‘What do you do for work” is a loaded question. Friends and customers alike have told me that I shouldn’t care what others think; If they have an issue with my job, that’s their problem! Right? Not always.‘

Living with an ostomy can present unique challenges, but it can also be a manageable part of daily life with the right personal care strategies. Comprehensive personal care in Middletown, New York, is at the heart of effective ostomy management.

Are there support groups to help transition to living with a ostomy?
That is a great question! There are around 300 ostomy support groups nationally through an organization I love, the United Ostomy Associations of America. Their website has a helpful support group location tool for those who would prefer to meet in person; the website also endorses that some locations offer virtual support group sessions, as well.
ConvaTec, a leading manufacturer of ostomy supplies, has created an online support community called Me + for people with ostomies to gather information, hear success stories, and form connections with other "ostomates" that transcends transportation restrictions or physical barriers.

Able-bodied people (and sometimes disabled/chronically ill people with mild/in remission disease progression) operate under the assumption that medical devices are life(style) limiting and that by using one, you are giving up an able part of yourself.
Medical devices are not life limiting, they are life saving.
Feeding tubes + pumps, piccs, ports, catheters, ostomy bags, cardiac and gastric pacemakers, drains, mobility devices, nebulizers, CGMs, insulin pumps, pain pumps, nerve stimulators, implants, internal defibrillators, etc etc all extend the freedom and life of the user by allowing us to live comfortably with our condition(s).
The assertion that we are limiting ourselves by using medical technology is so prevalent, even in disease-specific communities. There are people in my gastroparesis support groups that are actively starving because they are refusing intervention at this moment, and it's all a byproduct of this mindset that I've touched on before that mental willpower is greater than the progress of chronic illness/disability. And in this case- it's perpetuated by many medical professionals as well. No amount of "eating smaller, more frequent meals" will flip a switch and un-paralyze my stomach, Dr. ER. Hospitalist.

my mom had apr surgery in july and now she’s back on chemo again until february. she recently had to kick my abusive dad out because things got really bad but now we’re financially struggling. she needs a full time caretaker (me) but because of that i’m unable to work right now and i can’t afford to support myself, my mom, and my younger siblings. thankfully my grandparents have been letting us live with them but my mom has a lot of expensive medical things she needs to survive (prescriptions, ostomy bags, etc.) and i’m feeling really helpless right now. any donation or reblog would help out so much. my mom had a gofundme earlier this year but my dad literally took all of the money for himself so i set this new one up that goes straight to her.

MY FIRST HALF-LIFE 2 OC! Meet Zivko, the salvaged stalker. most of his info is written on his sheet but i'll include them here + other facts :)
-Nicknamed the 'Salvaged Stalker' -5'11" and 16.2kg -He barely escaped the stalkerization process being liberated during the major raid of Nova Prospekt. -Zivko used to be a skilled mechanic in the Resistance, but he now has to regain the skills he lost as he recovers. -He was tortured and his memory was wiped, but luckily he was rescued before he reached the 'conditioning' stage. With the help of his ride or die vort buddy, he is regaining his sense of self and his memories. -His life is dedicated to freeing those under the combine. The reason as to why he was saved from a fate worse than death is unknown, but this mystery steers him to go on. -He has hacked combine eye enhancements installed to restore his vision (combine plucked his eyes out). -Due to the removal of his genitals, rebel medics fitted him with a urostomy & colostomy. His waist bindings hold the ostomies in place. (smaller is urostomy, larger is colostomy) -He looked a lot different before this happened to him, maybe another time i'll draw how he looked before it all. -An extra beam on the back of his legs were installed for better mobility and support. -His rebel insignia and bracelet were crafted by his vortigaunt buddy (who has yet to be drawn, I will get on that soon), the cyan paint is made from the same substance as the vort murals we see in HL:A. -Because of his serious body image problems (rightfully so), he almost always wears clothing that covers his body and face. He is also susceptible to the cold due to his weight. -Because of the removal of his nose and outer ears, he's also susceptible to respiratory problems and his hearing can be quite sensitive, not always sure of the direction of sounds. -Sad but important fact about him, because of the constant pain he's in and his shattered image of himself, he'd rather be dead. The only thing keeping him around is the fact that he is alive. Somehow HE, some random mechanic, survived against the odds and might just be one of, if not THE, only people to come out of Nova Prospekt still human. Even if he doesn't understand it yet, there must be a reason for his survival.

I am super privileged to have the family support that I do.
I currently am in WA through Job Corps but my family lives in AZ. My GI surgeon who I need to see is in Seattle. Due to my declining health I have had to drop to part time college and am not able to stay in Job Corps so they are sending me back home to Arizona.
I made an appointment with my surgeon in Seattle in November under the assumption that I was going to be a couple hours away and able to easily attend. Now that I’m moving to Arizona that’s not the case.
My parents care about my health and are willing to pay for me to fly to Seattle several times to first consult with the surgeon and then actually have surgery for my ostomy.
I am such a complicated case surgically due to my history of J-pouch and J-Pouch Prolapse. My surgeon who fixed my prolapse was considered an expert at this surgery and she had only done it twice prior (three times now due to me ^-^). I’m going back to her since she will know best how to work around the mesh implant and all the work that she did.
I’m not looking forward to an ostomy for the sake of having my intestine poking out of my abdomen but I’m excited to stop being sick and dealing with chronic pouchitis.

