Watching kane play when he's obviously injured/in pain or whatever reminds me of when I force myself to do something even though I'm objectively not well enough. It never ends well.

Every love story is beautiful, but ours is my favorite.
“Okay, do you have everything?” Tori asked Taehyung as she rushed to his door.
“Uhm,” he looked through his pockets once more, “Yeah.”
“You nervous?” they paced to the elevator and waited for it to open.
“Can you see me?” he breathed as they entered the elevator car, “I’m shaking so hard right now.”
“Aww,” she pouted, cupping his cheeks, “Breathe, baby, breathe.”
“Okay now you’re making me more anxious.”
She let go of him and slouched against the wall.
“I was trying to help.”
He grinned, shaking himself out before pulling her hand into his.
“Thank you.”
The doors opened and they headed to the basement.
“Do you think,” he started as they hopped into his car, “that they will be able to tell?”
“Tell what?”
“Like about us…”
“Babe, they won’t know,” she took his hand in his as he continued to drive with the other, “And even if they did, they won’t care.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I’m sure.”
“What if the organisers find out and they-”
“Tae,” she said firmly, “It. Doesn’t. Matter.”
“Still-”
“Geez you’re annoying,” she huffed, sinking into her seat.
He sighed, “Alright I’ll stop.”
Sitting up, she brought his hand to her lips and kissed it, “Stop being so nervous, it’s going to be fine.”
--
When the pair entered the theatre, Taehyung immediately gasped at the number of kids in it. It was almost full.
Tori held onto him tighter. “C’mon,” she whispered, leading him to the panel where the speakers were to sit.
The two of them were invited to speak at the medicine seminar as they are the two top students in their year. Tori agreed and Taehyung said no.
But after a heck of a lot of persuasion, Tori got Taehyung to say yes.
Tori felt Taehyung’s fingers start to tremble and she just wished it all to be over. She was starting to regret making him do it. He was getting too scared and she hated seeing him that way.
“Today all our speakers are fifth year med students, all about to graduate at the top of their class. Give a round of applause for our first speaker…”
Taehyung’s fingers around Tori’s tightened.
“Kim Taehyung!”
The room burst with the students clapping and she looked over at him to see him biting his lip as he slowly stood up.
“You’ll do well,” Tori whispered, “Breathe.”
Taehyung shuffled to the centre stage and pulled the remote from his pocket. Tori’s eyes scanned the crowd to see their reactions and she was hating it already.
The girls were practically shooting out heart eyes at him.
I can’t believe Taehyung would be nervous for these kids.
Taehyung stopped speaking, and Tori saw him flinch.
Baby, ignore that, breathe, continue.
Put your right hand in your pocket.
She noticed how it was shaking and she knew the kids would notice.
He swiftly slid it into his pocket and turned back to the slide.
“I got teased a lot for this but I’m the kinda guy who likes getting his assignments done a week early so when my friends ask me to a movie the week the assignment is due, I don’t have to decline.”
The room laughed.
Tori smiled. That was a good confidence booster.
Her eyes were trained on one girl in particular, however. That one girl who was obviously not paying attention to anything Taehyung was saying and rather was watching him a bit too keenly for her liking. Her eyes taking in every aspect of him. His legs, the way he walked, his hair, his fingers as he pressed the buttons on the remote, his smiles, his eyes, his fashion sense.
Tori pouted, she wished she could hang a sign over Taehyung declaring him hers.
Soon he was done and he bowed to the audience, “Thank you for listening.”
They clapped as he turned and walked to the seat next to Tori, slouching into it immediately.
“I’m so proud of you!” Tori hissed and Taehyung gave her a weak smile.
“Our next speaker, Victoria Chandler is also in the same class as Taehyung, let’s welcome her to the stage!” the MC boomed and Tori shot up, giving the crowd a giant smile as she hopped over to her spot.
She pointed the remote that Taehyung had just given her to the projector and started.
Her speech was much different to Taehyung’s. He was more stiff and the audience listened more intently while Tori was laid back, making the audience laugh almost every two seconds.
How does she do that?
Taehyung thought as he scanned the audience.
But the first thing he saw made him frown.
How can the guys gape at her so openly like that?
“I’m slightly different to my classmate, Taehyung, however, I’m the kind of person who wouldn’t be able to go to that movie because I would be at home finishing my assignment.”
The audience laughed and so did Taehyung. A few ‘me too’ and ‘relatable’ comments could be heard and Tori nodded.
“But of course I don’t endorse that lifestyle.”
The seminar was finally over but when the MC announced that it was time for the Q&A section, Taehyung tensed up again.
A lot of hands went up and Taehyung nodded at the first one he saw. Tori noticed the girl from before who was ogling over Taehyung’s every move also had her hand up and she rolled her eyes.
“Is the work load for this degree a lot?” someone asked.
