Nuakhai Festival usually occurs in the months of August and September. It's an agricultural festival and is also called Nuakhai Parab or Nuakahi Bhetghat. Nuakhai is a combination of two words. The word ‘Nua’ means ‘New’ and ‘Khai’ means ‘Eat’. As the name says, Nuakhai Juhar is celebrated to welcome the season for farming Rice. It is the main agricultural festival for the people of Orissa.
