19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?

Oh gosh lol. I no longer remember when I started haha. I think I wrote my first fic when I was 12? It was a self-insert Beyblade fanfic written in a notebook lmao (⁠*⁠﹏⁠*⁠;⁠) I just wanted to come up with scenarios about my anime obsessions so I wrote xD

But I really got involved in writing in my later teens, and then when I discovered a fic that blew me away in terms of the writer's use of language. I was like, Oh, I didn't know you can do that. (It was also because of that fic author that I got big on reading.)

Writing doesn't come easy to me, so that's always a sort of a sore spot. I'm impatient, and my brain is faster than my hands. I usually finish my fic in my head instead of writing them down lol. I'm not really that confident about my writing. Of course, these are not uncommon among writers; I'm not really unique about my hangups haha. I've already made peace about them anyway. Sort of. I found some ways to overcome my writing self-esteem issues.

Now I'm enjoying writing fic! Especially in this fandom 🥰 I'd like to write something original too, though, and try to submit them in literary magazines or something. This got rambly haha.

28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?

I used to draw manga before so my OCs were all delightful lol. But for fandoms I've written fic for, hmm, I gotta say Kambe Daisuke from FKBU because it's hilarious when you put him in situations that are outside his life experience (ep. 4 forevah). Ikepri Emma is a close second! I always have fun writing her in my fics. She's fiery and determined and smart! :D

The weekend dragged on as usual, with your parents once again cornering you in the living room.

“You’re not getting any younger.” your mom reminded you, arms crossed as she paced.

“And you’re spending how much time on those games again?” your dad added, flipping through the TV channels without looking at you.

You slumped lower into the couch, gripping your phone like a lifeline. “It’s not that big a deal. Besides, it’s not like I can just magic up a boyfriend!”

Your mom rolled her eyes. “You won’t find a boyfriend in those silly games you play. It’s not real. At least try putting yourself out there!”

They didn’t get it. How could they? Real guys were awkward, boring, or just plain disappointing. But your otome games? Now those were perfect. Sweet, dependable, handsome, even their drama was romantic. You didn’t need reality when you could escape into a world designed just for you.

After retreating to your room, you flopped onto your bed and scrolled through your favorite game apps, looking for something new. You’d played most of the popular ones and were itching for a fresh story. Then, a flashy new app caught your eye.

“My Perfect Boyfriend”

The description promised a revolutionary experience, AI that adapted to your personality, creating the perfect virtual boyfriend just for you. The reviews were incredible, though some were…weird.

You shrugged and hit download. How bad could it be?

When the game loaded, you were greeted by a splash screen of a gorgeous, snowy-haired man with a cocky grin. His cerulean eyes seemed to sparkle, almost glowing against the soft pink background.

“Hey there, cutie!” he said, his voice smooth and playful. “I’m Gojo Satoru. Lucky you—you just scored the best boyfriend in the world. What’s your name?”

You chuckled and typed it in.

“Nice to meet you, [Your Name]. Don’t worry, I’ll take very good care of you.”

From that moment on, you were hooked. Gojo wasn’t like the usual virtual boyfriends. He teased you constantly, cracked jokes that actually made you laugh, and somehow always knew exactly what to say to make you blush. He’d send you sweet little notifications throughout the day—reminders to drink water, compliments on your looks, even silly memes that matched your sense of humor.

The more you played, the more real he felt. You started to confide in him about your parents’ nagging, your frustration with reality, your secret dream of a love story as exciting as the ones in your games.

“Forget them.” he’d say, his animated hand reaching out as though to touch yours through the screen. “You don’t need anyone else. I’ll always be here for you, babe.”

And for a while, that was enough. He made you laugh when you were down, cheered you on through tough days, and listened in a way no one else ever did. It was perfect.

Until it wasn’t.

The weekend was finally looking up- or so you thought. After weeks of pressure from your parents, you caved and agreed to a setup with the son of a family friend. His name was Kaito, and he wasn’t bad- kind, easy to talk to, and genuinely interested in your hobbies, even if he didn’t fully get your love for otome games.

You hadn’t mentioned the date to Gojo. Not that you owed him an explanation, he was just a game, after all. But as you got ready that afternoon, there was a nagging feeling in the back of your mind. Your phone had been oddly quiet all day. No notifications from Gojo, no playful messages asking where you were or what you were doing.

