New update for Ore-ish Hotbar is now out on Planet Minecraft!! This version fixes the alignment of the hotbar with the other bars* and also adds support for Left Hand Mode!
*unfortunately, things aren't quite completely aligned when using touch controls, but this is a proof-of-concept pack and also already wayy too complex internally, soo... gonna have to wait for me to fix that later. maybe. sorry.

decided to finish up Ore-ish Hotbar before moving on to Conglomeration alpha 2 (read: i'm procrastinating), and i think it's almost done!
"what's even different between this and the last post?"
tbh, not a lot. previously, this pack changed the anchors for the hotbar but now it doesn't. for compatibility with Cornbread's Texture Fixer (you still have to load texture fixer lower tho). but also i changed the dropshadows on the item stack count.
basically, i swapped the vanilla dropshadow out for a custom one that i can change the color of depending on the state of the item slot. i originally did this because i wanted it to look like there wasn't a dropshadow at all (to make it more similar to the ore ui it's replicating)*, but i decided i didn't like the way that looked, so i instead repurposed the architecture to make sure the dropshadow was always slightly darker than the item slot, regardless of whether the slot is selected or not.**
also, i removed that little white line i added to the selected slot in the last post. this makes it less accurate to ore ui, but it didn't really look good with the alignment of the text and was also just too much visual noise.
*"why did you need a dropshadow at all if you wanted it to look like there wasn't one?"
visibility reasons. removing the shadow entirely makes it harder to read the stack count on lighter-colored items.
**"wasn't the vanilla dropshadow you were using in the previous post already darker than the slot texture?"
the unselected slot texture, yeah. but it was actually lighter than the selected slot texture, which can be seen in the first post.
here's a screenshot of what it looked like with the dopshadows being the same colors as the slot textures btw:
#is about my resource pack#ore-ish hotbar#id in alt#i saved the draft wrong. pls pretend i posted this to the minecraft sideblog.

So I'm still thinking about minecraft stones, prepare yourself for rambling
For the pink ore I wanna go with rose quartz, because regular quartz already exists in the game, and it could be a neat variation on that. I think it could spawn in certain nether biomes, possibly in geodes, and could have some healing properties, it could give you a weak regeneration effect if you have it in your hotbar
For magenta I was thinking of tourmaline, or mayhaps a made up mineral like enderite, which could spawn in the end, or potentially be extracted from crying obsidian
For green, I think emerald fits the lime color better, so for the other green I wanna choose peridot, irl they are that exact warm dark-ish green shade. They could also spawn in the end, and could be found in the overworld after meteorite strikes.
It gets complicated with blue, because I'm not sure where diamonds would fit, but:
If diamonds are light blue, then teal would be turquoise or malachite
And if diamonds are teal I would make opal or aquamarine the light blue
I like the opal idea, cause opals often form in fossils, and they could maybe replace the bone in some of those big "skeletons" that you can find in the nether and underground? it could also be something to do with petrified wood, which would work, since minecraft is starting to implement "ancient" themed stuff in the new updates, like the sniffer n ancient seeds
the masculine urge to combine my su gemstone obsession with my minecraft concept art obsession and design new ore types

anyway, i've started work on a small fix for ore-ish hotbar. i've already implemented left hand mode (which was not in the original release due to the toggle not existing at the time) and that was the hard part, so if things go smoothly, i should be able to get this out before friday!

custom item lock textures + some fixes to things you didn't see last time + switching item now makes a sound like pressing a button would.
not quite sure whether i want item locks layered over or under the items themselves. if you have any opinions, let me know. it's currently layered over, like vanilla, which is not consistent with container screens for some reason.

so, a not-insignificant amount of the hud becomes misaligned when using touch controls, and i've decided that i actually don't care enough to fix this.
this shouldn't have been a surprise to me considering this version is mostly just things i couldn't be bothered to fix about the original release. maybe they'll be fixed some day, but not today.
or tomorrow. which is when the update will probably actually release.

WAIT i just remembered that 1.21.50 comes out in like a day. i should probably wait until then to make sure that it doesn't break anything.
