How‘s it going between Yua and you, Mako? You guys are quite the hot topic in the Fire Nation.
Harass my muse with questions about their relationships, their past, their future or anything else you’ve always wanted to know but never asked.
"We're a hot topic here too. Everyone seems more interested in my relationship with the princess than the cases I solve." Mako let out a soft huff at the thought of the press breathing down his neck. Especially when Yua was in town. "But things are good. There's talks about her becoming an ambassador for the Fire Nation here in Republic City. Meaning I would get to see her more. Which is nice. I'd like that actually."

Do you have anything in mind for yua and mako kids
I love this question!
Kind of, but not really. What I do know is that they'd probably have 5-7 kids. Three that are biological and the rest are adopted. Cause I have a headcanon that Mako would absolutely adopt as many kids as he can. Just because of how he grew up, he wants to give as many kids the best chance possible. Kids coming from all over the world, and from any nation. Mako sees a kid in need, and he tries to help.
At least one of their biological kids has to be an earthbender, in my mind. One of their adopted kids is definitely a waterbender. There's also at least one non-bender amongst them. They're just a mess of bending and abilities. It makes for an interesting time.
I also headcanon that the Fire Nation has a really good foster care/adoption system. In my mind, Izumi is seen as the mother of the Fire Nation, and she has worked to strengthen not only foreign relations, but also domestic ones. Especially for future generations. So Yua kind of has a deep need to help and protect.
Long story short, they'd have a big family. Not all blood related, but definitely chosen.

Chapters: 1/? Fandom: Avatar: Legend of Korra, Avatar: The Last Airbender Rating: Not Rated Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: Mako/Yua, Izumi's Daughter/Mako (Avatar) Characters: Mako (Avatar), Izumi's Daughter (Avatar), aka Yua, Korra (Avatar), Bolin (Avatar), Asami Sato, Lin Beifong Additional Tags: Slow Burn, they just meet, so nothing too serious yet, but mako is a nervous dumb, and yua has chaotic energy Summary:
What happens when a Republic City cop meets the princess from the Fire Nation? Will they get along, or will their ideals clash? Are their worlds too different, or are they actually a lot more alike than they thought? Only one way to find out.
This is a multi-chapter fic for Mako and Izumi's daughter (which I have named Yua). I heard that Bryke had planned to put her in the show, and ship her with Mako, and I just fell in love. So I'm indulging myself, cause no one else will.

Since Makua (Mako x Izumi’s daughter, Yua) is my newest ship obsession and it’s a super rare pair (so I have to create the content or there will be no content), I’m trying to decide on which fic to write next once I’m done with the current one. You can find a poll here, and I’ll appreciate some feedback. Thanks!

And what does Yua's family think of Mako as a boyfriend?
I was just thinking about this. I love you anon! Thank you for letting me talk about my babies.
Kojin (Yua’s father) really connects with Mako, because he was the son of a farmer, and came from humble beginnings. He sees Mako’s nervousness around the family and it reminds him of how he was with Izumi. Sees him as a good man that’s just trying to make something of himself. Though, he better stay out of the Fire Nation if he ever hurts Yua.
Izumi is mainly just happy that her daughter is happy. To her, Mako is an interesting young man. He definitely has trouble with expressing himself, but he might just be the perfect person to challenge her rambunctious and stubborn daughter. Funny how two closed off people tend to be the ones that get each other to open up.
Iroh plays the tough and protective brother card a lot when they start dating. Glaring at Mako, and being hesitant as he knows Mako’s dating history. But he’s willing to accept and help him if he’s willing to prove that he’s not that person anymore. That he’s grown as a person and is deserving of his sister.
Zuko sees Mako as a respectable young man. One that is trying is best to do the right thing. If he’ll care and protect his granddaughter with the same ferocity that he cares and protects his friends and brother, then he’ll fit into the family just fine.
Mai can only imagine the fights that the two of them could get into, but she also sees how much Mako cares. Fights aren’t necessarily bad. She just hopes one of them doesn’t screw it up, because Mako’s a good kid.
All in all, they’re all just happy for the both of them. Sure, maybe they’re a little cautious cause they’re not used to Yua dating, but they want her happy. And so long as dating Mako doesn’t completely push her away from dating yet again, they’ll support the relationship.

