Something I just realized:
Temenos stopped Vados before he could kill Hermes, the Dancer. She seems to have been an extraneous target anyway since she didn't have any pages.
However in the endgame, the sacrifices to snuff the flame and summon Vide are:
Tanzy (Dancer)
General Ageha (Warrior)
Petrichor (Hunter)
Ori (?)
Oboro (??)
Which fits the pattern up until the last two. Ori could be called a Merchant, but her role as a spy could make her a Thief. Oboro, likewise, is a liar and manipulator (Thief), but also controls the army's finances (Merchant).
You could make it fit, but I had another thought.
What if Ori was supposed to be the final sacrifice, but Oboro could tell that she was getting cold feet? So he sent her to the flame that was already guarded by the Moonshade Order. One way or another, they'd make sure she fulfilled her duty.
And then she fucked it up by surviving anyway.
So Ori was the linchpin that caused the whole thing to fall apart. She made it possible to reignite the flames and ensured that Vide would be summoned in a weakened state.
This makes Partitio one of the most important characters in the story because it's his example that changed everything. Just by being a good person, he ensured a new dawn.

What the Notes Didn't Say (Partitio Yellowil x Ori)
Partitio and Ori spend time in a room at Papp's house. (1100 words)
Giga-turbo Octopath Traveler 2 endgame spoilers ahead!
-----
Ochette had been nice enough to delay her journey home from Toto'haha for another week when Partitio came to her with the request.
"I need yer help to track someone down. Last anybody saw of them was the apothecary's hut in Crackridge."
She'd also been nice enough not to ask too many questions. Even though she knew.
He'd also been lucky enough to catch Castti before she she boarded her ship back to the Eastern Continent. And a good thing. The hunch that the person he was looking for would need treatment proved to be right on the money.
Papp, thankfully, had been willing to let him and the apothecary in carrying a girl in a bloodied shirt and scrivener's cap without asking questions. His dad knew enough to trust him.
And that's where he had been for the past four days, by her bedside whenever Castti wasn't seeing to her treatment. "The desert climate can be especially harsh for those with wounds that severe. We're lucky Ochette found her when she did."
"But she's not dyin', is she?" Partitio chewed on a stick of cinnamon, a nervous habit he had picked up lately.
"I've done what I can, and the apothecary who treated the initial knife wound was skilled." Castti's expression was neutral. "It was a deep wound and a near-fatal amount of blood loss. If all goes well, she'll wake up and be fine. However, I do insist she be watched at all times. The commotion from the other day has settled down, but there's still no telling how she'll react to the situation when she wakes up. And stable condition doesn't mean she can just walk right out of here. She'll need to get plenty of bed rest."
"Thank ye, Castti." Partito scratched his chin, staring down at Ori's unconscious body on the bed. "I know yer best is the best there is. Nothin' left to do now but wait."
Castti was out shopping for herbs when her patient first showed signs of stirring.
…
Ori's eyelids began to flutter. Which was weird, since she was deceased. Why was the cold, nocturnal abyss of death so dazzlingly bright? And scorchingly, sizzlingly hot and tingly? The first thing she saw was a familiar face, a man in a wide-brimmed hat with a smile. That uniquely warm, special, one-of-a-kind smile that always seemed to buzz around in the back of her head like a mosquito with a drum set.
At least, it had before she had spilled her own blood to extinguish the sacred flame. She had been supposed to spill all of it. So why was it daytime. Unless…
"Ah… Partitio…?" This was bad. An atrocious, abominable turn of events!
Her attempts to leap backwards and out of bed were thwarted by the fact that every muscle below her neck didn't seem to want to do more than continue resting on the creaky box-spring mattress.
"Heheh, mornin' Ori." He clasped his hands together. "Gonna want to settle down, though. Castti says ya shouldn't be walkin' around for another week or three."
