little girl had never liked violence, but she believed it was necessary in this situation. She watched as the older boy bent over in pain.
After hearing all the ruckus, the teacher approached the playground. Once she realized what was going on, she rushed to separate the fight. The four bullies, Natsu, and even Lucy were sent to the principal’s office -who was surprised to see the blonde in trouble. After a talk with the parents, the four second-graders were suspended for a week.
“Thanks for what you did back there, I guess I owe you one.” Murmured the little boy as the pair of first-graders got out of the principal’s office with their guardians.
“It was nothing. That’s what friends are supposed to do, right?” She smiled. Natsu’s face brightened at hearing those words; he didn’t have any friends or anyone to talk to ever since he had to move to this town with his new foster parents.
“I get a girlfriend and she’s cute? Alright!” He said, not really thinking of what he was saying or how it affected the receiver, who was blushing furiously.
He was wearing a bright smile, showing all of his teeth. Lucy had never seen him so cheerful, it suits him, she thought.
After that day, Natsu and Lucy had become best friends. They were always together, and their classmates constantly teased them saying that they were boyfriend and girlfriend, which Lucy always denied with a blush while Natsu proudly stated that it was true, as he didn’t quite understand the difference between a girlfriend and a friend who happens to be a girl.
Everything was great, until the last day of first grade, when Lucy told Natsu she was moving away.
“We are leaving Sunday. My dad just told me last night.”
“But why!?” Natsu couldn’t believe it, this was his only friend!
“He got a job in Magnolia. I tried changing his mind but he wouldn’t listen… I’ll never forget you, Natsu” She whispered, tears falling from her eyes.
“I’ll never forget you either, Lu.” he wrapped his arms around her in a tight embrace. “Thanks for being my first ever girlfriend.”
Lucy chuckled and hugged him back, “You’re welcome.”
12 years later
“Truth or dare, Lucy?” Asked Cana from her seat at the edge of the bed.
“Ummm, truth.”
“Why did you break up with your ex?” Asked Juvia, the newest member of the group. All the girls had known each other since middle school, but they had just met Juvia when they started college a few months ago.
“Actually I don’t have an ex. I’ve never had a boyfriend.” Confessed Lucy, a hint of red dusting her pale cheeks.
This came as a surprise for the bluenette, though not so much for the other girls who had grown up with Lucy and seen how picky she was when it came to boys.
“You have to have had a fling or something at least, right!?”
“Well, there was this one guy” Lucy let out a breathy laugh as she recalled the closest she’s been to having a boyfriend. She told the girls about the shy little boy with weird coloured hair and a golden smile.
“That’s so adorable!” Gushed Mira, who was a hopeless romantic. “Have you heard of him since then?”
“No. I tried to find him when I got my first phone but I couldn’t find anything. He was my first best friend.” Lucy looked down, a nostalgic smile on her face.
“Maybe he’s dead.” Shrugged Cana, only to be shoved by Erza.
“Ignore her.” Said the redhead while sending Cana a dirty look, who returned the gesture. After seeing Lucy’s expression turn from nostalgic to worried, she attempted to change the subject, “You know, we are out of popcorn. Who’s up for going out to buy more?”
“I’ll go.” Lucy smiled, though the look in her eyes made it obvious it wasn’t genuine. Juvia, Levy, and Mira began to stand up to accompany her, but Lucy shook her head. “It’s okay. It’ll just take like ten minutes.”
The blonde got her things and got out of the dorm building. 10 P.M. Not too late for any of the stores nearby to be closed, but late enough for the moon to be shining high in the sky. There weren’t a lot of people out and about, just the occasional student heading to a frat party or out for a late night snack.
She couldn’t help but think of Natsu. Cana’s comment got to her. How is it that after all these years she had never heard from him? She couldn’t find him in social media at all, and none of the old classmates she had contact with had heard anything from him after he moved at the end of fourth grade. She wondered if he was moved to another foster home. Had someone adopted him? Did he run away? Is he on the streets right now? Did he join a secret cult where they have to sacrifice animals as part of the initiation ritual?