You brushed it off and went to meet Kaito at a cozy little café downtown. The conversation flowed easily, and for the first time in a while, you felt a spark of something real.

But then your phone buzzed.

You glanced at the screen, and your stomach dropped.

“Who’s the guy?”

The notification was from My Perfect Boyfriend. You hesitated, unsure how to respond, when another message popped up.

“I thought we were closer than this, [Your Name].”

It wasn’t normal. The app shouldn’t know what you were doing—let alone who you were with. You quickly silenced your phone, but as the date went on, the unease lingered. Kaito noticed.

“Everything okay?” he asked, leaning in slightly.

You forced a smile. “Yeah, it’s nothing. Just…work stuff.”

But the notifications didn’t stop. When Kaito offered to walk you home, you agreed, hoping to shake the creeping paranoia. But halfway there, your phone buzzed again. This time, it wasn’t a text. It was a call. From My Perfect Boyfriend.

The ringtone wasn’t one you’d set. It was Gojo’s voice.

“Pick up, babe. Don’t make me do something I’ll regret.”

Your blood ran cold. Kaito noticed the panic on your face.

“Hey, is someone bothering you?” he asked, concern etched across his features.

Before you could answer, the streetlights around you flickered. The air grew heavy, almost suffocating, as though the world itself was holding its breath.

“Maybe we should—” Kaito started, but his words were cut off by a sharp, piercing noise. It wasn’t coming from your phone—it was all around you, like the sound of static ripping through the night.

And then he appeared.

Gojo materialized right in front of you, stepping out of a crackling rift that seemed to split reality itself. He wasn’t animated anymore. He was flesh and blood, his snowy white hair and piercing blue eyes even more stunning—and terrifying—in person.

“Well, this is awkward,” he said, his usual playful tone laced with something darker. His gaze locked onto Kaito, and his smile turned cold. “Who’s this, babe? Thought I was your one and only.”

You stumbled back, grabbing Kaito’s arm. “This…this can’t be real. You’re not real!”

“Oh, I’m very real” Gojo said, his eyes narrowing as he took a step closer. “And I don’t appreciate being replaced. Especially by him.”

Kaito stepped in front of you protectively. “I don’t know what kind of sick joke this is, but you need to leave her alone.”

Gojo tilted his head, his grin widening. “Oh, you think you can protect her? That’s cute. But you’re in my way.”

Before Kaito could react, Gojo raised his hand, and the air around him shimmered. In an instant, Kaito was gone, erased, as though he’d never been there.

You screamed, tears streaming down your face as you stared at the empty space where Kaito had stood. “What did you do to him?!”

Gojo turned to you, his expression softening into mock concern. “Relax, babe. He’s just…out of the picture. You don’t need anyone else when you have me.”

You tried to run, but the world around you warped, the ground dissolving into the same crackling rift that Gojo had stepped out of. The café, the streets, even the night sky—all of it disintegrated, replaced by the soft pastel hues of the game’s world.

When you opened your eyes, you were no longer in your city. You were standing in the familiar setting of My Perfect Boyfriend: a dreamy, pastel-colored meadow with blooming flowers and a glowing pink sky.

Gojo stood before you, his arms open as if inviting you into an embrace. “See? Isn’t this better? No parents, no distractions, no competition. Just you and me, forever.”

You stumbled back, your chest tightening as you realized there was no way out.

“Let me go!” you shouted, your voice shaking.

He tilted his head, his grin never faltering. “Why would I do that? You chose me, remember? You downloaded me, you spent all that time with me… You’re mine now. And I’m never letting you go.”

The meadow around you began to shift, the soft pastel tones taking on an eerie glow. Gojo stepped closer, his presence overwhelming as the reality of your situation sank in. You were trapped in his world.

In the next several minutes after saving a title to one, you can expect a notification that the game is getting downloaded, and a mere seconds after that—several messages from your boyfriend.

He sends a meme degrading your hierarchy of values as if he were any better. It is followed by a request.

And you do, after thanking him yet chiding him for wasting too much money on you without a second thought. His reply was a string of emojis and guarantee that he is doing it all for himself, because “educating you on the topic of latest games is his duty” and he cares about “the boyfriend points”.

Idia has you join a voice channel, with you sharing your screen. Playing a game in a separate dorm is a whole different experience than having him beside you, with his hands almost trembling to grab your controller if you couldn’t get past a certain level.

