THE TRIUMPHANT RETURN

listening the consequence of imagination is fear by junie&thehutfriends. i have fallen wildly in love with this band’s nine singles. bought a t-shirt. please god let them keep doing weird shit.

the closest comparison i can pull is a really insistent and inexorable If I Had A Heart by Fever Ray if Fever Ray got more inventive with percussion. the same sort of buzzy travelling-montage/sea shanty undertone, the sort of semi-allegorical warning looping lyrics, a female vocalist with the same sort of qualities around long vowels

this band’s lyrics fuck so hard

reading not a fallow week, but a lot of reading on how to properly change the address on many important documents. boring!

watching Ip Man (2008, dir Yip) this movie has such a crispness to it- not only the action scenes but the music and most of the sfx (barring one upsettingly weird crunch in the final fight scene). sometimes you just want to watch sick flips and big hits

playing lord help me im back in g/enshin bc of the update. they got really good at using vertical space and doing puzzles that are just frustrating enough, the first area of the game (mondstadt) feels so flat in comparison. idk that i want anyone in the next couple banners tho bc the goddamn ice nun isn’t in any of them. since her release i have pulled two of the most popular five-star twinks and also klee, another five-star. also i think six chongyuns but that’s besides the point. i’m leveling up the ice boy rn bc i might as well!!! unlocked all the powers i could for him bc i kept pulling so many doubles!!!

*disclaimer: i have not spent a single penny on this game and do not plan to. this is solely me dicking around with inconsistent daily quests. please be cautious with games that want you to form habits with daily logins and anything with lootbox or gacha-style gambling microtransactions

making i bought two tables and four kitchen chairs, chrome diner-style, off craigslist mmmmm a month and a half ago? the small table was in decent shape and quickly restored (i am using it as a temporary desk right now), and the big kitchen table and chairs...less so. i don’t really want to think about how much money i’ve spent on this project or how many individual times i’ve been to home depot/lowes but i do plan on owning this set for a good long time and so far it’s been cheaper than ikea. so far the progress notes are:

hit everything with a 1/10 bleach solution bc i don’t believe in fucking around and i had to haul them out of a mouse infested basement

painted the wooden undercarriage and drawers of the tables with two coats of white enamel paint, bc the original paint was very worn and is old enough it could have been lead, and i simply don’t want to fuck with that

small table is completely done but still needs a new drawer handle,

i have brasso-ed and 000 steel-wooled the shit out of the chrome legs

hit one very bad dent/flake with chrome-flavored rustoleum but otherwise the chrome was in decent shape with minor pitting

added new rubber tips to the legs

the large kitchen table is also nearly done

the legs have been brasso-ed and gone at with several grades of steel wool bc the chrome was heavily pitted and flaking off where it had touched the concrete basement pad

legs have also been primed (two coats) and topcoated (two coats) and they don’t look Great but they look Better

however i was a little heavy-handed with the coats so they get to dry inside for a while before i clearcoat them later this week for safekeeping

after THAT bc of the structure of the legs i cannot put protective rubber feet on the tips, so they will get jute wrapped around the parts that will touch my rental linoleum

the four chairs are also kind of a process

took the vinyl-covered seats and backs off the chrome tube frames (which also came apart in two pieces)

these are in pretty decent shape and i will not be reupholstering them

they do need new little decorative furniture tacks bc i started individually de-rusting them and then went “wait a minute i have a very finite amount of time in this earth and i can buy a 300-pack of brads for like $20, which seems like a fair trade)

the very bottoms of the seats need to be replaced with like light black cotton or something, which i have in storage

a little afraid to pull that off and find i need to replace the padding or something but hopefully All is Well

under the old felt furniture pads, the chrome tube legs are rusted through

so the plan for that is new felt furniture pad over the holes + also wrap in jute (shut up)

but all 12 individual chrome chair pieces are de-rusted and have one coat of primer on them (will probably only do one coat + touchup for spots i missed? two coats of primer seemed like overkill on the table legs tbh)

and then two coats of chrome-flavored topcoat and one clear coat (did not properly read the can yesterday and now i gotta go back and get the right JUST clear coat not primer)

this has been somewhat hindered by

the wettest july on record, which is not conducive to working in well-ventilated areas or letting paint dry

anyway here’s the end of the post, a pile of chrome parts isn’t very photogenic so here is my sister’s cat for your trouble reading to the end of this

I know there are many people doing this now but I wanted to share what I found in combining a few YouTubers efforts in restoring my snare. I bought this for $80 off of craigslist. It needed new heads and the throw was missing a rivet making it non-functional. Also the snare but was missing the piece that screwed in. Everything else was great.The Pictures: https://ift.tt/2PnDToK it was all said and done....My Process:Took the whole snare apartBegan soaking the rusted snare side hoop, all lugs and tension rods in Coke (Coke with tinfoil removes rust....yet we drink Coke?)Wiped down the shell with Brasso using a paper towel to wipe on and a microfiber cloth to wipe off.Wiped down the shell with Rubbing Compound using a paper towel and wiped off with a microfiber cloth.Used tinfoil to scrub the rusted lugs and snare side hoop. I had left them soaking the entire time I cleaned the shell. I only used the tinfoil to scrub the rusted areas - what I did not know but kind of assumed was getting the rust off also meant scrubbing the chrome off. So those areas look dull now but it is better than shiny rust.Washed all the chemical, I mean Coke off.Wiped down both rims and all the lugs (not to be confused with tension rods) with the same Brasso and Rubbing Compound method used on the shell.Meticulously put the lugs, throw, snare butt, and dampener back on..... honestly I was so over the top and would wipe the shell every time I put my nasty fingers on it. I didn't need to but I am OCD.Oiled up the tension rods and began putting the heads and wires on.The Non-Original:I replaced the snare throw with the P85 which fit perfectly.I replaced the snare butt with the p32 which took a bit of bending to get it to fit just right.New heads of course.Puresound Pro Wires with the band...I put this on all of my snares. It makes life easy.Batter side rim - the rim it came with was bent in a few areas making it hard to get a drum key on the rods. I thought it was worth spending $13 for a new Gibraltar rim. I saved the original in case there is a person who really needs it one day. via /r/drums
