Quotes on your mind and having good health
Tumblr media
There is no health without mental health so take it from these individuals’ wise words and the Otherfun review team, and take better care of your health today.
The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly. - Buddha
Your mental state should always remain calm. Even if some anxiety occurs, as it is bound to in life, you should always be calm. Like a wave, which rises from the water and dissolves back into the water, these disturbances are very short, so they should not affect your basic mental attitude. If you remain calm your blood pressure and so on remains more normal and as a result your health will improve. - Tenzin Gyatso, The Dalai Lama
Tumblr media
Suppose you read about a pill that you could take once a day to reduce anxiety and increase your contentment. Would you take it? Suppose further that the pill has a great variety of side effects, all of them good: increased self-esteem, empathy, and trust; it even improves memory. Suppose, finally, that the pill is all natural and costs nothing. Now would you take it? The pill exists. It’s called meditation. - Jonathan Haidt
Tumblr media
Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going into nature is going home; that wildness is a necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life. - John Muir
I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order. - John Burroughs

How to Add Exercise Into Your Everyday Routine
Tumblr media
Depending on where you live or your circumstances, you may still find yourself without access to your gym, even though many gyms around the world have reopened. We know how important exercise is to keep you happy and healthy, so the team here at Otherfun thought we’d dig through our collection of ebooks and audiobooks to bring you some tips on how to add exercise into your daily routine.
Tumblr media
Sneak it in when you can. Have a few unexpected minutes of free time? Anything is better than nothing, and a workout doesn’t have to be an hour long in order to be helpful. Consider some push-ups when time permits, or a few crunches if you can, you can even climb the stairs just for the sake of moving. Micro-workouts, if done consistently, can provide an immense amount of benefit in the long run.
Add in some walks whenever possible. If it doesn’t seem like high intensity exercise, that’s because it’s not, but a good amount of walking can still bring a whole lot of benefit and is much better than simply sitting on the couch. If you have some errands like grocery shopping or medical appointments that can allow for a bit of walking instead of driving or public transit, the calories burned and muscles moved will go a long way to better overall health.

Crucial Reasons to Work Your Core
Tumblr media
There was a time, not too long ago, when core strength was all the rage. In fact, there were so many workout routines and devices designed to target your core that it started to feel a bit like a gimmick or fad. But core strength has always been important, and always will be important, so the team at Otherfun dug into our collection of ebooks and audiobooks to bring you the following reasons why you should work your core muscles:
Better posture, and less back pain. Your core muscles play a big role in your posture, and proper posture plays a big role in minimizing not only back pain, but knee pain as well. A stronger core will result in better posture over time, which in turn results in less pain!
Tumblr media
Better balance. If you’re wondering why many core workouts implement a level of balance, it’s because your core muscles are the ones ultimately responsible for your balance! A stronger core often translates into better balance, which in turn can lead to improved coordination in day to day life.
Fewer injuries. Core muscles often pick up the slack when other muscles are worked to exhaustion. But cases of muscle exhaustion can often lead to us relying a little too much on our core, potentially leading to injuries. Strengthening core muscles is a great way to prevent such injuries, not to mention injuries that may be caused by poor balance.

How to Set a Healthy Routine
Tumblr media
No matter your health and fitness goals, a solid routine can help you reach them. But how should you go about making that routine? And what should that routine involve? The team here at Otherfun dug into our collection of health and fitness ebooks and audiobooks to bring you the following suggestions:
Tumblr media
Wake up at the same time every day, no matter what time you went to bed. Sleep is nothing short of essential, and good sleep should be prioritized. If you’re having trouble getting to sleep at night, it may be in part due to your circadian rhythm being out of sync with your day, and one way to address the issue is to wake up at the same time every day, even if you don’t have a consistent bedtime, to help regulate your sleep schedule.
Prioritize exercise. It can be anything from an all out run to a brisk walk, from weight training to pilates, but whatever form it takes, your body needs regular exercise to be healthy. Exercise won’t just happen on its own, however, it needs to be scheduled in, and scheduling it at the same time every day will help you do it consistently.
Tumblr media
Plan out meals for the week. It may be difficult to find the time to cook every day, and as a result, many of us turn to fast food or frozen prepared meals. Though convenient, these foods are typically unhealthy. Planning out meals and batch cooking, however, can be a great way to ensure you’re always eating well.

Exercising Myths: Debunked
Tumblr media
Now that many of us are exercising from home, we’ve turned to various online resources for everything from tips and tricks to full workouts, guided or otherwise. But while there’s a whole lot of great information available online, there’s a lot of misinformation floating around too. With that in mind, the team at Otherfun thought we’d dig through our expansive collection of fitness content to debunk a couple of common exercising myths:
Tumblr media
Myth: It’s important to stretch before a workout. Stretching is an important part of any workout or exercise routine, as it helps increase blood flow to the muscles, improve flexibility, and prevent injuries. That said, stretching should be reserved for after a workout, and not before, as stretching pre-workout could weaken muscles before they’re expected to perform and may actually increase the chances of injury. Pre-workout routines can involve some light dynamic stretching but should mostly include light warm ups.
Myth: Workouts have to be lengthy in order to be effective. The fact of the matter is that any movement is better than no movement, and short workouts, be they “fitness breaks” or “high intensity interval training” have been shown to be highly effective in recent studies, bringing about many of the same benefits as lengthier workouts. Shorter workouts can be as simple as climbing the stairs a few extra times, going for a short run around the block, or even carrying heavy groceries home, so long as you’re moving!
Tumblr media