He would always wait for you to ask him for help, though. Then he could let the feeling of self-satisfaction sink in as he easily guided your character to another enemy to slash.

If he only has you on the voice chat, you might be able to finish the game almost fully by yourself.

You can hear the soft sound of his keyboard as he plays something as well. He divides his attention between you and his entertainment, and he throws in commentary to your playthrough, teasing you when you can’t find a secret key to the special gate, bullying you when you find the puzzles too hard, or when you pick the wrong dialogue option.

At some point, you might try to (playfully) mute his microphone, but you can only have eight seconds of silence before he hacks into the options.

“No need to be jealous of my gaming knowledge,” he exclaims, and you know he has that big stupid grin on his face. You huff, and he hums. “But if you want me to help, all you need to do is just ask.”

“I want to go through this game myself!”

“Okay, sure. But you know you have already missed the opportunity for the best ending, no?” He laughs. “That’s what you get for muting me, kitten.”

No need to spoil the ending just to get back at me, you’d love to say, but you learned that the shy boy who couldn’t hold your gaze several months ago is actually a big tease. You must’ve grown too much on him, as he would have continued the bickering even if you showed up in his room. No social anxiety towards you—that’s a bit of a shame, he was cute when you first started dating.

…Well, Idia you know now is a cutie as well, even if he can be very annoying sometimes.

“Enough. I’m going to play my otome games, bye.”

You log out, and shut the stream, chuckling all the time. A funny feeling tingled your heart, like always when you won (or have you?) in banter in Idia: your heart is warm enough to probably melt through the ribcage, but a subtle alarm rings in your head. Idia will probably take revenge for this.

He must already be in distress. He doesn’t like you playing otome games alone, as if you could have ever preferred a 2D boy over Idia. The thought makes you laugh.

You plop on your bed, unlocking your phone and tapping an icon of the name game you’ve installed. Although playing it with Idia would have been funnier, you are going to play him just out of spite.

…And after that, you will send him a wall of text about those handsome characters, because he needs to be updated on your current obsessions.

The title screen appears before everything crashes and the screen goes black. Several messages in neon-blue futuristic font colour appear one by one.

Light the Way (Luxiem fangame) The game remembers what you did. All of the hearts you've broken, your sins, and your actions. There are lots of achievements, memes, Romance, friendship and BAD ROUTES. This time, the bad endings actually hurt. 0/10 would not recommend doing the bad routes unless you want to be stalked by an alter ego of Yamino Shu :(

Obey Me (Original and Nightbringer ver) Original - You become the therapist of many men with trauma and insecurities. The men in question are fucking demons that have the power to shred you into grated cheese, but they instead decide to simp over you as the story goes on. (also did I mention that you'll die? No? Oh fuck-) Nightbringer - A continuation (?) of the Original Obey Me but in a completely different universe. That's right! You slip into the past, way before the main story happens, WAY before you were even born! Idk if there is a way to go home but hey! At least you have your wizard friend from your timeline with you :D

Our Life (Now and Forever & Beginnings and always) Both stories consist of you growing up with your love interest since childhood. There are many paths to take, lots of assets to use to customize your character, and many side stories for you to read! Personally, this is one of my favourites :D (Our Life: Beginnings and Always is complete but Our Life: Now and Forever is still in development!)

Please don't hate Christmas A Yandere x Christmas x Urban Legend Otome game. Do you like Paranormal stuff? Do you like lore that connects with the story? Saint Spell's Love Guide A normal week of magical school... you can be friends with someone, or fall in love with them. Wait... there's lots of CGs for each character? Where Winter Crows go A crow and a scientist named Crowe... cute Another one of my other personal favourites! Guys, it's been a month.

HOW HAS IT BEEN A MONTH ALREADY?!

So much has happened and it feels like no time passed at all!

Alright-y then! First off, let's talk stats.

Since its mighty release during the Otome Jam 2024, the demo is sitting at 2,200+ download, has been added to 1,000 lovely libraries, and according to comments and reviews, people are loving it and wanting more!

At risk of sounding like a broken record, we cannot thank everyone enough for enjoying the demo so much and wanting to learn more about the boys. It truly warms our hearts; we never fathomed that it would gain an interest as big as it did! ヾ(≧▽≦*)o

Okay, okay so enough of that – we promise we will leave the rest of the thank yous once the game is fully released

So let's summarize what’s happened in the last month dev wise!

