Okay so let’s go with Nikki and Kartik in their angsty verse. Can we just talk about how much I fucking cry over these two? Even though they’re in a similar situation in regards to their work, they both approach it so differently and are much better suited to different aspects of it. 

I always reckon that Kartik would be much better suited to be a researcher, finding bad people and doing that reconnaissance while Nikki would be better off fixing the animus and being a sickening weapons developer - as evidenced by her habit of taking things apart and putting them back together again. Irrespective of that. 

These two have totally different ways of coping in that they don’t. They start off as having good banter and going back and forth with each other and it slowly turns into love. More like, omg Nikki almost fucking died and I swallowed my heart 7 times over. I need to kiss her. Like they fell in love so fucking smoothly and have the least smooth way of dealing with it. 

But they’re so sweet for each other and as much as they slightly bicker about things and go back and forth, at the end of the day, Nikki’s boobs make for a good pillow and Kartik has really soft hair. 

Nikki also implicitly trusts Kartik with the more vulnerable parts of her, like even with if they weren’t together, she would allow him to see her upset, distressed, scared. They’ve known each other for so long that the other has a window into the darker sides of them and i think that’s both sad and brilliant. Canonically they haven’t even said I love you yet but I’ve planned ahead and i love them.