Lucy’s overactive imagination was getting the best of her, and, before she could even comprehend, she felt someone else putting their arm on her shoulder. Before she could react, the person got close to their ear and whispered, “This guy’s been following you for like 5 blocks. Just pretend we are together.”
The young girl didn’t know how to react. She had never been in a situation like this before and she didn’t know if she should believe the person who, by the tone of voice and the amount of weight she felt on her shoulder, she assumed was a guy. She turned her head slightly to the side and looked back secretively. Undeniably, she saw a sketchy-looking man behind them. She looked up to see the much taller man beside her; he was looking straight ahead and his head was covered with a bright green hoodie. Although she couldn’t see his face, his way of holding her and walking did not make him look like he was out to hurt her. Not to mention, she figured no criminal would be as stupid as to wear such bright clothing when they are about to commit a felony.
After a block, the man who had been following her seemed to have given up on attempting anything, because they saw him turning the other way while dragging his feet frustratedly. After making sure that he was out of sight, the guy next to Lucy let go of her.
“Thank you for-” Lucy settled in front of the stranger and looked up, finally being able to see his face. He looked awfully familiar but… it couldn’t be, could it? She watched as the handsome man’s countenance changed from a soft, carefree smile to an expression she couldn’t quite comprehend; His mouth was slightly agape and his eyes looked at her in… disbelief? The blonde caught a glimpse of the salmon coloured hair popping out of his hoodie and all doubts were vanished from her mind. Natsu. He looked exactly the same as he did all those years ago, just more… mature. She couldn’t believe it. What was he doing here? What are the odds that she finally found him when she was least expecting it?
“Thanks for what you did back there.” She beamed with tears threatening to fall from her eyes.
Natsu looked at her in awe, and showed her that golden smile that was so undeniably… him.
“I told you I owed you one.”

Day 1: Smile
Word Count: 326
Rating: K
Just a short little drabble for the first day of fluff week :)
“She’s got your nose!” Pointed out Natsu as he and Lucy looked at the 4D ultrasound of their baby. They had just gotten back from the doctor’s appointment where they had seen their baby girl for the first time. The couple was amazed at how… real it looked. They could really see her face before she was even born and she looked perfect.
“She will probably look a lot like me. You know how strong the Heartfilia genes are.” Lucy smirked. They were both sitting on their bed, from where they had not moved ever since they arrived to their apartment, too entranced with the picture of their daughter to move an inch.
“I hope she does look like you.” Natsu looked at his wife fondly, then back to the ultrasound. “I didn’t notice before; it looks like she’s smiling.”
“Oh yeah!” Exclaimed Lucy. “I hope she gets your smile.” She muttered.
“Huh?”
The blonde looked up, realizing she had said her last statement out loud. “It’s my favorite thing about you. I really hope she gets that from you.” She explained in a soft voice, looking at her husband in the eyes, who returned an appreciative smile.
“Nah. I would be blessed if she got all features from you… but, now that I think about it— the more she looks like you, the more boys are going to want something with her.” The soon-to-be dad cringed at the thought. “I’d rather she be ugly than have that happen.” Lucy couldn’t help but laugh at his foolish realization. Natsu looked back at his wife and smiled softly at her reaction.
He laid next to Lucy again, resting his head on her shoulder and wrapping an arm around her protruding stomach.
“Who am I kidding?” Stated Natsu as the couple continued admiring the ultrasound. “There’s no way she’s going to be anything but beautiful.”
“Yeah… no matter who she looks like, she’s going to be perfect.”

1, 3, 14 pour Tanuma/Natsume :)
From the 21 otp questions meme! Sorry this took so long, I’m getting over an illness at the moment but these were awesome questions, thank you!
