The idea for this edit actually started with the concept of a lamprey appreciation video! See, I don’t really think most people have very fond feelings about lampreys, people tend to dislike them and find them disgusting for their parasitic behaviour (not even exhibited by most lampreys) and toothed and round suckermouth, and sometimes for the invasiveness of some some species. I was listening to Two Wuv on a walk and the secondary lyrics of the final chorus really made me think about them: once you learn to love me, life will be alright! Just like how if you come to appreciate or at least tolerate undesirable creatures, you start to see lovely and wonderful things all around you. Less things you despise and more things you like!
Since the song is about two women obviously I had to get another fish in there. I landed on lungfish, another favourite of mine, as strangely enough lampreys and lungfish share many features. They’re long-bodied fish with peculiar fins, they’re both considered ancient, they’re some of the few fish to not fall in the cartilaginous fish and ray-finned fish categories, and they’re sort of forgotten in their respective duos. By duos I mean that we have two extant jawless fish groups, hagfish and lampreys, and we have two extant non-tetrapod lobe-fins, coelacanths and lungfish! Naturally these are just specific to fish internet where I frequent — all of these animals are rather unknown in popular culture — but I see much more of coelacanths and hagfish than I ever do of lampreys and lungfish! Coelacanths are no doubt the poster child of fishblr, and everyone knows “no one is prepared for hagfish slime”. But there’s no funny meme for lampreys and lungfish :( So that’s where this video came from! I love lampreys, I love lungfish, I made a video about how much I love them! Therefore take these lyrics very literally lol
SURPRISE! Double feature of my underrated faves: lampreys and lungfish! <3333
