Unfortunate Discovery
TW: emeto, brief food descriptions
———
It was supposed to be a fun night out. They had just finished the final day of shooting for a short film and gone to a nice restaurant, and now Lucas felt sick to his stomach.
Armando was driving half of the crew—himself, Penelope, Lucas, Steven, and Ethan—on the two hour drive back to campus. Lucas, being the skinniest, was stuck between Penelope and his brother Steven in the back seats. It had only been a few minutes since they had started the trip.
With every minute that passed, Lucas’ stomach got more upset.
I don’t get carsick, so it can’t be that… and I don’t have any other symptoms, so I don’t think I’m actually sick…
He tried to figure out what could be making him feel so awful.
Did I just eat too much? I don’t think so…
The pressure of his stomach against the inside of his abdomen just kept getting stronger as more minutes went by.
Did I eat something I don’t usually eat? Let’s see, steak, rice, no, those are fine…
He leaned back in his seat to try to get more comfortable. It didn’t help. He leaned forward. It didn’t help.
Avocado? I guess I don’t usually eat that much of it. That could be it.
He tried to lean to one side somehow. It didn’t help.
Nothing was working. He held his seatbelt out from his body, which helped a little bit with the pressure.
“You okay, Lucas?” Penelope asked, breaking from her conversation with Ethan and Armando.
“Yeah, my stomach just feels a bit…” he shook his head, trying to think of the right way to describe it. “…bad.”
“How bad?” she pried.
“Are you gonna barf?” Steven teased him.
“I might just barf on you,” he quipped back.
“Seriously, though, so I need to get off the highway?” Armando asked.
Lucas thought about it for a moment.
“Yeah, probably,” he answered.
“Okay,” Armando said with a sigh. “You better not ruin my car.”
“Are there any plastic bags or anything in here?” Ethan wondered.
“I don’t think so,” Armando answered.
Ethan checked the glove compartment as Armando took an exit to get off the highway. The GPS voice started telling him how to get back on the highway.
“Ethan, could you turn that off and change it to avoid highways?” Armando requested.
“Sure,” Ethan said. “It needs your passcode.”
Armando skillfully typed his passcode without looking at his phone.
While Ethan messed with the GPS, Lucas tried to figure out whether he was really going to be sick or not. The feeling was right at the point where he couldn’t tell whether it was going to stay the same and eventually subside, or get worse and make him double over.
If it gets any worse, I’m definitely going to throw up.
It got worse. His stomach started to turn.
“Pull over,” he mumbled.
“What?” Armando asked.
“He said pull over,” Penelope told him urgently. “I think he’s going to throw up.”
“Oh, shit,” Armando said.
They were in the middle of a three lane road with a decent amount of traffic. He looked around for an opportunity to change lanes.
Don’t barf in the car, don’t barf in the car, Lucas repeated to himself, trying to prevent it from happening with sheer force of will.
Penelope noticed Lucas’ face getting pale and his cheeks getting flushed. His stomach churned and gurgled more and more. He pressed his hand over his mouth.
“If you don’t want your car ruined, you better get over, Armando,” Steven warned him.
“I know, I’m trying!” Armando snapped.
He cut aggressively into the left lane. Someone honked at him, but he didn’t care. Penelope unbuckled her seatbelt and got ready to jump out of the car. Lucas did the same while Armando pulled the car over onto the shoulder.
As soon as the car stopped, Penelope opened her door and gracefully hopped out of the way. Lucas clambered over the seats and practically fell out of the car. He staggered forward a few steps, then braced himself with his hands on his knees.
He gagged loudly, but nothing came up.
“Come on, get it over with!” Steven yelled from the car.
Lucas wished it was that easy. The pressure was unbearable. He heaved again, but still, nothing.
Steven mocked his retching noises. That finally sent him over the edge. His stomach violently contracted, forcing a large amount of his dinner up his throat and onto the grass.
He tried to spit out the awful taste. He could hear Steven laughing in the background.
Another painful heave sent up a mouthful of half-digested food. He spat again.
“Do you think it was something you ate?” Penelope asked, now standing next to him.
“Probably,” he responded.
Mucus dripped from his nose. His face was hot with embarrassment. He wondered how many people were looking at him from their cars.
He gagged again, puking up only a small stream of mucus and saliva.
He took a deep breath, letting the spit drip out of his mouth.
“Do you think you’re done?” Penelope asked gently.
“Maybe.”
He stood upright. He still felt queasy, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as it was before. The pressure was almost gone.
“Yeah. I feel so much better now,” he told her.
“That’s good.”

I know I can't stop you, but if we're not mutuals or you're not involved in whatever inside joke I am talking about please dni with the posts. NCIS: Los Angeles Season Nine Rewatch:  "The Silo"
The basics:  A person for Kensi's past is part of a terrorism plot.  She's tasked with stopping him.
Written by:  Frank Military who wrote/co-wrote “Little Angels”, “Deliverance”, “Lockup”, “The Job”, “Greed”, “Betrayal”, “Crimeleon”, “Vengeance”, “Out of the Past” Part One, “Rude Awakenings” Part Two, “Descent”, “Ascension”, “Allegiance”, “Spoils of War” (which he directed), “Black Budget”, SEAL Hunter”, “Rage” (which he directed), “Unspoken”, “Unlocked Mind”, “Revenge Deferred”, “The Seventh Child”, “Crazy Train” and "Uncaged" (which he directed).
Directed by:  James Whitmore, Jr. directed NCIS‘s “Legend” part two which introduced the OSP team before directing “Identity”, “Found”, “Human Traffic”, “Empty Quiver”, “Plan B”, “Familia”, “Lone Wolf”, “Vengeance”, “Recruit”, "History" and "Battle Scars".
Guest stars of note:  Aaron D. Spears as FBI Special Agent Mark Monroe, Robert Curtis Brown as Air Force OSI Executive Director David Cole, Amanda Clayton as Air Force Captain Anna Ross, Dustin Seavey (who appeared as a SEAL in Frank Military's "Vengeance" episode) as Air Force Captain Kevin Miller, Ellen Wroe as Tiffany Miller, Jason Downs as Professor Ted Holmes, Joshua Elijah Reese as FBI Agent #1, Sharon Battle as Air Force Office of Special Investigations Agent, Mark Reininga as Air Force Lieutenant Gerald Zindower, Akanimo Eyo as Air Force Launch Control Officer and Arley Ryder as Armed Air Force Airman.
Our heroes:  Work with Kensi as she saves the day.
What important things did we learn about:
Callen:  Not surprised that Mosley is excluding the team from the case. Sam: Makes Hidoko chose between the team and Mosley. Kensi: Saves the world. Deeks:  Struggles as Kensi saves the world. Eric:  Asked to leave when Kensi gets the call about Kevin. Nell:   Also sent away when the Kevin call comes. Mosley:  Works well with the team. Hetty:  Not in the episode.
What not so important things did we learn about:
Callen: Thinks the Kensi and Deeks grilled cheese argument is entertaining.  Sam:  Thinks grilled cheese is a euphuism. Kensi:  Woke up angry over grilled cheese. Deeks: Likes a variety of cheeses, sometimes an onion or tomato on his grilled cheese. Eric:  No joking around… Nell:   …with these two today. Mosley:  Is brutally honest with Deeks about her ability to get Kensi recalled. Hetty:   Absent.
Who's down with OTP:  The episode beings with a fight over grilled cheese, has a brutal talk mid-way through about saving the world versus saving yourself and ends with Deeks's real fears about losing Kensi the way Sam lost Michelle and Kensi not knowing about her career in law enforcement now or in the future. She is, however, is his world and he is hers.
Who's down with BrOTP:   Not a lot of time for this.
Any pressing need for Harm and Mac:  Air Force JAG is likely after the surviving co-conspirators on this attack though if the other Project Patton members are Navy or Marine, that would be a case for both.
Today in Harley:  Is confronted by Sam when she objects to Deeks knowing about Captain Miller.  Was impressed working with the team as they took down the NSA bad guy.
Fashion review:  Dark blue button down shirt for Callen, black henley for Sam. Kensi is also in a black henley but this one has blue stripes.   Charcoal grey v-neck tee for Deeks.  Blue-green long-sleeve button down shirt for Eric over a grey-tee.  Black dress for Nell with a black blazer.  Blue dress for Mosley.  Black tee for Hidoko.
Music:  Luca Fogale's "I Don't Want to Lose You" plays rather prominently at the end of the episode.
Any notable cut scene:  No.
Quote:  Kensi:  "That was the hardest thing I ever had to do." Deeks:  "What's that, making the grilled cheese or singlehandedly saving the world from nuclear holocaust?" Kensi:  "Making that call to you.  Ugh.  How long are we going to do this for?" Deeks:  "I mean you're the one that wanted to stay in, so why don't you tell me." Kensi:  "I don't know." Deeks:  "That's great." Kensi:  "I don't I don't I don't know." Deeks:  "I can't go through what Sam went through.  I mean, honestly, I don't even know how that guy gets up in the morning.  What are we doing?" Kensi sighs. Deeks:  "You're everything for me. And, um I hate feeling like this.  Because you're my world." Kensi:  "You are mine.  You're my world."