1. If you had to change the pairing’s very first meeting, how would you change it? 3. What is your favorite AU/trope/prompt idea for this pairing? 14. Is there a pairing that you think rivals them?
1. If you had to change the pairing’s very first meeting, how would you change it?
However unlikely, I really really want them to have met previously as children. I’m a talking a very brief encounter, which Natsume might have trouble even recalling but which Tanuma would turn over and over in his head for years after. I feel like I maybe(?) read a fic along these lines where they met at a temple when they were kids so if that’s your idea I’m sorry for shamelessly expanding on it and please link me to your fic! But how I’d imagine it would be as follows: little Natsume gets carted along to a family function by foster-parents-du-jour who don’t really want him there (similar to how Shigeru first found him). So he’s kind of wandering these temple grounds and making himself scarce, and he stumbles into this other boy sitting sort of hunched over beneath a very large very old tree. And up in the branches of the tree, watching all this, is a very intent, very hungry youkai (which possibly can’t come down out of the tree, it’s hallowed ground and whatnot). And little Tanuma here’s got a horrible headache, his forehead pressed against knobbly little knees trying not to be sick, and he just about jumps out of his skin when this other kid just bursts out of nowhere, yelps instead of introducing himself, then grabs his wrists and starts yanking him away from the tree like it’s on fire. And then little Natsume proceeds to haul him to his feet, steer him out from under the tree and over to the nearest temple building, but not before pausing to deliver a sharp “stay away!” back up into the tree branches. And little Tanuma just gapes, and little Natsume just gapes right back for a long moment, still holding onto Tanuma’s arms. Finally he blurts out a quick, “stay inside, you’ll feel better, don’t go near that tree again,” before excusing himself and taking off again. And Tanuma’s feeling too poorly to go after him or argue, but when he does go inside he feels much better. And he can’t get the encounter out of his head for years to come, wondering what that other boy saw, where he is now, if they’re the same. And he doesn’t immediately put it together when they meet again in high school, but when he does it takes quite awhile before he works up the nerve to ask Natsume if he remembers that day.
3. What is your favorite AU/trope/prompt idea for this pairing?
A perennial favorite trope for these two is just. Peaceful, idyllic fluff where they’re free to be Dorks In Love and neither of them has to be stressed out about anything, I can literally never get enough of that shit because god do they deserve it. But. The fics that are nearest to my heart are ones involving either of them being Very Gentle with the other during instances of Bad Brain Stuff. It’s really interesting with these two because I think they both generally have a pretty good intuition about when the other’s having a tough time, but they are really lousy at actually communicating which can just compound the issue, and that’s true in multiple instances in canon. But there’s a reason that there’s an abundance of fic featuring Tanuma being very soft and patient when Natsume’s under bombardment from anxiety or past traumas. And, of course the literal saved-you-from-a-horrible-death kind of fics, but usually the angsty brain stuff is pretty inextricable from the life-threatening situational fics. Another point strongly in the favor of the hurt-comfort trope in fics is the fact that Tanuma gets to feel like he’s doing something, like he can’t punch a youkai in the nose for Natsume’s sake but he’s got a first aid kit and a comfortable bed and empathy in spades when Natsume needs him.
Rarer and vastly underrated, though, are fics where it’s Natsume helping Tanuma through his own issues. He’s got like. Textbook anxiety symptoms, probably doesn’t do well in crowds, and his self-esteem’s (canonically) in the negatives— as of the Sasame arc Natsume’s only really just realized how deeply the self worth thing runs, and every time in canon Natsume’s ever tried to tell him “stop doing stupid stuff, I care about you, you idiot,” Tanuma’s just like *blink-blink-does-not-compute* “ok, see you at school, bye now—“ And Natsume understands so many of the things Tanuma struggles with, isolation, loneliness, feeling worthless and not really having anyone around to contradict that sentiment. And I just. I am so, so here for Tanuma feeling loved and cared for (speaking of, thank you taizi for my life).