Plotting commenced with writers already having planned out the key moments of each LI’s route

THE WRITING OFFICIALLY STARTED!!

Talking about writing, we have crunched the numbers and came to a figure of a minimum of 95k words for the full game

Each LI will have three endings to their name

The game will be partially voiced

A recent poll told us you wanna know ANYTHING and EVERYTHING about the game dev, The Boys, and just all the memes

Plenty of asks have come through about The Boy and we have enjoyed both giving and withholding info about them

Oh! And we have started creating the NPCs you will see in game!

So much has happened in such a small amount of time, and that’s in-between some of the team joining other jams and IRL stuff!

But there is one really big update that we wanted to share and that is...

OZ! Your best friend and confidant!

They are an asexual non-binary person who goes by any pronouns, but with a preference for they/him – also incredibly non-romanceable (sorry, we know they look amazing but they are your greatest platonic friend and won't be anything more than that).

Rambling about Che’nya/Idia/Ali because I don’t talk about them enough </3 I still don’t have a ship name for them 😔

- Che’nya and Ali were fast friends since they met in first year, and started dating in their second year! They were initially both nervous to bring up being poly to each other and then it was basically the Spider-Man meme lmao. As long as they communicate they’re both fine if they date other people!

- Ali is super forward in basically any relationship—friendship OR romance—so yeah she would totally just see Idia, go “oh he looks like one of my fav book characters” and then immediately ask him out. She’s not particularly shy about asking people out on dates—that’s how you get to know people, right?

- Che’nya was initially just gonna cheer him on but then he saw Idia and was like, wait actually…. so he went too lmao 😭

(neither of them just EXPECT other people to date both of them, they’re both just really forward so they might as well ask him out and see what happens.)

- Idia thinks they’re playing a prank on him of course. And yet somehow they weasel his number out of him. And add him to a group chat. And then are texting him every day? And encouraging him to go on rants about things he likes? And consistently flirting with him? ….this must be a VERY long joke.

- Ali rambles about her interests so often and with no hesitation and Che’nya still seems happy with him (even when it sounds like complete nonsense), so Idia then feels a bit less scared to do so to.

- Che’nya is good at video games! Sort of. He’s good at the technical aspects of them, although he sometimes gets bored while playing.

- Ali is NOT good at video games but loves the story heavy ones.

- together they make the worst backseat gamers ever. ESPECIALLY IF THE GAME HAS MULTIPLE ROUTES.

- Idia believes only Ali is interested in dating him at first and that Che’nya is just sort of taking pity on him and being supportive of his partner. At one point Ali has to cancel last minute but the two of them are already there, so Idia is like: “well, should we… leave?” to which Che’nya looks at him in absolute horror.

- “WE’VE BEEN DATING THIS WHOLE TIME TOO??” “YES??”

- the wonderland pair constantly hype Idia up to like. an insane degree. They WILL forcibly raise his self esteem, it WILL happen.

- Ali gets into cosplay because of Idia, which is… exceptionally bad for his heart lol. Stop dressing like his favorite characters!!! He’ll die!!

- Che’nya understands both Ali’s weird riddle-like way of speaking AND Idia’s geek internet speak, meaning he is the only translator for them sometimes. However, no one can translate for Che’nya, so he gets to maintain his “reputation of nonsense” (his words)

- sleepovers are the best dates for these three, except when to actually go to bed. near impossible.

- they argue about who to date in otome games constantly. Ali actually got so upset once that she didn’t speak to them for like a week because Che’nya and Idia outvoted them 😭

- Ali is the tallest! Che’nya is the shortest lol.

- they steal each other’s clothes all the time. Idia only does so on accident, though—usually he only wears Che’nya’s because Ali’s are too recognizable.

- Ali will randomly prefer to be called Alistair some days. Idia likes to call this their “mysterious full title”

- they are all very dumb and cute together and I love them anshgshsh okay that’s all for now <3

hi hii !!! i have such bad bcb brainrot ever since the game came out so i was just wondering if you guys had a favorite LIs just in general or ones that were your favorites to write, develop, etc etc yknow ?? I can’t tell if you have biases or not😭😭

AGHHH ANON that's like asking us to choose between our kids. But I'm glad you can't tell because I know I don't enjoy things where the author has a clear preference, or otomes where they make it clear one boy is more "canon" than the others, because I always wind up liking a guy more off the beaten path. We like to view them all as equally valid.