Anything else:  A  white Air Force van drives up to the offices housing a missile silo in Colorado.  Two officers leave the van and enter the offices – one male, one female.  Both carry briefcases and are there to work.  They successfully go through the security process and an exchange of passwords with the men working in the launch center of the silo gets them inside.
Captain Anna Ross tells her co-worker Captain Miller that it was a beautiful day as they take the elevator to the silo's launch center.  Miller admits he didn't even look before they got to the office.  He seems bothered by that.  The officers in the launch room allow Miller and Ross in.  One of the departing officers is off to Denver -  he has five days leave.
Alone in the launch room, Ross and Miller log in.  He looks at her as she unpacks her briefcase.  She pulls out a bomb and blows up the elevator.  There is no easy access to the launch station.  "God Bless America" she tells Miller.  She plants a laser triggered bomb near the launch room door - nobody is getting in.  Miller makes a call and announces the silo is secure.  The air force officer on the other side of the call turns to his fellow officer and shoots him in the head.  Twice.  Then that officer also blows up the entrance to his launch center and sets up laser bombs to prevent an assault on the room.
The Air Force killer tells Miller that the launch cannot be countermanded.  Ross and Miller start setting targets.
In the bullpen, Deeks walks in alone.  He and Kensi took separate cars to work.  Callen asks what did Deeks do.  Deeks claims nothing but admits he criticized Kensi's grilled cheese.  Sam asks if that's a euphemism for something.  No, Deeks just knows his grilled cheese – he likes different cheeses in his grilled cheese, sometimes a tomato, sometimes some onion.  Callen asks if Deeks really went to be angry over that.  An angry Kensi arrives.  Sam notes she woke angry.  Deeks doesn't think she's angry.  Callen thinks this is about so much more than grilled cheese.
A very serious Eric and Nell arrive.  Kensi is needed in Ops ASAP.  No jokes, no team, - just a secure video call.  The team is worried.  Eric and Nell don't know what is going on – Mosley cleared the room.  "Of course she did."
Mosley is up in Ops with EAD Cole from the OSI.  Kensi is asked if she had a relationship with a Capt. Kevin Miller.  Kensi remembers dating a Lt. Miller while she was stationed in Japan ten years ago.  The Air Force is sending a security detail to pick her up.  She's being flown out of Edwards Air Force Base.  She needs to get her go bag and go in seven minutes.  Mosley tells Kensi to move fast.
Kensi races down the stairs to a waiting Deeks.  They walk and talk – they're not fighting anymore.  She tells him she's not sure what's going on except it involves a guy she dated in Tokyo ten years ago – Captain Kevin Miller.  Deeks tells Kensi she never mentioned him.  She didn't because they dated for less than three months and it meant nothing.  She tells him she's flying out of Edwards and she doesn't know where.  Deeks looks like a man who is watching the woman he loves fly out of the same base where she left him for months to go to Afghanistan.
Kensi arrives in Colorado.  She sees a confused civilian woman before being pulled over by Cole and the FBI Agent running things – Malone.  Kensi is beginning to put things together.  The three review the two-man rule at a missile silos.  It takes two officers to turn their keys simultaneously to launch a missile.  That way, there can't be an accidental launch or someone losing their mind and turning their key alone.
Cole explains that there is the ability to countermand a launch from any other silo in the world.  If terrorist take over one location, a second location can shut them down.  Unless two locations work together- by supplying back up to the original launch site, the missile launch can't be stopped.  Cole explains what happened that morning.  He also explains that they won't just launch missiles from this location – they have access to 50 missiles.  Kensi asks why haven't the missiles been launched.  They are being retargeted according to Cole.  It takes 15-minutes to retarget each missile.
Kensi asks some questions and Agent Malone is dismissive.  She's only there because she has a past with Miller.  She understands that and thanks for him for bringing it up.  Kensi asks if they can breach the launch room.  They can't – the rooms have been sealed and they are self-sufficient – they have their own air, own lights, own food and water.  The room was designed to survive a nuclear blast.  It is not easy to breach.  But she's not there to breach the rooms, Malone adds.  She's there as a civilian. Kensi brings up her training in tactical assaults.  Malone has an FBI team with the same training.  She's there to talk to Miller, to gleam motive and maybe talk him out of blowing up the world.
Kensi is worried – she dated him for less than three-months ten-years ago.  Kensi and Miller's sister are the only people they were able to get to Colorado in a short time to talk to him.  Dead parents, dead grandparents, no other meaningful relationships in his life – Kensi and the sister are the only people they can find.  Cole says if there is one person who won't go through the launch, today's possible disaster is over.
Mosley brings the Kensi-less team to Ops.  She starts talking about an Air Force Captain Miller.  Air Force catches Callen's ear but Miller gets Deeks's attention.  There is an investigation with the Air Force OSI and the FBI – "all hands on deck" according to Sam.  They are looking at Miller, Ross and a Lt. Zindower, the shooter from the other silo.  Mosley wants the team to tear apart the three officers' lives – e-mails, phone records, travel records, money.  Sam asks what did they do?  "An extreme act of terrorism" is all Mosley is allowed to share with the team.
Deeks pushes – "so you know what they've done but you're not going to tell us."  She's not.  Callen says they have the highest security clearances given by the government,.  With the mole investigation, the team and the office is the most scrutinized agency in the government.  Mosley is having none of it. This is a matter of national security and the secrecy order comes from the SecNav.  Mosley has nothing to do with this.
Deeks says there must be something she can share.  She can – she asks if they know about the Patton Project.  Sam calls it an urban myth (just as Deeks did with the California Gold Taxi Service in "Empty Quiver").  It is real.  Deeks wants to know more.  It was named after General Patton.  It is an aggressive faction inside the military.  They advocate all-out war on the Muslims according to Hidoko with genocide as the way to make sure the US is secure.  Deeks wants a clarification – Ross, Miller and Zindower are believed to "part of that."  Mosley tells him the Air Force believes it.  "There is a clock on this," Mosley tells them.  "Move."
She leaves Ops.  As Callen is about to divide up the work, Deeks checks to see if Mosley is gone and shares what he knows about Captain Miller.  He asked Eric and Nell to check out Miller.  Hidoko objects – none of them are supposed to have that information.  With a bit of disdain, Sam asks Hidoko if she's going to run and tell Mosley – even mimics running with his fingers along the big table in Ops.  Hidoko stays quiet.
Callen asks what Eric and Nell found on Miller.  Miller and Ross now with Zindower are all working in launch command centers.  He's in Colorado.  Alarms at the facility went off earlier today, FBI's Denver Office sent in SWAT officers.  Deeks is worried Miller and company took over the base.  Sam is more worried they took over the launch controls.  Deeks wonders if this is possible.  Sam lists several US failures when it comes to nuclear weapons – it is possible Miller and company have taken over the missiles. Hidoko thinks whatever is happening is big and long-term.  This took years to plan and is heavily financed.  Callen confirms Mosley's orders – tear apart the officers' lives.
In a very busy silo office, Malone is trying to set up a call down to the launch room.  Kensi hears a woman yelling that "he wouldn't do this!"  She finds a federal agent coldly explaining that "he may have developed an extreme political agenda."   The upset woman – Tiffany - is having none of it.  She wants to leave but is not being allowed to go.  Kensi asks to speak to Tiffany because she knows Kevin.  EAD Cole clears Kensi to speak to Tiffany.
Kensi explains they use to date and she loved him.  Tiffany doesn't remember Kensi.  Kensi tells her they dated about ten years ago and what she's hearing about Kevin is not the man she knew.  Tiffany agrees – she thinks this is crazy, she was pulled away from her two-month old baby boy.  Kensi understands, she just left behind her four-month old.  They bond on being new mom exhaustion. Kensi is very good at her job.
All of the officers were ROTC.  Nobody was out of the Air Force Academy.  They attended different universities.  There is one connection – a psychology professor named Ted Holmes taught at all of the universities but Miller, Ross and Zindower were not his students.   He is currently teaching in LA.  The team is off to see him.
Kensi and Tiffany are talking in a much more relaxed way about Miller when EAD Cole wants Kensi to speak to Miller via a phone link.  Malone is trying to talk to Ross but Ross has demands.  She wants to talk to the press about "ending the Muslim problem in one day.  Like a cancer, we will cut it out."  She understands it is extreme and brutal but it is the only way to save the US.
The plan is to launch the missiles to large Muslim cities.  Ross believes the world will be safer without Mecca, Tehran, Damascus, etc.  Malone asks if Miller feels the same way. He does.  War is war and the killing is going too slow.  This is more efficient.  Kensi asks to be put on the phone.
Kensi introduces herself as a blast for the past.  She explains she works for the government and they want her to help.  Kensi asks if he really wants to be responsible for a nuclear holocaust that will cause the deaths of millions of innocent people.  Miller wants to know how many terrorist acts have killed millions of innocent people.  Kensi asks if this is some sort of Christian point of view.  Ross ends the conversation.  She doesn’t want to hear from Malone until the group's statement has been released to the press.  Malone wants something for releasing the statement. Ross tells Malone she’s given him something - he has a front row seat to the end of the war on terror.
Holmes's teaching assistant told the team he'd be having a meal at a local coffee shop.  Callen, Sam and Deeks enter through the front door and see the professor reading at a table.  The men approach Holmes, badges out, to talk about Miller, Ross and Zindower.  Holmes asks if they were students of his – they weren't according to Sam but he taught at the universities the three attended.  Nell, over comms, tells the team that Holmes has aliases that post on right wing sites on the Dark Web.