She blushed, not knowing how to respond. "Oh, gods, this is embarrassing. Am I going to have to write my own headline? 'Wayward Scrivener Waylaid in Desert'? Oh, no, that'll never sell. Maybe if-"
"-Whoa there, newsie." The smile went off his face. Which meant the honest merchant was about to hit on a less chipper topic. "Let's lay that actin' aside here." He pulled out a sheaf of papers from the pocket of his worn yellow overcoat. Even old and battle-worn as it was, it still looked drastically dashing on the dapper deal-maker. "Good to see yer still with us. You should know, I've read yer notes. Didn't try to, but they were lyin' all over the place and somebody had to put 'em back in order."
"Or no, shoot. That's a lie." He lifted up his hat and sheepishly scratched the back of his head. This man had access to a naturally adorable depth of charm, a level of which Ori's fake plucky scrivener persona had only scratched the surface of. "I wanted to know why."
"Partitio…" She had been afraid, terrified before. When watching her village be slaughtered before her eyes. When Harvey's arrogance had threatened their whole gods-damned plan. When the point of her knife had first pierced her own stomach. "You read… You read my notes?" This was different. And somehow substantially worse.
"Yeah. Thing is, they didn't tell me why. Not really." He stared her in the eye. Face close, intense. "You see, I have a talent for judgin' people. Seein' what they're all about. I feel like I know you. These notes tell me what you did. But they don't tell me why you tore 'em out of yer notebook, scattered in a trail on the way to that extinguished brazier. Osvald went through 'em right quick and they helped him put a lotta stuff together. Why would someone who spent years working for that and guardin' information tighter'n any lockbox give up the game like that?"
"They don't tell me why ya helped me out when I was tryin' to get that mall up and runnin'. And they sure as gods don't tell me what you're feeling now." His eyes were pure, shining beads. An ocean of sympathy she had no right to be swimming in. "Can I ask ya that?"
She was frozen. This was utterly, unconditionally unexpected. "I… I…" Her voice cracked. "I'm so scared." Why was she crying? She'd been in scuffles, had interviews that went way worse than this. What did she have to cry over?
"I see." He nodded slightly. "I don't understand what you did. I don't. But I want to know. But more'n any of that, I wanna forgive ya'. Now, ya lil' pen wizard, what is it you want?"
"I… sob" She was breaking. She had already perished, once, but now the walls inside her, walls she had built up for decades, walls her brother had taught her to keep perfectly maintained, were crumbling. She wanted, she really wanted, "I want to…live. I want to be alive, but… But I've done a terrible thing. So many horrible things so many people. Is, is it okay for me to want that?" It was wrong, she had to be wrong. And he was going to laugh at her. But she had about as much luck stopping as she would have had catching a greased octopuff with her bare hands. "I wanna LIVE! WhaaaAHHH!!" Bawling was something she could never recall doing before today. Odd.
"That's it. That's all right, now." And then he was putting his arms around her, lifting her up slightly. "So long as you wanna live, I'm in yer corner."
She cried, screamed it out in his arms until her throat was sore, until there were no more words. At some point, she fell back to sleep, and could dimly feel him lowering her back down onto the creaky old mattress. The last thing she felt before drifting off, exhausted but very much alive, was the grip of his palm on hers.
~End~

Soo, because I'll otherwise loose my mind, here my ranking for the eight stories (of course, big spoilers follow, also for the endgame)
1. Osvald
This was pretty much a safe card to get into my favourites. A broken science man, who first starts out with wanting to avenge his wife and daughter, but then realises that his daughter is alive and saves her? That's good shit for people with father issues right there.
But what really got me with him was... everything around him. How he slowly warms up to the other travel companions, how he lets other close to him again. In the last travel banter with Partitio he talks about how he realizes that he managed his journey only because of his companions, and how he finally sees the sense behind small talk and. It's so great. He was my starter and even though it was really funny at the beginning how that lone wolf suddenly was surrounded by five children, Temenos and Castii, I could see him lead my squad at the end against Vide. That's what I call character development.
And I know that after the epilogue the first thing he did was run back home, confronted his fear and hugged his daughter. Trust me, I'm Square Enix.
