Yesterday I slept with the windows open and curtains flapping with the cool wind after the first drizzle of the year. It was lovely to be lulled to sleep by the flapping rather than their summer stillness and to be woken up with the birds chirping. It was even lovelier to fall back asleep but not so lovely to wake up late and get the morning routines in order. - - I started Effi Briest yesterday night as the slowest reading buddy to @booksfordessert . I am so loving it and reminds me a bit of Jane Eyre. It is a mystery that I was not scared to sleep with the curtain flapping in my bedroom because there are many eerie connections in the book about curtain sounds in dark, dingy rooms.
