Transmigrating To Ancient Times With An Online Encyclopaedia

Lê Việt Khải was reading an online wiki-based encyclopaedia when he died.

When he came to, he realised he had crossed to Ancient Vietnam and became a young man who had once again failed the regional examinations.

The original young man wanted to continue studying and take the exams again. Unfortunately, his father and stepmother denied him any more resources and forced him out to a hovel in the ancestral village. In despair, he jumped into the river to join his dead mother.

The body was saved, but the original soul was gone. Instead, Khai took his place.

The just-transmigrated Khai, who had already washed his hands of university entrance exams: …. No thank you!

Not to mention that the court examinations were based on the classics and literature…Khai was a science graduate, okay?

Looking around at his new living space, it was more important to earn money.

Wait…why was there an online encyclopaedia in his brain? Ah, even the references were linked… ◉‿◉

Notes:

After reading so many Chinese BL with Ancient Time+Farming, I wanted to write a Vietnamese-setting.

I actually started writing this story, but stopped on the 11th chapter (11.9k total words). Unfortunately, the interactions between the MC and ML just didn't feel quite right. I tried to make the ML (Xuan) a more "silent" type character, and it grounded conversations to a distant halt.

And eventually, I felt that having an online encyclopaedia was a bit too much if the MC couldn't pull through and be amazing.

Thus, this story idea was shelved 🥺

Is it right for Alfe to be happy?

Everyone has told him no: his family, his former lovers, every person bleeding as he drives a knife into their heart.

He is so used to that, see. The word no, again and again. Every reminder that he is not a good person by every measure. Every little request from people who share his name and not much else asking him to be content with living in the dark.

Happiness is not meant for him. Not while he is the way he is. And oh, how he cannot be anything but who he is.

And then, finally, bright laughter and eyes the color of sapphires.

And then, light. The word yes, a love so unquestioning it feels more like a fantasy he’s never allowed to have.

“Is it okay,” he finally starts to ask, so quietly and so weakly that he hates himself. “Is it okay for me to be happy?”

Is it okay if he’s this happy?

There is no hesitation.

There is only a smile, unfaltering.

“Why not?”

For the first time, he realizes that he wants a pocket of light, even if it belongs to him and him only.

Even if it’s something nobody else can see.
