Ngl being a shelver at a library has really changed the experience of being a library patron for me.
I work at a smaller branch so I wanted to go see the bigger one and marvel at their selection instead of just transferring the book I wanted and instead of being enthralled by choice, I walked in and was like "๐๐๐๐๐ The shelves aren't exactly 70% stocked... One book that a patron hastily put back hasn't been fixed."
It took every fiber within me not to just start organizing right then and there. I just had to grab my book and leave because I simply could not be in that space and just behave myself.
#ALSO THEIR NONFICTION SHELVES WERE WAY TOO CLOSE TOGETHER#I felt like I was being compressed while I was inside and then I stepped out and it was like... BOOM Half the room is empty#It was insane#Also I saw one of my coworkers from my branch working a shift there#Anyway even though I've been to that branch like 1000 times I've never hung out in the adult section and I've never been a shelver there#so it was like such a jarring and anxiety inducing experience#I crave the thrill though. Going back next time without my bike (so I'm not just thinking about my bike getting stolen)#to really take it all in#goat talk#OH and last week I went to a library in a different system (because we were looking for a public restroom while visiting another town)#and I was like 'Mom. Mom look. THEY MARK THEIR BOOKS DIFFERENTLY. THERE's NO BRANCH STICKER!!!'#or they had BOOKAZINES??? Like those special edition magazines for rent????#I was shocked
