This might sound weird but I promise this is in good faith--is there absolute confirmation that Saint and/or Osiris are gay specifically? Obviously they're together and both men in canon and anybody who pays attention to canon can't dispute that, but is it confirmed they're gay in particular and not, say, bi or something? I just ask because most fandoms I'm in sadly tend to collapse all multi-gender attraction identities into strictly gay/lesbian or straight based on either shipping or who a character is paired with in current canon. (Destiny has so many queer characters its a little hard to keep track of who is what sometimes, which is actually something I love so much--I wish more media were like this!)
There is!
I think the original confirmation is enough because Brookes immediately said they're gay. If they were anything else, he would've specified, especially since he himself is bi.
Another example is my bestie making a tweet about how Saint and Osiris are gay men and Brookes liked it.
And ofc, the article they made for National Coming Out Day where they gave a few LGBT+ characters unambiguous labels which states that Saint is gay (for comparison, Mara is given the bi flag and Drifter is given the pan flag so if Saint was either, he would've had that. This was also just a small portion of them and Brookes said that Osiris, Ana and others will be getting their flag at another date. Maybe for this year's National Coming Out Day!).
Bungie is pretty good with this and the variety we have! This article gave us some full confirmations about some of them like Mara and Drifter. We always knew Mara was wlw, but we never knew if she was a lesbian or bi/pan so this clarified that for us! Drifter was also obviously bi/pan and I pretty much did not see that as disputable and this article confirmed it!
We also know for a fact that Lord Shaxx is bi/pan (and polyam!) and so was Calus. It's highly likely that some other characters might fit in here; there's others that we know are LGBT+ but we don't know which label exactly. For example, we know Devrim and Marc are husbands, but either of them could be bi/pan. Ikora is wlw for sure, but we don't know much more than that. Eris is another one somewhat implied to be wlw, possibly bi/pan as well.
Fandoms can definitely be really weird with this, yeah. I've seen examples of situations where people try to insist that a gay/lesbian character MUST be bi/pan, and this usually boils down to people's personal ships. But I've definitely also seen the other way around as well where people just kinda want to ignore that someone is bi/pan.
Destiny definitely has rep for everyone, which is truly extraordinary given that it's not a romance-focused game and isn't even an RPG. Hopefully, we'll get even more in the future and some of the ones we have will get fleshed out!

As Pride Month draws near, I'm totally writing this shit at 3am when I should be asleep for multiple reasons, but fuck that I'm gay and want to write fluffy gay shit.
Magnus and Cayde-6 have been dating for a while now, and as the days near June, the Last City grows alife with rainbow streamers, pride flags, rainbow hearts, and more. The pride parade is coming, but neither of the two have ever been to one. Their responsibilities as Guardians always came first, and neither really had a reason to partake in the celebration until they'd met one another.
Saint-14 and Osiris have overheard this. Without telling either Vanguard, they visit Zavala and Ikora, then ask them to give Magnus and Cayde the day off for the parade. These grandpas want to show the younglings around and how to have a great time at their first pride, and celebrate their love.
On the day of the parade, Magnus and Cayde awaken and immediately prepare themselves to visit Zavala, when, suddenly, a knock comes to their door. Before Magnus can even grab the knob, Saint-14 has already broken down said door, and thrown rainbow confetti in the young gays' faces while Osiris steps through behind him, donning rainbow feathers on colorful Warlock robes, while Saint puts one arm around him, his helmet plume dyed rainbow, and Titan mark also rainbow. Both grandpas tell Magnus and Cayde it's time they have a great day for once, and participate in their first pride parade.
Both couples are holding their respective boyfriend's hands the entire time, waving pride flags as they dance together, buy random food from food trucks, and Cayde impulse purchases way too many gay and trans themed things for himself and Magnus, especially buying the items Magnus claims he doesn't need and which aren't necessary. But lovingly, he carries them the entire day since he's beefy, stronk, autistic Titan man, who loves his ADHD boyfriend. When he and Cayde look over at Saint and Osiris, Saint is doing just the same for his beloved, arms full of a mountain of random gay themed trinkets. But unlike Cayde, Osiris has thought out every purchase thoroughly, already decided where everything will go in his ship and home, and happily and supportively, Saint is helping Osiris decide these things.
