HINTS SHOW THAT OSCAR IS A MAN FROM START (MAYBE YOU ALREADY KNOW)
When Oscar revealed that he is a man, many people must have been very surprised, including me. Well, now I read the manga again, I notice there are actually many hints, we just don't pay much attention to them, so let's take a look at those hints 👇
First thing is the name. At first I thought sensei chose a random name or didn't know English names well, so Oscar has a name commonly used for boys even though he looks so feminine and pretty. Turns out, it's a big hint.
Second thing is Oscar's way of addressing him. In many scenes (for example, these above photos), Oscar calls himself 僕 ("boku", meaning "I", often used by men, masculine female characters can also call themselves like this). Many people who read the English version will miss this.
Finally, Dunward often seems to dislike him and even said that Oscar's blood would make him vomit. Anyone who reads the manga knows that Dunward likes women and only drinks women's blood, not men's blood (it isn't his thing), plus he treats men much more harshly and rudely. After forging a pact with Oscar, Dunward definitely knew that he is a witch, and witches' blood is very valuable to vampires, so why didn't Dunward drink it? The answer is because Oscar is a man.
This part is really surprising, because from the beginning of the story until this arc, we had all assumed that witches are females, so we totally ignored the possibility that Oscar is a witch (and if he was both a witch and a woman, Dunward would have drunk his blood from the beginning :v). This is such a good twist, sensei.

I hope Dunward's daughter bullies him once they meet. She is now a teenager who has seen the world outside Orlencia. I deserve one hell of a rebellion crisis and her calling Dunward on his bullshit.
Dunwald's daughter should befriend Oscar, not like as a replacement dad or anything but they sit together and talk about how stupid he's being while Oscar helps her carefully rearrange all the future in Dunwald's room and exchange advice on how to egg him on with further rebellion or keep him from ruining perfectly good plans

Since witches are so tightly related to some parts of the worldbuilding (and Guideau’s true form is their “natural enemy”, or so Ashaf said), here’s a recap post of all the witches we have met so far (out of a total of 17), to keep track of where the story is going. :)
1) Ione, the (power unspecified) Witch from ch1 and 2
2) Phanora Kristoffel, the Profound Witch
3) Helga Velvet, the Dauntless Witch
4) Angela Ann Huel, the Eternal Witch
5) Falvell Farmington, the Mystic Witch
6) Oscar Orlencia, the Great Witch
7) Lucia Spendrow, the Giant Witch
In vol 9, there’s another witch, by Lucia’s sides, whose powers seem related to the moon, although both her name and face remained unnamed for now.
(I’ll update this post with new witches once they appear. :D)

5 headcanons for a TWATB roleswap au, however you want to do it?
1 - Ashaf is lost in one of the level worlds that is essentially a death trap. It's a world where everything is trying to kill you and the very air is toxic. Thankfully, he has Guideau with him to protect him and to keep him alive. Still a simp. He came here because of some kind of artifact of great power that interests many people so it's a bit of a treasure hunt where he slowly gets hints about Guideau's backstory.
2 - Johan is a necromancer and a witch and Phanora is someone he brought back to life. She is still in charge and treats him like a butler but can now punch people. There are several hints that she also used to be a necromancer/someone very powerful but in this AU, she enjoys beating people up with her hands and hides her past.
3 - Helga is an ex paladin on the run who found herself in possession of a very cursed sword. She defected when she saw what the executioners did a a clan of witches. Ice guy whose name I do not remember is a witch and lives by a very strict code. He also feels responsible of keeping all magic items out of the wrong hands so he is hunting Helga to retrieve the sword. Helga is not happy about this.
4 - Oscar used to be the king of vampires (and wore all the dressed he wanted, thank you) when he got bored with both the gnir and the conclade and decided to go and see the world. He abdicated, to everyone's confusion, and Dornez got the throne. Oscar and her still get along and chat around what is definitely not glasses of wine every time Oscar visits back. Dunward is a witch with a strong sense of what witches should do and the usual bs Dunward talks about. Completely powerless during the night. He follows Oscar outside Orlencia and teams up with him because his daughter got tired of him and ran away.
5 - At some point, Guideau and Ashaf got out of their level. For reasons only known to them, Guideau is the one to steal Angela's body, keeps all of their powers, and is just running around doing whatever they want. Angela is the one who is cursed and very pissed about it. Probably doesn't end in Guideau's original body, though.

Me @ Satake Kousuke and how he adresses gender in Majo to Yajuu:
First is Guideau and now Oscar. I gotta admit, I’ve been had!!!! ^3^
Oscar, despite having a masculine name, is depicted as rather feminine when we first meet him which entirely shapes our view of him as “being born female” and hardly ever questioning it again before the truth is revealed. Back then I simply thought, “maybe Sensei doesn’t know that Oscar is a masculine name in Western countries”.
Then Oscar spends the arc changing between pants and dresses, after Count Clensen observes that dresses suit women better when talking to Oscar at the Gala.
Additionally, there are several scenes where he attempts joking around with Dunward who always so rudely rejects him. When, as a reader, you still think Oscar is a girl, then these scenes just show Dunward as a bully.
Once it’s revealed that Oscar is a guy and his androgynous appearance is related to having inherited his ancestor’s “style and preferences” though, the explanations behind these banters change, since we know Dunward isn’t as interested in men compared to women.
Anyhow, it’s very impressive how a first introduction with a braid, a flower and a very cute face where enough to make readers think “oh, cute girl” despite no one using feminine pronouns to refer to Oscar.
It made a strong impression on me, even more so considering that all the witches we had met so far were women.
Amazing arc and I usually despise anything Vampire related! I wasn’t expecting such a development either about Dunward’s goal (though, no matter how you look at the issue, he’s a still freaking asshole) and I’m thrilled to think these two will remain in the story for a bit longer!
Final thought for now goes to Ashaf and Guideau, obviously, as the main duo stealing my breath every damn time with their ambiguous dynamic.
Yet one more reason to give this series a try!

On Majo to Yajuu and meaningful partnerships (spoilers++)
I just realized about this and I kinda love the complementary pattern that Satake-sensei introduces for all of the duos so far.
Guideau and Ashaf :
a cursed beast and a mage mostly using animal familiars.
Phanora and Johan...
as a necromancer witch and an undead.
Dunward and Oscar...
as a vampire and a sun witch
This series is just so damn good!
