There is no one single family in Russia, who didn't suffer from the WWII, The Great Patriotic War. Today is a Victory Day celebration there and all my thoughts with the Russian people. With my uncle, who fled to the front as 15 year old boy, adding couple of years to his age in his passport and without saying a word to his parents and ending the war as a hero officer; With my mother, who worked as a nurse with heavy wounded solders in the military hospital all four years; With my mother's family, who were forced to abandon forever their house in Moscow's suburb Zvenigorod, because of advancing Germans. They burried their library in a huge trank in their apple garden; With my mother's boyfriend, who was chained then to the machine gun (to his death), because he left his military unit for one hour without permission, to say goodbye to his girlfriend; With my father, who had among his other awards an "Alexander Nevsky" order and never had a chance to tell me story about it.. I was a small kid, when he gone; With my mother-in-law and her family, who were deported by Nazis from Leningrad's suburb to a labor camp in Germany (btw, they were liberated by the Americans).. Just one picture from my family archive, he is 19 years old on this photo and got his first award. I found this image accidentally via Internet, my family have never seen this picture before.