Oh, and real quick, another great idea that needs more fic: Tanuma actually getting to become a badass exorcist. Actually just. Give this boy more fics in general because he deserves the whole world, and specifically give us exorcists who are decidedly not the two stellar examples of humanity we’ve got in canon. But I digress.
14. Is there a pairing that you think rivals them?
Ahh, nishinatsu, for starters. This is largely @taizi‘s fault in terms of the vast body of excellent work they’ve produced I have always always always been weak for loud bombastic ray-of-goddamned-sunshine characters paired with the quiet characters. That’s most often my go-to ship in any given fandom, and even as a side character Nishimura’s intuition about what Natsume needs or wants is so spot-on, and that of course is true of Kitamoto as well.
The other, much weirder ship, and this is ENTIRELY TAIZI’S FAULT, is Tanuma and Shibata. It just. Since they referred to it as a soulmates ship in empty hands, it just stuck in my head and refused to leave me alone, because I wanted to understand how that would even work because they’re so radically different, and tai’s got a wip which I love exploring the dynamic of this weird little ship that would require so much energy and effort from both parties.

The Color of Sound
I found this while looking for prompts and fell in love with the idea. Hope you enjoy ☺️
Lucy Heartfilia loved to read. Ever since she was a little girl, she would spend day and night in the Heartfilia Mansion library. She read books of romance, adventure, mythology, mystery, but her favorite books to read were memoirs. Specifically, memoirs of Bonded Souls: Two people who would be born with opposite defects and heal once they found each other. She longed for the moment when she would find her own soulmate to complete her, though sometimes she felt it was futile.
She could sense by the way people looked at her that everyone pitied her. She didn’t blame them, though. Most people met their soulmate by age eighteen, and Lucy was already twenty. Not to mention, she was a rare case. Most people were born without a left eye, or a right leg, and waited to meet someone without a right eye, or a left leg. However, Lucy was not missing a part of her body, but a sensation. What could possibly be the opposite of deafness? Lucy knew everyone around her believed her soulmate was dead, and she wondered about that too sometimes.
Nonetheless, there was one factor that didn’t let her hopes die: If her soulmate was dead, she would’ve gotten his defect. Aside from being deaf, there was nothing out of the ordinary with her body or senses. This meant there was a possibility her soulmate was still alive and just as anxious to meet her as she was to meet him. So, she kept hoping and praying that her fateful day would come soon.
“You are going to love this place, Lev. They have the best coffee.” Spoke Lucy in sign language as they approached Fairy Tail Cafe, a new coffee shop that just opened up a little outside of campus.
“I do hear a lot about it. Mira works here, right?” Said Levy, while using sign language.
“Yeah. Lisanna and Elfman too. Their grandpa owns the place.”
The family-owned business was really nice; a cozy little cafe bookstore that always seemed quite busy. Ever since its grand opening, Lucy would spend her afternoons reading books and drinking lattes in the corner.
The two girls sat down on a table after ordering drinks and started catching up. They had been best friends since middle school, but Levy studied in a different university thirty minutes away, which meant the girls couldn’t see each other as often as they’d like.
They had been talking for about an hour when the door opened. Lucy spotted a blue-furred (what?) dog. At first she wondered who would bring a dog in a cafe, until she looked up to see a tall man, about her age, with pink hair and sunglasses. Before she could even process, her stomach started feeling fluttery, and she could start to hear a distant cacophony that seemed to get closer by the second. It was annoying, and the blonde was starting to get a headache. After about thirty seconds, the sounds started dispersing, and her head felt lighter. It was then she realized that she could listen. She could hear the sound of the coffee machine, she could hear the sound of Mira’s voice as she stood behind the counter— She had a really sweet voice, and Lucy couldn’t believe she had never heard it before. She could hear the rustling of sheets as people reading books turned the pages. She could hear the soft pop music playing in the background, even though it was pretty low. She could hear the worried tone on Levy’s voice as she sat closer to Lucy to give her a hug.