By nightfall, all four are laying down on the grass watching fireworks, smiling, basking in how much they love each other, love being with their boyfriends, and Magnus and Cayde thank Saint and Osiris. Neither ever thought they'd have reason or time to attend a pride parade, but somehow, they have.
That's when Osiris outright says he and Saint asked to get both of them off duty for the day to celebrate. He proceeds to give them a short speech about how, if you dedicate yourself to work and nothing but, burying yourself so deep inside it, you'll never see what's right in front of you: a life, a future, of love not just for someone close to you, but for yourself. Be proud of who you are and how you are, love the moment, and bask in the happiness of being in love. He learned this from Saint.
And every year now, Saint-14, Osiris, Magnus, and Cayde-6, all go together and celebrate pride in June. They never go without each other.
#d2#my guardians#magnus thorbjorn#cayde 6#saint 14#osiris#o14#i mostly need to be asleep because im hopped up on painkillers and trying to escape immense bodily agony rn#but writing takes priority because i fucking love to write and i am nothing if i cant be gay and write especially if its writing gay shit

Brookes said that they'll do another round of wallpapers for these characters later!
I love that he also said there's others. I mean, we know there are (Shaxx! Ikora! Calus! (T_T) Possibly Eris and Suraya! And that's just those that have in-game models), but still. It's encouraging.
It'll be really nice to be able to put some of these to rest, because for most we don't really know the specifics. We've only known that Saint and Osiris are gay men, due to the online drama that happened where Brookes had to literally tell people on twitter that these two are in a relationship so he would stop being accused of queerbaiting (as a queer man himself...).
But others, hard to tell. I've always said that Drifter and Shaxx are bi or pan, but Destiny universe doesn't actually use our modern real life terminology so we can't ever get them to tell us which one exactly. This is a neat way to solve some of the confusion. Same with Mara; we knew she's wlw, but which flavour of wlw? Even with Eramis it was unclear; she has a wife, but Eliksni are exceptionally long lived and we can't possibly know if she ever had anyone else before or since and if she's interested in more than women. I like how both Mara and Eramis are known for loving another woman, but one is bi and the other is a lesbian.
Ana is the only one shown to be specifically lesbian by the game itself; she had a girlfriend before being a Guardian and she has one now; I think that's the only example of someone explicitly shown having more than one partner in their life so both of them being women would heavily imply that Ana is meant to be lesbian.
I'd really love for them to add more variety to genders. We definitely need more trans rep. The only known trans man right now is Oryx... And the only trans woman is Micah-10 (who doesn't have an in-game model). It would be nice to get character wallpapers with the trans flag.
Wanna talk a little about the Cloudstrider we got confirmed is nonbinary by today's post (plus NB flag):
This hasn't been specified yet, but the press kit has some information on them and more photos. Important to note is that this is an actual character, not a concept or a representative for all Cloudstriders. Their name is Nimbus!
We don't know what pronouns they'll be using yet, so I'm using they/them here. It would be really cool for them to use some neopronouns. The above image but bigger:
This means that as far as we know, only this specific character is nonbinary, not all Cloudstriders. Obviously this is a subject that can change, but since this is a specific named character, it's safest to assume that only they are NB, and not all Cloudstriders as a rule.
I really liked their design from the start and was intrigued by how Bungie approached to the visual representation of gender. They clearly avoided a lot of traditionally strictly masculine/feminine features. It made me immediately excited about the possibility that Neomuna will feature more characters that are visibly trans.
#destiny 2#nimbus#lgbt+ rep#long post#bungie please just more trans characters#they were so good with micah. it's not a huge plot point she's just trans#they can do the same with any other character