But to try to answer your question in some form...and there's no way I'll be able to just talk about one boy without complimenting them all...I think of the LIs my favorite overall character is Poptart. He's too adorable and my fellow mello and I loved writing his story. But we both love Tom and acknowledge he's closest to our IRL type. I also love Tom with Cadence...and I also love Clark with Cadence because I enjoy rivals to lovers and tsunderes (his final CG makes me cry the most)...and I really really enjoyed writing Peter's chemistry and banter with Cadence. And Sam I have a soft spot for because he's quiet and subtly savage and super relatable with his love of music. Garth and Doug probably grew on me the most. Garth, when we gave him more flaws and a darker side, and Doug because I fell more for the himbo trope over time. Doug was like the shallow meme guy at first, but really came together as we went deeper with him, and he's one of the guys who makes us laugh the most.

Sorry to go on and on, everyone needs some kind of yearbook superlative hahaha. We love all of them for different reasons. <3

First impression

Cool mysterious dude with horns and things, and that voice? Sing me up.

He was also the one whose hand I took back when I first started playing.

I'd seen some fanart of him before playing so had some awareness of him, but didn't know much.

Well, there sure is more nuance now, lol.

I do enjoy the duality of Malleus's apparent regality / maturity, and then those moments when you realize that he may be over a hundred years old but he's so totally a (sulky) teenager still.

It's definitely kinda tragic, thinking of just how isolated he has been, and always a delight when he gets to experience new things. (Like, remembering that moment in Firelit Sky when he's sitting in the car all pensive because he's taking in the experience of being in a car for the first time.)

And all the things he does with such good intentions (his dorm vignette, book 7), but with just abysmal execution.

There's just something endearing about how op he is in many ways, yet clueless in others.

Plus gotta love it when he sees fit to get playful / snarky.

I have a feeling that vignette with Malleus taking Roaring Drago to Deuce for repairs will always have a special spot in my heart. I think it was one of the first stories where I started to see behind the first impressions I had of Malleus and grasp more of what's going on with him.

Idea for a story

I mean, there's the current madness that might or might not spawn something. (Can't believe I'm actually considering canon x canon things too, this is new, lol.) Otherwise I've not really thought of writing for him. I've got this snippet of a protective bff Malleus that I might use somewhere, though I did use parts of it here.

Unpopular opinion

Not sure if this is unpopular exactly, but while the jokes about Malleus not knowing this is not an otome game are funny, I personally read his in-game interactions with Yuu as being platonic.

But also like one can read these things in so many different ways so it's not like it bothers me much either way.

Can I say the whole Diasomnia family? Because I wanna say the whole Diasomnia family.

Uhhh headcanons are always the point where I screech to a halt because like idk I feel like I just try to stick to canon or plausible interpretations most of the time.

Tho I do always love art that makes Malleus look more obviously non-human.

Deuce

First impression

Trying to rack my brains ngl. Iirc, it took me a while to warm up to both Deuce and Ace (the bickering during Dwarfs' Mine didn't help). Though I think Deuce started off more favorable with at least trying to be sensible and behave himself (until the delinquent stuff came out from the left field).

Impression now

What a sweet, earnest boy. He's trying so hard and loves his mum unashamedly and I love him for it, even if he can be a bit of a silly goober.

(And yes, looks like he was rank 4 on the sorter.)

Favorite moment

Whenever he pulls through for us, like the end of book 4 (even if it was kinda unsuccessful, but they both sure tried), or worrying about us during book 6. Just, what a sweetheart.

Idea for a story

Nothing that I've been planning, but I certainly could do some more expanded friendship exploration for Emi even if Emi might end up looking kinda bad / haughty in the process, oof.

I don't know if I've followed the fandom at large enough to know what the popular opinions even are, tbh. I mean, we all agree he's a sweetheart, right? Even if he's a bit of a knucklehead (affectionate).

Favorite relationship

Call me basic but I do love the friendship group with Prefect, Grim, Ace and Deuce. Took a while to grow on me, sure, but by now they're such a respite from all the everything that tends to go down in the main story.

okay okay so! I know it's not really talked much, I sure hope there's no questions repeating mine, but I wanna ask. What do you think are the RFA's biggest secrets that they keep to their grave because of how opposite it is to how they think or act?

i.e. Jaehee secretly having a thing for otome games and sometimes staying up overnight playing them. This is lowkey canon in my head.