Holmes tries to leave but Deeks insists he sit down.  Holmes wants a lawyer, Deeks wants a Maserati and asks Callen and Sam what they want.  Sam wants to be alone in a room with the Professor.  Callen thinks that sounds scary.  Deeks tells Holmes he doesn't know just how scary that could be.  Holmes runs from the men and runs right into Hidoko.  Hidoko gives him a punch in the throat that incapacitates Holmes.  She's cuffing him before Callen, Sam and Deeks arrive.
Malone asks Kensi if she thinks she can get Tiffany to talk to Miller – keep him occupied.  They need a distraction.  The FBI and Air Force are digging access to an established escape tunnel.  Kensi finds Tiffany and promises to help walk her through the call to Kevin.  Tiffany needs to treat things like a Sunday call to the family.  Kensi promises to sit with Tiffany through this.
Tiffany calls down to her brother over the loud speaker system.  Ross won't use the phone.  Kensi has Tiffany tell Miller she's there for her little brother, a little brother she misses.  Miller asks about his nephew.  The two exchange family stories including how much they love Tiffany's son.
Callen finds Mosley off the bullpen area.  He wants to know what's going on.  It is going to be hard to question Holmes when they don't know what to ask.  Mosley explains they've been over this – she can't share.  Callen offers his ideas – Miller, Ross and Zindower are trying to launch a missile.  Mosley slowly says she cannot confirm or deny what Callen is suggesting but if something like what Callen said would happen, it wouldn't be just one missile.  Callen understands and leaves.
In interrogation, Deeks asks Holmes how far right does his politics go.  Holmes thinks loving one's country does not fit on one side of the political debate or the other.  Deeks asks about fascism and Holmes doesn’t see that as part of the American system.  Deeks thinks there is a 'but' coming. There was – Holmes sees the efficiency of such a system.
In the main room of the boatshed, Hidoko tells Sam that Holmes ran a survey everywhere he taught.  It was designed to reveal the psychology of the political leanings of the student body.   Sam thinks Holmes used the survey to find like-minded ROTC students.  Deeks is hearing this on comms and confronts Holmes about it.
Callen arrives and pulls Sam into interrogation.  Holmes wants a lawyer. Callen tells him no and updates the team on Miller and company's plans.  Holmes wants to know if NCIS knows how many men and women he had to recruit to get Miller, Ross and Zindower positioned in their roles in the attack.  People had to get funneled to the right base, have back-ups, have people in other branches of the military.  This isn't a small operation.   Callen and Deeks rush out.  Sam stays behind.
Callen is worried that there are others involved, maybe in other agencies.  Hidoko thinks Holmes is lying but Deeks doesn't believe they can take that chance.  Callen wants Eric to call the Pentagon.  Every officer from an ROTC program where Holmes taught needs to be pulled from their assignments immediately.  Deeks is worried that if Russia or China hears about this, they could launch their own missiles against the US.  Callen is sure that the info won't leak.  Deeks wants to know how Callen is so sure.
Sam asks Holmes, "hypothetically", why would a group like the Patton Project want to launch nuclear weapons.  "Hypothetically", the professor explains, there could be people in positions of power who are tired of seeing such weapons sit idle while they could take out the world's big problems.  Sam thinks hunger, overpopulation, global warming wouldn't be helped by nuclear weapons.  Holmes agrees but "the Islamic problem" could be solved once and for all – cut it out like a cancer (the same line as Ross).  Sam asks if the professor sees him as a cancer, sees Sam's children as cancers because he is a devout Muslim.  The professor thinks Sam would be seen "in their eyes" as a cancer.
Kensi tells Tiffany to discuss positive childhood memories.  The siblings joke about a time they pretended to be kidnapped.  While they are sharing this nice moment, some dirt falls into the launch room.  That causes Ross to blow up the air vent.  Tiffany hears the explosion and has to be pulled from the room.
In Ops, Nell has a list of 72 officers who were at universities when homes was there.  It is an assortment of Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.  17 have "far-right" political leanings.  Hidoko wants to know how Miller, Ross and Zindower wound up in the same unit.  Nell explains that people don't join the Air Force to sit inside a silo.  Deeks says they join the Air Force to fly.   Officers volunteering for silo duty get it and usually can pick their location.
Callen wants the 17 officers to have their security clearances pulled until there can be a full investigation.  Sam is more concerned that there is a handler running all this.  Holmes finds the possible recruits for the Patton Project but someone else is running it.
Malone tells Kensi that Miller and Ross are still alive but the vent tunnel the Air Force and FBI were building has been badly damaged.  Malone wants Kensi to bring Tiffany back to speak to her brother but Kensi is worried Tiffany is too upset.  Kensi needs to talk to Tiffany alone.  Kensi tells Tiffany that Kevin is alive and the only way he stays that away is for Tiffany to connection with his humanity, to show him the bigger picture.  Kensi has faith in Tiffany.
Callen updates Mosley in Ops about the officers being taken out of the field.  Deeks is more worried about a pending nuclear holocaust.  Mosley explains the missiles will never leave their tubes.  Large trucks are on the silos' launch doors.  If anyone tries to launch a missile, the launch doors open but the trucks will fall in.  The fuel from the trucks will cause a fire that will have plutonium leaking in and around the base for miles.  They become 50-giant dirty bombs.
Deeks says Kensi has to be near the silo – how big of an area are they talking.  Nobody wants to look at Deeks.  When he pushes, Sam says the amount of fuel, wind patterns with a three to five mile lethal radius….per missile.  Deeks is horrified.  Sam suggests calling Kensi but Hidoko believes the local cell towers are being jammed.  Deeks demands Mosley find Kensi.  Mosley thinks Kensi is working with the FBI to avert the launch.  Callen doesn't think Kensi will ever leave.  Deeks doesn't care.  He wants to Mosley to pull Kensi from the case.  Kensi has to get out of there – she doesn't have to do this.  This isn't Kensi’s job. Mosley promises to do her best.  Deeks asks what's that worth.  Mosley admits not much.  He can do far more trying to call Kensi than she can do working official channels.
This is the best Mosley episode to date.
Malone pulls Kensi aside. He's been read in on her background and on what she does for NCIS.  He asks if she's claustrophobic.  She is a little but she'll fight through.  Malone says he's heard she can fight through anything.  The FBI has run a pipe into the tunnel.  It is 18-inches wide. Malone's men won't fit.  Kensi could.  She needs to go down there, blow the hatch and take out at least one of the officers to stop the launch.  Zindower's location is in worse shape than Miller's.  This is their only hope.
Eric and Nell found Miller, Ross and Zindower meeting with an NSA analyst, Curtis Dennard. He likely provided the Air Force personnel with the nuclear codes.  He's also been to Colorado.  LAPD SWAT is going in with NCIS to take down Dennard.  Deeks is being left behind by Callen.  He needs to talk to Kensi – keep calling.
Tiffany can't talk to her brother – the speaker is disconnected and they're not picking up the phone.  Miller is communicating with direct message on his computer to another officer.  He's sorry but there is no other way.  They try to tell him there is no other way.  Ross, meanwhile notices Miller has only reconfigured 14 missiles to her 17. She thinks they should launch.  He says they're only going to get one chance, they need all 50-missles to go.
Back in the communications area, Kensi is being pulled away – it is time to breach the air vent.  Tiffany begs Kensi to save her brother.  Kensi says she will try.  Kensi is told the hole is so small she can only carry her gun and a grenade and both will have to be carried ahead of her.  Kensi tells Malone she needs to make a call – it will be short and she won't share what she knows.
Kensi calls a terrified Deeks, who is sitting alone in the armory.  He begs her to get out, explaining that if the launch doors open it's going to be bad so she needs to get into a car.  Kensi tries to get him to stop talking.  He's still taking about driving away.  She's saying goodbye.  She can't leave because she can stop this from happening.  Deeks tells her other people can stop her – she doesn't have to do this.  She tells him she loves him to the end of time and back before hanging up.  Deeks throws his chair against the wall before trying to call her back.  Kensi leaves her ringing phone behind and goes to Malone.  She won't fit into the hole with a kevlar vest. She understands.
In kevlar, Sam and Hidoko lead a SWAT team into Dennard's apartment.  Dennard has a high powered weapon and fires at the officers.  He backs himself into a bedroom where he has acid.  He drop some of his computer files into the acid but Callen is outside having rappelled down from the roof.  He takes out Dennard.  Hidoko states she's impressed.
The FBI and Air Force blow up the hatch to the air ducts.  It causes a big explosion in the launch room.  Kensi is going down the pipe while Miller and Ross struggle to recover.  Ross wants to launch the missiles now, Miller won't help.  Kensi arrives and tosses a grenade between the two.  It blows, killing both.  Kensi is alive, safe and the missiles won't be launched – she calls it in.  "It's over, it's all over," she says, greatly relieved.
Kensi is cleaned up and being given both congratulations from the FBI and a big bottle of water.  She sees a devastated Tiffany Miller being put in a car to be returned home.