2. Ochette
I'm sorry, but I couldn't put her lower. Ochette's story was so nicely put together - I love how all three legendary Pokémon beasts have separate stories, but one element that unites them all: how humanity destroys nature without reason or remorse. But still Ochette stays strong and kind and has hopes and... God, that was great to see. That moment when she befriended Glacis and the other companion was honestly beautiful.
The only thing that annoys me is the fact that the dark huntress was so... irrelevant at the end. I expected a plottwist around her, something like 'haha, this character from story X was actually her!' but... no. Shes just an evil fanatic who has only one appearance when she gets killed by the other companion. A little bit lackluster tbh.
But yeah, Ochette is my daughter and I would kill for her.
3. Castii
That third chapter. God damnit.
I'm really surprised how much I liked Castii at the end. Once again, family issues and all, but also... her story is so dark. She could save the day, but so many people had to pay for it and it was so brilliant how you could go into the empty village from the beginning (it was even part of the demo) and ask yourself "what the fuck happened here?" before all becomes clear. Its so bittersweet and I'm all here for it.
4. Partitio
I know, his story is not the most... logical one. But sometimes you want to live in an indulgent fantasy where you beat capitalists up and then they see the errors of their ways and where a rich sugar daddy aristocrat gives you 80 billion dollar because you inspired him enough. But yeah, he's just so fun and I love how, even though so many people change throughout OT 2, he always stays the same idealistic optimistic moron who inspires the people around him. And how Ori pretty much confirmed that the reason she saw hope again was because of Partitio? Whoof.
Also my head canon is that Mister Roque and Pepe had something going on while they built Orerush. I mean... come on. Two single men, with no woman by their side but really close, and Partitio even calls him uncle in german? Thats sus right there.
5. Throné
Technically, this story is right up my alley. I don't know what it keeps from being higher up except the fact that the Claude twist came a little bit out of nowhere. But there are so many small scenes that I love, how the girl in Mothers Garden swears revenge and still gets a happy ending, how happy Father is that he still got to be a father (his whole story was fantastic btw), how you're not thrown into Lostseed but travel there throughout her last chapter and then are met with such despair. And yeah, the end was similarly bittersweet as that of Primrose from the first game, what I love. At the end, freedom reeks of blood, but... it was worth it.
6. Agnea
The step up for the fluffy stories from the first to the second game is insane.
But yeah, I talked about it once already, but what makes this story special for me is the journey in her mother's footsteps. When her father gave her her dress at the beginning it nearly teared me up lol.
But yeah, her whole story is just so sweet and cute and anti-capitalistic (she kinda has Karen-energy but in a good way) and how it all tied together at the end with all the people from the different chapters coming together at the festival of graces was great. And this story has easily the most background lesbians (the traveling group, Dolccinea and Victoria...), it's amazing.
7. Temenos
...yeah. This is my biggest unpopular opinion from this game xD
But yeah, what really annoyed me about Temenos' story was, similar to Cyrus' story from the first game, that it tries to be a detective story, but... it's the most predictable story of all lol. From the beginning I was like 'yeah... the sacred guard was responsible, wasn't it?' and it kinda took my investment in that story out of it. Also I like Temenos and Crick, but not as much as most of the fandom, I'm afraid - there was something that didn't click with me, I guess. Even though the Stormhail-Route was still pretty sad ngl. And even though Kaldena was my third to last end boss, she still nearly killed me, so here's that.
8. Hikari
Hikari is really a sad case because his story could have been even more tragic and sad. But he suffers the most from bad writing - Mugen is such an 'evil for the sake of being evil' antagonist while being the stupidest person ever (that moment when he killed everyone because 'they could be vengeful later!' made me literally facepalm) and I still don't understand why Ritsu hates the emperors and their war mongering so much, but then ends up working for the biggest war monger of them all. I lowkey expected him to betray Mugen but... no. He's just vengefulTM and randomly turns good two seconds before dying.
But I liked Hikaris arc and turning the shadow hold into the light hold was a great idea. Generally his first and last chapter were pretty atmospheric and I really grew to like Kazan as a mischievous, but sympathetic ally that his betrayal really stung. Generally, the second game had much better written and more engaging stories than the first, it didn't have any Tressa-like story where I didn't particularly care about anything. But still, Hikari kinda deserves better.