“Lucy?” Levy was very confused. She had seen how Lucy suddenly covered her ears with the palms of her hands, and how she had started crying out of nowhere. “Is everything okay? Talk to me.” She spoke in sign language for Lucy.
“Y-yes.” She said hesitantly. “I can hear.” Her voice was a little incomprehensive. There were very few times where she had actually used it, after all. But she had been practicing her speech for about three years now, knowing that the time to meet her soulmate was possibly coming close. She knew how to say a fair amount of sentences, though she didn’t practice conversing with a lot of people, as she was self-conscious about her voice and let very few people hear her.
“You what!?” Levy stood up from her seat so fast the chair fell down, drawing people’s attention, including Mira’s, who looked over to them with concern. “Lucy can hear! She can hear!” She exclaimed in between sobs as Mira rushed to their table.
“She what!? Lucy, congrats! Who is it? Who’s the lucky man?”
But Lucy was too preoccupied looking at the pink haired man, who had taken off his glasses and looked at her with tears in his eyes. She stood up from her seat, walking over to him as he did the same. They stood there, staring at each other, for a while. Turns out the opposite of deafness was blindness, according to the universe. Neither party could believe it. She could listen. He could see. Finally, for the first time in their entire lives, they felt complete.
“Hi.” The guy finally said, with a grin that covered half of his face. Lucy decided she had never seen a more genuine and beautiful smile. “I’m Natsu.”
“Hi.” She beamed back. “I am Lucy.”
Natsu wondered why her speech was so peculiar for a split second, but then remembered how her friends were yelling about her being able to hear, so he guessed her defect was being deaf.
“Do you… want to get out of here?” He said, signaling to the door. “We can talk and get to know each other.” He talked while making gestures with his hands, hoping she understood.
Lucy nodded with a smile. She got back to her table to gather her things and say goodbye to her friends, who were smirking despite the tears in their eyes.
****
“You know sign language?” Asked Lucy while sitting next to Natsu on the bench in the park.
“I know a little bit. Do you understand people when they speak? Or would it be easier if I used gestures?” Natsu asked kindly, still trying his best to make comprehensive hand gestures.
“I read English. I understand a lot, but some things are confusing.”
Natsu nodded, and they stayed silent for a couple seconds until he had an idea.
“I know! What if I help you with your speech and you help me with different colors? I always wanted to know what they looked like.” He stated sheepishly.
****
“Yellow.” Said Lucy as she pointed to one of the throw pillows on her couch. After their fateful encounter, they had agreed on meeting the next day to start “coaching” each other. Lucy invited Natsu to her place for lunch and he had spent the entire afternoon teaching her new words and their pronunciation. Truth be told, he was learning words that he didn’t even know existed too.
After hours, they moved on to teach Natsu the different names for colors. He was fascinated to find out what the colors that he always heard people mention actually looked like. So far, he believed his favorite was red; it was vibrant, and never failed to catch his attention whenever he had seen it on his 28 hours of having vision.
“Wait, that’s the color of your hair.”
“Yeah! Oh, and pink.” She said as she pointed to his hair. “My favorite color.”
He always wondered what he looked like. His friends and family often described him and never forgot to tease him for his unusual hair color. He knew most people had brown, black, blonde, or red hair, so he didn’t know how to feel about his. When he saw himself on a mirror for the first time yesterday, he didn’t really like his hair color. But, suddenly, he didn’t think it was that bad anymore.
They spent hours every day teaching each other and hanging out, both really enjoying each other’s presence. They found out their favorite things to do were to watch television and walk around the lake, as these were experiences that they had never been able to enjoy to the fullest until now.
After a month of hanging out almost every single day, they decided to start dating. Even though they knew they were meant to be together, they wanted to take things slow and really get to know each other before making things official.