Mosley tells Callen and Sam that Zindower's launch center was breached.  He was killed in the action.  Sam explains that they were able to get some info from Dennard's computer.  There are six people in the Pentagon running the Patton Project and this operation.  They are all code names.  Mosley wants them hunted, found and killed if need be - a change in her “no killing” policy.  She leaves.  Hidoko says a "good job" would have been nice to hear.  Sam turns around and says "excellent work Agent Hidoko."  She is grateful.
Kensi arrives and sees a very concerned Callen and Sam.  She is happy to see them but is really looking for Deeks.  He's up on the roof.
In one of the best scenes in the series, Kensi and Deeks talk about Kensi and Deeks.  Deeks isn't going to fight with her over grilled cheese.  Kensi tells him saying goodbye was the hardest thing she ever had to do.  She's not sure how long they can do this.  Deeks is only in because she's in.  And Kensi isn't so sure how long she wants to be in.
Deeks explains he can't be Sam.  He doesn't know how Sam gets out of bed every day.  He doesn't know what they're doing.  She's all that matters to him – "you're everything to me."  He hates the hopeless and helpless feeling he had.  She is his world.  Kensi hugs him and tells Deeks he is her world.  "My whole world."
What head canon can be formed from here:   The seeds are really here for the blow-up in the parking lot in the first part of the season finale.  Talks about Deeks wanting out, Kensi talking him back in, Deeks wanting to know when she's going to be done with their dangerous lives when looking at Sam, he's ready to bolt right now.
Outside of that, Kensi's life in Japan.
Episode number:   199, episode seven of season nine (call Jeri Ryan).

I’ve never read A Good Man is Hard to Find so idk how to help there but maybe you could draw a reference to pop culture with like how so many villains are physically deformed (prime example here being 2 face from the batman universe) and how that’s affected our current perceptions of beauty and goodness? It really irks me to see only evil characters have burn scars and stuff like that because I know burn victims and like??? They’re kids? Who had bad luck with a campfire or a stove? Or firefighters???? Why would you code that as being evil, I don’t get it. (guess why Luca has burn scars in Storge lol there’s some fun meta stuff for you)
Another thing about Hyde that I like that osp pointed out is that “He’s a resident of the uncanny valley” like perfectly average and forgettable but just *wrong* enough somehow to be unsettling without you being able to pinpoint what that wrong-ness is. idk if that would be useful at all but it’s a good point!
Good luck figuring it out! Compare and contrast is hard!
I want to rant about my English essay cause I dunno what to write for it and ranting helps me figure out my points but no one has read the stories I'm writing on also if I get started on a rant I will not stop

Requests??? Okay, but like actually prompt/suggestion (if you'd like one):
Someone's sick with something and they wake up with a headache. They tell their friends to try to cancel out on a plan citing that they're 'tired and not feeling the best', but their friends are like "I'm sure you're fine" and "You can sleep in the car," etc. Cause they've been planning whatever trip for months.
Then the sick person is like "💪 Yeah! I can definitely do this!" So they get up and don't actually tell their friends that they actually feel horrible and sick. At wherever they went, after a bit the sick person is like "oh, maybe I can't do this" then decide to tough it out anyways.
Then they end up passing out because their headache turned into a migraine and uh oh pain dizzy. Then just to add insult to injury, their friends don't understand that it's a *migraine* at first. When they wake up to the bright lights of one of them checking for a concussion or something, they end up getting sick from the pain.
That was way more then I actually planned on writing, but I like my stupid descriptors. Also your writing is so fun and cool :D
Omg thank you! I’m using my new film crew characters for this bc I put it off so long lol
TW: fainting and emeto, of course
———
Lucas woke up with a banging headache. He also felt tired and a bit off in a way he couldn’t place. He figured out he was probably sick.
And to make this all the more inconvenient, Lucas knew he always gets dizzy or lightheaded in response to severe or prolonged pain. It had always happened since he hit puberty, and there was basically nothing he could do about it except try to mitigate the pain. It hadn’t kicked in yet, but he would have to keep it in mind.
Today was not a great day for that (not that any day is). Today was the first day of shooting for Penelope’s short film. He really couldn’t miss that.
Still, he didn’t want to expose his friends to any illness if they didn’t want to risk it. He laid in bed for a minute, trying to decide what to do, and eventually decided to call Penelope.
“Hey, Luke!” she answered almost immediately. “Are you on your way over?”
“No, I-“ he stuttered, confused.
He propped himself up in bed and looked at his clock.
9:30 already?
“I actually just woke up,” he admitted.
“What!?”
“I must have forgotten to set an alarm. Anyway, I’ve got a bit of a headache and I think I might be sick.”
“Oh, no,” she replied. “Are you still up for the shoot?”
“Oh, I thought you wouldn’t want me to come.”
“Well, I want you on camera. If you’re really not feeling good I’m sure me or Armando could do it, but I’d like to have you.”
“Alright, then yeah. I’ll just grab breakfast. I’ll probably be ready in about 30 minutes.”
“Okay, nice! See you there. And make sure to take care of yourself. I don’t want to have to bug you about that all day.”
“I will, I will. See you soon!”
“Text me when you’re on your way.”
“Alright.”
Lucas hung up the call.
He popped an ibuprofen, ate some cereal and brushed his teeth as quickly as he could, then headed out the door.
•••
“Hi Luke!” said Regan when they saw him.
“Hey,” he said to everyone with a wave.
“There you are!” Armando called out. “Of course you get here after we’re done setting everything up.”
Lucas gave a half-hearted chuckle. He knew he was joking because Lucas was usually one of the first people to arrive on set, second only to Armando and sometimes Penelope.
Regan and Jessica were in front of the camera and Armando was behind it, getting them into focus. Magnus was having his makeup done by Vio. Raj was holding the boom mic. Thomas was wandering around aimlessly. Penelope was watching the pop-up screen connected to the camera to see what Armando’s shot looked like.
“Have you started shooting yet?” Lucas asked Penelope.
“No, but we’re ready to,” she answered.
“Alright, let’s get going then!”
•••
Lucas had hoped that his duties as camera operator and director of photography would keep his mind off of how he felt, but they didn’t. He had to constantly fight to stay focused on the camera.
Armando was the AD, as usual, because telling people to pick up the pace came naturally to him. He was doing a fine job, but Lucas was making his job difficult. Armando kept having to tell Lucas to focus and listen.
Vio noticed Lucas’ slightly paler than normal complexion, frequent rubbing of his nose bridge and temples and lack of focus and energy early on. They were always observant about that sort of thing. They started asking him if he was okay every once in a while and making sure he drank water.
As time went on, Lucas’s headache grew worse. He asked Penelope for painkillers, but she didn’t have any. She told him to drink water. He did, and it didn’t seem to make any difference.
He started noticing how dizzy he was right around lunch time. Fortunately it was well-timed, because he could sit down while he ate a slice of the pizza they got delivered. He hoped that nutrition would help with his lightheadedness. He felt a bit better after sitting for a while, but alas, they had to continue shooting.
He did his best to get good shots and keep up the pace, but he kept feeling worse and worse. The greasy pizza became heavy in his stomach and he felt it churning around every time he moved. The dizziness kept getting stronger as well.
During a take, a wave of dizziness and lightheadedness hit him so hard he was sure he would pass out if he didn’t do anything about it. He couldn’t let that happen. If he passed out, he would drop the camera.
He squatted down and set the camera gently on the tile floor. He heard a couple of confused voices around him, probably Armando’s and Vio’s, but he couldn’t tell what they were saying. They sounded muffled and distorted.
He leaned his head down, breathed deeply and covered his eyes, blocking out the light.
He felt a hand on his back, then another one. The voices sounded worried and like they were asking questions. He wished he could answer them.
“I’m sorry, I just got really dizzy for a second,” Lucas explained.
He wondered if that even came out coherently.
Someone lifted his chin and took his hands away from his eyes. He tried to open his eyes to see who it was, but the light was just too bright. The dizziness only got worse. He started to feel weak.
The next thing he knew, he woke up laying on the floor.
As he regained consciousness, a bright light shone directly into his face. It felt like the light was stabbing through his eyeballs and into his brain.
The pain made everything spin and his stomach throw itself around before he could even react.
He squeezed his eyes shut and tried to block the light with his hand, but his arms were too weak to lift.
“Oh, god!” he exclaimed.
Muffled voices chattered around him again. The light shut off, but the stabbing pain lingered. His stomach couldn’t take it.
“I’m gonna puke, I’m gonna puke, I’m gonna puke,” he repeated urgently.
Someone rolled him over onto his left side just in time for his abs to clench, forcing greasy pizza mush mixed with stomach acid out onto the floor.
He groaned and finally opened his eyes. Luckily, now, people were standing over him, blocking the overhead lights.
“Was that it or are you going to puke again?” Vio asked, holding a trash can.
“I don’t know,” Lucas breathed heavily.
“Do you think you can sit up?” they asked him.
“No,” he said frankly.
“Oh. Should we- should we call an ambulance?” Vio said to Penelope.
“No, don’t,” Lucas objected.
“Are you sure? Passing out and then throwing up is really bad,” Vio opined.
“Yeah. I just have a really bad headache,” he said.
“Oh, could it be a migraine?” Penelope asked.
“It probably is,” he told her.
“That explains it,” she said.
“Really?” Vio questioned. “I know people throw up from migraines, but they don’t usually pass out.”