“No,” Taehyung and Tori said simultaneously. They looked at each other to decide who was going to answer, and Tori took it.
“I think in the end it comes down to time management, if your time management is good, then it won’t be a problem.”
After a few questions about medicine itself, Tori realised that Taehyung was purposefully avoiding the girl with the wandering eyes.
“Do you still get time to date?” the person she chose to ask said.
Taehyung blinked.
Tori just laughed.
“Let’s not get side tracked here.”
“It’s still about the degree though!”
“Okay, then, I guess it depends on your time management,” Tori answered swiftly, “If your time management is good then go for it.”
“Any more questions?” Taehyung asked, scanning the room and a girl raised her hand.
He sighed, nodding at her, “Yeah, are you free tonight?”
The whole audience fell into ‘Ooooooh’s. Tori was fighting back her desire to sass the girl back but before she opened her mouth to say anything, she was cut off.
“No, sorry,” Taehyung said, tuning to Tori and winking at her. Tori’s eyes grew wide, so much so that she thought they were going to pop out of her head.
Tae what was that?
Kim Taehyung are you going to explain what that was?
Taehyung just smiled, tuning back to the audience who were now ‘Ooooooh’ing much louder, and the girl who asked the question shrivelled into her seat, her face turning bright red.
--
Taehyung took deep breaths once he was in the car. He had no idea where that confidence had come from earlier, he wondered if Tori was rubbing off on her a bit too much.
She finally came back, hopping into the passenger seat silently.
Taehyung raised an eyebrow at her but she didn’t say anything and just focused on the road ahead. He shrugged and turned on the engine, trying to think of something to say to her to check if she was okay.
Her parents! That’s right they called earlier. That’s a good conversation starter.
“Victor-”
“Okay, you’re busy tonight?” she asked, looking at him, “Doing what? With whom?”
“Vic-”
“I can’t believe you let her flirt with you like that! Is she out of her mind?”
Taehyung started laughing, causing her to narrow her eyes at him.
“What’s so funny,” she deadpanned, “Kim Taehyung, you’re to blame you know.”
He raised his eyebrows harmlessly, “What?”
“Being so…”
Cute.
He laughed again and she found it so hard to maintain her anger seeing him like that.
“I thought you’d be glad I shut her down,” he reached for hand and pressed his lips against it, “Because you’re definitely the only girl I want to spend my free time with.”
“Is that even a compliment I don’t know,” she muttered under her breath, sinking further into the seat.
“You’re so hard to please, you know that?” he sighed and she shook her head.
Actually I’m not.
All you need to do is smile.
I’m so easy to please.
Taehyung tried to keep the grin from spreading on his face, “So where to?”
“Home, I’ll let you spend your night with whoever you’re spending it with.”
She crossed her arms over her chest and turned to the front.
“Are you jealous?” he asked, tilting his head to peer at her face.
She turned away, “No.”
He outstretched his arm, pinching her chin and pulling her towards him. His lips were over hers in no time, and she finally caved, grinning into the kiss. Her hand rested on the gear in between them before she cupped his jaw with both her hands.
“Is this how you’re going to ask me on a date?” she joked, when he let her up for air.
By kissing me?
He nodded, innocently, “Is there something wrong with that?”
She rolled her eyes, “I was kidding, Tae.”
“I wasn’t.”
--
That night, they found themselves sprawled over Taehyung’s couch, Tori hugging the popcorn bucket and Taehyung hugging her waist.
His head was on her shoulder as she stuffed the kernels into both his and her mouths.
“Why are we watching this again?” he asked, turning to look at her. However, due to their position he was faced with her ear. He took the chance to nibble at it a few times before she answered.
“Because our lecturer said it was a good movie,” she said before she held a popcorn piece in front of his mouth and he opened it for her to pop it in.
“But it’s booooooring,” he groaned before stopping, his eyes widened at the events happening on the screen and Tori turned to look at him, smiling at how fast his expression changed. Kissing his forehead, she turned back and started munching on the popcorn again.
“Don’t you think it would have been easier to cut open his abdomen to retrieve the bullet?” Tori asked, as they were watching.
“No because that would risk too much blood loss close to the wound, see,” he pointed at the TV, “from there it would be a clean cut.”
“Oh,” she nodded, “That makes sense.”
They enjoyed the movie, laughing when it was funny, crying – or more like frowning in Tori’s case – when it was sad and finally it was over.
“We’re graduating in a week,” Tori awed, swing her legs around the couch and lying her head over Taehyung’s lap.
“I know,” he replied in an equal tone, “I can’t believe it.”
“I can’t wait till we get to wear our scrubs together,” she grinned, “hashtag couple goals.”
Taehyung shuddered, “Cringe,” he said over and over again. “Cringe, cringe, cringe.”
She laughed, leaning up and holding the side of his face, bringing him down to kiss her, “I’m so glad I came to this University and met you.”
He kissed her back, “I’m so glad I get to graduate with you.”