"Would you like to take a walk together by the ocean, Young Master?" 🏖️🌊
Surgery is coming up soon, so I decided to head to the beach one final time this summer. I had such a fantastic time with friends, the perfect ending to my stoma journey. The last time I cosplayed as Peko, I kept my ostomy bag under my swimsuit, but this time I wanted to do things a bit differently. With my ostomy bag and surgery scars fully visible, I walked onto the beach as a true Crohn's Disease Warrior. 🔥
I'm not sure how active I'll be on here until I recover from surgery, so I just wanted to thank you all again for your patience and support. The hardest part about being chronically ill is wanting to do so much, but being limited by your health.
2023 has been one of the hardest years for me medically, but it's also been a year for reflection and gratitude. I consider myself very fortunate and lucky to have surrounded myself with wonderful people who will go above and beyond for me when the chips are down!
Photography is by @holahallo!
As always, thank you for stopping by my page. I hope to share some more updates again soon! ❤️‍🩹

just wanted to give you a heads up, one jq fan to another - please block and report this account priscillawolf0279 on tiktok. as you can see they are dangerously obsessed with jq and she has threatened violence against fans. she's also been harassing and bullying another fan because she has an ostomy bag. this behavior is not okay and needs to be called out
Ah I saw something about this account on twitter too. Blocking and reporting sounds like a good idea. I’d also advise to completely ignore it other than that. It’ll only feed them. The more you react the more motivated they become to continue.
I didn’t know this was the same person who was involved in that other situation that you mention. I’m glad this person had lots of support from within the fandom, because that was simply cruel and so unnecessary too.

I have not been on tumblr for quite a while and it makes me a bit sad. This blog used to bring me so much joy. I am still alive, just not really living. I had six surgeries this year, the last one failed horribly and made everything much much worse. I am at a point where I don't know how much more I can stomach (that's a pun lol, I will most likely get an ostomy next year). I don't want to get into the disgusting and disturbing details but currently, there is not much room for anything in my life. In summer I was reading some amazing lesbian books and dreaming of getting into dating again but now I just get sad because I don't think my personal love life will ever happen again. Not that that's the worst thing in all of this. It just makes this blog too bitter sweet for me right now. I don't want to say that I am at my lowest because life could take it as a challenge but I am very tired. This was supposed to be the year of getting my life back, of working, saving money, meeting people and just living. Instead it's the year of saying goodbye to a lot of food, bodily functions, hobbies, social contacts and dreams. I am currently in bed 24/7 but hoping that this will change again. I have an amazing all women support group, which (alongside my cat) is the only thing keeping me sane right now.
So in general.. this blog isn't dead, it's just resting, like me. Hope to be more active again here someday <3

Time to get a little bit personal on my blog because I haven’t any other place to talk about my recent health issues~ Putting it under a cut because there are discussions of reproductive issues, surgery, and periods which I know can be triggering for some!
Went in for some exploratory surgery at the start of October to positively diagnose endometriosis that I knew I had and was being treated for the past seven years. When I first went to my gyno back in 2016 about the pain and issues I was experiencing she diagnosed me with endometriosis right off the bat - she didn’t even feel a need to do a diagnostic laparoscopy because my symptoms matched almost perfectly. She put me on hormonal medication (not birth control) and I actually saw a major reduction in symptoms. Not everything was gone, but the worst of it was so I was content.
Flashforward to early 2022 and I went to visit my family doctor to discuss some health issues I was having - some of which were tied up with my ovaries and uterus. I was telling him that I was still experiencing some issues, that my medication sometimes feels like I’m damaging my body further (bone density being the biggest), and that I didn’t know what to do next. He suggested a hysterectomy.
So I went to my gyno who, while supportive, wanted me to be armed with as much knowledge as possible and suggested a diagnostic lap for the first time - just to see what was actually going on. So I went in for surgery (with lots of fun things happening along the way - like discovering that when I faint from seeing blood I actually have a minor fit that looks like a seizure l o l), got pictures of my insides, and was told to come back to my gyno in 6 weeks to discuss ‘my future’.
Six weeks later and: I’ve been officially diagnosed with endo and I’ve been given all manner of options. Remove my ovaries and tubes but keep my uterus, remove everything and enter early menopause, continue with what I’m doing until I enter natural menopause, continue what I’m going until I’m 40 and then have a complete hysterectomy and enter early menopause, go to see an endo specialist and have them remove what endo tissue they can.
And of course, all of these options carry huge amounts of risk. Entering early menopause, even with hormonal therapy, greatly increased a person’s risk of dementia, heart disease, and bone density issues (the latter which I already struggle with). As well, scar tissue has fused my uterus to my bowels, making the risk of surgery high due - if they puncture the bowel I could be on an ostomy bag. But if I do nothing I’m still abusing my body with another type of hormonal medication that’s got its own negative feedback loop. Not to mention the medication doesn’t work forever. It’s supposed to, but it doesn’t. And I cannot and will not have my periods again. It’s just not possible.
So I decided to be put on the long waitlist to see the specialist, and hear what he suggests. In the meantime I’m going to spend the next year researching and running my brain in circles trying to decide my future, which is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I thought I’d go in, choose the complete hysterectomy and it’d be an easy one and done type thing. But it isn’t and I hate that it isn’t. I don’t want kids, I’m ace as fuck so I’ve never wanted sex so those aren’t issues for me. But it’s the potential to screw my body up even more that scares me. Like if I make the wrong call I’ll fuck myself over for the rest of my life.
God I hate this disease. I hate that I have to have it. I hate that it’s cost me so much of my life, and that there is no quick, easy, painless fix. I hate that I had to even undergo invasive surgery to know what was really going on. It’s so stupid and useless and frustrating and I fucking hate it.
Anyways. I just needed to talk about it in detail. If you read this and identify with it, I’m sorry you’re going through pain as well. And a reminder: painful periods are not normal. Periods where you can’t leave your bed and you’re vomiting and shitting your guts out aren’t normal. Periods where you’re so bloated you think you’re going to break through the walls of your stomach is not normal. If you can, seek help. Demand answers. Advocate for yourself.
