Orpheus: A Tragicomedy in Six Parts by chromaticchaos [IFDB]
ORPHEUS: A TRAGICOMEDY
There once was a fellow from Thrace, Who wouldn't accept his wife's fate-- With only a lyre, He walked through the fire, To spring her from Hades' place.
But when the man met with the god, And spoke of his plight, god guffawed. "So what?" Hades said, "Lots of people are dead. Now beat it, you musical fraud."
Well, the fellow from Thrace wouldn't leave-- What's the point to a life bereaved? "But I love her!" he crooned, As he plucked out a tune, "Don't you know what it's like to grieve?"
And his music was so sweet to hear, That the god wiped away a few tears, Then said, "Fine, you sad sack, If you just don't look back, You can lead your wife straight out of here."
Now, play as that fellow from Thrace, Going down into Hades' place. To get back your wife, Your muse, your life, Just don't turn to look at her face!

Orpheus game? Hercules? What?
The Orpheus game, my magnum opus/the bane of my existence!! Aka Orpheus: A Tragicomedy in Six Parts, coming soon to indie game websites near you.
So BASICALLY it’s a choose-your-own-adventure thing that’s based on a few famous tellings of the myth -- Ovid, Virgil, the Gluck opera, etc -- where you play as Orpheus travelling to the underworld to get Eurydice back. Along the way you interact with gods, monsters, spirits, etc, and depending on what you pick you’re gonna unlock different endings including a super secret hidden ending where you get Eurydice back through the power of love and also stupidity.
Also it’s got Ancient Greek pottery-inspired art (done by yours truly), expository limericks, gratuitous references to other Greek myths, contemporary music out the wazoo, one Very Good Joke... Everything you’d want from a twine game made by an amateur writer who literally does not understand coding (which is why it’s taking so long).
Anyway I think I just have to finish five more pages, get it play-tested, then I can finally release it on The Web for your gaming pleasure or whatever. Will probably advertise it on here so stay tuned I guess.
#orpheus#also i'm not a very skilled digital artist so the pics are taking forever too#but i'm hoping to be done once and for all by may at the latest
