Although Mt. Sunghaksan (승학산) is only 497 m high, the scenery that can be viewed from here is breathtaking. Many of the Busan attractions such as Eulsukdo Island, Bunezia (Jangrim Port), Huinnyeoul Culture Village/ Taejongdae (흰여울문화마을), Oryukdo, etc. can be seen from here. Besides magnificent views and total greenery, another nicest thing about being at this mountain on a hot summer day is feeling the gentle mountain breeze around every corner of the mountain. . South Korea Day 03 Part 1/2 (7th Nov)
colourful flowers by the road
Flew to Busan from Jeju after our short stay, and first stop was Oryukdo Sky Walk, although the actual glass walkway was closed for maintenance, but the view was still really lovely. Also, it was getting more chilly as we moved from Jeju (south) to Busan (up north, but not as northwest as Seoul).
Quick selfie after getting off the coach
And view from the right – defo like the view more because you can the islands. Oryukdo Island literally means five-six island, because depending on the day and the tides, sometimes you can either see give or six islands, thus the name.
Messy hair from sleeping on the flight/coach
Someone trying to get coffee advertisement LOL
Last shot of the place before leaving.

How to Navigate Korea using Naver Maps
Note: Personally, I find Google Maps less efficient than Naver Maps in Korea, hence I created this tutorial to help others navigate Korea. Although there are tons of applications that facilitate wayfinding such as Daum Maps and Kakao Maps etc, this tutorial will only focus on Naver Maps as I am more familiar with it and relied heavily on it during my 3-week trip to Korea. If you wish to share this tutorial with others outside of tumblr, please take out with proper credit. Do not simply reupload.
Disclaimer: I am not Korean and neither am I 100% fluent in the Korean language (hence please pardon any mistakes I make). You do not need to be fluent in order to use Naver Maps. However, you do need to at least know how to write, read and recognise Korean characters as wayfinding, in general, requires you to type in Korean and listen out to bus stop and metro station names.
As aforementioned, this tutorial solely elaborates on the Naver Maps application. I highly recommend that you download it before embarking on your trip to Korea. - Naver Maps: AppStore | Google Play
A. Getting around using Naver Maps
Let’s say I am in Busan now, and I want to travel from my hostel to a tourist destination called Oryukdo Island (부산 오륙도). I open up Naver Maps and Figure 1 is the first thing I see:
1. Click on the three green horizontal lines (item a) to call up the main menu in Naver Maps. Figure 2 should pop up. 2. Next, click on “길찾기” (item b) to find path/directions/search for possible routes. Ignore everything else. You should see Figure 3. Now you’ll need to key in your starting and ending points. Click on “출발지 검색” (item c) which means “search starting point” and you’ll see Figure 4 pop up.
3. Either locate your current location or key in your current location. Locating your current location is if you aren’t sure where you are. Keying in your current location is if you know where you are now. To locate yourself, press “내 위치" (item d) which means “my current location”. For this example, I will key in my current location in “출발지 검색” (item e), with the name of my hostel. Naver will list several suggestions for your location as shown in Figure 5. Go through the list of suggestions and verify the name of your starting location. In this case, my current location is indeed “한솔폴라리스" i.e the first suggestion. Since it is correct, I will click “출발지로” (item f). 4. After clicking “출발지로” (item f), Naver will automatically “lock in” your starting point/location as shown in Figure 6.
5. Next, key in your ending point / destination by clicking on “도착지 검색” (item g) which means “search destination point” and you will see Figure 7 pop up.
6. Key in your ending / destination point (item h) and Naver will list several suggestions for your ending / destination point as shown in Figure 8. In this case, there is only one listed. After verifying that it is correct, click “도착지로” (item i). 7. After clicking “도착지로” (item i), Naver will automatically “lock in” your ending point/ destination as shown in Figure 9.
8. Next is to choose your mode of transport (item j). I mostly pick “대중교통” which means “public transport” (item k) or “도보" which means “by foot” (item L). Note: Naver maps has one limitation and that is if the distance between your starting and ending point is less than 700m, Naver Maps is unable to offer any routes by public transport. Instead, it will offer you routes by foot. You will need to walk. However, if the distance is more than 700m, the “대중교통” i.e. “public transport” option is available. Click on “대중교통” i.e. “public transport” (item k) and a list of suggested routes will appear, as shown in Figure 10.
9. Naver Maps will recommend you several routes, starting from the fastest possible route. It will show you a brief overview of the route taken (item m), how many bus stops, approximate total distance, how long the route takes, total travel fare, what buses to take, what stops to alight at and whether or not you’ll need to change buses / trains. I want to take the first route, hence I click on the first route (item m). Clicking on it leads me to an even more detailed outline of my chosen route as shown in Figure 11.
10. Figure 11 shows a detailed outline of my chosen route. This is the most important page that you need to pay attention to, because it contains all the necessary information on where, which bus stop you need to be at, how many bus stops etc. Now, you’ll need to open up the Map to see where you are now and start walking to the first bus stop. Click on “지도” which means “map” (item n) and Figure 12 pops up.
11. Now, zoom into the map and you’ll be able to see clearly where you are and in which direction you must walk to get to your first bus stop. Figures 13, 14, 15 will show the directions in detail.
12. That’s it! It’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Tip: Naver Maps has this awesome feature that looks like an “open compass” that literally acts as a compass to help you determine whether you are facing North, South, East or West. It is the symbol located at the top left of the page (item o). Click on it ONCE to locate yourself and a small red dot will appear that shows your current real-time location. Click on it TWICE to activate the “open compass” feature, as shown in Figure 16.
13. You can actually try this example right now, and go through from Figure 1 to Figure 15. Figure 16 only works if you are in Korea, because the locator must use your location services on your phone. 14. Now that you know how to use Naver Maps, you’ll need to train yourself to listen out to the names of the bus stops so that you’ll know when to alight. All buses in Korea are equipped with an announcement service. Meaning, the names of the current bus stop and the next bus stop will be announced in advance. In Seoul, the English translation of the names of the bus stops are often announced as well. However, as you travel into the outskirts of Korea, such as Daegu, Busan etc, the chances of hearing announcements in English are lesser. Thus, you’ll need to listen out to the names of the bus stops in Korean and also learn how to read the LED panels in the buses. The LED panels are shown below in Figures 17 and 18.
15. So alight when you hear the name of your bus stop being announced. If you missed it, just check the LED panel. It will show the name of your bus stop. Hence, using my example above, if the bus stop I want to get off is “오륙도SK뷰후문 정류장” (as shown in Figure 16), “이번 정류장” which means “this bus stop” and “오륙도SK뷰후문” will appear on the LED screen. As soon as I see it appear, or hear the announcement, I will need to press the buzzer on the bus to indicate that I wish to alight at this stop. If you don’t press the buzzer, the bus will not stop and you will miss the bus stop.
This is the end of the tutorial. If you have any questions, please feel free to send in an ask/ message and I will try my best to answer your queries! Once again, if you wish to share this tutorial with others outside of tumblr, please take out with proper credit. Do not reupload.
#personal#as promised#I created this tutorial to help everyone find their way around korea#hope this helps!#this took me three days#I'll go sleep now>< my cough and flu is killing me🤢

