Kai's hostage has a last demand....

The empty Mystic Falls High School, on a sunday afternoon. Almost empty, I should say.

There were actually two people in the building. One willingly spending time there, Kai Parker. The other, Lilly Smith, held back against her will. Although, she seemed really calm for a damsel in distress whose life was threatened. She was sitting on the floor, chest tied up to a table leg. Kai was babbling about his revenge and plan to take over the Gemini coven before murdering them all. Lilly was keeping still, observing him making his speech. She couldn't help but smile warmly at certain parts concerning his twin sister and remaining siblings….

Kai caught her expression. She looked rather deranged…. Or, was she agreeing with his plan ? She surely wouldn't.

“I know what you're hiding.”

Kai stopped in the middle of a sentence. He frowned and tilted his head to the side, perturbed. He wasn't hiding anything. He was pretty well displaying any and every intention he had…. What did she know that he didn't ? "What are you talking about ?" He approached her, annoyed by her unreadable expression. She kept smiling at everything he said and did. She was supposed to be scared, for heaven’s sake !

"I know what you're hiding.” She repeated, suddenly bringing a hand up to his cheek.

Kai violently grabbed her wrist. He was surprisingly able to siphon some magic. He didn't know she was a witch when he decided to kidnap her.

It hurt but Lilly stayed calm, containing her reaction. When he released her, Kai asked. "You have powers. Why don't you use them ?"

"You're stronger, it would be useless. I'd rather keep the energy I have."

He laughed. "I'll kill you.”

She didn't even flinch, didn't seem to be afraid in any way. She just strangely smiled. "I know. I want my dying wish.”

"You're insane.”

"Coming from you I'd say it's the truth. It doesn't matter anyway, right ? You’re gonna kill me.” She looked straight into his eyes as if she was searching for something.

Kai could absolutely kill her in a snap of a finger. However, her insisting glare made him uneasy. "What is it then ?"

"Let me touch you."

Kai raised his eyebrows.

"Nothing weird. I wanna touch your cheek."

A smirk appeared at the corner of his mouth. "Which one ?".

She sighed. "Jokes... Obviously." Her soft looks and kind smiles would be making anyone uncomfortable in that situation. "The cheek of your face."

Kai rolled his eyes. ‘Remember not to choose a boring one next time’, he told himself. He approached a little closer. "Go on. Your last wish.”

When Lilly finally touched his cheek, a warm light irradiated from her hand, Kai's face tingling. He forcefully gripped her wrist to pull her hand off of him. She let out a cry of pain but shut herself up right there. "What do you think you're doing ?"

"Nothing harmful. You can stop me anytime you want, correct ? Or, are you scared ?”

He eyed her up and down. He was not scared. He was… "Okay. Only because I feel generous today. I'll drain you of your magic in a minute anyway."

Again with her smile.... She brought her hand up to his cheek yet again. The same light emanated from her palm. After a few seconds, Kai instinctively closed his eyes, leaning into the touch.

That's when he was overwhelmed by a dozen sensations all mixing together. It was too much.... His eyes darted open, and he slapped her arm away. "What..." He quickly got up. "What did you do to me ?"

"Made you see."

He frowned, staring down at her, head shaking from left to right. He was aware of his sharp intakes of breath, stronger with every second. He should have drained her magic, snapped her neck or just done something, anything. He couldn't.

One last smile from her and he couldn't take it anymore. He just stormed off, leaving her alone in the empty school. He didn't come back.

Pretty Pretty Please I Don't Want to be a Magical Girl

While I’d want this concept to mostly be a lighthearted comedy, since that’s more my forte, the north star (heh) of this premise would be the loss of passion for something you once loved, feeling the pressure/expectations of sticking with something that you’re “a prodigy” at and the subsequent burnout. How hard do you fight for an old passion or at what point do you just let it go? Is it even okay to give up when so many people are counting on you? 

Sounds bleak but I promise I’m an optimist and that will always reflect in my work :)