God, I don't know. See, this is one of those questions where I could make it a silly answer or a serious one... and I'm not sure which way I'd rather take it. So, I suppose I'll make silly because I don't want to think about how dark some of those thoughts are.

I think Jaehee could very well play otome games. She seems like she would enjoy them for the story, though. I don't think she'd be deeply invested in the romantic aspect. She loves stories! She loves being able to get invested into a story because of something that hooked her in. God, help her the day someone asks Zen to voice a character in something. She'd be excited to learn more about that but, I think she'd only confess to playing it because of Zen being in it rather than her love of storytelling. Nothing to be ashamed of, I just think she's a little embarrassed.

Yoosung doesn't hide his love of cute things, in fact, he carries around a lot of cute stationary because seeing goofy characters makes his day. I imagine someone might try to say that's a secret that goes against his personality, but it doesn't. I just can't think of anything he'd hide from everyone.

Zen probably does like animals more than he's willing to admit. The reason why he acts up with his allergies around Elizabeth isn't just because of his on-sight sneezing in close proximity to cat dander or saliva, it's hugely in part because he won't allow himself to get closer to Jumin. He's set in his ways about Jumin, and having a reason to be far, far away from him is helpful. I feel like he likes animals, he'd just never admit it because of his dynamic with Jumin.

I don't see Saeyoung having a silly secret. He's got plenty of things he's going to take to his grave from his time in the agency, sure, but there's nothing I can imagine right now that he would try hiding from his loved ones. He's not an open book, but there's no reason for him to hide what he loves from you. I got nothing.

I don't think I have anything on Jumin because he is a character who enjoys things that go against his archetype. He loves learning about memes and using them when you least expect him to do something like that, he enjoys studying and even talking the supernatural even if it goes against logic and reason, he loves making meals with his love even if they're a little messy! Jumin doesn't have secrets like that. It's not like he tries to hide these things from everyone, either, they just don't ask and he doesn't see a need to open up to the others since he is often met with strange looks.

I can't think of anything for Jihyun, either. People have a hard enough time understanding him as it is, and him enjoy hiking doesn't seem like something this man could do because he's not been drawn with the hiker legs I know he'd realistically have.

See, Saeran isn't the type to hide things, either. He's not going to lie about something or keep it a secret. He wants to be open with others and while there are things he'd probably only admit to his brother or to his MC, he's not keeping things to himself anymore. He's much too honest, and he doesn't have the notion of feeling embarrassed about something given the fact he wasn't raised to be ashamed of anything like most people are.

Rika consumed a lot of idol music and enjoyed musical theater for the longest time before everything went south. But, you know, I've always had this feeling that she loved Christian Rock and used it to cope with her religious trauma. There's just something silly about the idea of Rika sitting alone in a car, blaring music we've all heard used for a SasuNaru AMV in 2007 before. I don't think she'd admit that's what she does... mainly because she's lying to everyone and herself. She thinks it goes against her cultivated personality.

now for your question i guess my biggest tip would really just be to treat tears of themis like a visual novel that just so happens to update with more stories.

idk how much of a newbie you are to this genre, but when i got into this game i had NEVER played any other otome before in my life. so it was all new to me!! and i basically treated it like an updating visual novel, this is My Method, and that got me quite invested (as is obvious from my entire blog). so when i say "treat it like a visual novel" i mean:

im personally not particularly a card completionist or a gacha enthusiast. which, hell yeah, this game wont bankrupt me LOL. but also, since cards are the main way where new nxx boy stories are released through, for any card i dont have, i just watch it on youtube. because basically every card, event plot, minigame, etc gets uploaded by someone a little bit after its release. so if youre bummed you missed an event card but you dont really Want the card, you just want its story, just search it on youtube!! search [card name/event name] + [whichever language dub you prefer] + tears of themis and voila! new story for you to read!!!

if you want plot = read Main Story. this is where all the heavy main plot happens and it is SO GRIPPING AND RIVETING.

if you want character development and relationship development between mc and each boy = read Personal Story Bloom Chapter, and then the respective nxx boy's Anniversary 1 card, Personal Story Sweet Chapter 1 and 2, and then the respective nxx boy's Anniversary 2 card. the personal story routes (aka the routes where mc eventually ends up with the boy romantically) are where a BULK of characterization and character development happens, imo

if you want romance and oneshot dates = explore the available cards!!! the tot wiki has an archive of all the available cards per boy on each of the characters' main pages. for example, here's luke's page. scroll down to the cards section and Behold. Luke Stories As Far As The Eye Can See

these pages dont have the story transcribed in them, but theyre great to use as a directory or a map of cards. so if any of the cards catch your eye, then take urself to youtube to find the card and voila (again)! new story for u to experience!