They couldn’t be happier. Lucy loved Natsu’s goofiness and happy-go-lucky personality. She also loved Happy, his guide dog, who really liked to mess with her and sometimes got on her nerves, but they shared a strong bond despite everything.
Natsu loved Lucy. There was no other way to describe it. In the short amount of time he had gotten to spend with her, he discovered how amazing she was. She was beautiful, and smart, and cheerful, and kind. He often wondered what he had done to deserve such a perfect soulmate, but he wasn’t complaining.
After a year of dating, Natsu had finally decided to pop the question.
“You ready, man?” Asked Gray, Natsu’s best friend… and worst enemy.
“As ready as I’ll ever be, I guess.”
“You know she’s gonna say yes! What are you so worried about?”
“I don’t know! It’s just all so... nerve-racking. Didn’t you feel that way when you proposed to Juvia?”
“A little bit. But, I guess it was so unplanned I didn’t really have time to be nervous. You know I proposed a week after I met her.”
“Yeah.” Natsu chuckled at the memory. “I remember. I guess getting back your thumb really made you commit.”
“Hey.” Replied Gray with fake solemness. “Imagine living your whole life without a right thumb. It’s not pretty. She knew the struggle.”
Natsu chuckled as he adjusted his tie. The plan was to take Lucy to a fancy restaurant for a romantic, candlelit dinner. After that, he would drive them to their favorite lake where they would lay and stargaze for a while until he decided that it was finally time to propose.
****
After hours of getting ready, Lucy was finally satisfied with her look. Natsu always did random romantic things like these, but it never ceased to excite her. She wore a red satin v-neck dress with a skater skirt that reached just above her knees, paired with some open-toed silver heels. She was checking herself on the mirror when she heard her phone ring.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Luce! Whatcha doing?”
“Just finished getting ready. Are you on your way?”
“Yeah. I’m just a couple of blocks down. I’ll be there in two—”
Before he could finish the sentence, Lucy heard the sound of screeching tires and a loud, lingering beep noise.
“Natsu? Natsu!?” The call had disconnected, she knew that, but in her moment of panic she did not care for logic. “Please answer me, Natsu!” She sobbed into the phone fruitlessly.
After a while, she heard the sound of sirens passing by, but the noise started sounding farther and farther away as her vision got blurrier by the second, until all sound was gone, and all she could see were the shadows of things that were once full of color.
The world had turned dark once again.

Puzzles
Decided to write a little nalu fluff of my favorite kind as a birthday present to myself 🥳 Hope you guys enjoy :)
“Natsu! Are you home?” Exclaimed Lucy as she entered the humble cottage she shared with Natsu and Happy. She beamed as she saw her dragon slayer enter the living room.
“Hey!” Natsu pecked his fiancee on the lips, a big grin on his face. “How was girls’ day?”
“It was great! Levy gave me this puzzle. The twins have already moved on to play with other things and she gave it to me so we can solve it.” On her hands Lucy held an all-white squared box. Natsu found the packaging peculiar, considering it didn’t even have a picture of what the puzzle was supposed to look like, but he didn’t give it much thought.
“You know I don’t like those things, Luce. They’re so hard!” He groaned.
“You’re just impatient.”
“You’re just smart. And I’m not.”
“Come on!” The blonde slumped her body dramatically, reaching out to grab Natsu’s hand. “It’ll be fun. Besides, you have the memory of a fish and this could help you. The twins solved it no problem. Are you telling me a pair of four year olds are smarter than you?” She teased her fiance, knowing well how to push his buttons.
“Of course not!... Ugh, fine.” He drawled.
“Alright!” Lucy’s smile covered half of her face, and she tried her best to keep herself from crying.
It definitely took Natsu more than it should’ve to finish the puzzle, but Lucy was not surprised. She had been pretending to help; looking for pieces and trying to fit them in the wrong spot on purpose. Any other time, Natsu would’ve probably called her bluff, but he was too focused to even notice.
