A gentle crimson finds its way onto Orpheus’s cheeks as they sip away at some too-strong drink through a too-small, too-thin straw almost certainly made for stirring. Perhaps it is the influence of that very same too-strong drink that compels Orpheus to keep pressing send, an amused smile tugging at the corners of their cheeks. Three text messages and a calling card, then followed up immediately with an image of an animated dancing cat. That’ll get her attention, they think, gaze glued to the little SENT accompanying each message, willing it to turn to READ. It felt as though it had been ages since last they saw Artemis, the Heteraidia effectively cornering them into a state of chronic busyness. They had enjoyed it, at first, enjoyed how it fueled their ego, made them feel important. Now? They wanted nothing more than to be forgotten — not forever, no they could not bear forever, but just for a few hours. Just long enough to breathe, just long enough to rest.
It felt only natural to seek out Artemis — Artemis, her very name synonymous with things like friend, ally, twin flame, and confidant . . . They could not lend too much thought to the topic, now, without reducing themself to a tipsy, blubbering mess. So, they waited, ignoring notifications of text messages and social media insights with the flick of a thumb, all while mulling about the Aegis back-stage.

They were unsure of how long had passed since their first message sent when they see her, just across the way. “Artemis!” They call, smile apparent in their tone. “There you are. I’ve been lookin’ for you everywhere.” They approach her, all smiles and sunshine; drink in their hand reduced to the mingling of melted ice cubes and a few drops of alcohol, and the stir straw left hanging out of the side of their mouth, soothing their fixation. “Did’ja get my messages, come to hang out for a little while?”