How do you envision the way Yua and Mako meet and fall in love?
Oh my gosh. I didn’t expect anyone to be interested in my super rare pair. This got long. Sorry. I’m just so excited to talk about this pair.
Okay. So, for meeting there’s a few options. And I’m gonna ignore the fact that Yua’s not in any of the canon material yet, so canonically they’d have to meet after the show ended. Which is crap and she deserves to be in the canon material.
First option, they meet when Mako is still a pro bender. The Fire Ferrets are her favorite team because their mascot is her favorite animal. So when she’s visiting Republic City, she makes sure to buy tickets for all the games they’ll be playing while she’s there. Three in total. And of course she has to go visit them in the changing room after the first game is done.
Mako’s annoyed at first since she seems to be fawning over Pabu, and her and Bolin are talking animatedly about the game. Her and Bolin do their best to try and involve him in their conversation, but he doesn’t seem interested. Then one of Yua’s guards comes into the room to tell her that they should be going. With the typical “your highness” tacked onto it. To which Bolin’s eyes practically bulge out of his head, and Mako’s jaw drops in shock. Bolin outwardly starts freaking out, while Mako is silently freaking out.
He remembers that she said she’d see them at their next game. So while Mako would like to try and look for her in the crowd, that’s practically impossible. He talks more when she comes to visit them after the second match. Apologizing for his rudeness. To which Yua just laughs. Then they’re really getting along after the third game, and he gets a little disappointed she’ll be leaving for the Fire Nation the day after. So she won’t be able to make any of their other games for the season. But she’ll be listening on the radio for sure.
Second option, Yua goes with her grandfather to help fight the Red Lotus. Staying behind when Zuko returns home to protect Izumi. They don’t really talk, because they’re focused on protecting Korra and the new airbenders. In fact, they are even on different teams while doing so. Mako going with Bolin, and Asami to get the airbenders. While Yua goes with the metal clan and Tonraq to fight Zaheer and P’Li.
Yua’s focus is getting the airbenders out safely. So they don’t really talk, but they meet and know of each other. I’d say even have a slight respect for one another. But they don’t know the other.
Third option, they meet when Mako is Wu’s bodyguard. Yua goes to Republic City for Wu’s coronation with her mother and grandfather. She gets bored just being in the hotel so she decides to wander around, and finds an annoyed Mako leaning against a wall and glaring at Wu from a distance. This makes her curious, so she can’t help herself but to approach and start talking to him. As well as through in some good teasing every once and a while. Wu, of course, has to ruin it by either demanding Mako’s attention or trying to flirt with Yua.
Fourth option, Yua meets Mako post series when she goes to give Lin a visit at the police station. Lin and Izumi were incredibly close growing up, so she likes to pop in on the Police Chief every once and a while. And maybe Yua had something that Izumi wanted her to pass along as well. Which is how she runs into Mako, and they start talking as she’s waiting for Lin to be finished with whatever she’s doing at that moment.
Now, falling in love is slow. At least from Yua’s perspective. Mako tends to fall hard and fast. Especially when it comes to pretty girls (I.E. Asami). Mako wants to spend time with this girl even though she lives in another country, and Yua finds him interesting to say the least. They want to get to know each other, but it’s just hard for Yua to let anyone past the walls she has built up. Which Mako is willing to try.
When he finally gets to see her in fighting action, he realizes that this girl is crazy, and he loves it for some reason. That’s when he realizes he’s in trouble and really likes this girl. So he goes to Iroh for advice. Despite how nervous the very thought of doing so makes him.
Mako eventually becomes a constant when Yua’s in Republic City, and she starts letting down her guard around him without realizing it. So much so that Mako is able to tell when she is on guard and when she starts putting up walls again. He’s become a lot better at talking about emotions and feelings, so he talks to her whenever he sees that happening.
Yua always refers to Mako as a friend every time her family asks or when she’s talking about him. Which, they’re all extremely happy that she has a friend after so long of pushing people away. Though, using that word feels wrong to her for some reason. She’d become friends with Mako, sure. She’d even say she may have become friends with the others too. But was she really friends with Mako? No. That sounds wrong. Shit. She has feelings. No no no no. She can’t have feelings. She doesn’t do feelings.
But then she hears from Iroh that Mako did something stupid and dangerous (maybe similar to when he tried to destroy Kuvira’s robot), and she immediately hops on a boat to Republic City. She says it’s just so that she can chew him out and yell at him in person. In reality, she needs to see that he’s okay for herself. When she’s done having her fit and her rage has died down, she kisses him. Cause this boy never initiates the first kiss. She also softly calls him an idiot. To which he just replies, as equally soft, “I know”.
And there you have it, your honor. They’re in love.

This works for both Makua and Wuko, but people commenting about how they’re not a good match. Calling him a street rat, or bringing up rumors surrounding his questionable past. Basically, people turning their nose up at Mako dating (and potentially marrying) royalty.
In terms of Wuko, it would be especially present with homophobia throughout the Earth Kingdom, and stuffy nobles. Thinking it’s not proper for a King, no matter how long he’ll be King, to have such relationships. Kind of like a, “don’t show it” mentality. Wanting Wu to keep it secret at least until the Earth Kingdom is fully a democracy, and he’s no longer king. So as to not disgrace himself or the Earth Kingdom.
With Makua, I can really picture high class women making comments about how they had their fair share of fun before finding a true match. That she’ll buckle down some day and find someone of appropriate standing. Or someone mentioning the importance of political marriages, and keeping up a certain image.

Makua (Mako x Yua) thought that I just had and will not be able to go to sleep until I write it down. Yes, they'd have a few biological kids of their own. Probably one or two. But they'd also foster and adopt kids as well. They'd want to try and give as many kids as possible a safe and accepting home.

Thinking about Mako and Yua being together makes me realize that she better get used to having a big family if her and Mako get married. Just his dad’s side of the family alone. Then add of the Beifongs if Bolin and Opal get married. This girl goes from having a small to normal sized family, and then multiplies that by like five if she marries Mako. Someone save her.