“‘Congratulations! You are going to…’ What? I can’t…” Natsu muttered in confusion while looking around the table he was sitting on. After almost an hour, he had finally finished the puzzle. Well, for the most part. “Wait, Luce, the last pieces are missing.” His brows furrowed in frustration as he looked around for the last four missing pieces. When he stood up to look for them around the floor, Lucy took them out of her pocket and placed them in the puzzle. She looked at the completed picture in awe.
“Found them!” Exclaimed Lucy with a bright smile, tears threatening to escape.
Natsu turned his head back. Lucy seemed very excited for some reason, and Natsu looked at her quizzically while returning to the table. She nodded her head in the direction of the puzzle, and Natsu looked back at it.
Now completed, the picture the puzzle created was one of a white background with a bubble text in the center which read “Congratulations! You are going to be my Dad!” printed in a black, bold font.
Natsu was confused at first, until it hit him. He turned around so fast, it was surprising he didn’t get whiplash. He watched with wide eyes as his fiancee beamed up at him with tears in her eyes.
“You—?” Lucy nodded, not needing him to finish his sentence. “We—?” Lucy kept nodding, each time even faster, unable to stop grinning. “I’m... I’m going to be a dad!?” Natsu let out a sound that was a combination between a chuckle and a gasp. He picked Lucy up, who squealed and giggled, and spun her around. “I’m going to be a freaking dad!”

Family Day
Pairing: Nalu
Word Count: 1,280
Happy NaLu Day everyone!! Thought I’d do some nalu family fluff to celebrate :3
Also, thanks to my tumblr-less friend for helping me with my writer’s block. I hate you, idiot. ❤️
“Luna, please stay still so mommy can do your hair.” Sighed Lucy, trying to coax her daughter into sitting in front of her.
“But it’s boring” Drawled the five year old.
“Well, if you don’t sit then we are going to be late for Family Day. We don’t want to be late for that now, do we?”
The little girl’s eyes went wide as she hurried to sit on the floor with her back turned to her mother. Lucy smiled triumphantly as she began to brush Luna’s salmon colored locks.
Today was Family Day in Luna’s school, a day where parents spend the entire day with the kids in class and do a bunch of activities. The little girl had been talking about this day for weeks, excited about the fact that she could finally show her cool parents to her friends and teacher, according to her own words -- which made Natsu and Lucy feel really proud at knowing their daughter thought they were cool.
“Luce, you almost done?” Called Natsu from the bathroom.
“Yeah, just a second!” Answered the blonde as she finished placing two little star hair clips on each side of the front of Luna’s parted hair. “And we’re all done. You look beautiful, sweetie.” And she wasn’t lying. The independent little girl insisted on choosing what to wear for school herself the night before. Apprehensive as she was at letting her do this, Lucy thanked God when Luna finally decided on a white long sleeve skater dress with a collar. --She was glad the kindergartener didn’t get her sense of style from her father. Her salmon colored pigtails went well with the dress-- it was always hard to find clothing that would go well with the girl’s unusual hair color, and her gold flats complemented the accessories on her head.
After giving her daughter a kiss, Lucy stood and headed for the bathroom, where her husband was struggling to tie a tie in front of the mirror.
“Need any help?” Chuckled the blonde as she approached her husband.
“These things are way more complicated than they look” Natsu grumbled under his breath.
“Umm, no.” Drawled his wife. “You just have no patience.” She finished tying the tie effortlessly and Natsu gave her a dirty look while she smirked. “You look handsome.” She said as she eyed his business casual attire.
“You don’t look so bad yourself.” Natsu eyed his wife’s pale pink skater dress, similar to Luna’s, and white low heels with an approving look, which made Lucy blush. She smiled and got closer to Natsu, about to kiss him when a high pitched voice interrupted them.
“Mommy, Daddy, let’s go! You can kiss later!” The parents blushed and laughed at their daughter’s remark. Natsu approached the little girl and lifted her up, positioning her on his hip.