📍#Oryukdo #Busan The ocean view is truly breathtaking and stunning. If you are planning to visit Busan, this place is highly recommended. Oryukdo means Five-Six Island. It’s a group of Five (normally) or six (depending on tide or viewing poing) islands thag ead made purely of stones.

I took my mom out to the Oryukdo Skywalk (오륙도 스카이워크) for her first time. I’ve been going out there even before they opened on October 18, 2013. The area has been Korea’s National Cultural Heritage Scenic Spot No. 24 since October 1, 2007! The Seungdumal (승두말) area is known as the dividing point between the East Sea and the South Sea.
It’s a seriously long bus ride out there but it’s fun to watch the view as you go from hip downtown to small businesses to ocean-view.
The skywalk is set up over a 35-meter-high coastal cliff. Just a heads-up, it’s kind of small: a 15-meter glass bridge of 24 plates in a horseshoe shape. It’s required to wear booties over your shoes as you walk. It’s a bit difficult to see through the thick glass, but it’s an amazing view all around you with the ocean waves crashing on the rocks. On a sunny day, you’ll see Tsushima Island (Daemado) in the distance.
It’s a fun and free experience in Busan, so why not?
Hours: Summer extended hours: 9:00am - 7:00pm, Off-season hours: 9:00am - 6:00pm
Address: 부산광역시 남구 오륙도로 137 (용호동) 137, Oryukdo-ro, Nam-gu, Busan
Directions: From Kyungsung Univ. & Pukyong Nat'l Univ. Subway Station (line 2) exit 5, turn around upon exiting, and take bus 131 or 20. Get off at the last stop and walk ahead.