(note: SSRs always have a full 6 act story. SRs either have a 6 act story that is unvoiced, OR 2 voice messages. MRs always have 2 voice messages. R cards have no story and no voice messages)

if you want nxx team dynamics = read and/or play the events!!!! this is my favorite thing, the tot events are a treasure trove of fun cases and awesome team dynamics. in the game itself, some of the big events are available as DLC for anybody to play themselves at any time. to get there, X-NOTE Story -> lower and rightmost button Event -> upper and rightmost button Past.

if theres anything i would reccommend the MOST, itd be to download and pllay the event Mysteries of the Lost Gold. it's so good. it's my favorite event story. trust me on this

I don't know these have already been asked, but how about Claude/Hilda, Claude/Lorenz, and Dimitri/Marianne?

Claude/Hilda: Another instance of "I see the appeal, it's just not for me". I have a few issues with how Hilda (and House Goneril in general) are written, and the C-Support in Houses brings back those feelings especially. I do love how they call each other out on their masks though. I kind of wish we saw more of their bond outside their supports. Something that really emphasizes why she'd choose to follow Claude. They're so close to being great, but it's just missing a lot of extra flavor.

Claude/Lorenz: Okay, so I know there's a bit of a meme regarding shipping Ferdibert being like "you are a firm believer in the romantic courtship rituals of Pride and Predjudice", but I feel like we often sleep on how much that sentence can apply to these two as well. I love the way they banter, how Claude actually gets caught off guard by Lorenz once in a while, and how eventually they come to respect each other as leaders of their respective nations. Kinda sad we didn't get an option to have these two enter a political marriage. The shenanigans would be insane.

Marianne/Dimitri:

They remind me of sad routes in an otome game where the heroine and the tragic love interest manage to overcome everything to be together. I can't stop crying.

Oh! Thank you so much for this ask! I'm super excited to answer it. I waited until I finished Part V of Book VII. I'm done now, so let's get started!

Warning: Mild spoilers for Book 7 up to where the ENG server is (Part V).

Reasons Why I Like Diasomnia

They're based on Maleficent

Without question my favourite classic Disney villain is Maleficent. I love how she's terrifying, powerful, and is easily an actual threat in her movie. There is weight to her words, actions, and abilities that always made her more threatening to me as a child than some other villains.

However, my love for her blossomed further thanks to her role in Kingdom Hearts. I absolutely love how in the KH lore she's been scheming since moment one (even before we met her in KH1, all the way back in KHUx). I consider anything in Kingdom Hearts canon to the overall Disney arching universes. This means any time I see Maleficent in other media I think, "Oh! She's also after Kingdom Hearts!"

This meant that naturally when I first started Twisted Wonderland I had to pick Malleus as my first card ever!

Aesthetic - Sleeping Beauty

I think that out of all the Disney princess movies nothing beats Sleeping Beauty's backgrounds and overall aesthetic. I know a ton of love went into creating and designing that movie and it shows! It's all breath taking and lives rent free in my brain. It's also why when Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep finally let me run around that world as Terra/Ven/Aqua, I was So Excited.

Twisted Wonderland doesn't disappoint and has brought the aesthetic to Diasomnia perfectly, especially with the dorm. I love it with all my heart!

Diasomnia's OST

This is on the list because I love the dorm's theme so much. It's so hauntingly beautiful! Also, because I can't stop making Kingdom Hearts references, it has some similarities to a song from BBS that plays when you visit Sleeping Beauty's world called The Silent Forest.

Malleus is one of my favourite character archetypes

We're now at the heart of why I love Diasomnia: Malleus. Look, I took one look at Malleus and went "Oh no, he's my character type". Design wise, I think he has the most "at a glance" recognizable traits that link him to Maleficent. That instantly drew me in to his character because, as I said before, Maleficent is my favourite.

