Hey @rabbitbride, my Love Square aesthetic so as to not clog up your very pretty post with my musical BS. 

Yes, gather round, children, and let me tell you the tales of the time when you had to download your OTP playlists that other people made. Because a year ago, I made myself some Love Square FSTs. (and because I made them for myself, a solid third of the songs are, uh. Not in English.) 

The Ladynoir one was titled after a classic James Bond song. It opened with David Bowie, segued into early nineties rock. (a lot of culling went into this section!). It’s... fairly Gen X. The first half of definitely carries a common motif of urbanity, of cities, city life, cement and asphalt and the joy of the moment and the despair of seizing it because you know that it won’t last. It turns on the the love that you cannot give up on no matter how much it hurts you, and the second half of it focuses on the pain of an impossible relationship. Of refusing something good, of wanting something you know you can’t wish for. 

It ends on acceptance. And on nostalgia: 

Nowhere to be, nowhere to go / But there was nothing I would rather do / Just me and you and Shelby avenue 

The Adrinette one is softer. More up-beat too, and sadder. All songs are in major keys; there are surprisingly much drums and guitars, looking at it now. It starts with a spring-like piano and the sudden, gut-sinking, life-changing infationation, and carries on with the problem of secrets, of feelings you can’t express. It descends into the silent pain of miscommunication, of the invisible walls in a deep and sincere friendship when the core of it remains unspoken. And because I don’t think adrinette will happen pre-reveal, it has a transformation. It has a change of perspective, a revelation. And it ends with the quiet request: Consider me. 

The Ladrien one might be the one I was the least happy with and also the one that I like the most. It miiiight be because the pairing is strictly hypothetical because I have somewhat of a hard time seeing the relationship happening in canon, and so I went with the soundscape more than anything here. 

It’s twee, and it’s bittersweet, and it’s jubilant. Its first song is a cheerful fantasy which descends into resentful regret of the dreams that let you down. It’s got the mutual love unspoken.

The questions you know you’re not allowed to ask, the silence you both know you have to suffer.

It’s about the boy who sees his life transformed by the presence of a woman larger than life. It has the love that is impossible except for this one, sweet moment. And yes, I totally put “Nessun Dorma” there because I can and because he knows something that she doesn’t. He knows that one day, there might be a future for them after all. One day, she won’t have to be sad about it. 

I wouldn’t count the Marichat one because it is literally just the dumping place for sad songs I vaguely associate with the LS. Also, I have Feelings about marichat and its existence as 95% fanon that I won’t drag out here (dig through my meta tag if you really want to know). So sure enough: it’s resigned. It’s heartbreak. The ladrien one was bittersweet, but this is just bitter, period. This is where dreams of love went to die. Sure, come around and pick up the pieces of my heart that someone else left behind, if you want it that badly. You might as well. 

This one is the only one that can be called a playlist rather than a soundtrack; it’s not curated and it has no attempts at neither thematic nor musical coherency.

Hi @noire-pandora! Thank you for the ask, as always, my friend <3 After several versions of this with several pairings, I settled on Fenris and Rana. Hope you enjoy!

4: Which one tells the other not to stay up all night and which one stays up all night anyway?

There’s a very famous aria from the opera, Turandot, called ‘Nessun dorma.’ Its title translates to ‘no one sleeps’ in English. That’s pretty much the situation at Fenris and Rana’s house; they’re up at all hours.

Fenris was never good with sleeping; Hadriana hounded his sleep back in Minrathous, and living on the run led to light sleeping. But living with chronic pain from the brands really affects his sleep schedule. Some days, even his sleepshirt and the sheets bother them, so he’s up all day and then all night (it’s always worse at night). Is he exhausted? Constantly. He subsists on a series of naps, most days. Then enter Rana, the night owl.

Now he has someone to while the hours away with, someone who loves music and books and is willing to talk for hours on end about everything and nothing. Someone to keep him company, if the pain is bad. He appreciates that so much.

5: Which one tries to make food for the other but burns it all by accident and which one tells them that it’s okay and makes them both cookies?

Fenris doesn’t cook. At all. All foods prior to Rana’s arrival were bought premade or finger foods; he didn’t even use the kitchen, just the hearth in his room if he wanted to heat something up or make toast. So when he is in the kitchen, something’s bound to get burnt or have a disclaimer/apology attached. He has the best intentions, but he’s better with battle strategies than batter.

Rana’s the one that reassures him that it’s ok and then proceeds to pack up her cookie dough to bake off at the bakery. Most houses in Kirkwall—including hers and Fenris’s—don’t have an oven; all baking is done in the communal ovens at the bakery or bake house. So you can imagine how incredibly annoying it is to make the dough and carry everything to the baker’s in the rain.

24: Which one gives the other a piggyback ride when they’re tired?

Piggybacking in the El-Khoury household was abolished in the Proclamation of 9:37 Dragon. This was passed (unanimously by one person, aka Fenris) after both parties got tipsy, and Rana was shocked that Fenris had never had a piggyback ride. She offered to give him one, and they both went face-first into the floor after 3 steps and Fenris hurt his knee in the fall. Hence the Proclamation of 9:37 Dragon.

That being said, if Rana really couldn’t go on (or her shoes hurt), Fenris would give her a piggyback ride. He’d do anything for her.