“Lucas always gets dizzy when he’s in, like, a lot of pain,” Penelope explained. “I’ve seen him pass out from it before, when he broke his butt.”
“What?” Vio questioned.
“He broke his ass bone and then passed out,” Armando said. “It was hilarious.”
“Yeah, it was pretty funny,” Lucas said with a chuckle.
“Oh, okay then,” Vio said. “You’ll have to tell me that story later. But for now, are you feeling any better?”
“Yeah. I’ll be fine,” he assured them, propping himself up on his elbow. “I’ll just take a break.”
“Of course,” Penelope said. “Armando, you can do camera. I’m sorry for even asking you to come in today, Lucas.”
“It’s okay,” he told her. “I’m sorry. I should’ve known.”
“It’s okay. You go take a break,” said Penelope, gesturing toward a bench down the hall. “We need to keep shooting.”
“Alright.”
Lucas slowly and carefully stood up. Vio steadied him with their hand on his shoulder, even though when standing, he was much taller than them.
He walked down the hallway, stumbling a few times. He was glad Vio was there to catch him.
They reached the bench and he sat down, then leaned his head down and covered his eyes like he did before.
He heard a sound that was undoubtedly a trash can being placed in front of him, then someone sitting down next to him on the bench.
“Thanks,” he said.
“No problem,” said Vio.
Vio stayed with him as much as they could. They would occasionally get called over to help fix a costume or answer a question about the production design, but they were by Lucas’ side for most of the time.
Eventually the migraine subsided and Lucas drove himself home.

semi femminizzati come funzionano

I caught up with the season finale of NCIS: New Orleans this weekend.  Pretty much the same finale set up of the prior two years, sans Sonja.  Someone on a boat was going to commit an act of terrorism on the New Orleans waterway (two seasons ago’s finale).  A powerful man used law enforcement agencies to impede Pride and his team (last season’s finale).  Feh.
The finale was a total waste of Lou Diamond Phillips.  Sorry they finished up with Matt Servitto (who I liked on The Sopranos).  Never liked Doug Savant and his appearance as a random powerbroker who was there and gone in two-hours makes the long fight to take down Mayor Steven Weber more interesting.
And the big cliffhanger was dumb.  Pride being shot is not the same as Gibbs being shot in the NCIS season 12 finale or the OSP team’s situation at the end of season nine of NCIS: Los Angeles.  Pride’s case was solved, the team was partying downstairs in Pride’s bar.  The other finales had not only the injured people where saving them was going to be difficult, there are still open aspects of the cases/missions/actions they were working.
And to get this back to @dominicvail ‘s original point, that Bakula “accent” comes and goes like the wind.  I think Lucas Black’s constant “accent” (along with Vanessa Ferlito’s New York “accent” - which sounds fine to me, everyone else has an accent) emphasizes Scott Bakula’s ever changing way of speaking.
Whose accent on NCIS NOLA bothered you? Because Lucas Black's is a completely genuine Alabama accent. I know Scott Bakula's is fake, but he dialed it back in later episodes. I think someone might've complained.
Bakula, i was talking about Bakula. A lot of Bakula shows have been aired in my house in my life and hearing the difference made it worse.

Acting Drunk
TW: alcohol, emeto
———
Magnus and Lucas walked onto set just on time. Well, they were technically late. Penelope already had the camera set up, Raj had the sound set up, and Regan and Jessica were in their costumes. Armando had the lights set up and was running around making sure everyone was doing their jobs.
“Hey, you’re here!” Penelope greeted them.
Then she noticed something strange. Magnus was staggering a little and had that stupid smile on his face that he always had when he was drunk.
“Wait, Magnus, have you actually been drinking for this, or are you just already in character?” she asked lightheartedly.
“Maybe a little bit of both,” he answered.
His words were just barely noticeably slurred.
“He’s had four beers already,” Lucas exposed him.
“Is that a lot?” Regan asked.
“It’s too much to drink before a shoot,” Armando said.
“Not for me,” Magnus countered. “I’m a very productive drunk.”
“I guess we’ll see about that,” Armando snarked.
“I don’t know about that, but I at least know he isn’t an asshole when he’s drunk,” Lucas remarked.
“But isn’t he supposed to be for this?” Jessica asked.
“That’s true,” said Lucas.
“I mean, I can be an asshole if you want me to be,” Magnus said jokingly, “but I figured you wouldn’t want me to be that kind of method actor.”
“You were right,” Jessica assured him.
“Oh, and check this out.” Lucas pulled two beer bottles out from behind his back. “We bought these for him to drink during the scene.”
“Oh my god.” Armando rolled his eyes. “He’s going to get way too drunk.”
“Hey, it was his idea to use real beer,” Lucas defended himself.
“I think he just tricked you into buying him a bunch of drinks,” Penelope joked.
“Maybe.” Lucas laughed. “But I’m the director, so let’s just say it was my ‘creative decision.’ Anyway, let’s get started.”
He was right about being able to act while drunk. In fact, he was so good at acting like an angry alcoholic dad that everyone on set was scared by it, especially Regan and Jessica. He apologized profusely after every take of yelling at them. At least it made for good reaction shots.
They moved to Armando’s living room (or more accurately, his parents’ living room), to shoot the next scene, in which Magnus’s character gets interrupted by his kids while drinking and watching a football game and then he chases them around.
Lucas wanted to have it all be one long take. Every time they messed something up, they had to do the whole scene again. Magnus kept basically chugging the beer at the beginning of the scene even though he didn’t need to, so he went through a whole bottle in three takes.
“Jesus, Magnus, you could slow down a bit,” Lucas said after the third take.
“No cause I’m trying to catch them,” Magnus objected.
“No, I meant with the beer,” Lucas clarified.
“Ah, it’s fine,” Magnus slurred. “Le’s jus’ do another take.”
In the next take he opened the second bottle. Luckily it was a good take and they could move on to the next scene.
“Alright, let’s move to the kitchen,” Lucas directed.
“Wait, first—“ Magnus stopped and covered a loud burp with his fist. “I think I’m gonna be sick.”
“Go outside if you’re really going to do that.” Armando pointed him toward the front door.
“A’right, c’mere and get it on camera,” Magnus said, motioning for Penelope and Raj to come with him as he stumbled toward the door.
“What?” Penelope asked.
“C’mere!” He opened the door. “Lucas can use it in the film.”
“…Okay. Go ahead,” Lucas told them.
“I can’t. I can’t watch someone be sick or I’ll be sick,” Raj explained.
“Luke, you take the mic then,” Magnus slurred.
Penelope picked up the tripod and followed him outside. Lucas took the sound equipment from Raj and followed them both.
“Rest of you, stay in there or you’ll ruin the shot,” Magnus told Armando, Jessica and Regan as he closed the door behind Lucas.
He stumbled over to a bush in the front yard and braced his hands on his knees. Penelope and Lucas started recording, still confused as to why they were going along with this.
Magnus let out a deep, wet belch. Usually something like that would make him laugh when he was drunk, but now he was clearly back in character. Suddenly, a torrent of vomit came gushing from his mouth. It was clearly just beer. He seemed utterly unfazed.
Jessica peered through the small window next to the front door. Magnus caught a glimpse of her out of the corner of his eye.
“Hey, get the fuck outta here!” he yelled, shooing her away with one hand before puking up what was probably a whole bottle of beer at once.
Jessica scurried away from the window.
“Okay, cut,” Lucas said, shocked at Magnus’s performance. “Magnus, are you good?”
“Of course,” Magnus responded with an amused smile. He quietly heaved up a few spoonfuls of alcohol. “D’you get the shot?”
“Yeah,” Lucas said.
“You really need to drink some water or have something to eat,” Penelope told him.
“I will. Hold on.” Magnus burped up a little more liquid. “M’kay, I think I’m done.” He stood up and started to stagger his way back inside.
Penelope guided him with her hand on his back and the other hand carrying the tripod.
“You’re going to have a hell of a hangover,” Lucas said, following them in with the sound equipment.
“Nahhh, i’s fine.”
———
I keep writing these ones that are perfect setups for sequels lol. Maybe I’ll write about Magnus’s hangover eventually, if anyone wants to see that.

That Time Lucas Broke his Ass and Passed Out
This is set in Penelope, Armando and Lucas’ sophomore (second) year, when Pen had just joined the film club, so she and Lucas have not know each other very long
Inspired by #7 and #2 on my favorite whump tropes list
TW: breaking bones, syncope/fainting, avoiding medical treatment (due to the cost)
———
All he was going to do was walk backwards while filming. He had done this many times before. Totally normal situation.
Little did he know, this time would be anything but normal.
“Camera?” the director, Henry, said.
“Rolling,” Lucas responded as he pressed the ‘record’ button on the device.
It was his first time using the university’s biggest, heaviest, fanciest, and most expensive camera.
“Sound?” Henry asked.
“Speed,” said the sound tech, Penelope.
“Scene one, shot one-A, take two, marker,” Armando, the assistant director, said.
He then let the top of the clapboard fall, making the distinctive loud click. He stepped to the side.
“Action!”
The actors began saying their lines and walking toward Lucas. He started walking backwards quickly to keep pace with them. His mind was focused intensely on keeping the shot steady and walking smoothly. His feet barely lifted off the ground.
His heel caught on something. Sounds of concern came from several people in the room.