He didn’t know what it was like to depend on someone like this. But now that he did, he never wanted to go back.
--
The graduation went as normal, boring speech after boring speech. And finally it was time to give out the certificates. Taehyung and Tori were sitting apart from each other as they had to be separated by the aisle, but that didn’t stop them from looking over and smiling at each other every now and then.
“Now we are going to announce those who graduated at the top of their class, Victoria Chandler!”
Taehyung almost jumped up at her name, and managed to resort to clapping before anyone noticed. He was overjoyed as he watched her skip up the steps and take the scroll from the teacher, kissing it and waving it at the crowd.
“Kim Taehyung!”
This time he allowed himself to shoot out of his chair and shuffle to the stage, bowing as he accepted the certificate, taking his place next to another class mate as they stood in front of everyone. He hid his face from the crowd as he saw Tori’s parents taking a million photos of them.
“Congratulations!” Tori’s mother squealed, enveloping the both of them in a bear hug. Taehyung smiled, he was used to Tori’s mother treating him like her own.
“Congratulations son,” Tori’s dad said, clapping Taehyung on the back, to which he coughed at the pain, making him laugh and pat him harder.
Jungkook came up to Taehyung, slightly sniffing as he quickly closed the space between the two, hugging his hyung tight.
“Woah, Kookie,” Taehyung chuckled, hugging him back, teasing, “Are you crying?”
“Hyung! You need to promise me you’re going to look after me now that you’re a doctor!”
“I’m not a do-” Jungkook’s eyes made him stop talking, “Of course, why wouldn’t I look after my little baby?” he scrunched his nose and Jungkook did the same.
“That’s right, you gotta care for this kid, we’re in this together, right?”
“Right,” Taehyung nodded, “You’ve helped me so much so far, thank you so much Kook-ah.”
“Don’t,” Jungkook sniffed, “say that unless you want to see a waterfall of tears.”
“Wow, our Jungkook has grown up so much,” Taehyung rubbed the younger’s back, “You’re even crying in front of your hyung.”
“Only for your graduation,” Jungkook said flatly, “Next time I see you, watch your back.”
Luther was next, he gave Taehyung a hug, “Congrats, man.” The two of them became close after Luther had moved into Seoul and they often played badminton together, and he would joke about how Taehyung and he still had to continue their training sessions even if he broke up with Tori.
“Thanks, hyung,” Taehyung beamed and Luther stepped aside to reveal Taylor and Ben who ran to him, hugging his hip. Taehyung laughed, those two had also grown fonder towards Taehyung.
“Hyung!”
“Oppa!”
They chirped, and Taehyung laughed, crouching down, pinching their cheeks.
“Yes, little ones?”
“What does that mean?” Ben pointed at Taehyung’s graduation hat and Taehyung pulled it off.
“It means I’ve spent an awful lot of time learning how to save people’s lives,” he replied, staring at it.
“So it makes you a superhero?” Ben asked again, looking at the hat in awe.
“Yeah,” Taehyung put the hat on Ben’s head, “But I think you’ll be better at it than me.”
“Really?” Ben asked, doing some sort of dance, making both Taehyung and Taylor laugh.
“But what can I be then?” Taylor pouted, “If Ben can be a superhero.”
“You can be a super hero too,” Taehyung looked around, and pulled off his graduation cape, wrapping it around Taylor’s shoulders.
“Oh yeah! Like super man’s cape!” she gushed as he did.
“Now we’re all superheroes!” Ben exclaimed, and Taehyung nodded.
Taylor and Ben ran away, their hands in the air mimicking superman’s infamous pose.
“Wait-” my clothes… Taehyung’s voice drifted as he watched their backs get smaller.
Tori joined him, ringing her arm through his and watched his exasperated expression as he observed the two little kids playing with each other.
“I see you’re having fun there,” Tori nudged him and he sighed.
“I sacrificed my graduating status for those smiles,” he looked over at them and Tori nodded.
“Thank you,” she kissed his cheek, “my hero.”
“Did you hear what we were talking about?” his cheeks flushed a bright red.
“Maybe,” she shrugged, turning him to face her.
He groaned, looking to the sky, “Okay I know I’m cringey, please don’t-”
She cut him off, pulling him into a tight hug, making him yelp.
“Victoria,” he whispered, “Your parents-”
“I don’t care about them right now,” her voice was muffled in his sweater, “I’m just so happy.”
He closed his mouth.
“We’ve come so far,” she looked up, “Tae, I have a med degree! Medicine! I was so bad at school work before but now, thanks to you, I have made myself so proud.”
He nodded, “You’ve made me proud too, Victoria, I am so proud of you.”
Tears welled in her eyes as she looked up to him again, her eyes trailing down to his lips before she leaned up to kiss him.
It was the perfect end to something beautiful. And he knew it was the perfect beginning to the rest of their lives.
