the funniest thing about directors who wish to "repliacte" old film stocks with vfx after they shoot their movies completely digitally is that half the time the filmstocks they're trying to replicate are either still in production or can be easily replicated on set or within colour correction, without putting the stress on faceless nameless ununionised vfx artists.
i am saying this because both the texas chainsaw massacre sequel reboot and ty wests' 'x' both wanted to replicate 16mm ektachrome film shot on a bolex cameras... when both ektachrome 16mm cinefilm and bolex cameras are both still available.
when david fincher set out to shoot "mank", he shot the movie digitally and tried to replicate the look of all orthchromatic film in post. the team involved in the making of the lighthouse were able to replicate the look by shooting on kodak double-x black and white negatuve cinefilm by using a blue fioter to harshen the reds.
if a director tells you they can easily replicate an analog format through a digital means, remind yourself that they are lying to you and themselves.