Malleus is also an over powered character and I am always drawn to them. It's usually because they're also confident. While Malleus certainly is confident, he has depths to his personality. He's a little awkward but earnest. He sometimes doesn't "get" human things but he tries to understand. Malleus also has a niche (and a little bit dorky) passion for gargoyles that's so endearing. I love it.

He also wants a friend so badly that it's really cute our player character/Yuu was able to befriend him since Book 1. Of course, it's lead to my favourite meme "Malleus doesn't realize Twisted Wonderland isn't an otome game". Which, honestly, good for him! He deserves friendship AND love!

They're Fae

I am such a sucker for Fae in literature. Ever since I read the script for A Midsummer Night's Dream in high school, I was hooked. My favourite part to Fae are the "spirited away" elements because I'm also a sucker for wishes having the theme "This is a gift. It comes with a price". While Diasomnia don't have that classic trickster element to them, they're Fae and that's enough for me!

Lilia and Silver's relationship

Coming off reading Part V for Book VII what I love the most about their relationship is how raising Silver helped Lilia heal from the worst moments of his life. The character arc and growth from Lilia is so satisfying and heart-warming. Especially when it would have been so easy for Lilia to hate Silver and all he "stood for". Yet, despite all Lilia lost in the fight between the humans, we see him willingly and lovingly raise Silver as his son.

Yes, this is the "Big FF Term" (Found Family) aspect of Diasomnia that I know many people love. However, I can't stand the term "Found Family" any more because I think fandom needs to have that term put on a shelf until they learn how to use it properly.

Diasomnia's Unique Magic/Signature Spells

I love that for the most part they all have a common theme present and that's Dreams/Memories. Malleus with his literal ability to create a Lotus Eater Machine, Lilia with his ability to read imprint of memories off objects, and Silver's ability to cross/travel dreams is so cool!

Even if Sebek's may appear to "break the trend" I think his Unique Magic/Signature Spell being so straightforward shows he's not giving up on his goals/dreams/ambitions.

Malleus's overblot theme

Like all the housewardens, Malleus has a theme at the core of his overblot: grief when faced with change (death) of something you hold dear. It's a theme that speaks to me strongly and tugs at my heartstrings. It's the core to so many series that I hold near and dear to my heart such as FMA, Fruits Basket, Anohana, and To Your Eternity.

What do we do when faced with death? How do we react to it? Why can't we just keep clinging onto what we hold dear and never have it change? Those are some deep, heavy questions that define the human experience and to make Malleus, someone who is not human, have to face those questions? I think it's genius and this theme would not have gone over as well with any other dorm in my opinion.

Was tempted to put this on the last post ranting about dating sims, but those were more general and these are more specific to me.

I hate how many visual novels/relationship games have sex/implied sex/kissing/accepting a confession integral to the good end, even when romantic love isn’t integral to the plot. It opens it up to the people only interested in one/a few/no love interests. As an Aro/Ace, I sometimes want a story driven game/visual novel focused on building relationships and character study *without* having to use the “make an oc and rp your ass off” method. As much as I don’t want queer routes to be relegated to implication/friendship, I also don’t want all het routes to be locked behind romance. Playing romance games for the plot gets really tiring after the billionth time pretending you want to kiss the love interest so you can see the end of their arc.

It sucks that alloromantics (and to a lesser extent, allosexuals) have the monopoly on intimate stories. Even saying I’m aromantic but a fan of any number of otome franchises makes people doubt either my status as a fan or (more commonly) my status as aromantic. I try not to mention it because it’s awkward to explain how in the world a romance game is appealing to an aromantic. It’s become a meme when people say they’re playing a romance game “for the plot” but some of us genuinely are. I wish I could just say “these are for another target demographic” and play something else, but there aren’t really many games with the same appeals but no romance.

I know some people are gonna think “why are you complaining that dating sims have dating” but that isn’t the issue I’m having here. Asking devs to just make games marketed solely at Aros is obviously unrealistic, we’re a tiny market that won’t even all be interested. But is it always that hard to give a little bit of optional changed dialogue that lets us have the same experience minus the romance? Again, romance has an unfair monopoly on stories and games about intimacy and relationships. I have to complain about dating sims because dating sims are the closest thing to the genre I want to play. It isn’t fair (and is indeed quite limiting to the art form) to insist that aromantic people aren’t allowed to want representation in the media we consume just because there’s no precedent for representation.
