i am curious why fandoms gravitate towards specific archetypes/tropes. sure, they're not all the same, but the similarities are more than i'd expect when the source materials span different genres and mediums
#9 speaks#originally this started out as another '9 rambles about amatonormativity' thing#bc i feel like a lot of people slap the same handful of relationship tropes onto every fandom they come across#and i myself am not immune to gravitating towards very specific tropes - nobody is#but i don't see why people need to insert the same tropes into Every fandom regardless of if it has canon precedent#like there's a difference between 'this was referenced in the show and now i'm going to expand on it :)'#and 'if i don't find an enemies-to-lovers ship for this show i will have a stroke'#anyway. i feel like this is applicable pretty broadly - there are a lot of fandoms where the popular fanon has little to do with the source#and is really just Generic Fanon Template no. 3 with a coat of paint resembling the source#don't know why but i'd be curious to find out