In the next few seconds, several thoughts raced through his mind.
Oh shit, I’m falling!
I can’t drop this camera. It’s way too expensive!
Welp, this is going to hurt, but it’s a sacrifice I’m going to have to make.
In real time, it just looked like him falling unceremoniously on his butt without even trying to catch himself.
It was way worse than he thought it would be. His tailbone smacked the tile floor hard. The pain shot up like a bullet through his spine. He definitely felt the right side of the bone crack.
“FUCK!” he yelled out involuntarily.
“Ooch, that’s gotta hurt,” Henry said.
Lucas squeezed his eyes shut and breathed shakily and slowly, trying not to scream.
“Are you okay?” Penelope asked.
The lightheadedness started to creep in.
Oh, I should’ve expected this…
He carefully set the camera down next to him.
“I think I actually broke my ass,” Lucas said.
Henry couldn’t hold back laughter. Lucas cracked a slight smile. He couldn’t say it wasn’t funny, even though it was extremely painful.
“Seriously?” Henry asked incredulously.
“Yeah, seriously,” Lucas responded.
Henry laughed even harder.
“Here, I’ll help you up,” Penelope offered.
He finally opened his eyes to see that she was standing next to him, holding her hand out for him to take.
He didn’t want to move, but he couldn’t just sit there forever. He grabbed her hand and started to pull himself up. The pain spiked, as he expected it to, and he pushed through it and stood up.
That may have been a bad idea.
The lightheadedness increased as well, as it usually did in response to pain. The room started to spin. He stumbled forward a few steps as his vision filled with colorful sparks. Penelope caught him by the shoulder and steadied him.
“You okay?” she asked.
“Yeah, just a bit dizzy,” he answered, leaning his head down to try to get the blood flow back. “It happens to me sometimes.”
“You should probably sit down then.”
“I’d rather lie down, considering my ass is broken,” he quipped.
“Okay, yeah,” she said with a laugh.
She started leading him to the nearest bench, her hand on his back. He staggered again. His balance was practically nonexistent. Penelope put his arm over her shoulder so he could lean on her.
He tried to blink away the colored dots but they wouldn’t go away. His legs got weaker and his head spun faster.
He heard her say something, but he couldn’t understand. It felt like he was floating away and falling asleep at the same time.
***
He seemed to be leaning on her shoulders more and more. She looked over and noticed his face looked paler than normal.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” she said.
The blush vanished from his cheeks. His eyes rolled back and he went limp in her arms.
“Lucas!?”
Luckily, he was rather light and she was rather strong, so she lowered him gently to the floor so he was laying on his front.
“Did he just pass out?” Armando asked in disbelief.
“I guess so,” Penelope answered. “Lucas?”
Everyone started to gather around him.
“What the hell? Why would he pass out?” Henry wondered aloud.
“I don’t know,” Penelope said. “He said he was dizzy, and he said ‘it happens sometimes,’ and then he just… went out.”
“Oh, if it happens sometimes then this might be, like, normal for him,” said senior and director of photography, Olivia. “So maybe we shouldn’t freak out about it yet. Plus, I’ve seen him get dizzy before.”
“Did he faint though?” Penelope questioned.
“No, he just sat down for a bit and had a snack and he was fine,” Olivia explained.
“Look, I think he’s waking up,” Armando noted.
***
The first thing he was aware of was some voices talking around him. The second was the white-hot pain in his ass. (No, not inside his ass. In the bone.)
Then he opened his eyes. Things were somewhat blurry, but he could see the floor and two sets of shoes and someone kneeling in front of his face. He noticed his cheek was pressed up against the cold tile floor.
Why am I laying on the floor?
He blinked the blur away and recognized the person kneeling in front of him was Penelope.
Nothing made sense. He didn’t understand what anyone was saying, where he was, or why he was there. Penelope seemed to realize she wasn’t getting through to him and placed her hand on his back. The feeling of it helped him stop panicking.
That’s really nice of her. She looks so worried about me, too. What should I say to her?
“Hi, Penelope,” he slurred out.
“Oh, hey, he said something!” she said to the others. “Hi, Lucas. Can you hear me?”
“Yeah, I hear you,” he responded.
“Good.”
“How do you feel right now?” Olivia asked him.
“Uh.. weird,” Lucas replied.
The feeling in his head was hard to describe, and it certainly wasn’t a state of mind that lent itself well to putting difficult descriptions into words.
“Are you still dizzy? Lightheaded?” she asked.
“No, that’s not it,” he told her.
The feeling was slowly disappearing.
“Well, have you ever passed out before?” Penelope asked him.
He took a second to process the fact that that must be what just happened—he passed out—and then to remember whether it had happened before.
“Yeah, I have,” he said. “Twice, I think. And it’s always been when I was in a lot of pain.”
“Ohhh. I guess this makes sense, then,” Olivia figured.
Lucas propped himself up on his elbows.
“Yeah, and a couple of times, I’ve just gotten a bit dizzy when something hurts. A lot of times, actually.”
“Oh, alright,” Penelope said. “Well, if you think you actually broke a bone, I guess you should go to an ER or something.”
“What are they gonna do, put my ass in a cast? No. I’m not gonna pay a bunch of money for them to tell me it’s broken and send me home.”
“They’d probably give you prescription painkillers,” Olivia suggested.
“Maybe,” Lucas admitted. “But I’m fine without them.”
“Are you sure?” Penelope questioned. “You did just say you pass out from pain a lot. That sounds… rather inconvenient.”
“It’ll be fine. I have Tylenol.”
“If you say so.”
———
The end
I’ll definitely be doing some follow-ups to this set at different points in his recovery!

NCIS: Los Angeles Season Nine Rewatch:  "Vendetta"
The basics:  NCIS teams up with ATF and Anna Kolcheck to apprehend Sokolov from "Mountebank" earlier this season.
Written by:  Jordana Lewis Jaffe, not surprisingly, wrote "Mountebank" earlier this season.  She also wrote or co-wrote wrote or co-wrote “Honor”, “Patriot Acts”, “Dead Body Politic”, “Paper Soldiers”, “Unwritten Rule”, “Big Brother”, “Iron Curtain Rising”, “Exposure”, “Savior Faire”, “Beacon”, “Defectors”, “Exchange Rate”, “Black Market”, “Payback” and “Battle Scars”. Directed by:  James Whitmore Jr. directed NCIS‘s “Legend” part two which introduced the OSP team before directing “Identity”, “Found”, “Human Traffic”, “Empty Quiver”, “Plan B”, “Familia”, “Lone Wolf”, “Vengeance”, “Recruit”, “History” and "Battle Scars".

Our heroes:  Are back in business with the Kolchecks.
What important things did we learn about:
Callen:  Not hanging out with Anna much lately. Sam:  Wants to know more about Callen not hanging out with Anna much lately. Kensi:   Flowers at the grave. Deeks:  Bench sitter. Eric:    Bulletproof Beale. Nell: Calling the ATF tip line. Mosley:  Surprisingly cooperative. Hetty:   In a Vietnamese prison for months with a starving tiger, not under a rock.
What not so important things did we learn about:
Callen:  The early morning knock on the door was a Kolcheck but not the younger Kolcheck. Sam:  Arkady is not sure what he means to Anna. Kensi:  Spinning Circle of Death face may need a hard reboot. Deeks:  Had dinner and dessert at a possible wedding venue. Eric: No caffeine.  He's not allowed. Nell:  Arriving at the end with Arkady. Mosley:  Has footage of a singing Arkady. Hetty:   Owner of "Hetty Davis Eyes".
Who's down with OTP:  Kensi and Deeks go to a restaurant he looked at as a wedding venue.  Not much of a Kensi and Deeks episode.
Who's down with BrOTP:  Really more BroThreeP with Arkady hanging around.
Any pressing need for Harm and Mac:  No.  People here don't know what NCIS is, forget JAG.
Today in Harley:  Providing back-up for Eric in the field and is helpful during a shootout.
Fashion review:   Callen starts the episode in his sleeping gear – light grey tee-shirt, shorts.  Long-sleeve dark blue tee-shirt later for Callen.  Black henley for Sam.  Off-white long-sleeve shirt with grey and black stripes for Kensi.   Blue-grey long sleeve tee on Deeks.  Blue and red plaid short-sleeve shirt over a rust colored tee for Eric.  Dark blue dress with little flowers for Nell.  Grey plaid suit for Hetty.  Black dress with blazer for Mosley.  Pink sweater with chocolate brown pants for Hidoko – big win.  In the field, Eric is wearing a blue-green plaid shirt over a dark tee-shirt, long Bonobo khakis.  Arkady wears another towel – two in one season.
Music: None.
Any notable cut scene:  None.
Quote: Kensi:  "Have you, have you been here before?" Deeks:  "No, I have not been here before." Hostess:  "Deeks!" Deeks:  "Oh, God." Hostess:  "It is so great to see you again.  Hey.  And you must be Kensi." Kensi:  "Agent Blye, actually." Hostess:  "You were right.  She is all business." Kensi:  "Excuse me?" Deeks:  "You have no idea." Kensi:  "Excuse me?" Deeks:  "All right, listen, I have been here before." Kensi:  "Evidently." Deeks:  "But it's not what you think." Hostess:  "He came for dinner, but stayed for dessert." Deeks:  "See? I came for…What?" Kensi:  "Did you, now?" Deeks:  "That doesn't sound good.  Okay, just-- Here's the deal. I've been here before, because I was scoping out a potential venue…" Kensi:  "Mm-hmm." Deeks:  "…for our wedding." Kensi:  "Yeah-- What?" Deeks:  "Our wedding." Kensi:  "Oh, my God." Deeks:  "You have the Spiraling Circle of Death face.  I literally just melted your brain.  Your brain broke.  Got to do a hard restart.  Just reboot that."