“Alright, pretty girl. Let’s go to school.”
“Finally!” Drawled the little girl dramatically. The parents chuckled as the little family went out of their home and started heading towards the elementary school.
The kindergarten classroom was filled with parents and enthusiastic little kids. The room was nicely decorated, with all of the kids’ works hanging on the walls, everything organized and clean, and a table full of snacks in the corner, where both Natsu and his daughter wanted to head immediately, but Lucy stopped them. The desks that were regularly part of the classroom where no longer there. Instead, there were chairs on the far back, where everyone was expected to sit, and the front was left clear of any furniture.
Luna instantly dragged her parents around the room to show them her pieces of art enthusiastically. She went on and on about how she’s always doing her work and gaining gold stars, and how her teacher was impressed with how the little girl would rather read a book instead of sleep like her other classmates during naptime. Lucy was very proud of hearing this, since her and Levy had made it their mission to teach Luna to read as soon as she turned four, and she was glad to know that her child loved reading as much as she did.
“Good morning, everyone!”
“Good morning, Miss Penelope!” Answered all the little kids at their teacher.
“I’m glad to see you all here! Please take a seat. Today, we have a lot of activities planned for everyone! We are going to have a lot of fun, right little ones?” All the kids cheered at their teacher’s words. Apparently, Luna was not the only one of her class very excited for this day.
After a little orientation, the day was filled with lots of activities. The parents and guardians had to introduce themselves and what they did for a living. The kids were fascinated at Natsu’s job as a firefighter, and at how Lucy created stories like the ones they read during storytime, which gave Luna even more reasons to think her parents were the coolest. They made arts and crafts, played Duck, Duck, Goose, went to the playground and had a three-legged race (parents against parents and kids against kids), which seemed like a fun idea until Luna was paired with a little boy, which made papa bear Natsu a bit irritable.
After naptime, when parents finally had a time to relax, Miss Penelope announced the last activity of the day: finger painting. Everyone was given a few pieces of paper and some paint. Luna shoved her hands in the paint and plastered them on the paper, leaving an imprint of her little hands on the paper. Lucy found it adorable and set it on the side to dry, planning to take it home and put it up on the refrigerator later.
“Wow, Daddy! You’re so good at this!” Said the kindergartener in awe at her father’s “work of art”, which consisted of two stick figures, a sun, a house, and a few trees.
“I’ll make sure to put this one on the refrigerator too.” Teased Lucy, to which Natsu smirked.
“You want me to teach you?” He asked his daughter, who eagerly nodded her head.
After being taught how to do random doodles with her fingers, Luna decided to do a painting of her own, without showing her parents until the very end to surprise them.
“Everyone done with their paintings?” All the kids nodded, including Luna who had just finished hers. “Alright, before we go, does anyone want to show their beautiful masterpieces to the class? Parents can participate too!”
Luna raised her hand avidly and was called on by her teacher.
“Okay, Luna, please show us your drawing and explain to us what it is.” Said Miss Penelope as she took a seat.
The Dragneel daughter turned around her painting to reveal two stick figures really close together, one with pink lines all around its head, and the other one with yellow paint attached to its head which reached its waist. Hearts were painted all around them. “This is my daddy, Natsu. And this is my mommy, Lucy.” She pointed to each stick figure respectively. “They’re kissing, because that’s what they do all the time.”
The parents stared wide eyed at their smirking little devil, their faces getting redder and redder with each of the smooching sounds and “ewws” that the other kids made.
“Oh, God.” Muttered Lucy, as she covered her face with the palms of her hands.
“Well, she’s not lying, is she?” Teased an amused Natsu with a smirk on his face, which only got bigger as Lucy nudged him.
Their first school Family Day was something, and they could not wait to do it all over again next year.

Don't you love it when Natsu just stares at her distractedly with a soft smile and a gentle gaze probably thinking why she looks hot when she's mad while Lucy rants her whole heart for the whole apartment to hear
