After our spaghetti dinner, mum and I did some light shopping at the supermarket. On the way out, we approached Polar Puffs & Cakes to buy some pastry snacks. The buy any three pastries for S$5.50 promotion is still on, so I picked up one each of Chicken Mushroom Puff, Otah Puff and Black Pepper Chicken Puff. The pastry shell is shattering flaky though I wish for more of the chicken mushroom filling.

Listen he gets drunk very fast but not often

It’s like a once every 6 months kind of deal

And when it happens he gets very drunk

He’ll be sat at the bar, getting more and more talkative to absolutely anyone who will listen

And then he’ll spot you walking through the maribel hotel doors and the most love struck mist will cloud his eyes

He would push himself off his seat and stumble over to you- before draping himself over you and bringing you into a swaying embrace

“Mordecai? Are- are you drunk??”

He’d just nod, before burying his face in the crook of your neck

And he’ll just hang off you until you decide to head home- sort of like a shadow but in a loving sense rather than his usual ‘i will murder you’ way

He is 10x more protective of you when he’s drunk so I would 100% take away any weaponry he may have

He’s hissing at everyone who try’s to question what he’s doing and even swipes his claws at a guy who bumped into him

“When is my brain ‘oming back?”

It’s best if you take yourself (and him by default- he still hasn’t let go) home pretty quickly

Will happily walk home side by side with you- not saying much just gazing at you with soft droopy love filled eyes

His pupils expand slightly

When you’re home he insists he can get into his pjs on his own but comes to you with the buttons done up in the wrong way

You both brush your teeth together and head to bed

Depending on how drunk he is, by now he’ll have sobered up slightly and will insist on sleeping in the guest bedroom in case he throws up

Or he’ll still be super drunk and insists on spooning you from behind, purring

Yes you heard me- purring!!

He only does it when he’s drunk and around you

Man’s when you’re both settled and you’re drifting off to sleep

In the quietness of your bedroom you hear him mutter very, very quietly

“…Ani ohev otah…” (אני אוהב אותך.)

You smile to yourself before whispering back

1871 in Kainai is truly a season for the kids--and for birthdays. First off is Nettie and Otah's second son, Abraham, who grows into childhood the picture of his father, with a dash of his mother's coloring. He immediately glues himself to the chess set--I'm sensing a future Knowledge sim.

Over at the Tandey house, Zhanna Tandey grows up into a child as well. Noticeably absent from this party is her mother, though the tag team of Lupe, Nettie, and Eva are ready to act as surrogates. I wish that the Sims 2 let sims bake their own birthday cakes, like 3 and 4. In my heart, Lupe baked Zhanna's cake.

Over at the Teesateskie-Kozłowskis, little Tsula gets her own cake. Tsuna cheering her on in the background makes me realize that their names are almost the same--good thing they're different ages and completely different appearance-wise or I might get them confused.

Last but not least--though certainly tiniest--little Galina Goryunov grows into a toddler. Tsuna attends this birthday, which makes me irrationally happy. She never holds her husband's actions against the kids, even if they're not hers. I continue to cross my fingers in hopes of bear attacks.

大家好! This week, I had my simple breakfast of instant meepok out of compassion for starving Palestinians in Gaza on a WFH day. Much has happened in the last 7 days, including news that Israel has (unsurprisingly) reneged on its own ceasefire deal a second time. Now why would they pretend to be open to negotiations if they never intended to honour the terms they came up with? The Biden administration wants us to believe Hamas is the only thing standing in the way of a ceasefire, but Israel undermined the deal almost immediately after Biden announced it, even before Hamas could respond so..... 🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥 As we say in Singlish (Singaporean pidgin, if you like), 'Please lah, you think we don't have eyes meh?' which, loosely translated, means 'Please, do you honestly think we can't see what is happening?'

To celebrate KY's birthday, ML, SC, RT, DL, CY, JC, DT and I bought him lunch at a Chinese restaurant. There was a lot of food! We had lor bak gou (radish cake in Cantonese), a platter of crispy fish skin, siew mai and scrambled eggs with crab meat, char siew bao, fish maw soup with crab meat, steamed fish, wasabi prawns, roasted chicken, broccoli and mushroom with abalone, seafood pao fan (crispy rice in broth) and lastly, dessert. Everything was delicious, but what was more important was the good company. In order to avoid hitting the 10-photo limit per post, I made a slideshow. Enjoy! I know I did; the lor bak gou, fish maw soup with crab meat, siew mai and wasabi prawns were especially yummy!

After such a heavy lunch, I felt bloated. To ease the discomfort, I had cai fan salads. The first comprised bean sprouts, green beans, okra, bak choy and otah. The second comprised a sunny side up, cabbage, Chinese spinach and green beans. Cai fan hawkers here work their culinary magic on vegetables; the dishes are so yummy, many of us enjoy eating them. The secret to family, friends and I crunching our way through enough veggies: make them delicious as well as moderately healthy. Not going to the extreme where 'eating healthy' is concerned gives us plenty of leeway to include different cooking methods. We don't get bored. Increasing my fibre intake helped; soon, I was back to normal.

Most of the time, I favour noodles, congee and rice over potatoes, but there're some potato dishes I find hard to resist, so I don't. Potatoes in chicken curry or curry puffs, for instance, are just about the most delicious way to eat them, ever. Cai fan stalls also stirfry or braise them, but I don't usually order these because they're smothered in sauces which overwhelm the delicate sweetness of the spud. But when I saw stirfried potatoes without a lot of sauce at the cai fan stall I ordered lunch from, goodbye rice! I ordered that, along with cauliflower, brinjal and tomato egg. They were melt in the mouth tender, and I could taste their natural sweetness. Definitely ordering this again when I see it!

It seems like, globally, countries are growing sick and tired of this genocidal war in Gaza and increasingly signalling their displeasure. To many, the only obstacles to peace are Israel and the nations arming it. It isn't rocket science; once the weapons supply dries up, Israel will have to negotiate for a permanent ceasefire more sincerely. If the US can shift goalposts regarding the red lines it previously declared, namely, an attack against Rafah, it makes the Biden administration appear untrustworthy and weak. In short, not a good look. And if I think this way as a normal everyday person, imagine what various countries' leaders privately think, even if they don't voice it out.