Runner up:  Any exchange with Arkady.
Anything else:  The previouslys are a greatest hits collection of the Mountebank episodes.
Vladlena Sokolov walks into a fancy restaurant with a male companion and is air-kissed by the hostess.  After complimenting Vladlena on her clothes, the hostess brings Vladlena to a private room in the rear of the restaurant and leaves quickly.  In the back room waiting are her brother Abram and several of his bodyguards.  She thought she was meeting a friend but Abram forced the male companion to disclose where they were going.  He asks his sister to sit.  She reluctantly joins him.
Vladlena compliments him on his haircut.  They discuss business – Vladlena's business is doing well which is no surprise to Abram since she is a strong, smart woman.  They talk about her personal life – she's not seeing anyone.  Vladlena sends a text to Arkady saying she needs him.  Abram notices too late.  He put her phone a glass of water.  Accusing Vladlena of getting in the way of his business, Abram promises a lot of people are going to get hurt.  Abram brings in Vladlena's friend.  After one of the bodyguards strangles the friend, Abram wants to know if his sister likes the calamari.
Callen wakes up to Arkady banging on his door.  Arkady does not want to know if Anna is staying with Callen.  He's also amazed by the lack of furniture at Callen's house.  Describing Vladlena as a beautiful woman who "looks like she could kill a rabid coyote with her bare hands", Arkady tells Callen about the text.  Vladlena does not text people - she did not show up at her business.  She doesn’t miss a day at her business.  Arkady shows Callen the text message but Callen thinks Vladlena is looking for a booty call.  Arkady wants Callen to get his mind out of the gutter.   Callen says there is nothing to worry about from Abram – he is in Moldova.  Arkady disagrees – if she's missing, something is really wrong.
Callen is making coffee in the boatshed when Mosley arrives.  Coming out of the locker room/bathroom area is Arkady who has just taken a shower.  He compliments Callen on the water pressure – he didn't even need his loofah.  Arkady is wearing a bright beach towel and one of those turban-towels on his head.  Callen provides the introductions.  Mosley knows who Arkady is and Arkady is proud she already knows about him "and the vital assistance I provide NCIS Los Angeles."  She doesn’t have to thank him – it is his wondrous pleasure.  Telling Callen he doesn’t want to hear to the audio, Mosley has video of Arkady drunk, banging on the boatshed door.
Callen updates Mosley on Sokolov.  The overwatch spray has worn off but his last known location is Moldova with an unconfirmed sighting in London.  Callen and Arkady tell about the suspicions of about Vladlena's text and not showing up at her club.  Callen is sending someone to the financial firm where Abram Sokolov was laundering his money to make sure nothing happens to Leigha Winters.  Mosley isn't sure she wants to spend resources because a Russian criminal sent Arkady a text message.  Arkady thinks Mosley's tone makes it sound weaker than it is.  Mosley tells Callen to do what he needs to do.
At the office, Kensi and Deeks are walking down the stairs, meeting up with Sam and Hetty in the bullpen.  Kensi tells the others that Sokolov is back in town.  When Deeks tries to explain the case to a just back at work Hetty, Hetty assures him she's up and running on the team's cases while she was gone.  "I was locked in a cage with a starving tiger, not under a rock.  I know exactly who this bastard is."
Callen and Arkady show pop up on the bullpen video screen.  The reactions are real to Towel!Arkady.  Hetty calls him a sight for sore eyes.  He asks if Hetty saw Mosley's security video.  It seems Drunken!Arkady was singing "Hetty Davis Eyes" as the boatshed door.  Even sang a little for the group.  The man is a treasure.  Callen didn't need to hear that.  Callen updates the others on Vladlena and Mosley agreeing that they can take the case.  "Look at you two playing nice," Deeks teases Callen.
Sam thinks Sokolov may want his money.  Arkady thinks more revenge on the "schmuck idiots who botched his operation last time."  Deeks like the latter over the former, as do the others.  That means revenge against NCIS, Vladlena and Leigha Winters.  Sam can't go back undercover – his alias decided to return to Chicago.  Both Vladlena and Winters know Callen, Kensi and Deeks are NCIS.  If either woman is compromised, they could sell out one of those three to Sokolov.  Kensi suggest sending in Nell undercover an as IT Girl.  Hetty likes the IT angle but wants to send Eric.  "He's due."  Deeks isn't too sure but Hetty wonders what is the worst thing that can happen.
With the overwatch spray worn off, the team can't track Sokolov but according to Nell, there is no proof he has returned to the US.  Mosley isn't so sure – she tasks Nell with checking the hotel where Sokolov stayed the last time he was in LA.  "Men are nothing if not creatures of habit."   Eric is about to do a hotel check when Mosley tells him he's going into the field with Hidoko as his back-up.  Eric is a little surprised.  Nell tells him to have fun.
A panicked Eric runs into Callen and Sam.  He needs to know his backstory, his cover, his caffeinated beverage of choice.  Sam asks what is the first rule of being undercover?  Callen replies you don’t talk about being undercover.  Sam explains that he is going to be watching out for Leigha Winters.  Callen wants him to slow down the servers in the financial firm's building and then spend the rest of the day fixing them.  Eric thinks if he slowed them down how could he be fixing them.  Sam suggests no caffeine.
With Kensi, a nervous Deeks walks into the restaurant where Vladlena was walked into a back room with her brother.  Kensi notices Deeks is acting weird and asks if he had been to the restaurant before.  Deeks claims he hadn't been there but the hostess from the prior night warmly greets Deeks.  "And you must be Kensi," the hostess says to "Agent Blye".  Deeks admits he's been there before.  The hostess says he was there for dinner but stayed for dessert in a way that is a bit misleading.  Deeks explains he was looking at the restaurant as a venue for their wedding.  Kensi doesn’t really react.  Deeks thinks she has that spiral ciricle of death look because he melted her brain.  Deeks suggests Kensi do a hard reboot.
Deeks tells the hostess he's a cop – something she said he mentioned several times when he was there – and he is looking for Vladlena Sokolov.  Vladlena was there the night before and takes Kensi and Deeks to where Vladlena ate.  Kensi and Deeks look at the back room.  Kensi wants to know who reserved the backroom but the hostess says they get paid not to ask questions.  Deeks sees some blood spatter on the curtains on the side of the room.  They haveto admit it but Arkady was right - Vladlena is likely missing and Leigha Winters could be next.
Eric walks up to the guy who loved his spreadsheets at the Leigha Winters’s financial firm.  Spreadsheets Guy noticed the slowing of servers.  He blames radicals on a nearby college campus.  They are trying to overthrow the economic system.  All Eric wants to do is talk to Leigha Winters.  Winters walks up and asks if there is a problem.  Eric is introduced as the guy who is going to save their internet.  Winters take Eric to their computer area.
In a fancy LA hotel, Callen is walking around the lobby looking for a place to sit, Sam is reading a paper and Arkady is having a cocktail.   Sam comments that Sokolov does not scrimp on his travel expenses.  Arkady claims to have stayed in nicer hotels.  Sam hopes Arkady's drink is water.  "Most of this is water."  Nobody in the lobby is recognizable – mostly tourists and wedding planners.  A server arrives with a warm cookie for Callen – baked in-house.  He's grateful.
Winters sets up Eric in an office.  She's distracted as Eric asks about the computer issues.  The server started slowing down around 9AM local time.  Eric tells her the whole building has been affected – he has to put in some new security protocols office by office.  Winters understands and offers Eric some coffee.  He explains he's not allowed to have caffeine.  "Strict orders."
As Winters leaves, Eric contacts Nell.  They are going to look at recent trades.  They are checking for more mirror trades for Sokolov but find none.  No activity on Sokolov's accounts either.  Nell thinks Sokolov may do exactly the opposite of what he did last time by getting what he wants first and then worrying about the money.  That makes Leigha Winters expendable.  Nell is going to get Callen.
In the hotel, Nell updates Callen.  Arkady has a serious question about Nell – "is she a natural redhead?"  Callen and Sam pretend they don't hear that.  Callen fills in Sam just as a man with a gun and a military haircut comes down the escalator.  He looks around and goes back up.  Callen, followed a few seconds later by Sam and then Arkady follow the man.  The man notices he's picked up company and decides to take the stairs to his destination.  Now Callen, Sam and Arkady are hustling to keep up.
They follow him to a hotel suite.  After the man knocks and enters the room, Callen, Sam and Arkady sneak in.  Inside the suite, they find Anna Kolcheck with the man.  Anna is surprised to see Callen.  Both are working a case.  Arkady turns to Sam and asks if things have suddenly turned uncomfortable.  Sam thinks they have.  The man asks what is going on.  Arkady introduces himself as Anna's father, Callen as Anna's boyfriend and he's really not sure what Sam is to Anna.