1, 3, 5, 8, 17, 18, 19, 21, and 22!!!!!!
1. Favorite traveler and did I start with them?
It's Osvald and no, I started with Partitio
3. Favorite single chapter?
Osvald chapter 4 obviously, I also really like Partitio chap 3, Castti chap 2 Sai and Throné chap 3 Montwise
5. Favorite boss fight?
Claude, Roque or Dolcinaea. I love Claude's gimmick of turning into (I think it was that) other characters, I SCREAMED when I saw the train and oh my GOSH the song of hope is so good plus Dolcinaea's sprite is so cool AND the gimmick of fighting her twice
8. Favorite secret job?
Arcanist! I love the whole "do damage, get hp/sp" thing, plus I put it on Osvald and he's so so strong I love him
17. Best relationship/dynamic between to characters?
Not picking just one cause that would be a crime.
Castti and Malaya: obviously it's flawless, they are tragic lovers
Castti and Edmund: I am such a huge fan of an annoying mf getting whipped into shape by a mom friend who snapped
Osvald and Harvey: you played the game, you get it
Oboro and Ori: even though we never see them interact, it's still an awesome duo and I love (despise) them so so much
18. Headcanon for x character?
I'll do one for each!
Ochette is dyslexic. Castti is Italian/icelandic. Throné's favorite movie is one of those Barbie movies that they made like a million of. Osvald likes licorice pipes. Partitio chews on tabbacco and smokes so so much. Agnea goes feral over brigadeiros. Temenos has body image issues for various reasons. Hikari is autistic.
19. A moment that made me cry?
So on my first playthrough, I didn't cry at all. But before doing journey for the dawn, I started a second file for fic research purposes. I started sobbing at the end of Osvald's chapter 4 battle when the grieving golem started doing damage to itself to heal the party. Hurted my heart fr. Almost cried at Castti chapter 3 both times I played it. Did not cry at Temenos Stormhail but did feel upset. In journey for the dawn, then during the last phase of the fight where you use all 8 travelers, everyone has a special line they say. Osvald's is "Elena..." I heard it and started sobbing. I had to pause the game for a few minutes so I could actually focus.
21. A moment that made me laugh out loud?
In journey for the dawn, I wanted the last hit on Vide to be with Osvald max boosted one true magic, but it ended up being with hired help cause I underestimated the amount of damage I did.
22. An amusing anecdote from your playthrough?
I was home alone while playing on the tv. I repeat things characters saying and I talk to myself so a lot. My sister came home from school while I was doing Partitio chapter 3 and I was talking so much that she joked about me being a gameplay youtuber

I have been advised by wise council (my gen-Z ward) that I should post my chapters on a regular schedule rather than as I finish them. So despite finishing Chapter 2 last night, expect the next chapter of "Your Name..." on Friday.
Currently up to chapter 6 is in some stage of draft. First arc will probably end with chapter 7-8.

Day 3 of fundraising, four days left. I'll add to this an update about my fanfic so I can add a few more tags here:
Chapter 4 has been a struggle. I should have known that once a week wouldn't work out, so now I'm changing it to every two weeks, and after three weeks in a row, I'm giving myself some extra time to catch up. Making good progress, though, and the end is in sight.
Your Name On My Lips will return next week...provided I'm not homeless, of course lol. Please donate!
I have my new apartment, but in order to secure it, I need $1700 by Monday. I set up a gofundme for $3000, to cover movers and any additional expenses that may come up.
If you like my work please, PLEASE consider donating. It will be hard to continue my story if I'm homeless. 🙃

I wonder if having a ship type that doesn't include a character you can easily project yourself onto is a grey-ace thing.
Anyway, adding Beelzebub x Gabriel to the pantheon of "small, feisty, morally dubious she/they x large, strong, good-natured man"
Ori x Partitio (Octopath 2)
Chara x Asriel (feralphoenix version)
Lois x Clark (my adventures with superman)