Anna explains to the man that Callen and Sam are NCIS and her father is, well, she wants to know why Arkady is there.  The man thinks NCIS is cool.  He's Gary Baker, ATF, really young and enthusiastic.  Anna says they're working an alcohol and tobacco case (the A and T in ATF).  Sam says Anna and Baker are after Sokolov.  "Oh snap, you guys are good," is young Gary's reply.  They are all working the same case.
Mosley wants to talk to Hetty about something.  "Mr. Beale is up to the task," Hetty says preemptively.   Hetty read Mosley's mind since she thinks his file is a little thin.  Hetty reminds Mosley that at one point so was Mosley's and so was Hetty's own file.  Mosley asks how does Hetty know when someone is ready for fieldwork.   Hetty admits compared to the others, Eric is an outlier but he's as important to the team as the others.  "You leave out one ingredient out of the recipe and the cake crumbles."  Mosley wonders what ingredient is Eric.  "Depends on the day," is Hetty's reply.
Anna explains that $3 million is alcohol and cigarettes were stolen from the Port of Los Angeles.  Sokolov has the connections to distribute them.  In the Ukraine, US cigarettes are more valuable than US dollars.  Sokolov can take the cigarettes and turn them into a big stack of cash for likely no good.  Leigha Winters may be completely useless to Sokolov now – she's expendable.  Arkady really doesn't care about any of this, he just wants Vladlena.  Callen is going to tell Eric to stick to Leigha Winters.  Gary says a warm goodbye.
Eric runs into the odd set of brokers Sam dealt with.  Finance Bro loves Eric's pants ("Are those Bonobos?"), the lone woman broker is wondering if Eric is joining HR, Spreadsheets Guy thinks UCal Berkley could behind the slow servers.  Eric raises his voice and demands Winters.  The woman broker doesn't want to be yelled at and recommends Eric check Winters's office.  He already did, she's not there.  Spreadsheet Guy mentions they use to go to lunch together all the time but now she never leaves her office.
Eric is worried.  He calls Hidoko, who has eyes on Winters just outside of the office.  Eric talks to Winters in the little smokers gulag outside about 100-feet from the office entrance.  Eric explains he's NCIS.  She realizes that if Eric is in the office, Sokolov is back in the US.  There are plans to bring her to the boatshed.
While Arkady chats on his cell in interrogation, Sam gets an update on the great state of CalleAnna.  They haven't seen much of each other since Anna started working with the ATF.  ATF is based in Glendale and that's too far from Callen's home.  Kensi and Deeks walk in with Winters.  Sam assures her she's safe as she takes up residence on the boatshed couch.  Kensi and Deeks checked Vladlena's house and her poker palace – no sign of her.  Arkady joins the group and Sam invites him to leave.  He's not leaving until he finds Vladlena – she's in this mess because he got her to help NCIS.
Arkady explains he was on the phone with his barber.  The barber's sister is a talented psychic with celebrity clientele like the Kardashians except Khloe, who is Arkady's favorite.  One of the psychic's clients saw Sokolov leaving a spa after a massage.  Kensi's not sure what they're supposed to do with that info.  Callen says they'll check the spa out.  Kensi and Deeks are on babysitting duty for both Arkady and Leigha Winters.
The spa Arkady gave them was a run-down, long closed establishment.  Callen called ATF – Anna and Gary arrive right after NCIS.  Sam is fine with partnering  up with Gary, leaving Callen with Anna.  Callen, in a non-judgmental way, wants to know about Gary.  If Anna is going to be partnered up with someone, he wants to make sure he's up to the task.  Anna tells Callen that Gary is solid.  Callen admits they don’t…."hang out" …. much anymore.  Anna blames the ATF, being in Glendale and of course Gary but Callen shouldn't read much into it.  Callen won't.
Callen and Sam find the front door opened – Sam and Gary discover the same in the back.  Walking through the spa, they four find nothing until Callen opens a sauna door.  A badly beaten Vladlena is tied to handrail in the sauna, still wearing the nice outfit from the restaurant.
With a fluffy towel and Anna's arm around her, Vladlena calls her brother all sorts of names.  Anna tells Vladlena she's safe.  Gary tells her she's lucky Abram didn't kill her.  Vladlena know she wasn't supposed to survive her time in a hot sauna with no way to get out.  Apologizing, Vladlena gave up both NCIS and Leigha Winters.  She's sorry but her brother broke her.
Mosley arrives in Ops and explains ATF just thanked her for the hot tip.  Nell says she was just about to go to see Mosley about the tip.  Nell thought the easiest way to find Sokolov was to find the stolen cigarettes and alcohol.  One would need a large storage facility for that much product.  Nell checked out warehouse facilities near the Port of Los Angeles and found one that was not being used until the day of the cigarette/alcohol theft.   Since Kensi and Deeks are with Leigha Winters, Callen and Sam rescuing Vladlena  and ATF had a team in the area, she called ATF.  Mosley smiles – nice work.  Nell is relieved.
As Vladlena was being loaded in an ambulance, Arkady arrives via Uber (and a mini-Cooper).  He wants to tend to Vladlena.  Anna updates Callen and Sam on Nell's tip – all that was found in the warehouse was sunscreen boxes – which was how Sokolov moved his ill-gotten gains in "Mountebank".
Arkady tells Callen is going to the hospital with Vladlena.  Callen thanks Arkady sincerely.  Anna wants to speak to her father.  She's impressed with the caring Arkady.  Arkady warns Anna she's too young to be going soft.
As the ambulance makes its way to the hospital, they are driven off the road by Abram.
Arkady calls Anna, who is in the boatshed with Callen, Sam, Kensi, Deeks and Leigha Winters.  Callen picks up quickly that Nell needs to trace the call.  Before Nell can run a trace on Anna's cellphone, the call ends.  Anna tells the team that Sokolov wants to trade Arkady for Leigha Winters.  Leigha Winters freaks out but Kensi calms her down.  The exchange goes down in 30-minutes at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.  Sam thinks at least they know where to find Sokolov.
Leigha Winters is sitting in a sedan with Anna.  Callen is lurking near a tree.  Sam is dressed as a worker at the cemetery.  Kensi has flowers near a grave, Deeks is nearby on a bench, Gary is behind the car.  Nobody sees Sokolov.  Sam doesn't think this is right.  Deeks agrees – nobody sets up an exchange like this and shows up late.  Callen realizes this is a diversion – Sokolov doesn't want Winters, he wants money.  Callen and Sam make their way to the firm, Kensi and Deeks are taking care of Winters.
Callen calls Eric – tells him to get everyone out of the building because Sokolov is on the way.  Eric tells Callen Winters isn't there but Callen reminds him the money is.  Eric tries to get the staff's attention but they've got work to do so nobody is leaving.  Eric explains he's not the IT guy, he's with NCIS.  Nobody knows what NCIS is.  Financial Bro calls security when Eric can't flash a badge.
Hidoko arrives – she has her badge and everyone leaves on her orders.  Eric is about to be the last one to leave the office when Sokolov arrives. He wants to know where the brokers are.  Eric uses the computer issues to explain everyone has gone home.  On comms, Hidoko tells Eric to be cool.  Pulling a gun on Eric, Sokolov tells Eric he needs to help him make a transfer.
Hidoko calls Callen, who is two minutes out.  She also pulls the fire alarm.  Eric tries to sell that he's just the IT guy – he doesn't do financial transactions.  Sokolov thinks if Eric is smart enough to fix the computers, he is smart enough to move $30 million.  As Eric types, Sokolov is tapping his gun on Eric's cheek.
Callen, Sam, Anna and Gary meet Hidoko in the stairs.  She's not sure how many men are with Sokolov.  As the team enters the offices, Solokov's men start shooting.  The team shoots back and nearly hits Sokolov as he stands near Eric.  Sokolov drops his gun as he leaves the room.  Anna chases Sokolov as he tries to leave the building.  Callen follows.
One of Sokolov's men has the team pinned down.  Eric picks up Sokolov's weapon and shoots the gunman, allowing Sam and the others to properly defend themselves.  Gary shoots one of Sokolov's men while the other just surrenders.
Anna closes in on Sokolov.  She tells him to put his hands up and drop to his knees.  Sokolov starts to comply but explains that he is going to kill everyone.  He puts his arms down and makes a move toward his belt.  Callen is near the door when he hears two shots fired.  Opening the door, he finds Anna standing over a dying Sokolov.  Callen cannot find a weapon near Sokolov.
Sam compliments Eric on getting the staff out of the building.  Eric explains Hidoko did that.  Hidoko says Eric stayed behind to keep Sokolov busy. Gary thinks Eric's move took guts.  Sam is proud of Bulletproof Beale.  Nell arrives with Arkady.  The ambulance was left in a parking lot.  Vladlena is in the hospital.  Sam admits he never thought he'd say this but he's happy to see Arkady.  "Everybody comes around, eventually," Arkady tells Sam.  The man – a delight.  Nell checks on Eric.
Anna returns to the financial office with Callen.  Arkady knows something is wrong.  Everyone does.  While the whole team looks worried, Arkady smiles.
What head canon can be formed from here:   Arkady and Vladlena.  Arkady and E! with Keeping up with the Kardashians.  Eric getting back in the field.  Deeks looking for restaurants for the wedding.
